CHARLES HARVEY

Funeral services for Charles Harvey, 77 of Palacios, Tx., were held Nov. 7, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Palacios with Rev. James Collins officiating. Interment was at Red Bluff cemetery in Lolita, Tx.

Mr. Harvey was born on April 15, 1934 to Curtis Harvey and Leetta Harvey. He passed away Nov. 4, 2011 in Victoria, Tx.

Charles served in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957. He was the owner and florist of Palacios Floral Service, for 34 years. He was a long-time member of the Palacios Lions Club and the First Baptist Church of Palacios.

He is survived by his daughters, Sharlynn Ripke of Seguin, Tx. and Vicki Lang of Franklin, TN; five grandchildren, Leah and Trevor Ripke and Madelyn, Max and Mason Lang; sister, Delores Van Dyke of Lockhart, Tx.; and brother, Terry Lee Harvey of Palacios.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Wanda Thedford Harvey.

Arrangements are with Palacios Funeral Home, (361) 972-2012.

GEORGE ARTHUR PROCTOR

Memorial services are pending for George Arthur Proctor, 81, of Palacios, Tx.

Mr. Proctor was born Aug. 21, 1930 in Albany, Tx. He passed away Oct. 27, 2011 in Victoria, Tx. He was a longtime resident of Palacios.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law George and Vada Proctor, of Sulphur Springs, Tx., Michael and Cindy Proctor of Kempner, Tx., and Thomas and Dee J Proctor of Inez, Tx.; daughter and son-in law Jeannie Kay and Jerry Gillum of Sulphur Springs, Tx.; 18 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Robert Proctor.

LAWRENCE DANIEL CREWS

Funeral services for Lawrence Daniel Crews, Jr., 53, of Bay City, Tx., were held Oct. 26, 2011 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Bay City with Rev. Gerry Cernoch officiating. Interment was at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Mr. Crews was born April 7, 1958 in Bay City to Lawrence Daniel Crews, Sr. and Mary Frances Guzman Crews. He passed away Oct. 20, 2011. He was a Plant Operator for STP.

He is survived by his mother Mary Crews of Bay City; son Lawrence Daniel Crews III of Bay City; sister Mary Ann Jimerson of Washington State and his beloved dog Peanut.

His father preceded him in death.

JAMES LEO PENLAND

James Leo Penland, 79, died Sept. 24, 2011in Granbury, Tx. He was born Sept. 17, 1932 in Collegeport, Tx. to Altha Aaron and Vannie Huffhines Penland.

Family memorial service will be held at a later date.

James told great stories, enjoyed fishing and hunting, his grandchildren, and driving the Sunday School bus.

He is survived by daughters Sharon M. Burnham of Bastrop, Tx., Sarah L. Penland of Lockhart, Tx., Rhoda A. Hart of Cedar Creek, Tx., Carmel A. Penland of Tyler, Tx., Christy P. Howard of Konowa, Oklahoma, and Heather P. Matthews of Heidelberg, Germany; brothers Eugene E. Penland and John E. Penland of Palacios, Tx.; sisters Nell P. Mize of Cuero, Tx. and Sue P. Hawthorne of Searcy, Ark.; 19 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Altha Aaron Penland II, five brothers, and one sister.

Memorials may be sent to Hawley cemetery Association in Blessing, Tx.

ZELMA RUTH HOLLOWAY

Zelma Ruth Holloway, 82, formerly of Palacios, Tx., passed away Oct. 16, 2011.

She was born August 13, 1929 in Walters, Oklahoma to the late George Adkisson and Bettie Lamb Adkisson. She had worked in the cafeteria for Palacios ISD and at Pier Drive-In for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Holloway in 1996 and son-in-law James Hagaman in 2005.

Survivors include daughter Bettie Hagaman of Blessing, Tx.; her twin sister Ruby Railey of Leveland, Tx.; brother Gerald Adkisson of Brownwood, Tx.; grandchildren Stacy Meinardus and Cody Hagaman; and great grandchildren Dalton James Novak, Landen James Hagaman, Casey James Hagaman and Katelyn Marie Hagaman.

JOHN O. NESBITT

Funeral services for John O. Nesbitt, 88 of Blessing, Tx., were held Oct. 15, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Blessing with Brother Larry Swift officiating. Burial was at Hawley cemetery.

John was born to the late Emmie (Dixon) and John Oliver Nesbitt in Sterling, Ill. He passed away Oct. 10, 2011 in Palacios, Tx.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mildred; and children Arbie, Lindell Nesbitt, Carol (Carlos) Yates, Alvie (Elaine) Nesbitt, Floyd (Olivia ) Nesbitt, James (Judy) Nesbitt, Sr. and Joyce (Robert) Smith.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Ruth and Wilma; brother Wesley; daughter JoAnn; and sons Howard, Chuck and Lloyd.

John has a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his best friend “Jeff” whom he never left home without. John will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord JesusChrist. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation and we have a priceless inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled beyond the reach of change and decay.”

PAULINE WILLIAMS KORNEGAY

Pauline (Williams) Kornegay was called to her heavenly home on Oct. 1, 2011 at the age of 88 years. Services were held Oct. 4 at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell, Tx. with Rev. Larry Butcher of Houston officiating. Interment followed at Hix cemetery in Burleson County. Rev. H.O. Bilderback sang the special music during the service.

Pauline was born Sept. 17, 1923 to Lee and Euda Williams, in Rita, Tx. She was the third of eight siblings, four brothers and three sisters. She married David Charles Kornegay on June 21, 1952. The couple made their home in Sweeny where she lived until 2008.

Pauline worked for Dow Chemical and Sweeny I.S.D. and was a faithful member in the First Baptist Church of Sweeny.

Pauline enjoyed quilting, scrabble, card games and reading. She spent many an hour playing Solitaire on her computer, although her favorite game was forty-two. She was a skillful player and enjoyed playing many a game with her family and friends. She was an avid fan of Fox news and was passionate about politics and religion. Her favorite book was the Bible and had read it through many times.

Pauline was a devoted wife and mother and was delighted when she became a grandmother for the first time at the age of 84. She loved spending time with family, especially her three year old grandson, Dylan who brought her great joy.

She is survived by her daughter, Terri “TK” Kornegay of Caldwell; her son David “Kent” and wife Dawn Kornegay, grandson David Dylan’ six siblings, Billie Mac and wife Earline Williams of Houston, Edward F. Williams of Caldwell, Shirley and husband Lou Eberspacher of Angleton, Martha Philp of Freeport, Lonnie L. and wife Brenda Williams of Caldwell, Patsy and husband A.J. Hebert of Palacios, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother Rankin Lee “Pat” Williams.

ELIZABETH ANN “LIZ” COWART

Elizabeth Ann Cowart, known to everyone as Liz, 59, of Victoria, Tx. slipped peacefully away to be with the Lord on Sept. 25, 2011.

Liz was born on Jan. 10, 1952, to the late Pete and Dorothy Wigginton. She was a longtime resident of Palacios until 2 years ago when her health began to decline and she moved to Lolita, then to the Texan Rehab and Nursing Facility in Victoria where her sister, Sandra, is the Assistant D.O.N.

Liz was a friend to everyone she met. She was a very outspoken person and loved to joke with everyone. She had a loving passion for everyone’s pets, especially her cats and her beloved Boo Boo. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Palacios.

She is survived by her sisters Carolyn and husband Earl White, of Palacios, Tx.; Debra and husband Tommy Meyers, of Bonifay, Florida, and Sandra Swire, of Lolita; nephews Edward Murphy, Jr., Charles Martin, David and Gary White, Robbie and Joey Swire; and many great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Edward Murphy, Sr.; sister Eavalana Murphy; and niece Annie Mae White.

Liz requested to be cremated and have a “Celebration of Life” that will be announced at a later date.
