He was born in Coyame. He was Catholic. SURVIVORS: Wife, Socorro Montes Carbajal of Coyame; sons, Bruno M. Carbajal and Mario Carbajal, both of Odessa; and daughters, Ana M. Carbajal, Pilar Carbajal, Perla Carbajal, Corina Carbajal and Mayra Carbajal, all of Odessa. Alice Thompson ODESSA — Alice M. Thompson, 72, of Rogers, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, in Rogers. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. She was born in Bell County and was a longtime resident of Odessa. She was Baptist. SURVIVORS: Daughters, Sherry Huff of Converse and Sue Bentley of Houston; stepson, Eulan Thompson of California; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Berniece Griffin MIDLAND — Berniece “Babe” Freitag Griffin, 84, of Midland, a former realtor, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, in Midland. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ellis Funeral Home in Midland. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at the Mertzon cemetery in Mertzon. Arrangements by Ellis Funeral Home of Midland. She was born in Irion County. SURVIVORS: Sons, Sammie Hodges of Midland and Rick Griffin of Friendswood; daughter, Beckie Pickering of Midland; brothers, Bill Freitag Jr. of El Dorado and Jimmy Freitag of Harrisonville, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Elena Melendez ODESSA — Elena H. Melendez, 89, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home. She was born in Terlingua. SURVIVORS: Son, Alfredo Melendez of Lovington, N.M.; daughters, Elva Melendez, Manuela Portillo, Carmen Hernandez and Zenaida Hernandez, all of Odessa, and Victoriana Subia of Presidio; 24 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Agripina Orona BRIDGEPORT — Agripina Anaya Orona, 93, of Colorado City, a homemaker, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, in Bridgeport. A private family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Arrangements by Hawkins Funeral Home of Bridgeport. She was born in Colorado City. She was a Jehovah’s Witness. SURVIVORS: Daughters, Lola Herring of Fort Worth, Lupe Goats of Odessa and Nancy Madrid of Bridgeport; sons, Jose Orona and Jesse Orona, both of Odessa, and Pete Orona of Florenceville; 34 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Biggun McCullough CLEBURNE — Biggun McCullough, 89, of Cleburne, a driller, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, in Fort Worth. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cleburne Funeral Home Chapel with Rick Cobb and Randy Rogers officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood cemetery. Arrangements by Cleburne Funeral Home of Cleburne. He was born in Whitney. He was Baptist. SURVIVORS: Wife, Bell McCullough of Cleburne; sons, Johnny McCullough of Plano, James McCullough Jr. of Porter and Roy L. McCullough of Carrolton; stepdaughter, Jean Cotter of Cleburne; brother, Buster McCullough of Seminole; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Trevor Dalrymple ODESSA — Trevor Orion Dalrymple, an infant, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, in Odessa. Services are pending with Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. J.T. Townsend DENVER CITY — J.T. Townsend, 80, of Denver City, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002. Services are pending with Ratliff Funeral Home. Charles Rehmert ODESSA — Charles Rehmert, affectionately known as Charlie, lost the battle of cancer after 10 months, and passed away Sept. 10, 2002. He had requested that he be at home, surrounded by his family and his beloved cats, Little Girl and Boo Boo. Charlie was born in St. Louis, Mo., April 14, 1942, and attended schools there and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. While in the Air Force, he was a radar man and served in the Vietnam conflict. In 1972 he moved to the Permian Basin and started working in the oilfield both locally and over-seas. Leaving production in the oilfield, he called upon the radar experience and became a computer tech in the petroleum industry. He recently completed his 20th year with Exxon and leaves many fine friends all over the United States. Trains, the cats, travel, the computer and golf were Charlie’s pastimes, and he would brag about watching the sunsets while on the links with good friends. Though he did not get to enjoy his dream of setting up a rail yard in the hobby area of his home, he has many collectible trains his family has given him and that he procured. He was preceded in death by his beloved father Charles; his good friend and father-in-law, James Mayfield; and his mother. Surviving is his wife of almost 25 years, Patricia Rehmert of Odessa, her sons, Royce Payne and David Payne of Odessa, and daughter, Tina Broughton of Amarillo, and their families; his two daughters, Helen Martin of Arnold, Mo., and Sharon Wofe of St. Louis, Mo., and their families; son, Chuck Guzman and his family of St. Louis, Mo.; stepmother, Allyne Rehmert of Oklahoma City, Okla.; as well as 10 grandchildren. The family will receive visitors at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Funeral Home today, between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m. The service will be held today, September 13, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Neeper, Terry Lambdin, Larry Roan, Doug Gressett, David Fix, Harry Turner, Ron Stewart and Rusty Freeman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Home Hospice of Odessa or the American Cancer Society. Anna Mae Lyall Buttram ODESSA — Anna Mae Lyall Buttram, 93, of Odessa, died on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002. A visitation will be held at the Bates Funeral Home and Dekalb, Texas, on Saturday from 6 to 7 p.m. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Woodmen cemetery in Dekalb, Texas. She was born on May, 5, 1909, in Childress, Texas, and married Veasy Bill Buttram on June 9, 1928, in Childress. He preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1983. She attended the Church of Christ in Odessa and First Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. She played piano for bible class in Houston and taught bible classes. Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Dr. Veasy C. Bill Buttram Jr. and his wife Suzanne of Houston, John O. Buttram and Marlene Rodgers, both of Houston; one daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Mark Knox of Odessa; and one brother, Overton Lyall of Channel View. She also was preceded in death by three daughters, Kitty Williams, Patricia Buttram, and Jo Lyall Hunter. The family wishes to recognize and thank the staff at The Lois Owens Home for their tender loving care and Home Hospice, who saw her daily. We also thank the men from the Sixth and Jackson Street Church of Christ who served her communion each Sunday when she was no longer able to attend regular church services. Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home and Crematory in Midland. Gordon H. White Sr. ODESSA — Gordon H. White Sr. was a husband, a father, a grandfather and a great-grandfather. He was affectionately known as “pap-pa” to most of his grandchildren and “big pap-pa in boots to his great-grandchildren. He was born on Dec. 20, 1924, in Cunningham, Texas. His parents were Maggie Lee Green and Guy Curtis White. Dad served in World War II in the Panamanian Canal Zone as a medic and attained the rank of Tech Sergeant. During his tenure in the military he received several military awards and was discharged to return home to the Powderly and Cunningham area where he returned to farming. There, he met Eva Jo Turner and they were married on March 9, 1946. It was during the early 50’s that the lure of the oilfield seduced our family to West Texas where dad spent several years working in the oilfield. His family had now grown from two to five with the birth of James Curtis White, Gordon H. White Jr. and Michael L. White. Dad became involved with FFA through his son’s and began to raise a few head of cattle. Subsequently, those few heads of cattle grew and, as a result, he moved his cattle operation to Carbon, Texas, south of Abilene. He retired from El Paso Hydrocarbons Ranger Plant in 1986. He raised registered Simmental cattle on 300 acres of land he kept planted in coastal graze and continued to actively work his ranch, actively participate in the Eastland County FFA and shared ownership in the Carbon Agri-Center until the age of 75. Dad retired from ranching in 2000, due to failing eyesight and returned to Odessa where he and Eva Jo resided until his death on Sept. 11, 2002. It will be the little things we remember and miss the most about dad: the smiles, the laughter, the stories and the quiet moments. We love you dad. He is survived by his wife, Eva Jo White of Odessa; sons, James Curtis White and wife Rosetta of Odessa, Gordon H. White Jr. and wife Marsha of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Mike White and wife Surina of Odessa; brother, Bill Grimmett of Dallas; sisters, Christine Hilton and Cumi Jacobs, both of Fort Worth; six grandchildren, Rhonda, Tommy, Jimmy, Shauna, Jody and Shannon; and six great-grandchildren, Nick, Brandon, Hannah, Lexi, Blake and Colton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J.D. Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. I thought that you had left me, For the stars so far above. And then I heard the angel say, “They left you with their love.” —Bobbi Davis Anna Lee Maddox ODESSA — Anna Lee Maddox, 89, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born June 1, 1913, in Hermleigh. She moved with her family to Gaines County as a small child. Her father and brothers worked a farm just outside Seminole. She attended school in Seminole and later went to work for the Seminole State Bank and Kermit National Bank before moving to Odessa where she worked for First National Bank for 14 years. She was a member of Highland United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the U.M.W. and the Friendship Sunday School Class. She married Otis Maddox Aug. 15, 1970, in Big Spring. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, C.H. and Minerva Jane Wescott, four brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by her brother, W.H. Bill” Wescott of Seminole, sister-in-law, Nancy Wescott of Hart; nieces and nephews, Dorothy Vaughan and husband Bob, Maude Stains and husband Rick and Jay Wescott, all of Odessa, Lee Wescott and wife Dee an Ruidoso, N.M., Jane Collen and Betty Plummer of Port Aransas, Lou Tilley and Sue Wescott of Austin; Claude Wescott and wife Cindy of Las Cruces, N.M., Ann Green and husband Perry of Springfield, Mo., Marci Jones and husband Tom of Amarillo, Cathy Burleson and husband Jerry, Lenora Burns and husband Bob, all of Seminole; many great-nieces, nephews; cousins and many friends at Lincoln Towers, Nurses Unlimited and the church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at Highland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Scott officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Highland United Methodist Church. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Benny Freeman ODESSA — Benny Freeman, 70, of Odessa passed away Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Aug. 20, 1932 in Trent. He worked in the oilfield for 45 years and retired from Ector County after 10 years of service and later worked for Freeman Trucking Co. He married Audrey Snyder Nov. 5, 2000, in Las Vegas, Nev. He enjoyed woodworking. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Dorothy Faye Freeman Oct. 16, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Snyder Freeman of Odessa; son, Ricky L. Freeman of Odessa; daughters, Jewel Rene’ Seibold of Phoenix, Ariz. and Regina Louise Gilchrist of Odessa; brothers, Bobby Freeman of Odessa, Wayne Freeman of Hennessey, Okla. and Tommy Freeman of San Angelo; sisters, Nina Faye Rials of Muleshoe and Doris Fellers of Odessa; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Wayne Shelton officiating. Interment will be 4 p.m. Monday at The Eastland cemetery in Eastland. Funeral services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
