Georgene (Holcomb) Terry

LA MARQUE - Our precious mother, Georgene (Holcomb) Terry entered into eternal life on Friday, November 21, 2003. Born on June 4, 1917, in Liberty Hill, Texas, to Martha and George Holcomb. She was a resident of Galveston and La Marque since 1945.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clifton Terry, one son, one grandson, four sisters and one brother.

She is survived by her daughter Cecilia (Terry) Stephenson and husband Ron of Onalaska; daughter Linda (Terry) Rogers and husband Larry of Katy; son Roger Terry and wife Charlene of Texas City; daughter Lana (Terry) Baker of Texas City, one brother, ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2003, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the James Crowder Funeral Home, La Marque. A graveside service will be on Sunday, November 23, 2003, at 3 p.m. at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas with Mr. Charles Goodnight officiating.

Shirley Ann Du Ree

SANTA FE – Mrs. Shirley Ann Du Ree, 75, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2003, at her home, in Santa Fe.

She was born August 8, 1928, in Nuevo Laredo, Texas, to Ann and Frank Huey, of Texas City. She was a Galveston County resident all her life, living in Santa Fe for the past 30 years. Mrs. Du Ree was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where she was also a member and treasurer of the Lydia Circle. Other memberships include, the local chapter of the AARP, chairman of the Senior Citizens Day at the Galveston Co. Fair and Rodeo and for many years was a volunteer and Mentor for the Reading Program, at Santa Fe Elementary.

Mrs. Du Ree is preceded in death by her parents, Frank Huey, mother, Ann Wilson and stepfather, Jack Wilson.

Left to cherish her memory is her devoted husband of 58 years, Robert Du Ree; daughter, JoAnn Gerald and husband, Glenn, of Santa Fe; son, John Du Ree and wife, Mary Lou, of Santa Fe; one granddaughter, Kelli Ann Hardcastle and husband, Lance, of Santa Fe; 5 grandsons, Mark Gerald and wife, Michelle, of Santa Fe, Robert Gerald, of Galveston, Matthew Gerald and wife, Jennifer, of Austin, Nick Du Ree, of Santa Fe, and Chris Du Ree, of Texas City; brother, Jimmy Frank Huey and wife, Laverne of Screven, Georgia; brother-in-law, Albert Du Ree and wife, Marilyn, of Independence, Missouri; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m., Monday at Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Hwy 6, (409) 925-3501.

Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 13217 FM 1764, Santa Fe, with Reverend Matthew Gerald and Reverend Noy Pruitt officiating. Interment will follow at Grace Memorial Park cemetery under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.

Casketbearers will be Robert Gerald, Lance Hardcastle, Jessie Covington, and Albert DuRee.

Those who wish may make memorials in the form of donations to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, P.O. Drawer C, Santa Fe, Texas 77510.

Mrs. Du Ree’s Family would like to thank the staff and nurses of A-Med Hospice for all their loving care. It was a great comfort to her family.

Lawrence Slade Click, Sr., of Hitchcock, Texas, born January 19, 1929, in San Antonio, Texas, passed away at his residence November 20, 2003.

He was a retired Home Builder. Mr. Lawrence was a Master Sargent in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, member of VFW Post 5400, in Hitchcock and of the Hitchcock Vol. Fire Dept.

Lawrence is preceded in death by is parents, Jack and Ester Click.

He survived by his loving wife, Virgina; his children, Gerald and Janis Mann, Dickinson Texas, Kenneth Click, Hitchcock, Texas, Donna and Danny Beard, Aurora, Colorado, Rocky Lawrence Slade and Karen Click, Jr., Santa Fe, Texas, Glen and Elizabeth Click, Santa Fe, Texas and Becky Click, Hitchcock, Texas; grandchildren, Jason, Jimmy, Debbie, Sherry and Kelly Mann, Stacey and Christopher Beard, Jamie and Kenneth Click, Rodney Slade Click, Kyle and Shelby Click, Ramsey Slade Click Velasquez; great-grandchildren, Bailey Rose Click and Faith Beard; brothers and sisters, Julian and Wylona Click, Virgina Schanzer, Joann and Harry Robinson, Harry and Erlene Click, William and Barbara Click, Taylor and Jamie Click and Betty Jane and A.J. Tuttoilmondo.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 23, 2003, from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m., at the James Crowder Funeral Home, in La Marque. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 24, 2003, at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Galveston Memorial Park, Hitchcock, Texas.

Joseph Arnold Banks

GALVESTON — Joseph Arnold Banks, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend, passed away on November 18, 2003, at the age of 78, ending a life of love, kindness, service, and generosity. He died at his home with his wife, his daughter, and a devoted son-in-law by his side.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, located on 14th and Broadway, with Father Frank Fabj, celebrant. Burial will take place at Mainland Memorial cemetery, in Hitchcock immediately following the funeral. Visitation will be held at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home, 1201 Tremont, Galveston, Texas on Tuesday, November 25, 2003, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A Marine Corps League presentation will be held at 5:00 p.m., a devotional will be held at 6:00 p.m., and a rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., with Deacon John Pistone officiating.

Joseph was born on October 31, 1925, in Galveston, Texas, to Laura Mae Banks. He was raised by his grandparents, David Shelton Banks Sr., and Carrie Peachey Banks. In the home of his grandparents, he was nurtured by his mother, five loving aunts, and an uncle, Laura Mae, Oberian, Mattie, Shelton Jr., Elvie, Ernestine, and Theodora.

He was baptized at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Roy Collins Sr., and Marguerite Collins standing as his god parents. He attended Holy Rosary School, later followed by East District School and then Central High School, where he graduated in 1943.

In 1943, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and fought for democracy in the Pacific theater during World War II. He returned to Galveston following his discharge. He was employed as a Letter Carrier with the U.S. Post Office and retired after thirty-two years of service. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Church, where he served as an usher, Cub Scout Master, member of the Men's Club, and member of the Knights of Columbus. As a Cub Scout Master he was responsible for sponsoring boys from Cedar Terrace and Palm Terrace to Camp Karankawa, and in later years he was a major force in the development and growth of the Marcus Joseph Netherly Memorial Scholarship Program. This program has been responsible for awarding thirty-three thousand dollars to African American students, assisting them in attending the college of their choice. Joseph Arnold Banks loved to read, and this scholarship program stands as a living legacy and tribute to the delight he always took in learning.

Joseph and his loving wife, Doris celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary this past January with numerous relatives and friends. Their devotion to one another was apparent as they renewed their wedding vows. Their marriage was a strong one, rooted in God, family, and service. His cheerful disposition and warm smile will be missed by his family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Mae Banks Jones; grandparents, David Shelton and Carrie Peachey Banks; brother, Henry Smith; sister, Mary Lou Jones; and grandson, Marcus Joseph Netherly.

He is survived by his devoted wife of fifty years, Doris Marie Banks, five children, Christopher Emanuel Banks (Elnora), Bernadette Theodora Banks Rogers (James), Monica LaSanta Banks Netherly (Jay), Gregory Frederick Banks and Basil Morgan Banks. Joseph leaves two brothers, Frederick R. Banks, of Los Angeles, California, and Carl Ellis Jones, of Houston, Texas; and one aunt, Mattie Banks Hollis.

Survivors also include seven grandchildren, Stephanie Banks Packer (Terrence), Akil Jamar Rogers, Christal Banks, Tanisha Banks, Laura Mae Banks, Robert Shelton Banks and Gabrielle Netherly; special cousins, Allen Foreman Jr., of Los Angeles, Donald Foreman, of Portland, Oregon and James Thomas; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Womack Johnson, Frankie Lee Banks, of Los Angeles, Joselyn Womack Mathews, Catherine Womack and Essie Womack; brother-in-law, James Womack Jr., of Denver Colorado; three great grandchildren, five god children, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Janie Ruth Branch passed away November 21, 2003, in Chesterfield, Virginia; born November 12, 1915, in Crockett, Texas, to Carl and Della Douglass.

She lived most of her life in Texas, in the Texas City, Dickinson and League City areas for over 60 years, just recently moving to Chesterfield, Virginia.

Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Earl. Survivors are her daughter, Marilyn B. Glover and her husband, Buddy, of Chesterfield, Virginia; granddaughters, Michelle Hulse, of Jackson, New Jersey and Diana Phillips, of Rochester, New York and 4 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 23, 2003, from 5-8 p.m., at Jack Rowe Funeral Home, in League City. A graveside service will be Monday, November 24, 2003, at 11 a.m., at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock.

James Carl Enz II, passed away November 20, 2003, in Texas City, Texas.

James was born August 10, 1985, in Galveston, Texas. James is Survived by his father, Jim Enz, and mother, Angie Mincher; three sisters, Jamie Enz, Janet Mincher, and Julie Seymour; and one brother, Jimmie Mincher.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 24, 2003, from 5 to 9 p.m., at Crowder Funeral Home, in Dickinson. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at Old Dickinson cemetery, in Dickinson, Texas with Reverend John Gilligan officiating..

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to help with their sons funeral expenses.
