Evelyn E. Ballard
ODESSA - Elaine Ballard, my loving wife, best friend and a wonderful loving mother, passed from this life to the next after a short illness at Medical Center Hospital. Elaine touched many lives with a caring, compassionate heart. There would not be enough room here to tell of the many kind acts that she did every day of her life. Elaine was loved so much by so many people, but no one more than I.
She was born Jan. 2, 1947, in Monahans to Oleta M. and Oliver E. Grove. Elaine spent her life in service to other people. She was honorary lifetime member of the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department, where she gave of herself selflessly to help others. Elaine retired from Medical Center Hospital, where she was a nurse for the emergency department, in Sept. 1999. Elaine touched so many lives, her friends, her family and people she didn’t even know. She taught me by example how I would like to live the rest of my life.
Elaine leaves on this earth a family that has been so enriched by her life and her love.
She is survived by two sons, Chuck Sims of Midland and Mike Sims of Odessa; a daughter, Charlotte Sims of Odessa; a sister, Barbara Grove of Odessa; three grandsons, Sean Sims of Grandfalls, Christopher Sims and Blake Humble of Midland; a granddaughter, Ashley Sims of Grandfalls; and many nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends.
“I love you and will keep you in my heart for the rest of my life.”
Your loving husband,
Jim.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Dean W. Duckett officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

He was born June 25, 1953, in Odessa, and baptized in the Presbyterian Church. He attended Permian High School and the University of Texas at Austin.
David was a unique and creative artist and an excellent musician. He had a wicked wit, a rare understanding of words and how to use them, and he excelled in the disappearing art of letter writing. He was a generous, caring friend and a loving brother and son. David will leave an unfilled empty space in the lives of his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter of Odessa; maternal grandparents, Ivan and Mary D. Boren of Odessa; and paternal grandmother, Lourine Messenger of Sanford, Fla.
He is survived by his mother, Helen Beal of Odessa; brothers, Sam and wife Connie of Mountain View, Calif., and Steven Beal of El Paso; nephew, Garnet Beal of El Paso; uncle, Dan Boren and wife Loretta of Tyler; and cousins, Scott Boren of Dallas, Dana Boren Riley of Mesquite and Natala Boren Lewis of Los Fresnos and their families.
Interment services and celebration of David’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Emily Thielepape, David’s hospice nurse and lifelong friend and the caring staffs of Home Hospice and Hospice House.
If desired, memorials may be made to Home Hospice of Odessa, the Presbyterian Children’s Home of Itasca or a charity of your choice.
