Boyd Dean Vick

Boyd Dean Vick, 101, of Lubbock, passed away Dec. 16, 2007, in Lubbock. He was born on July 15, 1906, in Stephens County, to Christopher Columbus Vick and Maude Todd. He attended high school at Parks High School, graduating in 1925. He then went to Texas Tech, joining as a member of the first class at the University. Boyd married Kathleen Reagan in 1928 in Lockney. Together, they had three children. They moved to Lubbock from Brownwood in 1996.

Boyd was a member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Good Sam Travel Club, and Meals on Wheels as a volunteer. He also supported the Ranching Heritage Center. He was an active member at his church, Coggin Avenue Baptist Church in Brownwood.

Boyd was preceded in death by his wife, who passed away in 2004. Those left to cherish his memory are one son, John Ronald Vick and wife Jeanne of Prescott, Ariz.; two daughters, Geraldine Foster and husband Marion of Houston and Joanne Cagle and husband Bill of Lubbock; one brother, Gordon Wayne Vick of Plano; one sister, Ila Belle Burk of Rotan; seven grandchildren, Reagan Campbell, John Cagle, Rusty Cagle, Evelyn Jannssen, Paul Foster, Holly Carmichael, and Noel Culbertson; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, at Hart cemetery in Breckenridge, with Reverend Kenneth Staton officiating. Memorials may be made to the Ranching Heritage Center at 3121 Fourth Street, Box 43200, Lubbock, TX 79409.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to the MICU staff at UMC and Dr. Shaffer and Dr. Pahbru for their care of Mr. Vick.

Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Lubbock.

Rebecca June Rudd

Rebecca June Rudd, age 60, passed away Dec. 16, 2007, in Fort Worth. Becky was born Sept. 23, 1947, in Tahoka, to Foy and Marjorie Swinson. She is survived by her husband, Don B. Rudd and one son, Clinton Foy Rudd and his wife April. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Kayla and Jonathon Rudd and by a sister, Muriel Smith and a brother, Russell Swinson.

A visitation was held Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, from 7-9 p.m., at Flower Mound Family Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, at 2 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Euless. Burial will follow at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Becky's name to the American Cancer Society.

Mary Dean McDowell

Mary Dean McDowell, 66, of Lubbock passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, at UMC. She was born Oct. 16, 1941. She leaves to cherish her memory, three sons, Gary Wayne Ransom (Lola), Walter Ray Ransom (Gloria), and Ronald Glenn Ransom (Marcy); two daughters, Charlotte Renee Green (John), and Verlencia (Tina) Ransom Quigley (Cedrick); one brother, John L. Robinson; two sisters-in-law, Josephine Robinson and Belzora Armstead; fifteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at Full Armor Ministries at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, burial will be at City of Lubbock cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.

Family will receive friends today from 2 - 7 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary.

Charlotte Elaine Broome Loper

Charlotte Elaine Broome Loper, 87, of Lubbock died Sunday at the Garrison House. Entombment services will be 4 p.m. today at the Resthaven Mausoleum Chapel under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Loper was born Jan. 25, 1920, in Tell, to Charles and Vada (Spinks) Green. She was a registered nurse, retiring from Highland Hospital in 1986. She married John Wesley Broome March 8, 1942, in Big Spring. He preceded her in death July 12, 1967. She later married Ben Loper. He also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her sons, Pete Broome and wife Susan and Ed Broome and wife Jan, all of Lubbock; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Three brothers and three sisters also preceded her in death.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, 6603 S. Quaker, Ste. E, Lubbock, TX 79413.

Karen Rhyne Hays

Karen Rhyne Hays, 56, of Lubbock passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2007. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Resthaven Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service at Highland Baptist Church at 3 p.m.

She was born to Bob and Minnie Rhyne in Littlefield Dec. 18, 1950. She lived in Lubbock since 1952. Karen was a 1969 graduate of Monterey High School and attended Texas Tech prior to receiving her Bachelor of Science in Health Professions from Southwest Texas State. She was a graduate of the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston School of Dental Hygiene.

She was a dental hygienist and a licensed realtor. She served as an officer in the Lubbock/Crosby/Garza County Medical Auxiliary. She was a member of P.E.O and Chapter DP and enjoyed volunteering for Meals On Wheels. In addition to her passion for her family and professions, Karen enjoyed a rich life of travel, entertaining her friends and family and her volunteer activities. She was a long-time member of Highland Baptist Church.

Karen is survived by her husband, Dr. John Hays; son, Heath Harkins; daughter, Julie Cunningham and husband Blair; mother, Minnie Rhyne; brother, Dr. Craig Rhyne and wife Jo; step-son, Phillip Hays and wife Tricia; step-daughters, Laurie Hays-Coffman and husband Stan, Char Rantz and husband John, and Paula Ammons and husband Greg; two nephews; nine step-grandchildren; and many dear friends and family members.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Karen's memory to Lubbock Meals On Wheels.

Hughes H. Fish

Hughes H. Fish, 88, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, in Lubbock. Services were 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at Womack-Manard Funeral Home Chapel in Crowell, with Bill Morman and Riley Turner of Lubbock officiating. Burial followed at Crowell cemetery in Crowell under the direction of Womack-Manard Funeral Home in Crowell.

He was born Oct. 9, 1919, in Foard County, son of the late Allen Hiatt Fish and Mattie Klepper Fish . He married Ola Faye Carpenter May 29, 1942, in Los Angeles, Calif.

He was a resident of Lubbock and a former resident of Foard County and Denver, Colo. He was a graduate of Crowell High School and received his B.S. Degree in Horticulture from Texas Tech University. He was a member of the Sunset Church of Christ of Lubbock. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired as office manager for the National Cash Register Company, after 37 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Ola Faye Fish of Lubbock; three daughters, Olaine Petty of Portland, Texas, Jane Baker of Lubbock, and Nancy Glasmann of Westminister, Colo.; one son, Allen Fish of West Bloomfield, Mich.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Anita Denton, and one brother, John Allen Fish.

Dez'Mariah Cerda

Dez'Mariah Leann Cerda was born Sept. 13, 2007, in Lubbock, to Rudy Cerda, Jr. and Savana Pena. She went to be with Jesus on Dec. 15. Dez'Mariah touched many lives in the short time she was here. She was a precious little girl who was sent here to love and to be loved by her family and friends. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all the staff at University Medical Center, especially those in the NICU unit.

A rosary and prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. today, at Resthaven Funeral Home, in the Abbey Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Father Heriberto Mercado will be the officiant. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.

She will be welcomed in heaven by her family that has preceded her, and will be cherished and remembered by those still here.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Dez'Mariah Leann Cerda Memorial Fund, 1203 37th St., Lubbock, TX 79412.

Kathleen Brunson

Graveside services for Kathleen Brunson will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, in the City of Lubbock cemetery, with the Rev. Sam Beebe officiating. She passed away on Dec. 17, 2007.

Kathleen Eugenia was born Dec. 22, 1926, in Dallas, to Claude Eugene and Leoti (Burns) Martin. At the age of 2, her family moved to Lubbock. Kathleen graduated from Lubbock High School in 1945 and received her Master of Science from Texas Technological College in 1955. In 1956, Kathleen married G.W. Brunson in Lubbock. For over thirty years, she taught Biology at Lubbock High. Since retirement, she enjoyed going to Alto, N.M.

Survivors include her husband, G.W. Brunson, and seven cousins, including one special cousin who was her caregiver, Sonja Gardner.

The family suggests memorials to the charity of your choice.

Dallas Ray Bunting

Services for Dallas Ray Bunting, 77, of Lubbock will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, in Sanders Memorial Chapel, with Bruce Thornton officiating. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock cemetery.

He passed away on Dec. 17, 2007.

Dallas Ray Bunting was born Feb. 13, 1930, in Herrin, Ill. He graduated from Johnson City High School in 1948 and he attended the University of Southern Illinois. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1954.

Dallas married Jacqueline Uhrich on June 30, 1951. He has been a resident of Lubbock since 1963. In 1993, he retired from Snook and Aderton. He was a lifetime member of the Elk's Lodge.

Dallas enjoyed fishing, playing golf and especially visiting with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years; his children, Vickie Bunting, Diane and husband Scott Neill and Scott Bunting, all of Lubbock; three grandchildren, Taylor and wife Misti Neill, Adam Neill and Hannah Neill; brothers, Danny and Robert Bunting of Illinois.

The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. today at Sanders Funeral Home.
