HITCHCOCK - Mr. Timothy Parker departed this life Sunday, January 11, 2004, at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2004, at the Mainland Funeral Home Chapel in La Marque. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2004, at Greater St. Matthews Baptist Church, 6333 Highway 6 in Hitchcock with Pastor William L. Randall Jr., officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park cemetery in Hitchcock.

Mr. Parker was born to the late Mr. William and Mrs. Pearl Edna Thomas Parker in Waxia, Louisiana on May 8, 1933. He was known around the community for his variety of vegetables he grew and sold after his retirement from Hitchcock ISD. He had such a "green thumb" to where he helped cultivate a once vacant and weed filled lot into a thriving green garden which fed many senior citizens at the Hitchcock Senior Center's garden. This garden was named the "Garden of Eatin" which was featured in the Galveston County Daily News in 1996.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Pearl Edna Parker; wife, Vera Parker; brothers, Abraham Parker, Daniel Parker, Isaac Parker, Oscar "Pete" Parker and Samuel Parker; and sister, Ruthie Mae Parker.

His survivors are two sons, Timothy Wayne Parker (Yvonne) and Michael Anthony Parker (special friend, April); sister, Pearlie Mae Alexander (James); three aunts, Mary Hicks, Leana Smith and Lillie Marshall; two grandchildren, Michael Anthony Parker Jr. and Zoe Angelina Parker; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Lee Parker and Annie Mae Parker; also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

Patrick Reilly

Patrick Reilly died peacefully Tuesday, January 13, 2004, surrounded by family and friends, after a difficult battle with lung cancer. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1937, Pat spent his childhood in West Helena, Arkansas. After graduating from high school in Roswell, New Mexico, Pat attended Washington & Lee University, in Lexington, Virginia, where he played football and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He received his undergraduate degree from W & L in 1959, and then obtained his law degree from the University of Texas.

After law school, Patrick served a one-year clerkship with Justice George Rose Smith of the Arkansas Supreme Court. After his clerkship, Pat began his professional career as an associate at the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock before returning to West Helena to practice with his uncle, James P. Baker, Jr. Patrick and his young family moved to Galveston in 1968, where Pat worked at the Mills, Shirley firm, first as an associate and later as a partner. Pat then began his solo practice, which continued until he joined the Enos Law Firm last year.

During his long and successful career, Patrick was Board Certified in Residential and Commercial Real Estate and Family Law. He served as an Associate Judge in family cases from 1986 to 2001. He was a founding member and served as President of the Galveston County Family Bar Association. Patrick was also a trained mediator. Last year, Texas Lawyer named Patrick as the leading divorce lawyer in Galveston.

Before his illness, Patrick was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, serving in the vestry and as a frequent lay reader.

Patrick is predeceased by his parents, John Patrick Reilly, Sr., and Olive Baker Griffith.

He is survived by his adoring wife, Nina, and his two beautiful daughters, Anne, of Galveston, and Margaret, of Llano, Texas, along with Margaret's husband, Dr. Jack Franklin, and their two precious children, Erin and Quentin. Patrick also leaves a host of special friends whose love and support helped him through his illness, including Greg and Sharon Enos, Hon. Jan Yarbrough, Vicki Lewis, Marlene Casey, Ed and Gaye Evans, and many others.

The family will receive visitors at the James Crowder Funeral Home, 111 E. Medical Center Blvd., Webster, Texas, on Thursday, January 15, 2004, from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Galveston on Friday, January 16, 2004, at 10 a.m., followed by a reception at Eaton Hall.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 570127, Houston, Texas 77257-0127, or Trinity Episcopal Church, 2216 Ball St., Galveston, Texas 77550, or a charity of the giver's choice.

TEXAS CITY - Homegoing celebration for Minneola Guidry, will be held on Friday, January 16, 2004, at 1 p.m., at the Augustus Chapel, 832 5th Ave N., in Texas City. Burial will follow at Rising Star cemetery. Visitation is today, January 15, 2004, from 3-7 p.m. A wake will follow.

She leaves to cherish her memories; daughter, Jeanne Kitson; sisters, Anna Woodard, Evelyn Cole and Jewell Thomas; best friend, Loubertha Williams.

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA - Homegoing celebration for Winfred Earl Yancy, will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Yale Street Baptist Church, 4315 Yale St., in Houston, with the Rev. Holcombe, pastor and the Rev. Stan Lewis, officiating. Visitation is from 9-11 a.m., Saturday morning at the church. Burial will follow at Forest Park East cemetery, Webster. Local visitation is Friday, January 16, 2004, from 3-5 p.m., at the Augustus Chapel, 832 5th Ave N., Texas City.

He entered this life June 19, 1953. His life expired on this side of heaven on January 10, 2004, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Survivors include his wife; Jacqueline Smith Yancy; daughters, Kristalyn and Ashley Yancy; parents, Henry and Ruby Yancy; maternal grandmother, Bernice Henderson; brother, Bobby (Ramona) Yancy; sisters, Ruby Jo (Michael) Allen, Teresa (Jerald) Nedd; mother-in-law, Theopia Smith; brother-in-law, Joe W. Smith, Jr; three sisters-in-law, Laverne Scales, Thelma Bowie and Debra Gary (Russell) and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ruth Hewitt

GALVESTON - Ruth Hewitt passed away on January 14, 2004, in Galveston at the age of 99 years. She was born in Ovid, New York, graduated from Cornell University in 1926, and was a school teacher and librarian. After her retirement, she lived in Galveston since 1970.

She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Frank Hewitt, and she is survived by her son, Thomas Hewitt, and her grandsons, Steven Hewitt and Michael Hewitt.

The family thanks Dr. Ruth Baxter for her care and consideration during Ruth’s last illness.

Private services are pending in Mobile, Alabama. Memorials may be sent to The First Presbyterian Church, 1903 Church Street, Galveston, TX 77550.

Ramiro C. Salinas, Sr.

GALVESTON - Ramiro C. Salinas, Sr., 71, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2004 at The University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2004, at Reina de la Paz Catholic Church, Galveston, with Fr. Serafin Cejudo, Pastor, as Celebrant. Burial will follow services Saturday at Lakeview cemetery, also in Galveston. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, January 16, 2004, in the Memorial Room of Broadway Funeral Home. Mr. Salinas’ family will be receiving friends for visitation at the funeral home Friday evening after 5 p.m.

Mr. Salinas was born March 12, 1932, in Hacienda de la Guadalupe, Mexico, however, for most all of his life he has been a longtime resident of Galveston Island. A welder for at least eighteen years, Mr. Salinas was employed, by Todd Shipyards, initially, before moving over to Kelso’s. He was a member in good standing with Woodmen of the World for some forty-two years, holding several different offices, including president of the island’s local chapter. Mr. Salinas was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He devoted much of his personal time to his catholic beliefs and serving his church family at Reina de la Paz Catholic Church. He will be forever remembered for his hard work and dedication to the church and he will be deeply missed.

Mr. Salinas is predeceased in death by one of his daughters, Rosa Salinas, two of his sons, Ruben Salinas and Richard Salinas, his parents, Refugio and San Juana Salinas and also two of his brothers, Rosendo Salinas and Remigio Salinas.

He leaves behind many wonderful memories with his loving wife of fifty-one years, Marie R. Salinas of Galveston, Texas and his loving children, Rebecca Reyna of Galveston and Maria S. Elizondo and husband Joe R. Elizondo, Sr. of Galveston, Ramiro Salinas, Jr. of Galveston and Rolando Salinas and wife, MaryAnn, also of Galveston. Sharing in his loss, too, are Mr. Salinas’ eleven loving grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Concepcion Lozano of Rio Grande, Texas and Esther Pena of Galveston, Texas; his brother, Luciano Salinas and wife, Francisca of La Marque, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, a host of other loving family and friends. He will forever be remembered in the hearts of his family and friends, always.

Pallbearers will be Rolando Salinas, Joe R. Elizondo, Sr., Eloy Beltran, Jr., Danny Reyna, Jr., Aurelio Salinas Lozano, Mario Cisneros and Justo Reyna, Jr.

Emanuel Cantu

PEARLAND - Emanuel Cantu, 91, peacefully passed away January 14, 2004. Born on December 18, 1912, in Mercedes, Texas. He was a veteran of the US Navy, World War II, serving in Okinawa in the South Pacific. Manuel lived life to the fullest, enjoyed reading inspirational and positive mental books, cooking bar-b-que and fishing whenever possible. His super positive attitude was an inspiration to all that came to know him. Never one to complain, his broad smile, great sense of humor and happy demeanor stayed with him always.

He is survived by his loving family including his wife, Charlotte; son, Fred Cantu; stepson, Donald Corey; daughters, Violet Ingrum, Carol Sue Chany; stepdaughters, Marilyn Varra, Janet Seister, Connie Diehl; sister, Gloris Simmang; brother, Robert Cantu; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 16, 2004, at 1 p.m., Shrine of the True Cross Catholic Church, 300 FM 517, Dickinson, 281-337-4112, with the Rev. Paul Felix officiating. Rite of Committal to follow in Resurrection cemetery, Pearland.

Those honored as pallbearers are Fred Cantu, Mike Cantu, John Cantu, David Cantu, Brian Finney and Andy Powers.
