Warren "Mac" McBride

BAYOU VISTA - Warren "Mac" McBride, 79, of Bayou Vista, Texas, died Monday, January 26, 2004, at the University of Texas Medical Center in Galveston, Texas. Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2004, at Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church in Galveston, with Rev. Richard Goodrich and Rev. Charles Bagley officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church from 12 noon until service time. Burial will be held at a later date at Archer EUB Church cemetery in Archer, Nebraska.

"Mac" was born on December 31, 1924, in Lamar, Colorado to Ellis and Pearl Crosswhite McBride. He graduated from Lamar High School in 1942, and attended the University of Denver. Mac served in the United States Marine Corps Second and Third Divisions in the South Pacific. He saw action in Saipan, Okinawa, and Iwo Jima.

He married Wauneta Wegner on September 23, 1950, in Denver, Colorado. The couple lived in Denver, and Glendale, California, before settling in Archer, Nebraska in 1954, where Mac went to work at Archer Coop Credit Assn. and the Archer post office. He continued there until his retirement in September, 1990. He was one of the founders of Archer Grain Company. In 1992, Mac and Wauneta retired to Bayou Vista, Texas.

"Mac" was a member of the Moody Memorial First Methodist Church of Galveston. He was a wonderful and dedicated husband and father. He enjoyed his cabin in Central City, traveling and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren.

"Mac" was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mildred Chesnut.

Survivors include his wife, Wauneta; daughter, Kelly McBride of Sugar Land, Texas; son, Pat (Lauren) McBride, of Baytown, Texas; two grandchildren, Kaitlin and Jake McBride; one brother, Ray McBride, of Los Angeles, California, sisters-in-law Vivian Wallace of Denver, Colorado and Phyllis Vaughn of Brenham, Texas; brother-in-law Leland Wegner of Mission, Texas, and many extended family members and friends.

Memorials may be sent to Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church, 2803 - 53rd Street, Galveston, Texas 77551.

Thelma M. Hart

Thelma M. Hart, 81, passed away Friday, January 23, 2004.

She was preceded in death by her husband, D.W. Hart, and two sons, William Fredrick Knapp, Jr. and Ronald Russell Knapp.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nikki L. and Joseph A. Kohmescher of Tampa, Florida; son, Don D. Knapp of Texas City, Texas; five granddaughters, Michelle L. Briggs of San Bernardino, California, Shawnna Demers of Pasadena, Texas, Lori Doherty of Santa Fe, Texas, Melinda Noland of Tampa, Florida, and Crystal Knapp of Santa Fe, Texas; three grandsons, Brian E Hooter of Tampa, Florida, and Donny Demers of Texas City, Texas, and William (Tre) F. Knapp III of Dickinson, Texas; six great-grandchildren, sisters, Phyllis Taylor and Lorraine Thorn; brother, Doug Spencer, and nieces and nephews.

She proudly served in WWII with the WAVES and retired from Galveston County Texas as a legal secretary.

In lieu of flowers, in memory of her love of reading, donations can be made either to your local library or to SuperPages.com/Verizon Reads for literacy programs nationwide.

Robert Edward "Bob" Wimberly

HOUSTON - Robert Edward "Bob" Wimberly passed away on January 25, 2004, at the VA Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was born in Galveston, Texas on August 16, 1930, to Claude Edward "Honey" and Zenda Wimberly. Bob received two degrees from Texas A&M class of '51 and was a proud member of the Corps of Cadets and the Ross Volunteers. Bob was the first administrator of the Lunar Science Institute in the NASA area of Houston.

He is survived by his sister, Billie Jean Higgins of Phoenix, Arizona; his aunt, Louise Hagood of Paris, Texas. And three children by his former wife, Winnette Wimberly, MD, of Houston. Their children are Cynthia Wimberly of Alpine, Texas, David Wimberly, MD, of Friendswood, Texas, Sally Eustice of Houston, Texas and ten grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by their son Michael Edward Wimberly.

A memorial service will be held at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home in Friendswood, Texas at 5 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2004. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to a favorite charity.

George Harold Grubbs

WINNSBORO, TEXAS - George Harold Grubbs, 80, passed away Monday, January 26, 2004, in Mt. Vernon, Texas.

He was born December 18, 1923, in Hopkins County, Texas. He was a former Business Agent for Pipefitters Local Union 211 in Texas City; was a member of the Caterpillar Club, Veteran of WWII, three years in the US Army serving as a corporal and was a disabled veteran. In 2001, at age 77, he received his high school diploma from Winnsboro ISD at the All School Reunion afternoon program. This program was for students that left high school to serve in armed forces during WWII.

He is preceeded in death by his parents Algie John Grubbs and Lillian Irene Grubbs; brother, Bobby Grubbs and sister Ronalda Whatley.

He is survived by his wife Frances M. Grubbs; daughters and son-in-law, Sheilia and Terry Baimbridge of Santa Fe, Texas, Deylse Hart and significant other, Mick Guedry of Santa Fe, Texas and Jalayne and David Robinson of Winnsboro, Texas; brothers, Douglas Grubbs, Mickey Ray Grubbs, Johnny Grubbs all of Winnsboro, Texas, and Paul Grubbs of Delight, Arkansas.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at the Beaty Funeral Home in Winnsboro, Texas, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 29, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Beaty Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Nub Brown and Rev. James McLeod officiating. Burial will follow in Harmony cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mickey Ray Grubbs, Brandon Baimbridge, Ian Hart, Johnny Grubbs, Paulie Grubbs and Douglas Grubbs.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Grubbs, Terry Baimbridge, Nick Guedry, David Robinson, Whit Reed, Brian Reed and Charles Harris.

Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

Dolly Hearn Moore

ALGOA - Mrs. Dolly Hearn Moore passed from this life Tuesday morning, January 27, 2004, at her residence with her loving family.

Born May 28, 1920, in Ashland, Kentucky, Mrs. Moore had been a resident of Algoa since 1930. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who will be sadly missed by her loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-seven years, Eddie Moore; her parents, Ellis and Sally Hearn; sisters, Bertie Aylor and Joyce Champion; brothers, Ed, John and Bob Hearn.

She is survived by her loving children, son, Bobby and Shirley Moore of Algoa; daughters, Billie and Frank Marabella of Santa Fe, Carol and Frank Greathouse of Algoa. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who affectionately called her "Nanny",Teri and Bill Watson and sons, Robbie and Andrew, Brian and Nancy Moore and children, Travis, Alison, and Damian, Lori Ward and son, Jordan, Bruce and Tracy Moore and children, Ashton, Mallory and Cambden, Eric and Alice Greathouse and children, Garrett and Kaylie, Douglas and Nita Greathouse and sons, Douglas Jr. and Hunter, Jeffrey and Stephenie Marabella and children Birkley, Charlie and Faith, Tonya Greathouse and Bradley Moore.

Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2004, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Pastor Beverly Collinsworth officiating. Interment will follow at Grace Memorial Park cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Frank Cole, Douglas Greathouse, Brian Moore, Bruce Moore, Bradley Moore and Jeffrey Marabella. Honorary casketbearers will be Bill Watson, George Gates and Frank Marabella.

Friends may call from 5 - 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501.

Willie Maude Dawson Ellis

TEXAS CITY - The greatest event in the lives of the children of Willie Maude Dawson Ellis was the day she was born, October 10, 1927 to Tommie Dawson Sr. and Alma Dawson in Arcadia, Louisiana. She was the first born of four children.

She was baptized at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Arcadia, Louisiana at an early age. She was a member of Greater Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. L. B. Brown.

She departed this life on Monday, January 26, 2004, at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City.

She is preceded in death by both parents, two brothers, Preston and Tommie Lee Dawson; and one grandson, Daryl Lawrence Baines.

She will be greatly missed by her three daughters, Barbara Causey Baines, Alma Allen and Michele; one sister, Ommie Lee Simmons all of Texas City. She also leaves three grandchildren, David Lenn Baines of Houston, Sonya and Tanya Barrett of Texas City; four great-grandchildren, Ashley Baines, David and D'vante Taylor and Dorinda Baines; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; a sister-in-law, Nell Dawson; special caring friend, Marci Simmons and devoted friends, O. T. Simmons, John Todd and Helen Johnson who will miss her presence "sitting on the porch."

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2004, at the Mainland Funeral Home Chapel in La Marque. There will be no wake. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2004, at Greater Barbour's Chapel Baptist Church, 801 Martin Luther King Blvd. in Texas City with Pastor James E. Brown Sr., officiating. Burial will follow at Mainland Memorial cemetery in Hitchcock.
