Bobbie Faye Miller

Services for Bobbie Faye Miller, 81, of Lubbock will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at Agape Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at City of Lubbock cemetery.

Bobbie is survived by her husband, Herbert; four sons, three daughters, 16 grandkids, and 23 ½ great-grandkids.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Agape Funeral Chapel.

Veronica Lafuente-McCuistian

Family and friends will gather to mourn the loss and celebrate the life of Veronica Lafuente-McCuistian who went to be with her heavenly father on August 28, 2009. Family will welcome friends and loved-ones at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel, located at 5740 19th and loop 289 at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 for a Time of Reflection Service. Condolences can be made through-out the day on Tuesday. Funeral Mass for Veronica will be at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church located at 3107 Erskine St. at 10 a.m. on September 2. The Celebrant will be Father David Cruz. Internment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Veronica was born in Hereford to Alfredo and Bertha Lafuente. She graduated from Friona High School, and attended Texas Tech University where she graduated with her Bachelors in Social Work, and later received her Masters from the University of Texas at Arlington. Veronica worked at Redbud Dialysis Center for over 20 years. She was a longtime member of many organizations including The National Kidney Foundation, The National Association of Social Workers, Council of Nephrology Social Workers, and Lubbock Medical Social Workers. She resided most recently in Los Alamos, N.M.

She is preceded in death by her mother Bertha. Those left to cherish her memories include her husband, Trent of Los Alamos, N.M.; her father, Alfredo Lafuente; brothers, Joe Lafuente of Friona, Tony Lafuente of Corpus Christi, Harvey Lafuente of Lubbock, Jerry Lafuente of Lubbock, Jack Lafuente of Lubbock, Jerard Lafuente of Lubbock; sisters, Mary Cardenas of Lubbock, Sonia Rios of Seminole, Freda Lafuente of Texas City, Honie Lafuente of Santa Fe, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Veronica will be dearly remembered as a wonderful and giving wife, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend who was always there for everyone. Her generous spirit and loving attitude will live in each of us who were blessed to know and love her. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the National Kidney Foundation West Texas Chapter 4601 50th St. Lubbock Texas 79416.

Lori Denise Pucek

Lori Denise Pucek was born in Fort Worth, January 26, 1961, the daughter of James and Jodie Stratton. She passed away August 26, 2009 in Houston. Lori was a registered nurse. She is survived by her father, James Pahl Stratton; mother, Jodie Burkhalter; daughter, Autumn Berg; sons, Andrew Pucek, Joey Duncan, and Jordan Duncan; sisters, Kerry Jackson and MegAnne Stratton; brothers, Greg Burkhalter and Jimmy Stratton.

Services will be September 2, 2009 at Crossroads Community Church, 5833 4th St., Lubbock, Texas. Lori's ashes will be scattered at sea by the US Coast Guard.

Rufino C. Lira

Rufino C. Lira, 88, passed away on August, 30 2009 in Shallowater. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and member of the 3rd order of St. Francis of Assisi. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Joaquina Lira; children and spouses, Frank Lira, Mario Lira, Cecilia (Ramiro) Castillo, Lupe "Wallace" (Sylvia) Lira, Martha and Manuel Constancio, Hilaria (Cornelio) Serenil and Benny (Cipi) Lira; and one brother, Bacilio Lira; and 16 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Visitation Wednesday September 2nd from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Kirby Don Shearer

Kirby Don Shearer of Lubbock departed this life on August 30, 2009 at the age of 52 years. He was born in Alamogordo, N.M. to Curtis and Mary (Fowler) Shearer on August 25, 1957. Kirby attended Tahoka High School. He graduated from Court Reporting School and was an EMT for Lynn County Hospital District. Mr. Shearer moved to Lubbock from Tahoka in 1994. He was a member of the Lynn County EMS.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother Mary of Lubbock and one brother, Shelby Shearer of Oklahoma; three aunts, Doris Harmonson of Prince George, Va., Christine Britton of Loraine, and Sylvia Moon of Lubbock; and numerous cousins.

Mr. Shearer was preceded in death by his father Curtis.

Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at White Memorial Chapel in Lubbock, with Monty Pettyjohn officiating.

Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home in Lubbock.

Henry Hoeve

Henry Hoeve of Ransom Canyon passed away August 12, 2009, in the company of his family. Always a teacher at heart, Henry donated his body to the Texas Tech School of Medicine. Born on October 7, 1930 in Walsum, Germany, Henry graduated from the Duisburg School of Engineering. Henry and his wife of 55 years, Erika, immigrated to the US in 1956.

Living in California, he enjoyed a career in the Aerospace Industry, and continued his education in Graduate School at UCLA. Henry was a long time member and past President of Rotary International, The Society of Automotive Engineering, The American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineering, and The American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Henry and family moved to Ransom Canyon in 1976, where he founded and operated his own manufacturing company. His passions included Boy Scouts, traveling, and cooking for his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Heinrich and Karola Hoeve; and leaves us with a legacy of loving family, his wife, Erika; his sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce, Cliff, Jennifer, Greg and Rose; his grandchildren, Claudia, Monica, Stephanie, Samantha, Nicholaus, Joshua, and Alexis; and his great-grandchildren, Kimber and Haley.

All of Henry's friends and family are invited to a memorial service at Ransom Canyon Chapel this Thurs. Aug. 20, at 6 p.m. The celebration will continue immediately following the service at the Hoeve family home, #1 Hoeve Court in Ransom Canyon, TX.

The family encourages memorial donations be made to Panda's Waggin' Tails Animal Rescue and Sanctuary, PO Box 6960, Anton, TX.

Peggy Joanne Shiver McGrew

Funeral services for Peggy Joanne Shiver McGrew, 61, of Lubbock will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2009, in the sanctuary at First Baptist Church of Lubbock with the Rev. Randy Holman officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. John Ballard officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Funeral Home. Peggy died August 13, 2009, at Covenant Women's and Children's Hospital in Lubbock, where she had worked for nearly 20 years as a registered nurse and case manager. Peggy was born August 11, 1948, in Enid, Okla. to Russell and Rosemary Shiver, who preceded her in death.

Peggy graduated from Harlandale High School in San Antonio in 1966 and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Tech University in 1991. She married V.G. McGrew on June 4, 1976, in Pleasanton, and moved to Norwich, England in 1982 and Aberdeen, Scotland in 1983. The couple moved back to Texas in 1986, eventually settling in Snyder before moving to Lubbock in 1990.

Peggy was a member of First Baptist Church of Lubbock, where she sang with the Celebration Choir and taught fourth grade Sunday School. She had a servant's heart and devoted herself to serving God by ministering to the needs of children both as a nurse and children's ministry volunteer.

Survivors include her husband, V.G. McGrew; daughter, Julie Gartz-Utset and her husband Eugene of Old Bridge, N.J.; stepdaughters Julie Krawitz of North Richland Hills, and Sheila McGrew of Midland; sisters, Phyllis Johnson of Seminole, Barbara Dale and her husband Dan of Glasgow, Mont., and Becky Williams and her husband Larry of Melissa; grandchildren, Kathryn Elaine Law-Vaughan of Lincolnshire, England, David Gartz of Seminole, and Michael and Andrew Utset of Old Bridge, N.J.; great-grandson Derrick Delmasso of Seminole; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Daniel Arguijo, Jr.

Daniel Arguijo, Jr. passed away June 26, 2009. He was born Dec. 10. 1981 to Criselda and Daniel, Sr. He is survived by five sisters, Elizabeth, Danielle, Anita, Lucee, and Priscilla; three brothers, Chris, Daniel (Boy), and Carlos; 11 nieces, eight nephews, two uncles, five aunts, many cousins, and Grandma Amparo Garza.

He is preceded in death by grandparents, Lucy and Ruben Arguijo; uncles, Joe and Ruben; and his beloved dog, bear.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. today, July 14, 2009 at Central Lubbock Church of Christ 1409 23rd St. with Brother Roderick Syrus officiating.

Virgil H. Kelley

Virgil H. Kelley, 88, of Lubbock, formerly of Denver City, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2009 in Lubbock.

Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, August 15th at 11 a.m. in the Denver City Memorial Park. Memorial services will follow in the First United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. with the Reverend George Price officiating. Services are under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City.

Virgil was born December 4, 1920 at home in the Lakeview community in Floyd County, to Charley D. and Dolly F. Kelley. He attended and graduated from Lockney High School and then attended West Texas State College in Canyon. Virgil played football for WT until he joined the U.S. Army. He saw combat in France in WWII where he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. After the war, he returned to WT to finish his degree. Virgil married Mary Nell Earnest in Clovis, N.M. on July 5, 1947. They moved to Denver City in 1947 where he was the Junior High Coach. During their time in Denver City, Virgil attended Eastern N.M. State in Portales where he received his master's degree in education in 1963 and his administrator's certification. In the 1951 to 53 school year, he became the head basketball coach and took his team to the state final game in 1953. He became the intermediate school principal in 1960 and Assistant Superintendent in 1970. In 1977, Virgil took over as Superintendent of Denver City ISD. He retired from that position at the end of the 1983 to 84 school year. Virgil and his wife were very active in the community during their time in Denver City. He was an active member in the Lion's Club, serving a term as president. In 1981 Virgil was cited as Texas honorary farmer of the year by the Future Farmers of America. Virgil was involved in the Chamber of Commerce. In 1983 they named him Outstanding Citizen of the Year. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on many church's committees. Virgil loved to golf and watch sports. After his retirement he and his wife moved to Lake Brownwood where he became a charter member of the Fisherman's Chapel. He moved to Lubbock in 2003.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Curtis Kelley in 1971, and Euwell Dee Kelley in 1994.

Virgil is survived by his wife, Mary Nell Kelley, of Lubbock; a daughter, Karen Ann Price and husband George of Childress; a son, Bart Kelley and wife Lagatha of Lubbock; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Price, Zachary Price, Caleb Price, Micki Francis, Shyla Wilson, Tanner Kelley, and Kolt Kelley; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be: Jeremy Price, Zachary Price, Caleb Price, Tanner Kelley, Kolt Kelley, and ChrisWilson.
