Ronald L. Eudy

Ronald L. Eudy, age 71, of Austin, died Sunday, March 23, 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Mozelle Eudy, of Turkey, Texas.

Ronald, known by many as Ronnie or Ron, was born Dec. 7, 1936 in Turkey. He attended Turkey High School where he excelled in several sports and graduated in 1955. He married the love of his life, Kay, on June 23, 1956 and moved to Dallas to train to become a funeral director. He attended the Dallas Institute-Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science and graduated as the salutatorian of his class in 1957. After graduation Ronnie and Kay returned to their hometown of Turkey.

Ronnie was an owner of Eudy-Seale Funeral Homes in Turkey and Matador. He was also engaged in farming in the Turkey area for approximately 27 years. In 1984 he moved to DeSoto and served as the manager of West Funeral Home. Wanting to be closer to their grandchildren led Ronnie and Kay to Austin in 1988. Ronnie was employed by and served as a manager for the Cook-Walden Funeral Homes and Rockwood Amey Funeral Home in the Austin area until he retired in 2002.

Ronnie was always very active in his community. He served as a school board member for the Valley I.S.D. for nine years, including six years as President, and served on the Farmers Home Administration County Board and the Hall County A.S.C.S. Board. He was a 32? Mason and a member of the Quitaque Masonic Lodge #1248 AF&AM;, the Scottish Rite Bodies, and the Khiva Temple Shrine. While living in DeSoto, Ronnie served on the Board of Directors of the Dallas County Funeral Directors Association and was a member of the DeSoto Rotary Club. In Austin he was a member of the Austin Rotary Club and spent many volunteer hours instructing and counseling hospice care providers. Ronnie, along with Kay, was a member of Westover Hills Church of Christ in Austin.

Ronnie was well-liked and respected by all those who knew him. He touched many people in many different ways and in many different walks of life. His greatest pride and joy was always his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan and even until late in life enjoyed playing tennis, water skiing, and playing basketball with his grandchildren.

Ronnie is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kay Eudy, of Austin; son, Ron Eudy and wife Kim of Austin; daughter, Angela Browder and husband, Mark, of Austin; grandchildren, Marshall Eudy, Gracie Eudy, Parker Eudy, Gunner Linhart, Brodee Browder, and Stormee Browder, all of Austin; and many other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar, Austin, Texas, and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Myers-Chancellor Funeral Home in Turkey, Texas.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2008, at First United Methodist Church in Turkey, Texas. Interment will follow at the Dreamland cemetery in Turkey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in honor of Ronnie may be made to Special Olympics Texas, Area 13, 7715 Chevy Chase Drive, Austin, Texas 78752, (512) 835-9873.

Raymond Vargas Jr.

Raymond Vargas Jr., 45, of El Paso died on March 22, 2008 in Presidio County.

Raymond was born on Oct. 13, 1962, in Lamesa, to Raymond and Alicia Vargas. He was one of six children. Raymond graduated from Lamesa High School in 1981 and then received his Associate's Degree from Midland College. He attended UTPB and the University of Houston and received a Bachelor's degree in Economics. Raymond married Yolanda Martinez on June 22, 1985 in Alpine and they had two beautiful daughters, whom he was very proud of. Raymond devoted all of his extra time to his wife and to his daughters' activities which included 4-H, softball, livestock shows, camping and everything they could all enjoy.

Raymond spent the last 12 years in El Paso where he was a Branch Manager for Chase Bank and was a former President of Capitol Savings Bank. He was currently working as a Commercial Loan Broker.

He was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church in El Paso for 10 years.

Survivors include his wife, Yolanda Vargas of El Paso; two daughters, Hilari and Rachel Vargas of El Paso; parents, Raymond and Alicia Vargas of Lamesa; three sisters, Teresa Rodriquez and husband Ronnie of Lamesa, Lisa Gonzales and husband Albert of Lamesa, and Irma Ramirez and husband Robert of Lamesa; two brothers, Freddie and wife Alicia of Lamesa, and Anthony and wife Betty of Lamesa; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins who all loved him and will miss him forever.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Reyes Rodriquez and Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Vargas.

Services will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at 2 p.m., at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Rudi Crasta officiating. Rosary will be said Monday at 7 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Lamesa cemetery under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.

Pearl Mize

Services for Willie Pearl Mize, 92, of Crosbyton will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008, in the Crosbyton First Baptist Church, with Terry Ellison officiating. Burial will follow in the Crosbyton cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton. Pearl passed away Saturday, March 22, 2008, at the Crosbyton Nursing Home.

She was born Jan. 23, 1916, in Palo Pinto County, to James Walter and Winnie Leora (Bearden) Layton. On March 2, 1935, she married Eldred Lee Mize in Ralls. He preceded her in death June 12, 1995.

A homemaker, Pearl was a member of the Crosbyton First Baptist Church, the Crosbyton Garden Club, Quilting Club and Ladies Auxiliary at the Crosbyton Clinic Hospital. For many years she was the contact person in Crosbyton for the American Heart Association. A collector of antiques for many years, she owned Pearl's Antiques in Crosbyton. A graduate of Eastland High School, Pearl moved to Crosbyton in 1923 in a covered wagon from Palo Pinto County.

Pearl is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, J. W. Layton, Jr.; and two sisters, Dora Lee Ellison and Anna Lee Layton.

Survivors include her three sons, Eddie Mize of Crosbyton, Jackie Mize of Lubbock and Sterling Mize of Crosbyton; two brothers, J. E. Layton of Enochs and Harold Layton of Seminole; four grandchildren, Kelly Mize, Misha Mize, Leslie Mize and Jay Mize; and three great-grandchildren, Talitha Mize, Justus Davis and Jenson Davis.

The family suggests memorials to the Children's Home of Lubbock, P. O. Box 2824, Lubbock, Texas 79408.

Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at Adams Funeral Home in Crosbyton.

Mary Helen Lindsey Heath

Mary Helen Lindsey Heath, 86, of San Angelo passed away Sunday, March 23, 2008, in Shannon Medical Center.

The family will receive friends at Johnson's Funeral Home Tuesday from 5:30-7 p.m. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Mar. 26, at Community Hills Christian Church, with Rev. Oneal Westbrook officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Mary Helen was born Dec. 19, 1921, in Memphis, Texas, to Horace Henry and Hucie (Morrow) Lindsey.

Music was what brought her and Norman Hudson Heath, Jr. together in the small town of Memphis, Texas. She, being a gifted pianist and organist, and Norman, a former cornet player in the Texas Tech band and then a band director in several cities made beautiful music together in many ways. They married on June 20, 1943 in Memphis, Texas and then moved to Lubbock. She was a retired office assistant for Howe bookkeeping and Tax Service in Lubbock for 20 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lubbock, played piano for her Sunday school class, and worked with Meals on Wheels of Lubbock for 15 years. After 60 wonderful years in Lubbock, Mary Helen and Norman decided to move to San Angelo to be closer to family in March 2003. She has been a member of Community Hills Christian Church since that time.

They would have been married 65 years in June of this year.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert Lindsey and Eugene Lindsey.

Survivors include her loving husband, Norman of San Angelo; daughters, Marilyn Shelton and husband Buddy of North Richland Hills and Barbara Nevins and husband James R. of San Angelo; sister, Betty McBee of Lubbock; one grandson, Aaron Shelton of Addison; two granddaughters, Shelli Stone of Argyle and Lindsey Wiemers of Sonora; and two great grandchildren, Morgan and Andrew Stone.

Kevin Wade Self

Kevin Wade Self passed away at the young age of 43 on March 13, 2008, at University Medical Center. Kevin was a loving and generous man who fostered and adopted several teenage boys along with his wife, Sammye. He was also a Sergeant at Arms for the STAR Touring and Riding Association.

Kevin is survived by his wife of 24 years, Sammye Self; seven sons, Mike, Evan, Frankie, Brandon, Brian, Dennis, and Robert, ages ranging from 21 to 14; parents, Jimmy Cark and Delores Self of Lubbock; sister, Karla Haddock of Houston; grandfather, F.L. Stephenson of Lubbock; and granddaughter, Maricella Lelena.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, from 2 until 3 p.m., at Canyon Del Oro Baptist Church, 9200 N. Oracle Rd. Arrangements are entrusted to Adair Funeral Homes-Avalon Chapel.

Felix Ramirez

Felix Ramirez of New Deal departed this life on March 22, 2008 at the age of 75 years. He was born on May 30, 1932, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Enselmo and Hreanna Ramirez. He married Frances Rosas in Post in 1954. He was a farmer by occupation, and moved from Abernathy to New Deal in 1996.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, on Jan. 19, 1983. Those left to cherish his memory are three daughters, Mary Helen Ramirez, Sylvia Ramirez, and Norma Jean Ramirez, all of Houston; six sons, Freddy Ramirez of Wolfforth, Eddie Ramirez of New Deal, Ronnie Ramirez of Lubbock, Phil Ramirez of Ralls, Robbie Ramirez of Washington, and Felix Ramirez, Jr. of Houston; one step-son, David Perez of Lubbock; three brothers, Gilbert Ramirez, Paul Ramirez, and Polonio Ramirez, all of Lubbock; two sisters, Gracie Saldovar of Lubbock and Mary Ortega of New Deal; 25 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren.

Prayer Services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at White Memorial Chapel in Lubbock. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2008 at White Memorial Chapel in Lubbock. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial cemetery in Woodrow.

Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Lubbock.

Eloise Maynard

Mrs. Eloise Maynard, beloved wife, aunt and sister went to meet her Lord and Savior on March 22, 2008.

Eloise was born in Throckmorton, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Tobe Foster, March 20, 1917. Eloise married Jesse S. Maynard on Dec. 23, 1949, in Clovis, N.M. They were residents of Lubbock for over 60 years. Eloise retired from the Lubbock Production Credit Association as Supervisory Bookkeeper after 32 years in 1977. Eloise was the most devoted wife and lifelong love of Jesse, caring sister, and wonderful aunt.

Eloise is survived by Jesse Maynard; sisters, Paula Adkins and Mattie Lee Tims; seven nieces and nephews, and numerous grandnieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 25th at Rix Funeral Directors, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Temple Baptist Church 5413 38th St. at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 26th. Internment will follow at the City of Lubbock cemetery on E. 31st and MLK Boulevard.

De'Ona Nicole Johnson

De'Ona Nicole Johnson, 4 months old, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2008. She was born Nov. 17, 2007, to Kelvin Johnson and Ashley Mack. She leaves to cherish her memory her father, Kelvin; her mother, Ashley; her four sisters, Hailey, Kiara, Nicole, and Tramaya; five brothers, Malachi, Tre, Zyguis, Kevondre and Kemarion; her grandparents, Reggie and Dollie Mack and Terry Johnson; great-grandparents, Bobby and Eva Mack and Rachel Johnson; and a host of aunts, uncles, and other relatives.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Griffin Mortuary. Burial will follow at City of Lubbock cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.
