Marcia Lewis

Funeral services for Marcia Lewis, 65, of Lubbock will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8th, at Milwaukee Ave. Church of Christ with Nate Fritz officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Mrs. Lewis passed away Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, in Lubbock. She was born Jan. 21, 1940, in Fletcher, OK.

She married Chuck Lewis, Sept. 12, 1959, in Plains, TX.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sheri Lewis.

Survivors include: her husband, Chuck; daughter, Robbie Lewis of Ft. Worth; son, Stan Lewis of Mt. Sterling, KY; two grandchildren, Calli Tuley and Carter Lewis; two great-grandchildren, Mandi and Wesley Tuley; and sister, Kaye Fitzhugh of Garland, TX.

The family will receive friends at Resthaven from 6 until 8 p.m., Monday.

Opal Joy Higdon

A funeral for Opal Joy Kennedy Higdon, 98, of Kingsland, formerly of Brownfield, will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005 at Brownfield Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Bob Reynolds officiating.

Interment will follow at the Fairview cemetery in Memphis, TX at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005.

Services are under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Mrs. Higdon died Nov. 5, 2005 at her daughter and son-in-law's home in Kingsland, TX.

Survivors include one daughter, Sarah Elizabeth and her husband, Weldon "Bart" Bartlett of Kingsland, TX; one son, Joseph Charles Higdon and his wife, Barbara of Clovis, NM; Grandchildren, Darrell Willingham of Carlsbad, NM, Frank Willingham of Kingsland, TX, Charles Willingham of Lubbock, Cyndra Rogotzke of San Angelo, TX, Wesley David Bartlett of Llano, TX, Gregory Higdon of Clovis, NM, Michael Higdon of San Antonio, TX, Barbara Bartlett of Kingsland, TX, Paula Fuller of Eastland, TX, Samantha McMullen of San Angelo, TX, Kathey Taylor of Breckenridge, TX, 24 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Hubert Edgar Cone, M. D.

Hubert E. Cone, M. D., 96, of Lubbock, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed into his eternal rest Friday, Nov. 4, 2005.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Reverends Johnny Williams and Elton Wyatt, members of Dr. Cone's Homebuilders Sunday School Class, will be officiating. Following the service, the family will greet friends in the foyer. Services are under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors.

Dr. Cone was born Oct. 20, 1909 in Yarrellton, Milam County, TX. He grew up on a cotton farm, attended Liberty School and graduated from Lubbock High School in 1927. He graduated from the University of Texas, earned his medical degree June 1, 1936, from the Baylor University College of Medicine, and interned at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX. He married Marie Catherine Berger Aug. 31, 1941, while practicing medicine in Silver City, NM. He served in WWII with the 63rd Medical Training Battalion, Company A at William Beaumont Hospital in El Paso, TX and practiced medicine in New Mexico and Texas for 53 years. He gave gladly and freely of his skills, money, time, energy, and assets to many, including Gila Wilderness Forest Service families, migrant workers and their families, Sick Children's Clinic, family, friends, church, pastors, missionaries, students, and immigrants.

His parents, Jesse Martin and Mary Lula, five brothers, two sisters, and one granddaughter preceded him in death. He is survived by Marie, his wife of 64 years; four sons, Jesse and wife, Julie of Forest Grove, OR, Bob and wife, Janey of Corpus Christi, TX, Howard and Linda of Georgetown, TX, Terry (twin) and wife, Pam of Fortson, GA; daughter, Mary (twin) and husband, Dale Lewis of Lubbock; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lula Peterson and Eunice Gibson of El Paso, TX.

His most frequently spoken words expressed the life he lived, "What can I do to help you?" and in keeping with this life habit, the family requests memorials be sent to a favorite charity that helps with medical, educational, or a Christian service.

Charles Edwin "Charlie" Booz

Charles Edwin "Charlie" Booz, 83 of Clyde, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005 at a local hospital. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Elmwood Memorial Chapel with Quenten Rhodes officiating under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Clyde. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Booz was born July 27, 1922 in Perrin, Texas to Thomas and Cora (Long) Booz. Charlie graduated from Perrin High School in 1940; receiving a basketball scholarship from Weatherford College where he was captain of the team in 1941 and 1942 Mr. Booz received both his Bachelor of Arts Degree and his Master's Degree from Texas Tech. Over the years he taught at Benjamin, Shallowater and Whiteface. Charlie worked for Encyclopedia Britannica, calling on educational institutions all over West Texas. With the help of his wife Opal, he won three national awards for being top salesman of the year in the United States. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife Opal, of Clyde; one son, Rick Booz of Abilene; three daughters, Charla Chapman of Jacksonville, Nancy Drake-Higley of Amarillo and Candy Thibodaux of Abilene; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Don Drake, three sisters and one brother.

Mary Joyce Arend

Mary Joyce Arend, 71, of Lubbock died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005 at her residence in Lubbock.

She was born on Oct. 29, 1934 in Haskell County, TX. She married Bennie Arend on Aug. 2, 1953 in Lovington, NM. Mary lived in Lovington for many years, worked at Sears and raised her daughters there. She lived in Snyder before moving to Lubbock. She liked to sew, fish and camp and was a member of the Merry Mixers Square Dancers in Lubbock. She especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bennie and her parents, Dan and Montie Lee Sweatman.

Survivors include her daughters, Ginger and husband, Todd Henry of Tahoka, Brenda Arend of Snyder and Skeeter and husband, Wes Shook of Snyder; sister, Sue and husband Johnie Johnson of Slaton; best and special friend, Ronnie Scruggs of Lubbock; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Arend's service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005 at Smith-Rogers Funeral Home Chapel in Lovington, NM. Randy Hamilton, Vista Care Chaplain of Lubbock will officiate. Burial will take place in Lovington cemetery in Lovington, NM.

Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 7, 2005 from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. until service time. Arrangements are by Smith-Rogers Funeral Home of Lovington, NM.

Ray A. Woodard

Graveside services for Ray Andrew Woodard, 81, of Ralls will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov.14, 2007, at the Ralls cemetery, with the Rev. Jim Daniel and Rev. Larry Carson officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.

Ray passed away Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, at Covenant Medical Center, in Lubbock. He was born July 5, 1926, in Garden Valley, to the late Jess Thomas and Avey Catherine (George) Woodard.

He moved to Crosby County in 1943 from Childress and was a member of the Baptist Church and a farmer. He served in the US Army in Germany during WWII.

Ray is preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include two brothers, Eugene of Ralls and Earl of Childress, and two sisters, Wanda Ruth Caddell of Ralls and Pearl Carpenter of Clovis, N.M.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Adams Funeral Home in Ralls.

Anna Jean True

Anna Jean True, 81, of Plainview passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, at her residence. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, at First United Methodist Church in Plainview, with Rev. Travis Bennett officiating and Dr. Max Browning assisting. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

Anna Jean was born on June 3, 1926, in Mt. Pleasant, and her family moved to Plainview when she was very young. She attended schools in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School in 1942, and then attended Lippert's Business College. She worked for the rationing board during WWII. She married S.M. True, Jr. on Feb. 17, 1946, in Plainview. She was a farmer's wife and a homemaker. She was devoted to her husband, traveling with him and serving as his biggest supporter and critic. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Harmony Sunday School class, Snyder Junior Home Demonstration Club, and served as the First Lady of Texas Farm Bureau for 11 years. She was awarded the Woman of the Year for the Texas Extension Service for 2007.

Anna Jean is survived by her husband, S.M. True, Jr. of Plainview; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Linda True of Lubbock; and two grandchildren, Blaine True of Lubbock and Larissa True of Lubbock.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lorenzo Roberts and Beuna Vista Roberts; and one brother, Billy Roberts.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors.

The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church Activity Center, 1001 W. 7th Street, Plainview, Texas, 79072.
