Lonnie Stern

Funeral services for Lonnie Stern, 90, of Levelland, will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at First United Methodist Church, Levelland, with Rev. Wendell Horn, Pastor, and Rev. Jesse Hodge officiating. Burial will follow in City of Levelland cemetery under direction of George Price Funeral Home. He died at 11:05 a.m. Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Covenant Hospital, Levelland.

Born on Nov. 8, 1917, in Kenney, Austin County, he moved to Levelland in 1964 from Plainview. He graduated from Brenham, and then Blinn Junior College. He received his degree in Agricultural Engineering from Texas A & M University, College Station. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, and attended Radar School at Harvard University and M.I.T. He reached the rank of Major prior to his discharge. He worked for the U. S. Department of Agriculture and then was general manager of Producer's Market Association for 25 years.

He married Floriene Pochyla on Dec. 22, 1940 in Waco. Lonnie was a member of First United Methodist Church, Levelland, the A. & M. Century Club, the Texan Club, and A & M 12th Man. He was also a member of Levelland Country Club. He established a President's Endowed Scholarship at Texas A & M in 1989 and has been sending students to A. & M. since then. He served on the Levelland City Council for several years and was past president of the Lubbock Cotton Exchange and served on the board of the Texas Cotton Association. He was a recipient of the Agri-business Personality of the Year.

Survivors include his wife, Floriene Stern of Levelland; two sons, Lonnie Stern, Jr. and wife, Kay, and Ernest Robert Stern and his wife Natasha, all of Houston; his sister, Doris Schomburg of Brenham; his granddaughters, Amber Hendricks of Livonia, Mich.; and Nadin Serikova of Houston; his nephews, Mike Schomburg of Ft. Worth, and David Schomburg of Brenham; his brothers in law, Alfred Pochyla of Waco and Fred Pochyla of Tyler.

Richard Garza Lopez

Richard Garza Lopez, 74, of Lubbock, passed away on June 8, 2008. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 11 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Father Martin Pina will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park. A rosary will be recited tonight at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's.

Richard was born April 4, 1934, in Edinburg, to Juan and Ercelia Lopez, and he attended the University of Mississippi. Richard and Rachel Bustillos were married on April 7, 1962, in Lubbock.

Richard was the Executive Director of the Lubbock Guadalupe Economic Services Corporation for over 25 years. He was the owner of Rio Vista Construction, Executive Director of the South Plains Economic Development Corp., and Past Executive Director of Belhaven Convalescent Center. He was the founder of the Ad Hoc Committee for Farm Workers in West Texas; Co-Founder of the South Plains Food Bank; member of the Tex. Assoc. of Community Action Agencies; member of the Tex. Affordable Housing Task Force, appointed by Gov. Mark White; member of the Guadalupe Neighborhood Assoc.; founder and member of the Lubbock Indigent Health Consortium; treasurer, secretary, and member of the Lubbock Housing Finance Board; Board of Directors, Presbyterian Clinic; board member of Federal Home Loan Bank; member of the Tex. Development Institute; member of the Lubbock Homeless Coalition; member of the Tex. Dept. of Human Services; member of LISD, Advisory Committee; member of the American Business Club, founder and member of Belhaven Convalescent Center; and member of TTU Hispanic Enrollment Task Force. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Guadalupanas Society.

Richard was honored with a Community Service Award; Outstanding Participation Award from LULAC; nominated for the Roy Bass Award; Excellence in Housing Award from the Tex. Dept. of Housing and Community Affairs; Outstanding Contribution and Commitment to Social Justice Award from the West Tex. Farm Worker Task Force; Community Recognition Award from TTU, Upward Bound; North Lubbock Boxing Club; Best Practice Award from the US Dept. of HUD; and the Cesar Chavez Award. He was very instrumental in assisting with urban development efforts in North Lubbock after the devastating tornado in 1970. Richard had a Lubbock park named for him in 2001. He will be greatly missed by his family and the community as well.

Richard is survived by his wife of 46 years, Rachel Lopez, of Lubbock; his children, Jaimy Torrez and his wife, Stacy, of Amarillo; Javier Lopez and his wife, Nicole, of Lubbock; Grace Muniz and her husband Ed, of Pueblo, Colo.; sisters, Lupe Blanco and Carmen Sosa, both of Lubbock; brothers, Joe Lopez and his wife Linda, of Slaton, and Nick Lopez and his wife Vila, of Lamesa; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Lubbock Guadalupe Economic Services Corporation.

Clara Ida Neis

Services for Clara Ida Neis, 89, of Abernathy, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2008 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Plainview, with Rev. David Symm officiating. Burial will follow in the Abernathy cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy.

Mrs. Neis died Sunday, June 8, 2008, in Lubbock.

Born September 1, 1918 in Littlefield, she was next to the youngest of eight children born to Fredrich Lueck and Minnie Smidth Lueck. She married Loren F. Neis on October 13, 1935 in Littlefield, and he preceded her in death November 12, 1993. She moved to Petersburg in 1943 from Abernathy, and back to Abernathy in 2005. She was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Plainview, where she was an active member in the Quilting Club. She was a volunteer for RSVP and the Petersburg Senior Citizens.

She was preceded in death by three grandsons: Jeffrey, Jeremy, and Kerry Neis.

She is survived by a son, Reginald Neis and wife Monica of Belton; two daughters, Ida Bruington and husband Bill of Petersburg; and Charlotte Becton of Lubbock; five grandchildren, Dennis Bruington and wife Jackie; Kevin Bruington; Monty Becton and wife Patti; Jerod Becton and Karen Phillips; and five great-grandchildren, Kindell and Kathryn Bruington, Sarah Neis, Matthew and Mark Phillips.

The family will receive friends at Abell Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday evening.

The family suggests memorials be sent to the Abernathy cemetery or to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

John Carl "Henry" Evans

John Carl "Henry" Evans, 38, of Lubbock, passed away June 5, 2008. Services will be 3 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2008 at Kingswood United Methodist Church, 4801 S. Austin in Amarillo. Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at the The City of Lubbock cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

Henry was born in Lubbock on September 29, 1969. Our beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend left us June 5, 2008 to be with the Lord. Henry is survived by his parents, Johnny and Sarah Evans; one brother, Joe Fly and wife Carol; four sisters, Hanna LaFountain, Judy Cahill, Cathy Thompson and husband Edwin, and Tammy Evans; six nieces and three nephews; six great-nieces as well as countless friends.

The family requests that memorials be sent to the Kingswood Mission Fund, 4801 S. Austin, Amarillo, Tx. 79110 or to Family Life Radio, PO Box 35300, Tucson, Ariz. 85740-5300.

Juanita Grace Adams

Juanita peacefully went home to her savior on June 6, 2008 with her family by her side at the age of 88. Juanita considered Slaton her home although she passed at Angel's Arms Assisted Living in Lubbock.

Services will be performed by Ray Perryman 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 10 at Slaton's Bible Baptist Church with interment in Englewood cemetery and under the direction of Englund's Funeral Services, also of Slaton.

Juanita was born May 15, 1920 to Floyd and Grace Jobe in Dike, and was the oldest of five children. She married Tom Hargrave in 1935 and with him, had four boys. They moved frequently but she finally settled in Slaton in 1950. She met and married W.E. Adams in 1960. She became a step-mother to W. E.'s two boys. Then, together, at the ages of 41 and 48, they had what they called their "miracle" baby, yet another boy. W.E. and Juanita were wonderful parents and together raised seven boys. They remained married for 30 years until he died May 12, 1991.

She was a lifelong cook, and enjoyed dealing with the public, especially the children. Juanita owned and operated the "School Store" across from Slaton Junior High for 11 years and always enjoyed the great memories those kids, now middle age adults, shared with her. She also owned and operated the Slaton Steak House for two years, and wow, what a wonderful cook!

Juanita was looking forward to her family that would meet her in heaven, as they preceded her in death. She was peacefully anxious to be met by her parents; both her husbands, Tom Hargrave and W. E. Adams; her beloved son, Joe Hargrave; her brother, Kenneth Jobe; and grandson, Doug Hargrave.

Juanita is survived by four sons, F.C. "Butch" Hargrave and wife Gloria, of Sulfur Springs; Kenneth Hargrave and wife Cheryl, of Brenham; Tom Hargrave and wife Nancy, of Cleburne; and Steve Adams and wife Darla, of Slaton; daughter-in-law, and widow of Joe, Jo Lynda Hargrave of Lubbock; two step sons, Charles Adams and wife Blanche, of El Paso; and Willie Adams and wife Pauline, of Borger; one brother, Roy Jobe of Sulfur Springs; two sisters, Sue Little of Sulfur Springs and Lou Woolsey of Nelta; nine grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Stetson Adams of Lubbock, grandson; Dillon Adams of Slaton, grandson; Gerry Hargrave of Lubbock, grandson; Lorenzo Hernandez of Slaton, friend; Gary Anthony of Slaton, friend; and Robert Englund of Slaton, friend.

The family will have a visitation from 6 - 8 p.m. Monday, June 9 at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Slaton's Meals on Wheels, 230 West Lynn Street, Slaton, Tx 79364, or to a charity of your choice.

Sid McFall

Funeral Services for Sid McFall, 80, of Quitaque, will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Quitaque. Interment will follow in the Resthaven cemetery in Quitaque under the direction of Seigler Funeral Home of Matador.

Mr. McFall passed away Friday June 6, 2008 in Childress. Sid was a cowboy working on area ranches for 50 years. His work was his joy in life. He was a member of the Texas Cattle Raisers Association, Quater Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association, worked with the Motley County 4-H program, and helped start the Motley County Junior Rodeo. Sid was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Quitaque where he has been a resident since 1988.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice of Quitaque; a son, Bruce McFall and wife Ann of Adrian; a daughter, Beth Whitener and husband Gene Paul of Paducah; three brothers, Jack McFall of Silverton; Bud McFall of Cottage Grove, Ore.; Bill McFall of Pampa; a sister, Alpha McFall of Watsonville, Calif.; four grandchildren, John Whitener of Paducah; Becky McFall of Spur; Nesa Palmer of Newkirk, N.M.; Paula Whitener of Aspermont; three great-grandchildren, Gage Renfro, Seth Palmer, and Bryer Gunnels; and special friends, Todd and Theresa Washington of Flomot.

Memorial contributions may be made to the FUMC of Quitaque or the Caprock Library of Quitaque.

Viewing will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church of Quitaque.

Wilson C. Stewart

Services for Wilson C. Stewart, 88, of Lubbock, will be held 10 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2008 in Resthaven's Abbey Chapel. Burial with military rites will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven.

Wilson passed away on Thursday, June 5th.

He was the youngest of 10 children and was born on December 31, 1919 in Watson, Okla. to James M. and Dealie Rowell Stewart. He married Nell Burgess in Oklahoma on May 25, 1940. He was a WWII Army veteran serving in Okinawa, being discharged in 1945. He retired from Bell Dairy as a supervisor in 1982, after 30 years. He was a member of the Lubbock Lions Club, Knights of Pythius and a lifelong Baptist.

Wilson was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Jim Stewart and wife Doris of Lubbock; two daughters, Margaret Long and husband Don of Montague; and Kay Gunter and husband Charlie of Tyler; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m.

The family suggests memorials to the Garrison Center or to VistaCare Hospice.

Willie Maye Cocanougher Borum

Services for Willie Maye Cocanougher Borum, 90, of Lubbock, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2008, at Broadway Church of Christ Chapel. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Mrs. Borum passed away on Friday, June 6.

She was born on January 7, 1918 in Lott, to Thomas and Sabra Jane Ward. She married Gilbert Cocanougher in 1941, and he preceded her in death in 1990. She married Jess Borum in 1991. She retired from Neiman-Marcus in Houston.

Survivors include her husband, Jess; daughter, Terry Baird of Houston; step-daughter, Brenda Smith; and granddaughter, Nicole Smith.

The family suggests memorials to Cherokee Home for Children, Box 295, Cherokee, Tx 76832.
