Ray Allen Bryant

TEXAS CITY — Ray Allen Bryant, 50, of Texas City, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, December 14, 2004.

A memorial service will be held for him at 10 a.m., Saturday, December 18, 2004, at the First Pentecostal Church, 1602 – 29th Street, Texas City, with Sister Geneva Marris officiating.

Mr. Bryant was born January 17, 1954, in Walker County, Georgia. He retired from Amoco after 25 years of service as a shift operator.

He is preceded in death by his father Ernest Bryant.

Survivors include his mother, Vennie Bryant, of Texas City; daughter Jennifer Bryant of Texas City; brother Melvin Bryant; sisters, Ernestine Choate, Pat Killian, Myra Sivertsen, Sandy Fisher, Nancy Detorre, Marilyn Bryant, Teresa Bryant and Kathy Schanzer; and numerous other relatives.

Flowers may be delivered to the church between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday, December 17, and between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Saturday, December 18.

Kenneth Earl Benton

NACOGDOCHES — Kenneth Earl Benton, 57, passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2004, at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will begin Friday, December 17, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Sid Robert Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2004, at 1 p.m. at Sid Robert Chapel. Burial to follow in Pine Grove cemetery all in Nacogdoches.

He is survived by his father, Thomas Floyd Carter of Texas City; three daughters, Latonia Curl and Jacqueline Berry both of Waco and Leslie Benton -Abelard of Paris, France; one brother, John Carter of Torres, California, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Donald Szymanski

HOUSTON — Donald Szymanski, 34, devoted husband, father, and son, passed away on Friday, December 17, 2004, in Houston, Texas.

He was born on December 4, 1970, in Titusville, Florida to Raymond and Dolores Szymanski. He was proud to have served in the United States Army during Desert Storm and was a member of St. Luke’s The Evangelist Catholic Church.

Donald is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth, and their three children, Ashley, Haley, and Joshua. Also surviving Donald are his parents; three sisters, Sheryl Matteson, Elizabeth Coker, April Szymanski; three brothers, Christopher, Andrew, and Brian and numerous nieces and nephews, family members, and friends.

Donald was preceded in death by his Grandparents and brother, Raymond Szymanski.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2004, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Crowder Funeral Home, in Dickinson, Texas. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2004, at 1:00 p.m., at St. Luke’s The Evangelist Catholic Church, 11011 Hall Road, Houston, Texas. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet cemetery in Dickinson, Texas.

Audrey Inez Pulliam

Audrey Inez Pulliam was born April 23, 1926 in Amite, Louisiana to John N. Pulliam and Elizabeth Jenkins Pulliam and died December 24, 2004, in Texas City, Texas.

After graduating from Istruma High School, in Baton Rouge, she attended nursing school at Charity Hospital, in New Orleans. On April 9, 1946, she married Clyde Lee Browning, of Baton Rouge, following his return from active duty in Europe during WWII. Clyde and Audrey moved to Texas in 1948, establishing a permanent home in Texas City. Audrey’s sole focus was the care and nurturing of her family and service and support of her church, Grace United Methodist Church. Audrey was an active member of the church and past President of the United Methodist Women organization at Grace.

She is survived by three sons, Barry Browning, Houston; Terry Browning, Ann Arbor, Michigan and Randall Browning, Friendswood, Texas; two grandchildren, Megan Browning and Nathan Browning, Friendswood; four sisters, Levina Dake, Irma Watts and Johnnie Sullivan of Baton Rouge, Yvonnie Slaton of Walker, Louisiana; one brother, Reggie Pulliam of Zachary, Louisiana; one brother-in-law, Elmer Ray Browning of Santa Fe, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clyde and two brothers, Seaborn Pulliam and Huey Pulliam.

Her family would like to thank everyone at Hearthstone of Mainland, A-Med Community Hospice and the many doctors and nurses who helped care for her over the last several years.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at Forest Park East Funeral Home. Internment followed at Forest Park East cemetery.

Margarita Canales

Margarita Canales, 84, passed away Monday, December 27, 2004, at Danforth Gardens, in Texas City, Texas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 30, 2004, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Yoakum, Texas with Fr. Roger Hawes, as Celebrant. Burial will follow services Thursday at Guadalupe cemetery, in Hochheim, Texas. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at Buffington Funeral Home in Yoakum.

Mrs. Canales was born in Yoakum, Texas on December 18, 1920, however, for most of her life, she has been a longtime resident of Galveston Island. She retired from The University of Texas Medical Branch, in Galveston, after working for several years in Housekeeping. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her. Her memories will live on in the hearts of her many family members and friends, always.

Mrs. Canales is preceded in death by her husband, Feliciano Canales, Sr. She leaves behind many fond memories with her loving children, Ernest Sr. and Carolyn Canales of LeGrange, Texas, Mary Smith of San Diego, California, Emelda and Alvino Ramirez of Texas City, Texas, Eddie and Diana Canales also of Texas City, Texas and Feliciano, Jr. and Belinda Canales of Texas City, Texas. Sharing in her loss, also, are Mrs. Canales’ numerous loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters, Lupe Vasquez, Janie Vasquez, Beatrice Navaira, all of Victoria, Texas and Amelia Reyna of Westhoff, Texas; her four brothers, Fred Lopez and Jesse Lopez, both of La Marque, Texas, Joe Lopez of Victoria, Texas and Ray Lopez of Idabel, Oklahoma, many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, a host of other loving family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Mrs. Canales’ grandsons, Michael Smith, Jason Canales, Ernest Canales, Jr., John Canales, Rene Ramirez, Bryan Ramirez, Eddie Canales, Jr., Robert Canales and Aaron Canales.

In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Canales’ family is requesting that memorials in her memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2909 West Holcombe, Houston, Texas 77025

Orlando Divine, Jr.

He was lovingly known as 'Baby" by all who knew him and loved him. The Lord called him home December 20, 2004. 'Baby' is finally at peace and rest, something he hasn't known for many, many years. He was 'Uncle Baby' to his nieces and nephews who loved him beyond words. Many aunts, uncles and cousins are left with his fond memories, one sister Susan Divine Richard, who loves him dearly, a brother Sam E. Divine, a son Gary Divine and wife Terri, a devoted daughter in law, a special friend Helen, who was like a sister to him.

He was proceeded in death by his father, mother and older brother. After graduating from Texas City High School he entered into the U.S. Navy during the Viet Nam war and served his country proudly.

Mr. William Mac Dorland

DICKINSON — Mr. William Mac Dorland passed from this life Monday, December 27, 2004, in Galveston.

Born September 19, 1953, in Cadillac, Michigan, Mr. Dorland had been a resident of Dickinson for 20 years, previously of League City. He had been self-employed as a shrimper for 30 years and enjoyed traveling and fishing.

preceded in death by parents, William Alford and Bonnie Louise (Billett) Dorland, survivors include his wife, Carolyn Faye (Tabors) Dorland of Dickinson; sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Stephanie Dorland of New Caney, Billy and Sheri Dorland of Deer Park, Ben and Sara Dorland of Fort Polk, Louisiana, Robert and Debbie Snyder of Santa Fe; daughters and sons-in-law, Vicky and Steve Wilson of Santa Fe, Edie Dorland of Santa Fe; brothers and sisters-in-law, Steve and Sally Dorland of Tennessee, Gary and Phylis Dorland of Michigan; sisters and brothers-in-law, Connie and Larry Eling, Vicki and Mark Ruess, all of Michigan; 12 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2004, in the Parlor of Hayes Funeral Home with Pastor John Newton officiating.

Friends may call after 2:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, (409) 925-3501.

H. Maurice Little's life began as it ended, with humble beginning with Jesus Christ.

H. Maurice Little departed this earthly life to be with his Heavenly Father on December 22, 2004, after a short illness, at Methodist Hospital, Houston, Texas.

Visitation is Wednesday from 4-7 p.m., at Mt. Carmel MBC, Dickinson, Texas, December 29, and funeral service will honor H. Maurice's life Thursday, December 30, 2004, 11:00 a.m., at Mt. Carmel MBC, 2920 Hwy. 3, Dickinson, Texas, with Rev. Jonathan Taylot, Pastor. H. Maurice Little will be buried in Forest Park East cemetery, Webster, Texas.

Joseph J. Khaled Jr.

FORT WORTH — Joseph J. Khaled Jr., 72, passed away Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, in Greenwood Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Council 2813, Memorial Fund, Knights of Columbus, P.O. Box 331886, Fort Worth, Texas 76163.

Joseph was born July 17, 1932, in Galveston. He was a veteran of the Korean War and retired from General Services Administration as a computer specialist. Joseph was a past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus 2813 and was a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus, General Worth Assembly.

Joseph was preceded in death by his brother, Edward, and sister, Doris Lanie.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara J. Khaled; son, Jim Phillips and wife, Deanna; daughters, JoAnn Phillips, Cecilia Stenzler, Christine Khaled and Carolyn Lazar and husband, Jason; sisters, Catherine Khaled, Evelyn Stokley, Virginia Matar, Elaine Bettinger and Joyce Grady and nine grandchildren.
