Patsy Barret

(Special) Graveside services for Patsy Barret, 79, of Shallowater will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Terry County Memorial cemetery in Brownfield with the Rev. Robert Fortney, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Burial will be under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

She died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, in Lubbock.

She was born June 14, 1919, in Sherman. She married Charles Barret on Dec. 12, 1939, in Hobbs, N.M. She moved with her parents to Terry County in 1925. She graduated from Union High School in Terry County. She moved to Shallowater in 1959. She was a beauty operator for 20 years, retiring in 1962.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Juana Jay Bridges and Sharon Barret, both of Lubbock; two grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.

Neville Dortch

SNYDER - Neville Becham Dortch, 74, of Snyder died Thursday, March 4, 1999, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital.

Cremation will be under direction of Wright Colonial Funeral Home.

Dortch was born July 26, 1924, in Norphlett, Ark. He married Dorothy Mills on Oct. 23, 1947, in Henderson, Ky. He was an oil field worker, and he served in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Barry of San Antonio, A.B. of Levelland and Blaine of Snyder; seven grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.

Lowell Ray

PLAINVIEW - Services for Lowell L. Ray, 75, of Hale Center will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Wood-Dunning Colonial Chapel with Rick Harper of Main Street Church of Christ in Olton officiating.

Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park under direction of Wood-Dunning Funeral Home.

He died Saturday, March 6, 1999, at Covenant Hospital of Plainview.

He was born Jan. 1, 1924, in Jud. He attended schools in Odessa and joined the Army Air Corps in 1941 and served three years. He moved to the Mayfield Community in 1947 and began farming. He married Jaueline P. Geason on Feb. 21, 1949, in Plainview. He retired from farming in 1990. He attended the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Theresa Summerlin of Albuquerque, N.M.; four sons, John Ray and Lennie Ray of Hale Center, Dennis Ray of Gunter and Jimmy Ray of Little Elm; two brothers, Kenneth Ray of Hale Center and Gerald Ray of Claude; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Wyma Swain

DIMMITT (Special) Services for Wyma Jean Swain, 61, of Dimmitt will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rose Chapel of Gililland-Watson with the Rev. W.L. Scott, pastor at Abundant Life Family Church in Borger, officiating.

Burial will be in Dimmitt under direction of Gililland-Watson Funeral Home.

She died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Baptist/St. Anthony Hospital in Amarillo.

She was born Sept. 12, 1937, in Henderson. She married Eddie Swain, Aug. 8, 1953, in Clovis, N.M. They moved to Dimmitt in 1995 from Fritch. She was a member of Abundant Life Family Church in Dimmitt.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Eddie Swain Jr. and Fred Douglas Swain, both of Dimmitt, Garry Swain of Fritch and Edward Swain of Borger; two daughters, Joyce Williams and Billie Starling, both of Dimmitt; four brothers, James Benton of Vernon, Kenneth Benton of Crowell, and Curtis Benton and Obie Benton, both of Wichita Falls; a sister, Sandra Benton of Wichita Falls; 16 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

John Torbit

HEREFORD - Services for John W. Torbit, 91, of Hereford will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Randy Dickson, branch president, officiating.

Burial will be in West Park cemetery under direction of Gililland-Watson Funeral Home.

Torbit died Thursday, March 4, 1999, in Tulia Care Center.

He was born April 11, 1907, in Hidalgo, Ill. He married Guin Tackett on May 18, 1946, in Raton, N.M. She died March 24, 1978. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include four sons, Gerald of Pueblo, Colo., John Arthur of Wyoming, Bill of Arizona and Pat of Tulia; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Tres Treadwell

Services for Tres Treadwell, 23, of Lubbock will be at 4 p.m. Monday in W.W. Rix Chapel. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Albuquerque, under direction of Rix Funeral Directors.

He was a Lubbock native, a graduate of Lubbock High School and an Episcopalian. He was a senior engineering student at Texas Tech.

Survivors include his mother, Jean Smith of San Antonio; his father, L.D. Treadwell of Santa Fe, N.M.; a sister, Leslee Browning of North Stonington, Conn.; a grandfather, L.D. Treadwell of Albuquerque; and a grandmother, Ruby Armstrong of Lubbock.

Memorials are suggested to CONTACT Lubbock Inc., Box 6477, Lubbock 79493 or to Ronald McDonald House, 1212 Indiana Ave., Lubbock 79415.

Ethel Bishop

Services for Ethel Bishop, 94, of Lubbock will be at 4 p.m. today at W.W. Rix Chapel with the Rev. Keith Wiseman officiating.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel in San Angelo with Rev. Grossie Mohler officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors.

She died Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at Heritage Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Oct. 23, 1904, in Bell County. She married John L. Bishop on Nov. 27, 1924 in Killeen. He died Dec. 26, 1983.

She graduated from Killeen High School, attended Baylor University, and earned her bachelor's degree from North Texas State University and her master's degree from Texas Tech.

She moved to San Angelo in 1941 and later moved to Lubbock in 1998. She taught reading at Stephen F. Austin Junior High School, Edison Junior High School, Washington Junior High School, and San Angelo High School in San Angelo. She also taught school in Killeen and Ozona.

She was a 50-year member of First United Methodist Church of San Angelo. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher's Association, and a matron, and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. A son, Larry Bishop, died in April 1964.

Survivors include a sister, Gladys Snodgrass of Lubbock.

The family suggests memorials to West Texas Boys Ranch, 36 West Beauregard, San Angelo 79601, the First United Methodist Church, 37 East Beauregard, San Angelo 79601, or First United Methodist Church, 1414 Broadway, Lubbock 79401.

James Steele

TYLER - Services for James Jefferson Steele, 90, of Tyler will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Broadway Church of Christ with Randy Daw officiating.

Burial will be in Cathedral of the Pines cemetery under direction of Burks-Walker-Tippit Funeral Home.

Steele died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, in a Rusk hospital.

He was born April 9, 1908, in Tell. He married Ellie Elizabeth Evans on Jan. 8, 1928, in Silverton. They were former residents of Lubbock, Midland and Sweetwater. He worked in the life insurance business. He retired in 1988. He was a crossing guard at an elementary school, and he worked part-time at the Rice Road Brookshire's Grocery Store.

Survivors include his wife; a brother, J.R. of Silverton; two sisters, Lillie Mercer of Canyon and Fannie Frances of Plainview; two daughters, Jerry Cannon of Tyler and Lou Ann Smith of Lubbock; four sons, Dwain of Tyler, Jim of Weatherford, Vic of San Angelo and Ric of Tyler; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Jim Bradley

COLDSPRINGS (Special) Services for Jim Bradley, 65, of Coldsprings will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Huntsville Funeral Home Chapel with Reagan Cooksey officiating.

Burial will be in Highland cemetery in Sparta, Tenn., at 2 p.m. Sunday under direction of Huntsville Funeral Home.

He died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Huntsville Memorial Hospital.

He was born Dec. 14, 1933, in Sparta. He was a member of various pharmacy associations. He was a member of KAPPA PSI and an honorary member of Lubbock Area Society Health System Pharmacists. He graduated from the University of Texas. He worked for Eli Lilley as a registered pharmacist, retiring in 1994.

He married Pat Bradley on June 27, 1963. They moved to Lubbock in September 1968 and moved to Coldsprings after retiring. He was a member of Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Steven Bradley of Albuquerque, N.M.; four daughters, Vicki Walkins of Kansas City, Mo., Sherry McCormick of Magnolia, Pam Foster of San Antonio and Julie Bradley of Houston; a brother, Donald H. Bradley of Sparta; a sister, Joyce McComb of Jonesborough, Tenn.; and nine grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today.

The family suggest memorials to American Heart Association or favorite charity in memory of Jim Bradley, a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.

Mark Hood

Memorial services for Mark Womble Hood, 47, of Lubbock will be at 3 p.m. Monday in the First Christian Church with the Rev. Michael Passmore, pastor, officiating.

Private graveside services will be in the City of Lubbock cemetery under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.

He died Friday, March 5, 1999, in the Covenant Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 4, 1951, in Santa Fe, N.M. He was a 1970 graduate of Amarillo Tascosa High School and attended Texas Tech. While at Tech he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He married Terry Linn on May 12, 1973, in Lubbock. He previously owned and operated Caprock Memorials. At the time of his death, he was a partner in Daysmen Financial as an insurance agent. He was a member of the President's Club of National Travelers Life Insurance Co.

He was a member of the Lubbock Life Underwriters Association. He was a member of the First Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and a teacher of the Senior High Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the New Visions Sunday School Class as well as the Christian Men's Fellowship. He was a member and past officer of the Coronado High School boy's basketball booster club and a member of the football booster club.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Braden Hood and Carson Hood, both of Lubbock; his parents, Jack and Dorothy Hood of Amarillo; three sisters, Becky Guess, Cynthia Dodgen and Molly Davis, all of Amarillo.

The family suggests memorials to the First Christian Church or to the American Cancer Society.

Jeffie Talley

FRIONA - Services for Jeffie Talley, 55, of Friona will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Sixth Street Church of Christ with D.L. Harguess of Friona, Tim Talley of Mombasa, Kenya, and Sonny Banning of Wichita, Kan., officiating.

Burial will be in Friona cemetery under direction of Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home.

She died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at her residence.

She was born July 28, 1943, in Carlsbad, N.M. She married Leon Talley on Dec. 29, 1963, in Carlsbad, N.M. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She moved to Friona from Anchorage, Alaska, in 1983. She was a member of TSTA and NEA. She was a junior high English teacher with the Friona Independent School District. She received a bachelor's degree from New Mexico State University and a master's degree from Kansas State University.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Tracey of Norman, Okla., Troy of Lubbock and Terron of Oklahoma City; her father, Harley Davis of Friona; a brother, Jimmy Davis of Carlsbad, N.M.; a sister, Linda Blair of Anchorage, Alaska; and four grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Tim Talley Mission Fund, Sixth Street Church of Christ, 502 West Sixth St., Friona 79035.
