He was born in Sevier County, Ark. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was Baptist. Cletus Norton ODESSA — Cletus Norton, 88, of Odessa, a retired teacher and business owner, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Hospice House in Odessa. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Fair Lawn Memorial Park in Cushing, Okla., with the Rev. Bill Alton officiating. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Prebble Baker Crabb KERMIT — Prebble Baker Crabb, 90, of Kermit died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at her residence. Services will be at 10 a.m. today, Feb. 2, 2002, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Beth Harrington officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. today at Lawnhaven cemetery in San Angelo. Arrangements by Cooper Funeral Chapel Inc. She was born Dec. 12, 1911, in San Angelo and had been a resident for 58 years before moving to Kermit three years ago. She was Methodist. She is survived by her daughters, Vicki and husband Terry Kight of Houston and Martha and husband Mike Fostel of Kermit; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Kyle Kight, Jack Crouse, Mike Emerson, Brett Fostel, Clay Fostel and Elmer Dean White. Asha V. Isaacs-Call ODESSA — Asha Call died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at her home after a long and very difficult battle with Shy-Drager Syndrome, a virtually untreatable form of Parkinson’s disease. Her courage, optimism and determination were an inspiration to all whose lives she touched. Asha was born May 7, 1957, in the Indian state of Kerela to Alice Joseph Isaacs and K.V. Isaacs. She was the scion of an Old Anglican family of India and was baptized in the Anglican Church there. As a child, she lived in Kuwait, where her father was an executive with the Kuwait Oil Co. Asha later attended boarding school in India. Her university education consisted of time in Great Britain at Cambridge and a degree from the University of Madras in India. Asha came to the United States in 1989. She married Frank Call on Sept. 1, 1990. She served as vice president of the company she and her husband founded, F.A. International. Asha served on the board at St. John’s Episcopal School. She was an active member of St. Barnabas’ Episcopal Church in Odessa until the time of her illness. She and Frank have two sons, William Isaac Call, age 8, and Alexander Christian Call, age 6. In addition to her husband and sons, Asha is survived by a brother, Rincy Isaacs of Cleveland, Ohio; and sisters, Reeny Tharian of Sunnyville and Lee Logan of Tampa, Fla. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 2, 2002, at St. Barnabas’ Episcopal Church. Guest celebrant, the Rev. Laura Deaderick, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Autonomic Dysfunction Center, Vanderbilt University, Room AA, Medical Center North, Nashville, Tenn., 37232, or St. Barnabas’ Episcopal Church, 4141 Tanglewood, Odessa, Texas, 79762. Arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Donny Reed Chapman ODESSA — Donny Reed Chapman, 49, of Odessa passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, in Reliance, Wyo. He was born Aug. 8, 1952, in Odessa. He worked in the trucking industry for several years. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Chapman of Greeley, Colo.; two sons, Chris Chapman of Austin and Joe Don Chapman of Greeley, Colo.; two daughters, Gabriella Hyatt of Louisiana and Bobbi Chapman of Greeley, Colo.; parents, Ernest and Christine Chapman of Odessa; brother, Ernie Chapman of Odessa; sister, Jenny Griffin of Odessa; a grandchild; and special friend, Debbie Lewis of Odessa. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clydell Chapman officiating. June Hamm MIDLAND — June Hamm joined her Father in Heaven on Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, following an automobile accident. June was born Nov. 18, 1934, in Haskell to Elmer and Gladys Spurlin. In her early adult years, she was an airline flight attendant. In her youth in the 1940s and 1950s in Carlsbad, N.M., she was a rodeo barrel racer, rodeo queen and FFA (Future Farmers of America) sweetheart and 4-H Club sweetheart. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1953. June moved from Hobbs, N.M., to Midland in 1975 and was well known in the area as a “legend” in the broadcasting business. June is survived by her daughters, Priscilla Cupp and her husband Buzz of Austin, Pamela Hamm of Midland and Gail Ann Shepard of Phoenix, Ariz.; her mother, Gladys Spurlin of Midland; grandsons, Trevor Cupp, David Shepard and Matthew Hamm; brother, Odell Spurlin and his wife Patty of Ruidoso, N.M.; nephews, Eddy Spurlin of Albuquerque, N.M., and Pat Spurlin of Austin; and niece, Mandy Spurlin Mader of Ruidoso, N.M. Memorial services have been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at Golf Course Road Church of Christ with Ronnie White officiating. Alleghaney Ave., Odessa, Texas, 79761. Lynda Ann Roberts MIDLAND — Lynda Ann Roberts, 51, of Midland died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at Midland Memorial Hospital and Medical Center. She was born Nov. 13, 1950, in Houston. She married Lanny Roberts on Jan. 14, 1991. Lynda graduated from Permian High School in 1969 and attended Midland College. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, golfing, water skiing, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Southern Oaks Baptist Church in Kerrville. She is survived by her husband, Lanny Roberts of Midland; two sons, Joe David Digby and wife Nikki of San Angelo and Greg Digby of Lubbock; two stepdaughters, Tausha Brock and husband Doug of Lamesa and Robin Wilkie and husband Brian of Welch; parents, Jerry and Marjorie Lyon of Kingsland, Howard and June Neveu of Liberty; three sisters, Judy Muzny of Sommerville, Barbara Neveu of Kerrville and Paula Reid of Arlington; a brother, Jerry M. Lyon of Midland; and five grandchildren, Janzen and Jordan Digby, Sterlyn and Brooklyn Wilkie and Braylee Brock. Bill Turner ODESSA — Billy Ray Turner, 69, passed away Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, while on a cruise in the Caribbean. He was born May 14, 1932, in Idalou to Denzel Russell Turner and Cora Humphries Turner. He married the love of his life, Ruth Nitcholas, Sept. 20, 1952, in Idalou. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at Crescent Park Baptist Church with Dr. Johnny Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Public visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday with the family to receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Bill was drafted into the Army in 1952. After leaving the service, he attended Texas Tech University where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in accounting, ranking second in his class and then earning his certified public accountant certificate. He and Ruth moved to El Paso with their son Tommy in June 1958. They moved to Odessa in December 1958 as Bill often said, “With a half worn out half paid-for car, a kid and a half, a trailer full of junk furniture and $200.” He worked for Urbane Childers with whom he later formed Childers and Turner. After Mr. Childers retired, Bill and Burt Ferguson formed Turner, Ferguson and Co., which received awards for being one of the top small-to-medium regional accounting firms in the U.S. Giving back to the community was very important to Bill. He was on the board of directors of The Fireman’s Pension Fund, Myer’s Drilling, Odessa Oil Investments and many others. Bill was the chairman of the Appraisal District for Ector County for 20 years and served on the Ector County Independent School Board for 12 years. He was a Jaycee, a longtime member of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce and was active in many other civic organizations. He was treasurer at Crescent Park Baptist Church, where he also served as a deacon. Bill and Ruth loved to travel and after his retirement were able to travel even more than before. The most important things in Bill’s life were his faith and his family. He adored his wife, Ruth, and often said his hobby was “spoiling Ruth.” He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and they arranged their travel plans to accommodate the grandchildren’s activities. They bought a house in Ruidoso and loved to spend time there either alone or with the kids and grandkids. He treasured their many friends. Bill was a caretaker. He quietly took care of the vulnerable, the young, the old and the needy. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his grandson, Brett Ryan Turner, who died at the age of 3 with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Theda Ruth Nitcholas Turner; his children, Tommy Turner and wife Lin of Midland, Beth Turner Libson and her husband Dr. David Libson of Odessa and David Russell Turner and his wife Jami of Odessa. He is also survived by two sisters, Polly Turner of Idalou and Sue Kelly of Odessa, and his beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Turner Smith and her husband Kyle of San Antonio, Katie Libson, Laura Libson, Christy Libson, Alexandra Turner, Emily Turner and Miles Turner of Odessa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Crescent Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 3002 E. University Blvd., Odessa, Texas, 79761. “He has achieved success, who has worked well, laughed often and loved much.” From that definition you are the most successful man we will ever meet in every way possible. Jane Crawford KERMIT - Jane Crawford, 55, of Kermit, co-owner and operator of Mid-Tex Construction Co., died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.
