ROY DOUGLAS (Dan) CHAMBLEE, JR.

Funeral services for Roy Douglas (Dan) Chamblee, Jr., 81, of Palacios, were Nov. 13, 2003 at the First Baptist Church of Palacios with Revs. Bob Hairston and J. R. Gwin officiating. Interment will be at Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Chamblee was born Jan. 9, 1922 in Palacios to the late Roy Douglas, Sr. and Annie Lloyd Daniels Chamblee. He died Nov. 10, 2003.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of Palacios. He was a retired cotton and maize farmer and former co-owner of the Farmer’s Cotton Gin. He was a member of over 53-years and past Master of the Palacios Masonic Lodge #990 A.F. & A.M.; a member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry S. J. Arabia Shrine Temple, Houston, Tx.; and the Gulf Coast Shrine Club, Bay City. He received the Golden Trowel Award from the Grand Lodge of Texas for Exceptional Service in his Masonic work and outstanding service to his church and community on Sept. 6, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Maloy Wanda Chamblee of Palacios; daughters and sons-in-law Gaye and Lee Brown of Longview, Tx., and Becky and Wade Daniel of Orange, Tx.; son and daughter-in-law Lynn and Randy Braddock of Grayson, LA; sisters Loraine Smith, Faye Bates, Ethel Kunefke and Frances Milam, all of Palacios, and Margaret Cleveland and Shirley Griffith of Victoria; sister-in-law Oveta Chamblee of Brazoria; grandchildren Ashley Daniel of Orange, Rachel Brown of Longview, and Michael Braddock of Grayson, La.; mother-in-law Georgia Inez Lemmons of Bay City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Mary Alice, Wanda Jean and Joyce Ann Chamblee and Evelyn Taylor; an infant brother and Fred Chamblee; and granddaughter Kristina Kyffe.
Pallbearers were his nephews Charles Eikenberg, Bobby Kunefke, Vernon Bates, Jr., Mark Bates, Alton and David Smith, and Michael and Dwayne Griffith.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Palacios or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Rd., Bethesda, MD 20814.
Arrangements were with Palacios Funeral Home.

DORTHA LEE RODDY ADKINS

Funeral services for Dortha Lee Roddy Adkins, 94, of Palacios, were held Nov. 11, 2003 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Ringo officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Adkins was born May 18, 1909 in Kaufman County to Filmore and Molly Roddy. She died Nov. 8, 2003.
She had been a resident of Palacios for the past 44 years and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. For many years she sold Avon in Palacios. At 19 she married her husband of 65 years, Byron ‘Red’ Adkins. Following the oil fields, they helped others to start a very successful Southern Baptist Church in Greeley, Col. Residing the last few years at the Palacios Healthcare Center, she was voted Valentine Queen by her peers and rode in the Palacios parade.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Frances and John Taylor of Palacios; a niece, Martha Jimmie Earp and husband C. W. of Fort Worth; a nephew, Clyde Felkner of Arlington; and by many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

BENITO AGUILERA

Funeral services Benito Aguilera, 89, of Palacios, were held Nov. 5, 2003 at Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Internment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Aguilera was born March 21, 1914 in Mexico to the late Pedro and Dominga Sanchez Aguilera. He died Nov. 2, 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Guadalupe Aguilera; daughters Linda Zavala of Palacios, Guadalupe Acevedo and Consuelo Juarez, both of Minnesota, Gloria Lopez and Margarita Arroyo, both of Eagle Pass, and Idalia Patino of Uvalde; sons Gonzalo Aguilera and Jesus Aguilera, both of Eagle Pass, Juan Aguilera of Palacios, Benito Aguilera Jr. of Hitchcock, Angel Aguilera and Jose Aguilera, both of Bay City; sister Magdalena Aguilera of Mexico; brother Pedro Aguilera of Seminole; 56 grandchildren; and 57 great-grandchildren.

RUTH HARDUNG

Funeral services for Ruth Hardung, 78, of Cuero, formerly of Palacios, were held Nov. 7, 2003 at Palacios Church of Christ with Rev. Nathan Burrows officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery in Blessing.
Mrs. Hardung was born April 30, 1925 in Hufsmith, TX to the late Rev. John Frank and Valletta Amanda Guinn Bentley. She died Nov. 2, 2003.
She was employed by Child Welfare for 40 years as a foster parent and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Mrs. Hardung is survived by five daughters, Patsy Parent of Kiowa, OK, Norma Sue Collier of Bayou La Batre, AL, Wand Faye Thompson of Chunchula, AL, Lucy Earlene Hardung and Elizabeth Ann Clifton, both of Cuero, TX; one son, Robert Hardung Swanson of Carrolton, GA; one sister Caldonia “Donie” Polk of Clarksville, AK; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Warren “Buck” George Hardung; son Robert “Bob” E. Kupka; sisters Floy Christmas, Maple Young, Annie Cronin, Alta Brunner, George Sanders, and Lucy Martins; and brothers Claude McMillian Bentley, Earl Frank Bentley, John Daniel Bentley and Wilke Bentley.

AARON BRADLEY KUDELKA PIWONKA

A memorial service for two-month old Aaron Bradley Kudelka Piwonka of Palacios was held Nov. 1 at at Christ Lutheran Church of El Campo with the Rev. Art Weiss officiating.
He was born Aug. 7, 2003, in Houston to Virgil Piwonka of Danbury and Rachael Kudelka of Palacios. He died Oct. 27, 2003.
He is survived by a sister, Brooke Piwonka of Danbury; a brother, Jimmy Piwonka of Palacios; grandparents Randy Bigelow and Debbie Bigelow, both of Palacios, and Susan Sparks and Jimmie Sparks, both of Danbury; and great-grandparents, George A. Koenig and Lela Jane Koenig, both of Garwood, and Emma Piwonka of Blessing.

BENNIE L. STARR, SR.

Funeral services for Bennie L. Starr, Sr., 64, of Ocala, FL were held Friday, Oct. 31, 2003 at Hiers Funeral Home in Ocala, FL. Internment was in Highland Memorial Park in Ocala, FL.
Mr. Starr was born Sept. 8, 1939 in Houston to the late Robert S. Starr and Zura Wilkerson. He died Oct. 26, 2003.
He was a 1958 graduate of Palacios High School, a retired high school ROTC teacher, a retired First Sergeant in the U.S. Army and a veteran of Viet Nam. He was a member of American Legion and life member of Non-Commissioned Officers Association. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Starr of Ocala, FL; one daughter, Karen K. Hale, of Ocean Springs, MS; one son, Bennie L. Starr, Jr., of Mobile, AL; one sister, Peti Campbell, of Houston, TX; 3 brothers, Robert Starr, Ted Starr, Aubrey Allen, all of Houston, TX; and 4 grandchildren.

CHRIS LONGORIA

Funeral services for Chris Longoria, 24, of Blessing, were held Oct. 24, 2003 at St. Peters Catholic Church with the Rev. Samuel Appiasi officiating. Interment was be at St. Peters Catholic cemetery.
He was born Aug. 21, 1979, in Palacios, to Ursula Guerrero Longoria of Blessing and the late Manuel Longoria Jr. He died Oct. 21, 2003.
He was a 1999 graduate of Tidehaven High School.
He is survived by his son, Damon Longoria, of Palacios; sisters, Delores Hernandez of Markham and Lupe Martinez of Blessing; and brother, James Longoria of Blessing.
Pallbearers were Ben Hernandez, Tony Martinez, Jessie Auzston, Ryan Longoria, Michael Rivera, Byron Battle, Matt Mauch, and Jason Galvan.
Honorary pallbearers were James Longoria, Jeremy Dyer, Alex Rivera, Patrick Mozley, and Eugene Lara.

FLOYD HOWARD HOLLOWAY

A memorial service for Floyd Howard Holloway, 79, of Palacios, will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. David Rush officiating. A private burial will be held at Hawley cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Holloway was born May 31, 1924, in Alton Park, Tenn., to the late James W. and Sindia Henderson Holloway. He died Oct. 22, 2003.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service.
He is survived by his caregiver, Irene Mangum; and close friend Homer Stripland, both of Palacios.

MARIE PESAK

Funeral services for Marie Pesak, 79, of Liverpool, Tx. were held Oct. 22, 2003 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing with Father Samuel Appiasi officiating. Interment was at Cedarvale cemetery in Bay City.
Mrs. Pesak was born Aug. 22, 1934 in Bay City to the late Ollie Mitchel and Charlotte Frances Holloway Falks. She died Oct. 20, 2003 in Houston.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Sandra and Frank Brangan of Liverpool, Tx., and Debra and David Simek of Inez, Tx; sisters Dolores Harvey of Angleton, Doris Wilks of Bay City, Gayle Orsag of Alvin, Margie Stroud of Bay City and Iola Rorex of Blessing; brothers Ollie Falks of Angleton and Edward Falks of Manvel; grandchildren Tammye Griffin, Randa Simek and Jake Simek; and great-grandchildren Timanthy Peterson and Kyle Griffin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bohus "Bob" Pesak; son Randal Ray Pesak; sister Estella Ziegler; and brothers Donald Falks and Radie Stroud.
Pallbearers are Don Falks, Dwayne Falks, Keith Falks, Rick Evanicky, James Evanicky, Michael Wilks, Chris Orsage, Jerry Anderson and Michael Anderson.
Memorials may be made to the M. D. Anderson Sarcoma Dept.

IRENE SERNA VALERO

Funeral services for Irene Serna Valero, 72, were held Oct. 16, 2003 at Labor of Love Ministries with Rev. Danny Perez officiating.
Mrs. Valero was born April 29, 1931 in Edinburg, Tx. to the late Olivia Roga and Lupe Serna, Sr. She died Oct. 12, 2003.
She is survived by seven daughters, Cynthia Islas of San Angelo, Naomi Kaucher of Anchorage, Alaska, Sharon Jo Islas of Palacios, Marla Sawyer of Palacios, Linda Rodriguez of Houston, Diane Rogers of Houston and Dominque Soriano of San Antonio; a son, Eric Valero of Aurora, Colo.; a sister, Irma Serna of Rosenburg; brothers Lupe Serna, Jr. of Victoria and Edward Serna of Palacios; 25 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Vincent T. Islas; and two brothers, Rudy Serna and Arnold Serna.
Pallbearers were Dustin Allen Islas, Zachariah Islas, John Kaucher, Arnold Serna, Jr., Henry Serna and Robby Serna.
Arrangements were with Artero Memorial Chapels of Port Lavaca.
