Manuel C. Rodriguez
ODESSA - Manuel C. “Meme” Rodriguez, 58 years of age, passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at his San Angelo residence. A former resident of Odessa, Mr. Rodriguez was born July 22, 1943, in Del Rio and was employed as a truck driver for Key Energy Services.
Surviving are his sons, Albert Rodriguez and his wife Linda of San Angelo and Manuel Rodriguez Jr. of San Angelo; brother, Luis Rodriguez of Odessa; sister, Rosa Tavarez of San Angelo; and his mother, Maria Rodriguez of Odessa. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Moses, Stacie and Christopher Rodriguez, all of San Angelo.
Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 18, 2001, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Floro Hinancay officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Moses Rodriguez, Luis Tavarez, Louis Taylor, Jesse Dominguez, Richard Sosa Jr., Freddy Gandar and Henry Ortiz.
Services by Odessa Funeral Home.

Morris Weldon Sturdivant
ODESSA - Morris Weldon Sturdivant, born Dec. 13, 1912, in Hermleigh, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, the day after his 89th birthday.
Morris had lived in Truth or Consequences, N.M., for the past seven years. Prior to moving to New Mexico, he had lived most of his life in Odessa. He owned and operated several car dealerships, including one he took over for his father, from 1946 until his retirement in 1982.
He served his country during World War II in the Navy. He remained active all his life enjoying his favorite pastime, fishing and other social activities with his many friends. Morris was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need and was loved by all those whose lives he touched. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and caring grandfather. He was a Methodist.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, LaVerne Sturdivant in 1991.
Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Clement of Odessa; a grandson, Bryan Clement of Odessa; and two great-grandchildren, Jared and Madison Clement of Odessa.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Alline F. Webb
ODESSA - Alline F. Webb, 84, of Odessa passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, at Hospice House. She was born June 2, 1917, in Ranger. She moved to Odessa in 1932 and graduated from Odessa High School. She retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. after 37 years of service. She was a member of The Telephone Pioneers, American Business Women’s Association and Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ada and P.L. Webb of Odessa, and three sisters, Imogene Duval, Tully Russell and Luebelle Hand.
She is survived by sister, Billie June Webb of Odessa, six nieces and a nephew.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ with Roy Smalling officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Cy Elliott Foster
MIDLAND - Cy E. Foster, age 65, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Hospice House.
Cy was born Sept. 22, 1936, in Midland to Cy and Merle Foster. He was raised in Sundown and attended San Angelo State College. The past 10 years he owned an oilfield chemical company in Midland and the previous 15 years he was sales manager and served as vice president of oilfield production chemicals of Unichem International in Hobbs, N.M.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cy is survived by his wife, Jaye Jean; sons, Chris and Chad, both of Midland, Kelly of Hobbs, N.M, and Kirby of Tulsa, Okla.; daughter, Amy of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two brothers, Carl of Lubbock and Robert of Austin; and three grandchildren, Angie, Gage and Cy.
Memorial services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel, 801 Andrews Highway, Midland, with Pastor Robert Pase of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Butch Ladd, John Jones, John Meyers, Chad Goldson, David Hicks, Bryan Ham, Michael Ham, Ray Ramsey, Bob Radabaugh and Jim Fletcher.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Hospice House, 903 N. Sam Houston Ave., Odessa, Texas, 79761.

Vivian Mitchell
KERMIT - Services for Vivian Mitchell, 82, of Kermit will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at First Baptist Church in Kermit. Officiating will be the Rev. Earnest Wall, pastor of First Baptist and the Rev. Russell Smith, retired, of Kermit. Burial will follow at the Kermit cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home of Andrews.
Vivian died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at Odessa Regional Hospital.
She was born May 18, 1919, in St. Louis, Mo. Vivian was a former runway model in New York City and was also a former Miss Missouri in 1937. Vivian was a past member of the Eastern Star and a member of the First Baptist Church in Kermit. She married C.A. Mitchell on July 8, 1939, in Potosie, Mo. They are longtime ranchers in the Kermit area.
Survivors are her husband, C.A. Mitchell of Kermit; daughter, Cheryl and husband Robert Roark of Andrews; brother, Richard and wife Edith Guthrie of Fountain Valley, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Ross and wife Sharon Roark of Collinsville and Rachel Roark and fiance Bart Rankin of Dallas.
The family requests memorials to: American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio, 44720, or your favorite charity.

R.E. Mead Jr.
DALLAS - R.E. Mead Jr. passed away Dec. 19, 2001, at the age of 72.
He was preceded in death by his parents, R.E. Sr. and Mildred Mead, and his brother, Montie Mead.
He is survived by three daughters, Vickie, Beckie and Kellie; six grandchildren, Alesha, Ashlie, Lance, Wesley, Jarid and Randy; two great-grandchildren, Torrie and Tommy; and his faithful companion, Linda Spurgeon.
R.E. started a very lucrative career in sales with the Yellow Pages and retired from the wholesale ladies apparel industry with his own showroom at the Dallas Apparel Mart. After his retirement, he stayed very active in real estate development. One of his passions was dancing, and he was quite an accomplished ballroom dancer. His other passion was baton twirling, which won him several U.S. championships while instructing others who did likewise. He twirled in high school, college and the Shrine parades for years.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002.

Stanley Smith
MONAHANS - Stanley Smith, 70, was born Nov. 15, 1931, to Archie and Annie Muriel Smith in Georgetown. He died suddenly Jan. 10, 2002, at the family ranch in Crane County. Mr. Smith met and married Eva Long of Crane County while both were attending Southwestern University in Georgetown. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 28, 2001.
After graduation from Southwestern in 1952, Mr. Smith moved to West Texas with Eva to begin a long distinguished career with the Monahans-Wickett-Pyote Independent School District. Mr. Smith was a principal with the Monahans school for 30 of his 35 years with the system, the last 20 years as principal of Monahans High School. After retiring from education in 1987, Mr. Smith turned his part-time ranching career into a full-time career. He was also an active volunteer with several organizations in Monahans.
Mr. Smith was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Monahans, the Rotary Club, Ward County Retired Teachers Association, Monahans Main Street, director of the first Butterfield Overland Stagecoach and Wagon Festival and the Kermit Bass Club. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and had also received the Distinguished Service Award from the Monahans Jaycees.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Shelley V. Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Eva of Monahans; a son, Robert Ell Smith and his wife Oleta of Soper, Okla.; a daughter, Lois Ann McKenzie and her husband Kirke of Iraan; grandsons, Robert “Scooter” Dixon and his wife Gena of Tulia and Shane McKenzie and his wife Laura of San Angelo; granddaughters, Robyn Stanford and husband Jay of Andrews, Candace Smith of Hartshorne, Okla., Stephanie and Shawna Smith of Soper, Okla., and Shelley Hanson and husband Ron of San Pedro, Calif.; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Billee Lou Harris of Monahans and Shirley Smith of Abilene; a special niece, Pam Treadaway of Monahans; and nephews, Vance Smith of Three Rivers and Seth Smith of Dallas.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 12, 2002, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephen Swisher officiating. Burial will be at Monahans Memorial cemetery.

Christino Alvarado
DALLAS - “Christino Alvarado, of Dallas, joined his beloved wife on December 26, 2001, at Heaven’s gates. Eldest son of Francesca Florez Alvarado and Ascencion Alvarado, one of Odessa’s earliest Hispanic families, he was born July 25, 1920.
“Al” graduated from Odessa High where he played football and trumpet, first chair.
Multilingual, working in the Army Air Corps, 1940-1947, he helped escort First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt on her South American tour, mapped terrain, flew and repaired planes, performed search and rescue missions. He married Phyllis Mary Fawcett in Bolivia.
They had seven children. He owned a metal shop in Dallas, where he repaired and modified aircraft, and created furniture out of old metal from obsolete aircraft tools and parts. His family and friends are proud of his vast range of creative abilities, compassion, humor, generous nature, love of family and passion for Life.
We love you Papa ’Rado!”

Russell Reid Holster
MIDLAND - Russell Reid Holster passed away on January 4, 2002, in a hospital in Tacoma, Washington, after suffering a stroke.
He was born October 14, 1918, in Yoakum, Texas, the son of David Earl and Gladys Reid Holster. He graduated from Lampasas High School and Drauhans Business College in Lubbock. He volunteered for service in the U.S. Army on January 13, 1941, and served with the 36th Infantry (Texas) Division in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. He was awarded the Purple Heart, two Silver Stars for gallantry in Action, the Bronze Star and the French Croix de Guerre with Silver Star, having received a Battlefield Commission in France.
He married Brittie Neill on April 20, 1946, in Lovinton, New Mexico. He was employed by Honolulu Oil Company, then transferred to Amoco Oil Company in Odessa, and retired in 1987. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Midland and the Downtown Lion’s Club of Midland and the Amoco Retirees Group.
He is survived by his wife, and two children, Terri Lyn Grassbaugh of Maadi, Egypt, and Russell R. Holster, Jr, of Gig Harbor, Washington; two grandchildren, Emily Grassbaugh and William Grassbaugh, his brother, David Earl Holster Jr. and nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2002, in Ellis Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2002, in First United Methodist Church Sanctuary with Reverend C. Lane Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.

Marjorie Hill Weaver
ODESSA - Marjorie Hill Weaver died on Jan. 4, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas, after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Leeds, Kansas, on Jan. 19, 1916, to Joseph Henry Hill and Bertha Miller Hill.
She attended grade school in Chautauqua County, Kansas; high school in Moline, Kansas; and graduated from Wichita High School East in 1937. She qualified for a county teaching certificate and taught two years in Chautauqua County in a one-room schoolhouse. She later attended Emporia State Teachers College and then taught one year in Elk County, Kansas. She entered the Women’s Army Corp. during WWII and served from 1942 to 1945. She returned to Wichita, Kansas, and attended Wichita University for one and a half years. While stationed at Fort Smith, Arkansas, Marjorie met her future husband, Ewing Weaver, and they married Aug. 6, 1947, in Moline, Kansas. They moved to Sundown, Texas, where Ewing taught high school science. They lived there for 39 years until Ewing’s death in 1987. Marjorie moved to Odessa, Texas, in 1989 to be closer to three of her children. She has been a resident of Lincoln Tower Retirement Center for the past four years.
Marjorie was a longtime member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Levelland, Texas. After moving to Odessa, she attended services at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband; an infant daughter, Ruth Jan; son, James David Weaver; three brothers, Maynard, William (Hank) and Jim Hill; and two sisters, Doris Lampson and Alice Beazer.
She is survived by a sister, Orien Walker Tanner of Moline, Kansas; three children, Donald Weaver and wife, Kathleen of Lubbock, Beverly Weaver of Odessa, Mary Lou Watts and husband, Danny, of Odessa; and daughter-in-law Diane Weaver of New Braunfels. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Michael Weaver of New Braunfels, Mark Weaver, Andrea Weaver and John Weaver, all of Lubbock, Courtney Watts of Odessa, step-granddaughters Brandy Watts of Odessa and Rachel Kevil of Austin, and step great-granddaughter Katie Watts of Odessa.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Michael, Mark and John Weaver, Danny Watts, Sam Watts and Tommy Bednarz.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Diabetes Association of American Heart Association.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel and Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. Monday afternoon, City of Sundown cemetery, Sundown, Texas.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
