ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - Lelar Hunter, 86, of Anchorage, Alaska, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997, in Anchorage.

Funeral arrangements are pending with Martinez Funeral Home.

Abbie Moorer

ODESSA - Abbie James Moorer, 70, of Odessa died Friday, Sept. 26, 1997, at Medical Center Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are pending with Martinez Funeral Home.

Kiana Nicole Ornelas

ODESSA - Kiana Nicole Ornelas, 1-hour-old infant, of Odessa died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1997, at Medical Center Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are pending with Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Johnny Jesse Chavez

ODESSA - Johnny Jesse Chavez, 49, a retired overhead doorsman with Denard Electric, died Friday, Sept. 26, 1997, at Medical Center Hospital.

A Rosary Service will be held Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will be at Rosehill cemetery in Odessa. Funeral arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.

He has been a life-long resident of Odessa. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Audelia (Lela) Chavez of Odessa; sons, Christopher Chavez of Odessa, John Anthony Chavez of Odessa, Daniel Chavez of Odessa; daughters, Nancy Montoya of Odessa, Amber Michelle Chavez of Odessa and Crystal Chavez of Odessa.

Lelar Tom Hunter

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - Lelar Tom Hunter, 85, a retired mail sorter for the United States Post Office, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997, at Medical Center Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska.

Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Martinez Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Big Springs. Funeral arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.

He was born in Trinity and has been a resident of Anchorage, Al. for 22 years. He was a member of Church of God in Christ, Cavalry Deliverance in Anchorage, Al. and was a World War II veteran.

SURVIVORS: Son, Charles Edward Hunter of Copperscove; daughter, Sandra Kay Williams of Odessa; brothers, Amos Hunter of San Francisco, Calif., William Hunter of New York City, N.Y.; sisters, Tomme Hunter of San Francisco, Calif. and Helen Davis of Anson.

Santos H. Gonzales

ODESSA - Santos H. Gonzales, 75, a crane operator in the navy ship yard, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997, at his residence.

A Rosary Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel. Services will be held at 10 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

He was born in Marfa and was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.

SURVIVORS: Sons, Jesse Gonzales of Germany, Arturo Gonzales of Okla., Santos Gonzales of Odessa, Oscar Gonzales of Los Angeles, Calif., Freddy Gonzales of Odessa, Gilbert Gonzales of Richardson, Larry Gonzales of Odessa; daughters, Sally Cano of Las Cruces, N.M., Gloria Aguirre of Odessa, Dorothy G. Alvardo of Odessa, Marie G. Ramirez of Watuga, Marianna G. Pineda of Odessa, Diana Y. Zaguirre of Odessa and 48 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Wray Harris Nelson

ODESSA - Wray Harris Nelson, 97, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village.

Funeral arrangements are pending with Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Johnny Chavez

ODESSA - Johnny Chavez, 49, died Friday, Sept. 26, 1997, at Medical Center Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are pending with Martinez Funeral Home.

Louis Collins

BIG LAKE - Louis Collins, 91, a rancher, died Friday, Sept. 26, 1997, at Reagan Memorial Hospital in Big Lake.

Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Barnhart cemetery in Big Lake with the Rev. Hank Gooe officiating. Burial will be at Richard W. Box Funeral Home of Big Lake.

He was born in Irion County, and has been a resident of Balmorhea since 1960. He was Methodist and served in the Army during World War II.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Loreine Collins of Balmorhea; daughter, Barbara Harrison of Abilene; sons Boots Collins of Fort Stockton, Richard Huelster of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Craig Huelster of Balmorhea; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Ethel Laverne Diez

ODESSA - Ethel Laverne Diez, 73, a licensed practical nurse, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997, at Medical Center Hospital.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Monahans Memorial cemetery Pavilion in Monahans with the Rev. Bill Hatler officiating. Burial will be at Harkey Funeral Home. She was born in Sayre, Okla., and has been a resident of Monahans since 1938. She was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Sons, Jay Aldridge of Dell City, Va., David Aldridge of Tigard Ore., Andy Diez Jr. of Monahans and Tommy Diez of Pyote; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Rito Abalos

RANKIN - Rita Barrera Abalos, 54, an oil field worker and ranch worker, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997, at Rankin District Hospital.

Rosary was said Monday at Rankin Park Building. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today at Rankin Park Building with the Rev. Barry McLean officiating. Burial will be at the Rankin cemetery. Arrangments by Richard W. Box Funeral Home.

He was born in Rankin, and was a lifelong resident. He was a Catholic.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Adela Abalos of Rankin; son, Marcus Abalos of Rankin; mother, Juanita Abalos of Rankin; brothers, Brijido Esparza and Frank Abalos, both of Rankin and Andres Abalos of Midland; and sisters, Natalia Sandoval of Crane, Natividad Pulido and Lola Watson, both of Rankin, Lupe Barrandy of McCamey and Josie Mata of Odessa.

Alpha Butler

CRANE - Alpha Butler, 81, a nurse, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1997, at Community Center Nursing Home in Hondo.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Mary Street Church of Christ. Burial will be at the Crane County cemetery. Arrangements by Richard W. Box Funeral Home.

She was born in Reisel and moved to Crane in 1940. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

SURVIVORS: Sons, Billy Pat Butler of Hondo and Bobby Gayle Butler of Crane; brother, H.M. Mullins of Freer; sisters, Frieda Tandy of Corpus Christi, Nettie Beth Wood of Belton and Lorene Welch and Evelyn Bell, both of Luling; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Elmer Hill

ODESSA - Elmer James Hill, 80, a derrick hand, died Monday, Sept. 29, 1997, at Midland Memorial Hospital and Medical Center.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Rose Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel.

He was born in Clarton and was a resident of Midland.

SURVIVORS: Daughter, Teresa Bullard of Eldorado; sisters, Lila Rickey of Odessa and Jeanette Pierre of Beckville; and four grandchildren.

Juanita Hodge

MACKS CREEK, Mo. - Juanita Hodge, 80, a nurse, died Monday, Sept. 29, 1997, at Ozark General Hospital in Osage Beach, Mo.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Macks Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Denzel Webb officiating. Burial will be at Macks Creek cemetery. Arrangements by Hedges Funeral Homes in Camdenton, Mo.

She was born in Andarko, Okla., and was a resident of Macks Creek, Mo. She was a Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Daughters, Betty Whitworth of Macks Creek, Mo., Alana Murphy of Odessa, Mary McCutchen of Winsborrow, Oma Sherlyn Wallace of Monroe, La., and Sharon Henry of Springfield, Mo.; sister, Oma Skaggs of Camdenton, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-granchildren.
