Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clark Racca and Kyle Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. He was born in Odessa. Margarita Dutchover FORT DAVIS — Margarita Dutchover, 90, of Alpine, a homemaker, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at a local nursing home. Mass was celebrated at 4 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Mike Alcuino officiating. Burial was at St. Joseph’s Catholic cemetery. Arrangements by Geeslin Funeral Home. She was born in Brogado. SURVIVORS: Sons, Lee Roy Dutchover Sr. of Alpine and Samuel Dutchover Jr. of Fort Davis; daughter, Elisa Navarrete of Greenwood; and brother, Manuel “Nito” Martinez of Fort Davis. Jack Gwatney ODESSA — Jack Gwatney, 75, of Odessa, a retired employee of the civil service, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Ernest Easley officiating. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. He was born in Conway, Ark., and moved to Odessa in 1976. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. SURVIVORS: Wife, Sue Gwatney of Odessa; daughters, Gayla Lindsey, Susan Theaux and Lynn Werner, all of Odessa; son, Greg Gwatney of Jacksonville, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Jose Prado Sr. MIDLAND — Jose S. Prado Sr., 78, of Midland, a retired employee of Drilco Industrial, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, in Midland. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Ray Wilhelm officiating. Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements by Ellis Funeral Home. He was born in Austin. He was an Army veteran. He was Catholic. Jose Razo FORT DAVIS — Jose Nunez Razo, 63, of Premont, a self-employed carpenter, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at a nursing home in Premont. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Rick Ruiz officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic cemetery. Arrangements by Geeslin Funeral Home. He was born in Fort Davis. He was Catholic. Jose Rubio Jr. MIDLAND — Jose Sabino Rubio Jr., 27, of Midland, an employee of the YMCA in Midland, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Midland. Services will be at noon Thursday at Primera Iglesia Bautista with the Revs. Ernesto Gil and Sam Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview cemetery. SURVIVORS: Parents, Jose Rubio Sr. and Eva Rubio, both of Midland; and sisters, Rosa Angelica Rubio and Nancy Percaes, both of Midland. Louis Dewayne Anderson ODESSA — Louis Dewayne Anderson, 55, of Odessa passed away Aug. 16, 2001, at Hospice House after a battle with cancer. Dewayne was born Sept. 22, 1945, in Mount Pleasant, Utah, to Ethel Christensen and Howard J. Clark. He married Bette J. McIlveene April 2, 2001, in Odessa. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel; brother, Johnny David Clark; daughter, Lisa Anderson; and grandson, Merlin Johnson. Survivors are his wife, Bette Anderson of Odessa; four sons, Lonnie D. Anderson of San Diego, Calif., Troy Smuin and wife Lori of Vernal, Utah, Rick Null and wife Shannon of Houston and Victor Null and wife Janet of Midland; three daughters, Patricia Tate and husband Jedd of Blanding, Utah, Gerrie Shoshaki and husband Tom of Vernal, Utah, and Val Lovett and husband Tommy of Odessa; father, Howard Clark of Cedar City, Utah; four brothers, James Clark and wife Janette of Vernal, Utah, Earl Clark and wife Delores of Beaver, Utah, Kenneth Clark and wife Brenda of Cedar City, Utah, and Harold Henroid and wife Connie of Manti, Utah; six sisters, Sandy Williams and husband Boyd of Lewistown, Mont., Kathy Judd and husband Rene of Summitt, Utah, Aleen Whalin and husband Dee of Mount Pleasant, Utah, Arlene Slaugh and husband Jay of Vernal, Utah, Darlene Bennar and husband Mike of Vernal, Utah, and Leona Richardson and husband Larry of Vernal, Utah; 24 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Dewayne served his country for over 21 years in the U.S. Army, serving in Europe, Korea and South America, achieving the rank of master sergeant, second to the highest enlisted rank with numerous military awards including the Metilouris service medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a teacher and a mentor. He loved to laugh and brought happiness to all who knew him. Services will be held at a later time in Utah. Services by Odessa Funeral Home. A.R. Smith ALVARADO — A.R. “Dick” Smith, 61, a geologist, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at his residence. Memorial services were held July 8, 2001, at First Jefferson Unitarian Universalist Church in Fort Worth. Following private committal services, Dick was laid to rest at Greenwood Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers were his sons, Geren and Preston Smith, brother-in-law, Al Schultz, Hardy Childress, Ginger Courtney, Lori Greathouse, Carl Kunath, Howard McMahan, James Riddell, Peggy Schneider, Barbara Turner and Dale York. A native of Odessa, Audas Richard Smith was born Sept. 22, 1939, the son of Audas Richardson and Annie Louise Watkins Smith. He attended Rice University for two years before receiving a degree in geology from the University of Texas at Austin. He was revered by his co-workers, whom he loved to encourage and share his knowledge with them, delivered along with his wonderfully corny sense of humor. He was considered an expert in karst geology and hydrogeology. In his early years, he was a cave explorer and is responsible for mapping many of the caves in Texas. He was the recipient of the first Texas Speleological Survey Outstanding Service Award, given in appreciation of 37 years of extraordinary contributions which have been instrumental for the TSS in attaining its goals of documenting, researching and conserving the caves and karst of Texas. Dick was also a member of the National Speleological Society. His hobbies included steam trains, building models of his beloved T&P railroad and researching railroad history. He was an officer and an active member in the Missouri Pacific Historical Society. Dick was a beloved leader in his church, serving in many capacities. One of his loves included music, both classical, especially opera, and hymns. Playing hymns from his childhood served as a form of relaxation for him. Dick was honorable, fair and principled with all. The universe has lost a beautiful soul. He was a sweet man, a gentle man and a gentleman. Loved by all who knew him, he abhorred violence of any kind. He was a voracious reader and an eloquent writer. He was an animal lover, especially of their precious pets. Dick was adored by his wife and was the most loving husband. More than life, he loved his Ann. Survivors: Wife of 11 years, Ann Marie Harding Smith of Alvarado; sons, Geren David Smith of Phoenix, Ariz., and Preston Smith of Holden, Mo., and their mother Elizabeth Kelley Smith; daughter-in-law, Sarah; grandchildren, Griffin Guynn and Rigel Smith; brothers, David Smith and Donald Smith and wife Diana; mother-in-law, Avis Wirth; brother-in-law, Alex Schultz and wife Jeneane; and several nieces and nephews. Jimmie Joe Dunn ROBERT LEE — Jimmie Joe Dunn, 69, of Robert Lee passed away Friday morning, Aug. 17, 2001, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, at Pecan Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Paint Creek cemetery. Jimmie was born May 17, 1932, in Wortham to Jim and Edith Dunn. He married Frances Cowart June 16, 1951. He worked for and retired from Vulcan Chemicals after 21 years of service. He later worked for Texaco for 11 years. They retired to Robert Lee where he served on the Water Board and worked as a school bus driver. Jimmie is survived by his wife of 50 years, Frances Dunn of Robert Lee; two daughters, Carol Harper of Odessa and Teresa Dunn of Big Lake; a brother, Bobby Dunn of Robert Lee; and five grandchildren, Carla Boxell, Roger Joe Gresham, Gina Hernandez, Amber Hernandez and Amanda Winters.
