Alfred A. ‘Shorty’ Vickrey KERMIT — Alfred A. “Shorty” Vickrey, 86, of Kermit passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Kermit Healthcare Center. He was born July 31, 1915, in Cedarvale, N.M. He married Juanita Adeliada Morton April 25, 1936, in Goree, Texas. She preceded him in death Dec. 28, 1990. He was a resident of Kermit for 50 years and was a member of Belvue Baptist Church in Kermit where he was the greeter for many years. He was a retired welder for Sid Richardson. He was preceded in death by his son, Roland Earl Vickrey; sisters, Violet Blakley and Viola Dalrymple; and his brother, John Cleveland Vickrey Jr. “Shorty” is survived by two daughters, Maurine Burns and her husband James of Kermit and Nadine Walton and her husband Cecil of San Angelo; two sisters, Lorene Ward of Littlefield, Texas, and Jo Waters of Whitharral, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Belvue Baptist Church in Kermit with the Rev. Bill Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at the Kermit cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Chapel. Pallbearers will be his loving great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Slaughter, Willie Bryant, Johnny Lee Stewart, Bobby Broom and S.W. Brooks. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Belvue Baptist Church in Kermit. Jesse Avila MIDLAND — Jesse Edward Avila, 18, of Midland, an employee of A&A Roofing Co., died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at his residence. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Revs. Ray Wilhelm and Jesse Guajardo officiating. Rosary will be said at 8 p.m. today and Friday at Reyes-Garcia Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Fairview cemetery. Arrangements by Reyes-Garcia Funeral Home. He was born in Stanton. He was Catholic. Percy Ennis ANDREWS — Percy A. Ennis, 84, of Andrews, a retired employee of Harvey’s Well Servicing in Andrews, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Permian General Hospital in Andrews. No services are scheduled. Arrangements by McNett Funeral Home. He was born in Coalgate, Okla., and moved to Andrews in 1962 from Enid, Okla. He was an Air Force veteran. He was Baptist. SURVIVORS: Wife, Aline Ennis of Andrews; sons, Ben Ennis and Allen Ennis, both of Porterville, Calif., and Johnny Burdett of Fort Worth; daughter, Jean Akagi of Porterville; sister, Jessie Bowerman of Coalgate; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Nieves Ortiz FORT STOCKTON — Nieves Avalos Ortiz, 76, of Fort Stockton, a retired ranch and farmhand, died Monday, June 3, 2002, in Fort Stockton. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Mitchell officiating. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home. He was born in Balconez, Mexico. SURVIVORS: Son, Nieves Ramon Ortiz of San Angelo; daughter, Cristela Flores of Coleman; stepdaughters, Anita Lynn Hatch of Reno, Nev., and Vicki Denise Broman of Sparks, Nev.; sister, Maria Angelica Esquivel of Del Rio; stepsisters, Anita Moreno Beloz of Acuna, Mexico, and Cruz Moreno Ortiz of Del Rio; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Carole Perry ODESSA — Carole Jean Perry, 66, of Odessa, a retired apartment manager, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rose Hill cemetery with the Rev. James Otterness officiating. Arrangements by Memorial Services. She was born in Hillsboro County. SURVIVORS: Daughters, Tresia Newbrough and Toni Beedy, both of Odessa; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Nora Fetters ODESSA — Nora Agnes Fetters, 61, of Odessa, a computer operator, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. No services are scheduled. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. She was born in Omaha, Neb., and was a longtime resident of Odessa. She was Episcopalian. SURVIVORS: Sons, Donald Ray Roys Jr., Chris Keck, Curtis Fetters and Michael Fetters, all of Odessa, and Marty Keck of Barstow; daughter, Nora Daniels of Kissimmee, Fla.; mother, Georgia Duesler of Odessa; stepfather, George Duesler of Odessa; and brother, Arthur Fetters of Des Moines, Iowa. Clayton Hughes ODESSA — Clayton Ray Hughes, 59, of Odessa, a self-employed painter, died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Rose Hill cemetery with the Rev. Mike Eddy officiating. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel. He was born in Ballinger. Alfred Klein ODESSA — Alfred Klein, 48, of Lubbock died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. Services are pending with Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Leonila Chavez ODESSA — Leonila Chavez, 79, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at her residence. She was born Feb. 18, 1923, in Manuel Benavides, Mexico. She was a homemaker and a Catholic. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesus Chavez Villa. She is survived by four sons, Alfredo Chavez of Odessa, Jesus Jose Chavez of Presidio, Alfonso Chavez and Ismael Chavez, both of Juarez, Mexico; three daughters, Maria Bejarano of Odessa, Rosario Flotte of Ojinaga, Mexico, and Lidia Burrola of Delicias, Mexico; three brothers, Jose Garcia of Santa Elena, Mexico, Francisco Garcia of Chihuahua, Mexico, and Margarito Garcia of San Carlos, Mexico; two sisters, Maria Garcia Suchil of Chihuahua and Simona Garcia of Mexicali, Baja Calif., Mexico; 25 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today, March 8, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Saturday, March 9, 2002, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Lambert ODESSA — Opal Bernice Carmack Lambert of Odessa passed away Thursday, March 7, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital being 92 years, eight months and 27 days old. She was born June 8, 1909, to Charles Fisher and Susan Lether Carmack in De Leon. Opal attended school in the Comanche County area until a teen-ager. The family moved to Haskell County where she met and married Arthur Lambert, the only one for her, Dec. 18, 1927. Opal and Arthur farmed in and around that area until the mid-40s and then moved to Irving and worked in the defense plant during World War II and later had their own business, a Mom and Pop grocery and station in the Irving area. They moved to Grand Saline in the late ’60s to their farm. She loved farm life, the animals, trees and gardening both vegetables and flowers. Opal moved to Odessa in 1987. Opal was preceded in death by her husband Nov. 2, 1974, parents, two brothers, five sisters and a grandson. She is survived by her sons, Galen M. Lambert and wife Joan of Rockwall and Charles E. Lambert and wife Ellen of Grand Saline; sister, Kathleen Tiner and husband S.L. Tiner of Odessa; sisters-in-law, Ethel Carmack of Granbury and Lois Carmack of Amarillo; brother-in-law, Henry M. King of Nacogdoches; granddaughters, Quaida Cooper of Houston, Gail Wheeler of Woodland Park, Colo., and Denise Warren of Arlington; grandsons, Chuck Lambert and Brett Lambert, both of Irving; three great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Opal loved people and was a friend to most all she came in contact with in her daily living. She was an excellent cook, seamstress and gardener. She was a Baptist. She will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2002, at the Colonial Funeral Home in Irving. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Memorial Park in Dallas. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the excellent help received from all of the home care, aides, nurses and therapists. In addition, the family expresses their thanks for the excellent care by Drs. Naidu, Darr and Parekh and the staff at Odessa Medical Center. Hubbard-Kelly is in charge of local arrangements where she will be in state through today, March 8, 2002. She will be in state at Colonial Funeral Home in Arlington on Saturday afternoon. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Ann Shaw BARSTOW — Ann Shaw, 64, of Amarillo died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at Crown of Texas Hospice in Amarillo. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2002, at the Barstow cemetery. She was born Sept. 23, 1937, in Barstow and was a resident of Amarillo for two years. She was a retired night auditor for Steven Motel in Carlsbad, N.M. She was Presbyterian. She is survived by her mother, Mary Louise Cranfill of Barstow; son, Daniel Hughes of Midland; daughter, Debra Diehl and husband Ray Diehl of Amarillo; brother, John Cranfill and wife Janet Cranfill of Pecos; granddaughters, Misti Link and husband Scott Link of Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene and Mandy Hughes of Midland; and numerous friends and relatives. Arrangements by Pecos Funeral Home. Isabelle Napper Smith ODESSA — Isabelle Smith, 83, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at the Hospice House. She was born June 15, 1918, in Red Fork, Okla. She was a homemaker and a member of Westwood Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl S. Smith in 1980 and 11 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons, Kenneth Smith and wife Patty of Sweeny, Michael Smith and wife Teresa of Mineral Wells, Randy Smith and wife Janet and Joe Smith, all of Odessa; daughter, April Kadon Fisher of Odessa; sister, Suvee Martin of Lubbock; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Weeks Dubose officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Jesse Villalobos Jr. ODESSA — Jesse Villalobos Jr., 23, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2002, in Midland. He was born Aug. 30, 1978, in Odessa to Jesus “Seny” and Linda Villalobos. He was a pipe welder for Compressor Systems Inc. and a Catholic. He is survived by his fiancee, Diana Vasques of Odessa; parents, Jesus “Seny” and Linda Villalobos of Odessa; grandmothers, Edwarda Villalobos and Sista Ruiz, both of Odessa; two brothers, Danny Villalobos of Odessa and Gilly Villalobos and wife Josie of Odessa; three sisters, Cindy Dineen and husband John of Odessa, Jolinda Molina and husband Rudy of Odessa and Mary Lou Reyes and husband Jesse of Odessa; and several nieces and nephews. Darrell Lee Adams LAKE COLEMAN — Darrell Lee Adams, 47, of Lake Coleman died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at his residence. Darrell was born May 1, 1954, in Odessa. He attended Odessa High School and Permian High School. He was happily married to Glenda Norene Adams. He studied jewelry making for several years and he loved to fish. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Norene of Lake Coleman; parents, Delores and Glen Adams of Odessa; his sister, Glenda Lynn Adams of Odessa; and grandmother, Helen Carter Ventress of Terlton, Okla. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2002, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman. Burial will follow at Coleman cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
