Winnie Earlene Farmer

A celebration of the beautiful life of Winnie Earlene Farmer, 87, of Lubbock will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008, in Sanders Memorial Chapel, with Reverend Bill Campbell officiating. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Woodrow.She went to be with her Lord on May 5, 2008.

Winnie was born April 29, 1921, in Cisco, to Horace and Alice Byrd.

She married Dewey Farmer on Nov. 19, 1938. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and waitress. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a daughter, Nancy Ione Wilcox.

She leaves behind her loving family, including her daughter, Frances Baker; grandchildren, Diana Daniels, Angela Redden, Billy Wilcox and Jimmy Wilcox; eight great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Bill Gary Wolfe

Bill Gary Wolfe, 59, of Lubbock, passed away May 7, 2008. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, in the Sanctuary of Christian Life Assembly of God. Pastor John Murdock will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 9, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Bill was born July 28, 1948, in Waco, to parents Mary Ann and Albert Wolfe. He grew up in China Spring, Texas and graduated from Baylor University. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and had worked as an agent for State Farm for over 25 years. Bill was also a longtime member of the South Plains Lion's Club. Bill and Linda wed on Nov. 26, 1986.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Wolfe, and his mother, Mary Ann Sikes.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Wolfe of Lubbock; children, Tabb Forbes and wife Carol, Lindell Forbes and wife Rachel, Hyatt Rollins and husband Jacob, Ryan Forbes and wife Angela, and Matt Wolfe and wife Shelli; and his grandchildren, Dylan, Thomas, Laura, MacKenzie, and Nathan Forbes, and Reese Wolfe, all of whom he loved very much.

Leonard Norman

Celebration of life services for Leonard Norman, 63, of Lubbock, will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel, with Jonanna Ross officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Leonard passed from this life on Saturday, May 3, 2008.

The family will receive friends at the Resthaven Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 6, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Leonard was born Feb. 14, 1945, in Cotton County, Okla., to Denver and Roxie Norman, the youngest of five children. He graduated from Hobbs High School in 1963 and attended Odessa College and College of the Southwest majoring in business. Leonard married Linda Dunkel on May 27, 1966 in Houston. Leonard served in the New Mexico Army National Guard from 1966 until 1973. Leonard was in the irrigation business in Nebraska before returning to Lubbock to begin a long career with Southland Corporation. He later was area supervisor for SCS in Big Spring. Before retirement he returned to Lubbock to open and manage a complex for RGTS. Leonard enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Leonard is survived by his wife of over forty years; daughter, Stacey Norman of Lubbock; son, Spencer Norman and wife Angela of Lubbock; and grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kelly, Jamie, Zoe and Haylee. His faithful four-legged companion, Champ, also survives him. Other family members include his sister, Wanda Ille (Billy) of Temple, Okla.; brother, Jimmy Norman (Lee Ann) of Chaparral, N.M.; sister, Joy Bates (Bill) of Temple, Okla.; and sister-in-law, Sherry Joe Norman of Hobbs, N.M. Leonard was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Lisa Fisher (2006); his parents; a brother, Joe Dan Norman; and a niece, Sherrill Ann Norman.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Holly Stewart for many years of compassionate care.

J. R. Brown

J. R. Brown, 86, of Dimmitt passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008, in Amarillo. Celebration of life services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at First United Methodist Church of Dimmitt, with Rev. Derrel Evins and Rev. Clint Young officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt.

J.R. Brown was born on Jan. 27, 1922 on the family farm in Castro County. He was the youngest child to parents Garland and Libbie Brown and younger brother to Bernard Brown and Zonell Maples. He lived most of his life in Dimmitt and was a 1939 graduate of Dimmitt High School. He attended Eastern New Mexico College and the University of Texas at Austin. He interrupted his education to volunteer for the United States Navy to serve his country in World War II. His naval services included tours in New Zealand and New Caledonia. When he returned home, he entered the grain elevator business. He began his career as manager of the Kimball Elevator and later became manager of Bruegel and Sons Elevator. He concluded his career as a longtime partner, owner and manager of Flagg Grain Company. Upon retirement, Mr. Brown enjoyed staying in touch with area farmers by working at the North Gin during cotton harvest.

On Feb. 17, 1962, he married Mary Jo Love in Dimmitt, where they made their home and raised their children, Jill and Blake. He served the community of Dimmitt in several ways. He was a life member of the Lions Club, served as the club's Boss Lion and on several officer and committee positions. He was President of the Chamber of Commerce, served on the City Commission and on the Dimmitt cemetery Board. He was a member of the Texas Grain and Feed Association and a life member of the University of Texas Ex Students Association.

He was a licensed pilot and enjoyed many years of flying. He loved traveling with his wife, crossword puzzles, working in his yard, and attending University of Texas football games. After retirement, he became interested in jewelry making and was a talented and master craftsman, making many beautiful pieces of jewelry for family and friends. Of all his pleasures in life, his family was the greatest pleasure and love of all. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Brown; one daughter, Jill Brown of Cedar Park; one son, Blake Brown and his daughter-in-law, Andrea Brown of Cedar Park; two grandsons, Ross and Riley of Cedar Park; nieces, Sunnye Blackwell of Dimmitt and Judith Tate of Amarillo; nephew, De Wayne Brown of Hart and Tom Maples of Oklahoma and their families.

Garner Franklin Frank Buchanan

Garner Franklin "Frank" Buchanan, 82, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2008, at a local nursing center. In honoring his wishes, his body has been donated to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, directed by Abilene Funeral Home. A private memorial service will be held in San Antonio at a later date.

Mr. Buchanan was born Dec. 8, 1925, in Floydada, to John and Agnes Buchanan. He graduated from Amarillo High School and attended West Texas State University in Canyon, graduating in 1952. He was employed by Trinity Universal Insurance Company in Odessa and Lubbock for 25 years.

Survivors include two sons, Terry Buchanan of San Antonio and Kelly Buchanan of Odessa; a daughter, Lesli Buchanan of Abilene; his former wife and friend, Freddie Buchanan of Abilene; two brothers, John Buchanan of Kirby and Edsel Buchanan of Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Betty Haynes of Thibodaux, La.; and three grandchildren, Aaron Buchanan and Joshua Buchanan of San Antonio and Crystal Buchanan of Odessa.

Mr. Buchanan was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Mae Buchanan.

Richard Benjamin Wright

Graveside services for Richard Benjamin Wright, 81, of Lubbock, will be 4 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Littlefield Memorial Park with Reverend Joe Stewart, of the First Baptist Church in Littlefield, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hammons Funeral Home of Littlefield.

Mr. Wright went home to be with the Lord Tuesday morning, May 13, 2008 at his residence in Lubbock. He was born Jan. 12, 1927 in Canyon, to Allen and Alta Mae (Hall) Wright. He attended Spade schools. R.B. married Vernedeen Weaver on Dec. 23, 1943 in Littlefield. He farmed for 20 years in the Bula area. He was also an auto salesman in Lubbock for over 20 years. R.B. enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids. He was preceded in death by his wife Vernedeen on Nov. 24, 2007 and two brothers, Allen Wright and Cleo Wright.

Survivors include three sons, Bill and Minh Wright, of Houston, Howard Wright, of Lubbock, Richard and Mary Wright, of Littlefield; daughter, Amanda and Eric Rodriquez of Hobbs, N.M; brother, Vernon and Lynn Wright, of Sarasota, Fla.; sister, Juanita Taylor, of Amarillo; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family wishes memorials to be sent to your favorite charity.

Katherine Frances Gilliam

Katherine Frances Gilliam, 77, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 11, 2008. She took her first breath of God's fresh air on Monday Dec. 8, 1930 in Aguilar, Colo.

Katherine is preceded in death by her Slovenian immigrant parents, Franc and Mary Mihevc; a brother, Frank Mihevc; and a sister, Mary Dregne.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, John; her brother, Al Mihevic, of Denver, Colo.; and sister, Victoria Courtier, of Colorado Springs, Colo. She is also survived by two sons, Bruce and his wife, Linda Gilliam, of Burleson, Charles and his wife, Tonya Gilliam; and a daughter, Carol Seifert, all of Lubbock; as well as eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Katherine received her BA and Masters degrees from Texas Tech University, and taught for Lubbock Independent School District for 28 years. She loved teaching and is a past President of Lubbock Classroom Teachers Association.

Her other hobbies included golf, bridge, travel, cooking, and most of all, her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 20008 at Lakeridge United Methodist Church at 4701 82nd Street.

Patsy R. Booth

Graveside services for Patsy R. Booth, 76, of Lubbock, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, at Resthaven Memorial Park with Rev. H. Alton Webb officiating. Patsy passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, in Lubbock. She was born on April 5, 1932 in Waco. She was preceded in death, in 2004, by her husband of 51 years, James K. Booth. She is survived by her son, James K. Booth, II; two daughters, Sherri Crump and husband, James, Jr., and Kara Armstrong and husband, Jack; four grandchildren, Nicholas Crump and wife, Kristin, Nicole Crump, Jack Armstrong II, and Justin Armstrong; great-grandson, Seth Crump; and a sister, Virginia Webb. Services are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Ruby Barry

Funeral services for Ruby Barry, 84, of Idalou, and formerly Levelland, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, May 10, 2008, at Second Baptist Church, Levelland, with Rev. Harold Harrison of Whiteface, and Rev. Randy Winfrey of Sundown, officiating. Burial will be in City of Levelland cemetery under direction of George Price Funeral Home, Levelland.

Born on Oct. 21, 1923 in Dickens County, she moved to Hockley County at a young age. She resided in Sundown, Whiteface, and Levelland for many years. She graduated from Sundown High School, and she married Lewis Clyde Barry on June 20, 1943 at Sundown. He died Nov. 10, 1999. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Nita Hall, Ina Mae McBride, and a brother, Lester McBride. She was a homemaker and a member of Second Baptist Church, Levelland.

Survivors include her son, Doug Barry and his wife, Denise, of Sundown; her daughter, Jeanette Rothmund and her husband, Bill, of Idalou; a brother, Homer McBride, of Weatherford; four sisters, Esther McMullen, of Richland Hills, Evelyn Curry, of Argyle, Texas, Dorothy Harper, of Ft. Worth, and Marie Lutzinger, of Weatherford; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

San Juana Soliz

San Juana Soliz, 77, of Lubbock, passed peacefully on Thursday, May 15th, 2008 in Lubbock. Rosary and viewing will be held on Friday 7-9 p.m. at Calvillo Funeral Home. Services will take place on Saturday, May 17th at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens.

San Juana was born to Paula and Alfonso Lopez in Mathis, on Aug. 10, 1930. She married Gilberto Soliz on April 1, 1946. They moved from Mathis to Lubbock in 1959. San Juana worked as a professional seamstress for over 48 years. She won various awards for her work in quilting, knitting and crocheting. Her work was featured yearly at the South Plains Fair and she was extremely talented at creating apparel, quilts and home decor for her family and friends. She worked professionally at BriteWay Cleaners for over 20 years. She was well known in the Lubbock community as a woman of great skill, talent, and kindness. She enjoyed music, collecting elephant figurines, playing bingo and being with her family. She was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who will be greatly missed.

San Juana is survived by her husband Gilberto Soliz, of Lubbock; sons, Esequel, Ismael (Margarita), Israne (Christina), Jaime (Cathy), Noe (Leticia), and Robert; daughters, Diamantina, Christine, Elizabeth (Ronald), Josefina (Hector), Arlene (Cosme), and Rachel; 32 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
