Alen Loyal Saunders

GALVESTON - Alen passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2004. He was born January 9, 1928, in Monroe, Michigan. He was raised in Hollywood, California with his 12 siblings. Alen was a Merchant Marine Engineer who loved to travel and loved the sea. He was a wonderful and loving husband and father.

Alen leaves behind two daughters, Karen Saunders of Nassau Bay, Texas and her three children, Athena, John and Clifton Saunders; and Paula Foster of Phoenix, Arizona and her two children James and Lauren Johann; four great-grandchildren, Avery and Mariah Saunders, Caden Bean, and Pete Guttierrez.

Corinne Capuano Williams

GALVESTON - Corinne Capuano Williams of Galveston, Texas, peacefully went to her rest on Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at the home of her daughter, Robin, in Santa Fe, Texas. A chapel service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, June 4, 2004, in the Memorial Room of Broadway Funeral Home in Galveston, with Fr. John H. Kappe, Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Santa Fe, Texas, officiating. Burial will follow services Friday at Calvary cemetery, also in Galveston. Mrs. Williams’ family will be receiving friends for visitation at the funeral home Friday afternoon from noon until service time.

Corinne was born October 12, 1917, in Denison, Texas to Joseph and Sidonia Aloi Capuano. She moved to Galveston at an early age and attended Galveston schools. Corinne resided at the Village by the Sea Apartments until April of 2004, when her health failed. She enjoyed a long career in the hospitality industry as a professional secretary before becoming an apartment manager. Corinne was most proud of her time at the Flagship Hotel where she worked side by side with "The best boss I ever had", Jack Bushong.

Mrs. Williams is preceded in death by her son Robert "Bobby" Gardner, Jr., her grandson, Cory Lewis, her son-in-law, Sam F. Lewis, her parents and also her brothers, Nick, Vincent, Joe, Johnny and Frank Capuano and one sister, Angelina Capuano.

Mrs. Williams is survived by her daughter, Robin J. Deharde-Lewis of Santa Fe, Texas; her grandchildren, Joni Wheelis Vitek and husband, Jim, George Deharde, Jr., Robert "Chuck" Deharde and wife, Sheryl, Ronald Deharde (her hero), Randy Deharde and wife, Evelyn, Robin Corinne Reid and husband, Vernon, Frank Deharde and wife, Kathy, all of Santa Fe, Texas, Mari A. Deharde and partner Cheryl Brown of Rosenberg, Texas, Joseph Wheelis and wife, Maryann of Galveston, Texas, 15 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her beloved sister, Rosalie Sanchez of Galveston, Texas and brother, Carl Capuano and wife, Bernice of Houston, Texas, many nieces and nephews, a host of other loving family and friends.

Corinne is a self-made career woman who always did things her way. She was a charter member of the National Secretary Association and was secretary to the Beachcomber Golf Association for many years. Corinne loved to dance, read and in her later years, she enjoyed drinking coffee in the afternoons at Randall’s with her many friends. She also enjoyed her activities at the Senior Center in Galveston.

Pallbearers will Mrs. Williams’ grandsons.

Also, Mrs. Williams’ family would like to take this opportunity to give a very special thank you to Amed Community Hospice for all the wonderful loving care that was given to her during this most difficult time. Your kindness will always be remembered.

Ivan "Dave" Davidson, Sr.

SANTA FE - Mr. Ivan "Dave" Davidson, Sr. passed from this life Monday afternoon, May 31, 2004, in Texas City.

Born May 30, 1925, in Dyserburg, Tennessee, Mr. Davidson had been a resident of the Santa Fe area for over 30 years. He had been employed at Monsanto for 30 years as a heavy equipment operator and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He enjoyed working in his garden and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by wife, Effie O'Connor Davidson and son, Ivan "Bubba" Davidson, Jr.

Survivors include his daughter, Kathryn "Kat" Davidson of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Ivan "Bubba" Davidson, III, Mark Anthony Davidson, Toni Marie Davidson and great-granddaughter, Victoria Elyse Davidson.

Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2004, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Reverend John Kappe officiating. Interment will follow at Galveston Memorial Park cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Kenneth "Rooster" Auzston, Joe Culpepper, Bubba Davidson, Mark Davidson, Freddy O'Connor and Ray Perry.

Friends may call from 5 - 8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501.

Those who wish may make memorials in the form of donations to Regency Hospice, 2800 West Main, Suite C, League City, TX., 77573.

Allen Ray Eves

GALVESTON - Allen Ray Eves, 58, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2004, at his residence in Galveston. He was born October 17, 1945, in Indianapolis, Indiana and for well over 20 years has been a merchant marine.

Allen was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving during the Vietnam era and was a recipient of several awards and medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device and also the Navy Unit Commendation. As a Lance Corporal, he was honorably discharged February 5, 1969.

Allen is survived by his fiancé, Jenna Ware of Galveston; his brother, Robert Eves of Columbus, Ohio; and also two sisters, Loretta Jenkins and Yvonne Duff.

In honoring his wishes for cremation, an informal memorial service and Irish Wake will be held in Allen’s memory on Friday, June 4, 2004, at 2 p.m., at 2328 Avenue P 1/2, Galveston, Texas.

Cremation services are being provided under the direction of Broadway Funeral Home, Galveston.

Robert Hammonds

HITCHCOCK - Mr. Robert Hammonds was born March 30, 1901, to Shelby and Charity Thompson Hammonds in Chappell Hill, Texas, the fourth of fourteen children.

Mr. Hammonds, a share cropper, spent most of his life in Chappell Hill, until 1997, when he came to live with his sister in Hitchcock, Texas. He was a member of Wilbur Chapel United Methodist Church in Hitchcock. Mr. Hammonds was honored by the City of Texas City and the Governor of Texas on his 103 birthday.

He departed this life Monday, May 31, 2004, at Ashton Parke Care Center in Texas City. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Josephine; one son, one daughter, eight brothers and three sisters.

He leaves to cherish his memory two devoted sisters, Mrs. Lue Ella Randon of Brazoria and Mrs. Mable Williams of Hitchcock; a brother-in-law, Mr. Leroy Williams of Chappell Hill; numerous devoted nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, June 3, 2004, at the Mainland Funeral Home Chapel in La Marque. There will be no wake. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2004, at Wilbur Chapel United Methodist Church, 7002 Martin Luther King Blvd. in Hitchcock with Rev. Joy Turner, officiating. Burial will follow at Mainland Memorial cemetery in Hitchcock.

Michael Wayne Henderson

TEXAS CITY - Michael Wayne Henderson, 49, departed this life on Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City, Texas. Michael was born July 4, 1954, in Texas City, Texas to James and Myrtle Henderson. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Greater Barbour's Chapel Baptist Church in Texas City, Texas, where he remained a member until his death.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2004 at Greater Barbour's Chapel Baptist Church, 801 1st Avenue South, Texas City, Texas. A wake will be held from 7-8 p.m. at the church.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Greater Barbour's Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park cemetery in Hitchcock.

Michael graduated from La Marque High School in 1972, and joined the armed services in 1973. After serving his country, he became employed with Marathon Oil in Texas City and was a member of the OCAW Local 4-449. He later joined The Pride of Texas City Masonic Lodge #193.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtel Henderson; and sister, Norma Faye Henderson.

He leaves to cherish his memories his father, James Henderson, Sr.; two sons, Reginald Joiner and Cornell Porter; two daughters, Menyadda Daniels and Michael Henderson; three sisters, Clara Henderson, Lucille Allen and Beatrice McKenzie (Jeff); one brother, James Henderson, Jr., (Phyllis); six aunts, Pauline Williams, Gertrude Craddock, Virdie Brown (Roy), Mary Bennett (Benjamin), Georgia Johnson (James), and Doris Patterson; five uncles, Frank Henderson (Darlene), Roosevelt Henderson (Vassie), Earnest Hearn, Roosevelt Hearn (Thelma), and Richard Hearn (Betty); devoted companion of 12 years, Carolyn Green; one godson, Errick Henderson; four grandchildren; 5 nieces; 3 nephews; and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.

Felicitas Castro

GALVESTON - Felicitas Castro, 92, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at The University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 3, 2004, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Galveston, with Fr. John Paul Flajole, O.F.M., as Celebrant. Burial will follow services Saturday at Grace Memorial Park cemetery in Alta Loma, Texas. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, April 2, 2004, in the Memorial Room of Broadway Funeral Home. Mrs. Castro’s family will be receiving friends for visitation at the funeral home Friday evening after 5 p.m.

Mrs. Castro was born in San Antonio, Texas November 20, 1911, however, for most all of her life has lived here on Galveston Island with her loving family. As a dedicated wife and homemaker, Mrs. Castro gave very generously to the nurturing of her children, their children and to their families. She provided a very solid family foundation and to the commitment of strong family values and she will forever be remembered for the many contributions she made to her entire family. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Mrs. Castro is preceded in death by her parents, Faustino and Pauline Reyes, her husband, Manuel Castro, one of her daughters, Manuela Mendoza, her son-in-law, Raymond J. Caballero, Jr. and several of her brothers and sisters.

She leaves behind many wonderful memories with her loving children, Alexander Rodriguez and wife, Aileen of Ft. Washington, Maryland, Robert Castro and wife, Anna Marie of Portland, Oregon, Estella Garcia and husband, Albert of Galveston, Joe Tilo Castro and wife, Lorenza of Santa Fe, Texas, Lupe Caballero of Galveston, Jesse Castro and wife, Belia of La Marque, Julie Balusek of LaPorte, Texas, Patricia Ann Koury and husband, Steve of Brockton, Massachusetts, Juanita Poole and husband, Robert of Anchorage, Alaska and Melissa Waterman of Texas City. Sharing in her loss, also, are Mrs. Castro’s many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren, her brother, Frank Adame of Austin, Texas, son-in-law, Jake Mendoza of Galveston, numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, a host of other loving family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Michael Wooley, Jr., Samuel W. Castro, Frank Castro, Albert Garcia, Ryan Castro, Ernest Montemayor, Michael Mendoza, and Robert R. Castro, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Phillip Mendoza, Anton Balusek, August Balusek and Ray Castro.

Mrs. Castro’s family would like to take this opportunity to give a very special thank you to Dr. Luis Leon and his entire staff at Galveston Family Health. Also, a special thank you to the entire medical staff of The University of Texas Medical Branch, 7C. Your very kind attention given to our mother while in your care is so very much appreciated. We sincerely thank you for your thoughtfulness and support to all of our family.
