Larry Max Herschberger

Larry Max Herschberger began the journey of eternal life on March 31, 2008. Because of his strong, quiet faith in Jesus Christ and the world to come, he knew what mattered most in this life. Accordingly, he was an unpretentious man of simple needs and deep devotion. Larry loved his wife, Shari Lyn Kimbrough, whom he married on June 3, 1958. He imparted their love to his five daughters: Lexy, Jenna, Sharmon, Sharon, and LuNell (the Herschy Kisses), who in turn passed this love on to their five husbands (the Herschy Hugs) and Larry's six grandchildren. He delighted in riding around town with the kids and grandkids on his motorcycle until curtailed by his age and their growing sophistication. "Let's go for a ride, " he would joke when they were kindergartners, "We'll get a tattoo."

Larry was born June 6, 1935, in Enid, Okla., to Max C. Herschberger and Nell Fortune Herschberger. He is survived by his sister, Lexy Edelen, of Myrtle Beach.

Larry lived a life of service. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army, worked for the Boy Scouts of America, and was honored as the 1982 Volunteer of the Year by the Lubbock County American Red Cross for his service as a paramedic. (He named his van the Calamity Can.)

Most importantly, Larry spent his life in service to children and adults with multiple disabilities: he coached them in rehabilitation, physical fitness, and job skills. For this he received the 2001 President's Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Diana was a great daughter, sister and mom but to Brittley, Kristin and Austin she was Gammy, the greatest there ever was. There was no greater friend than Diana. She was loyal to a fault. Feisty, spirited and fun loving, she was not without an opinion and she didn't mind letting you know hers. A generous heart and spirit which made her the best friend you could ever have. Her love for people was only encompassed by her love for the Lord Jesus Christ.

The last words to her Mom were, ?Mom, I just can't wait to see Jesus.? She was given her desire the morning of Friday, April 4, 2008 when the gates of heaven opened and she was ushered into the presence of the One she so desired to see. What this world had robbed her of in her physical body was restored in a moment when she graduated form this inferior reality into that superior reality of the fully manifested Kingdom of God and into the arms of Jesus Christ her Lord.

Diana, we will miss you for a time, however we will see you again some day. When you see him, tell Dad we love him too.
