Michael Garvey ODESSA — Michael Garvey was born May 7, 1977, to beloved parents Mike and Dannine Garvey. Michael’s fun-loving spirit always called for an audience and his younger sister, Athena Garvey Moon, had a front row seat while growing up with her brother’s magnetic character. During Michael’s junior year at Permian High School, he began working at Blackshear Magnet Elementary where he remained employed for the next six years. While working at Blackshear, Michael attended Odessa College School of Cosmetology where he graduated in May 2000. Upon graduation, Michael moved to Dallas where he was manager at Toni & Guy Hair Salon. Michael passed away Friday, July 20, 2001, at his Dallas residence. Michael will be remembered for the laughter that he brought to every situation. His laugh will ring in our hearts forever. May we find peace that Michael is resting safely in the arms of the Father. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today, July 24, 2001, at University Park Baptist Church where Michael was a member. The Rev. Johnny Witherspoon will be officiating. Survivors include his parents, Mike and Dannine Garvey; sister and brother-in-law, Athena Garvey Moon and Dustin Moon; nephew, Ethan Garvey; grandmothers, Evelyn Garvey and Ann Holmes; aunts, Kara Holmes, Nancy Ritchey, Cathy Jimenez, Annie Kitchens, Betty Hale, Terri Garvey and Audra Holmes; uncles, Chako Holmes, Ralph Ritchey, Leroy Jimenez and Luke Kitchens; and several cousins. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Charlie Bartlett LAMESA - Charlie Bartlett, 73, of Monahans, a retired farmer, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Dawson County cemetery with David Lively officiating. Arrangements by Harkey Funeral Home. He was born in Lamesa. He was Baptist. SURVIVORS: Son, Glynn Bartlett of Boerne; daughters, Paula Tanner of Edmond, Okla., and Connie Clayton of Monahans; sister, Alma Ruth Breck of Houston; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Roger Marshall KERMIT - Roger Boyd Marshall, 42, of Kermit, a truck driver, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at his residence. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Belvue Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayman Swoopes officiating. Burial will be at the Kermit cemetery. Arrangements by Cooper Funeral Chapel. He was born in Enid, Okla., and was a resident of Kermit for 27 years. He was Baptist. SURVIVORS: Daughter, Jordan Ashley Marshall of Wink; parents, George 'Bill' and Estell Marshall of Midland and Vickey and Johann Meyer of San Antonio; brother, George Lee Marshall Jr. of Austin; and sisters, Brenda King of Carlsbad, N.M., and Brandy Garcia of Midland. Rodolph Valentine ODESSA - Rodolph 'Val' Valentine, 84, of Odessa, a retired building contractor, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at Hospice House. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Cameron officiating. Burial will follow at the Monahans cemetery. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. He was born in Pelican, La., and had been a resident of Monahans. He was Methodist. Griffith, 77, of Odessa died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, in Garland. Services are pending with Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Guadalupe Sanchez Jr. ODESSA - Guadalupe Sanchez Jr., an infant, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at Odessa Regional Hospital. Services are pending with Stanton Memorial Funeral Home and Chapel. James Swinney CARLSBAD, N.M. - James 'Ben' Swinney, 85, of Odessa died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, in Carlsbad, N.M. Services are pending with Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. N.A. Ford ODESSA — In my Father’s house are many mansions. I go and prepare a place for you and there you will also be. N.A. Ford left this world for his heavenly mansion Aug. 22, 2001. He was born in Bogata to James Wesley Ford and Maggie Davis Ford. He was married to Allene E. Land. He and his family moved to El Paso in 1949 and then moved to Odessa in 1957. He was employed in the automotive field, belonging to several automotive organizations promoting that industry. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Odessa and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, two sisters and granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Blair. He is survived by his wife, Allene E. Ford; two daughters, Jerry Ford Bolling and husband Robert of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Jeannie A. Ford of El Paso; two grandsons, Clayton Ford Bryan and wife LaRie and James Blair, all of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; two great-grandchildren, Parker Elizabeth and Clayton Bryan; a sister, Edith Westbrook of Paris, Texas; and several nieces. Memorial services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, Aug. 24, 2001, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Ada Frances Lewis MIDLAND — Ada Frances Lewis, 74, passed away Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at her residence. Services will be at 10 a.m. today, Aug. 24, 2001, at the Pipkin Funeral Home Chapel in Midland with the Rev. Dewey Blevins of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Odessa officiating. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven cemetery in San Angelo. Arrangements are under the direction of Pipkin Funeral Home and Chapel. Ada was born March 18, 1927, in Little York, Ill., to Elmer and Sarah Francis House Bridges. She attended school in Illinois and moved to Odessa 51 years ago. She worked for Women’s and Children’s Hospital as a secretary until her retirement. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Ada was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Sarah Bridges; her husband, Warren Alton Lewis; and a son, Billy Lewis. She is survived by her son, William L. Lewis of Odessa; daughter, Jerry Rainey of California; sister, Edith Jane Bridges Lawson of Viola, Ill.; brother, Wilmer “Jack” Bridges of Alexis, Ill.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Larry Lewis Hutchings, Robert Dodge, Jimmy Thrush, Victor Silvester and David Eades. Honorary pallbearer will be great-grandson Coy Lewis Hallmark. Manuel Nabarrette ODESSA — Manuel Nabarrette, 93, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at Seabury Nursing Home. He was born Nov. 19, 1907, in Candelaria and was a lifelong resident of Odessa. He was a retired grocery store owner. Mr. Nabarrette was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where he was with the Holy Name Society, an usher, sacristan and a Third Order Carmelite. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. He was preceded in death by his mother, Juana Dominguez; his father, Felipe Nabarrette; and son, Jesus Nabarrette and wife Barbarita. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home. Elden Lee Reedy Sr. ODESSA — Elden Lee Reedy Sr., 77, of Odessa went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001. He was born Aug. 30, 1923, in Lubbock. Mr. Reedy was an Army veteran of World War II. He moved to Odessa in 1951 from Matador. He was a retired self-employed mechanic and a Methodist. He is survived by sons, Elden Reedy Jr. and wife Debbie of Odessa and Olen Reedy and wife Toni of Denton; daughter, D. Ellen Reedy of Odessa; grandchildren, Lauren Reedy, Chelsea Reedy and Shawna Edmiston and husband Shane; and great-grandchildren, Hope and Holly Edmiston. Services will be held at 9 a.m. today, Aug. 24, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with the Rev. Terry Pierce officiating and eulogy by Jack Hubbard. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Florence Clark Vaughn ODESSA — Florence Clark Vaughn, 86, of Odessa passed away peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at Hospice House in Odessa with her devoted family by her side. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the kind and loving care given by the nurses, aides and all other support staff of Hospice House. Mrs. Vaughn was born March 7, 1915, the second of six children to Mae Davis Clark and Floyd Clark, a pioneer couple of Freedom, Woods County, Okla. Growing up in the western plains of Oklahoma, she established an outstanding school record in academics and served as captain of the girl’s basketball team and led them to regional and state titles. She and her family were very involved in the many activities relating to the growth and development of their community. In 1935, Florence married Dillard D. Vaughn of Mayfield, Ky., in Alva, Okla. Soon after their marriage, they moved to Oklahoma City to begin a new business venture. In 1939, they moved to Burkburnett with their two young daughters, Barbara and June, to establish Vaughn and Taylor Construction Co. During those years, Florence was active in various community and youth-oriented organizations. She served as Worthy Matron of her local Eastern Star Chapter as her mother and sister before her. As a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), she was a Sunday school teacher and served in other leadership areas of the church throughout her life. She was a dedicated member and past president of a local federated study club. In 1953, the family moved to Odessa. There, Florence continued her role as a loving mother and grandmother, a supportive wife and a gracious friend. She and her family enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Mexico and spent many wonderful years entertaining other family members and friends at their ranch in the San Luis Valley of Colorado. Florence was known affectionately as “Nana.” Her quiet guidance deeply touched lives and kept her young at heart. She was always ready to give of herself to help others with poise and good humor through life’s difficulties and with graciousness and hospitality in all the many joyous times. She was a beloved grandmother and great-grandmother, a cherished mother and an inspiration to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Mildred Clark and Lou Crawford; a brother, Jim Clark; and a beloved son-in-law, Tom Warren. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Skelton of Odessa and June Perry and her husband Jim of Granbury; a sister, Freda Welch and her husband Cecil of Odessa; a brother, Ernest Clark and his wife Joyce of Shawnee, Okla.; five grandchildren, Tom Warren of San Antonio, Kelly Hunt of Wylie, Tracy Botik and her husband Joe of Lago Vista, Jeff Perry and his wife Carol of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Joel Perry and his wife Denise of Indianapolis, Ind.; eight great-grandchildren, whom she adored; and many nieces and nephews who held a very special place in her heart. Memorial services are scheduled for 11 a.m. today, Aug. 24, 2001, at First Christian Church with Dr. David Mindel officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Warren, Jeff Perry, Joel Perry, Joe Botik, Elwyn Smith, John Welch, Steve Watson, Rick Gilham and Brian LaTouche. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice House Foundation, 903 N. Sam Houston Ave., Odessa, Texas, 79761, or the charity of your choice.
