ALFRED LONGORIA

Funeral services for Alfred Longoria, 41, of Houston and formerly of Palacios, Tx., were held March 27, 2010 at The Living Word Church, 1405 12th St. in Palacios.

Mr. Longoria was born Aug. 12, 1968 to the late Alicia F. and Charlie Longoria, Jr. He passed awaty March 22, 2010.

He is survived by his children Alfred, Erica and Jessica Longoria of Palacios; brother Charlie Longoria III of Rockport, Tx.; sisters Susan L. Madrigal of Spring, Tx., Cynthia Longoria and Debra Martinez, both of Houston, Tx.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Charlie Longoria VI, Anthony Longoria, Daniel Mohammad, Aaron Madrigal, Saul Chacon and Kenny Garcia.

LETHA YEARWOOD PETERSEN

Funeral services for Letha Yearwood Petersen, 85, of Palacios, Tx., were held March 26, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Palacios with Rev. Zach Nicholson officiating. Interment was at Danevang cemetery in Danevang, Tx.

Mrs. Petersen was born July 2, 1924 in Edna, Tx. to the late Bethel Thomas and Olive Lucretia Shows Yearwood. She passed away March 23, 2010.

She moved to Palacios in 1945 and worked for Central Power & Light for 20 years. In 1952 she married Irvin Petersen. Together they operated Petersen’s Restaurant for many years. She was very active in community projects, especially those for youth. She was a member of First Baptist Church, a charter member of the Alpha Club and an honorary member of the Harmonie Club.

She is survived by her husband Irvin Petersen of Palacios; daughter Tami Lynn Fort and husband Bill of Palacios; son Brent Thomas Petersen and wife Dawn of Nassau Bay, Tx.; and grandchildren Amber Dale, Karch Petersen, Kyle Petersen, Spencer Fort, Heather Fort and Jennifer Fort.

She was preceded in death by brothers Carl, Charles and Roy Yearwood, Elroy Walton, and sisters Ina Mae Lassiter, Aline Reid, Birdie Granham, Gladys McGill and Ivy Walker.

Memorials may be made to Houston Hospice El Campo or the First Baptist Church of Palacios.

JACK RICHARD BELL, SR.

Funeral services for Jack Richard Bell, Sr., 74, of Palacios, Tx., were held March 11, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Palacios with Rev. Zack Nicholson officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.

Mr. Bell was born Oct. 8, 1935 in Lubbock, Tx. to the late Opal and J.R. Bell. He passed away March 8, 2010.

Mr. Bell has lived in Palacios for the last six years and has become a familiar face in the community as he walked the bayfront daily for much of that time.

Known as Coach Bell during his 31 years as an educator, he had a successful career as a high school basketball coach in Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado, taking teams to the state boys’ basketball tournament in the latter two states. He remained Coach Bell throughout his life to the hundreds of men and women whose characters he positively shaped through his hard work and example.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Polasek Bell; his son Jack, Jr. of Palacios; daughter, Judi of Fort Worth; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Dena, of Denver, Colorado, and James and Kerri, of Branson, Missouri; grandchildren Sherice, Amanda, Patrick, Tanner, and Kiera of Denver Colorado, and Phoebe and Christian of Branson, Missouri; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Sonny Sims, of Early, Tx.; and brother Jeff Vaughn, of Coleman, Tx.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Luther Frank Bell.

Pallbearers were Casey Niland, Larry Roche, Doug Cheatham, Jimmy Johnson, Nathan Raska, and David Grice.

EDNA RAE PARKER FIELDS

Funeral services for Edna Rae Parker Fields, 82, of Palacios, Tx., were held March 2, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Palacios with Rev. Jack Hudson officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.

Mrs. Fields was born on Aug. 11, 1927 to Cuy and Viola Parker. She passed away Feb. 27, 2010.

She is survived by sons Bryan Fields of Blessing, and Ronnie Fields and wife Paulette of Palacios. Known by many as “Granny”, she was blessed with four grandchildren: Rhonda Garcia and Allison Fields of Palacios, Russell Fields of Dallas and Paula Zuniga of San Benito; and five great-grandchildren, Hilary, Christian, Ethan and Elisha Garcia of Palacios, and Ezvyn Zuniga of San Benito, Tx.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Fields, and a son, Paul Edward Fields.

Arrangements were with Grace Funeral Home of Victoria, 361-573-4341.

ELNORA A. OGLESBY

Funeral services for Elnora A. Oglesby, 87, of Palacios, Tx., were held March 1, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church of Palacios with Rev. Andy Blair officiating. Interment was at Danevang cemetery in Danevang, Tx.

Mrs. Oglesby was born Sept. 22, 1922 in El Campo, Tx. to Axel Henrey Petersen and Signa Lyke Petersen. She passed away Feb. 25, 2010.

She was a lifelong resident of Palacios and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Palacios. She was also a member of the Alapha Club for 63 years and the Harmony Club for 25 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Jan Oglesby Hooker and husband Bobby of Del Rio, Tx; son Terry Oglesby and wife Jan of Palacios; sister Ruth Vlanton of Houston, Tx.; a brother Irvin Petersen of Palacios; grandchildren Tracy Perkins, Dax Oglesby and Trent Oglesby; and by seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Trent Oglesby, Dax Oglesby, Tracy Perkins, Larry Taylor, Bill Glaros and Michael Glaros. Honorary pallbearers were Brent Gerald, Paul Taylor, Jim Petersen and Irvin Petersen.

MARY ANN PRICE

A memorial service for Mary Ann Price was held Feb. 27, 2010 at Trinity Baptist Church.

Mary Ann was a long time resident of Palacios, Tx. She passed on Feb. 17, 2010 in her daughter’s home with her husband at her side.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Roy Price; her children Randall Price and Wanda Price Stevens; and granddaughters Niccole Stevens Hill, Alyssa Stevens and Lyla Mae Price. Mary Ann has brothers, a sister, nieces, nephews, and many friends in the Asheville, NC area.

BERTHA YOLANDA HERNANDEZ

Memorial service arrangements are pending for Bertha Yolanda Hernandez, 58, of Palacios, Tx.

Mrs. Hernandez born Aug. 28, 1951 to the late Felicita and Raquel Uranga in Alpine, Tx. She died Feb. 18, 2010.

She had lived in Palacios for the past 24 years.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Luis Lauro Hernandez; children Luis Antonio Hernandez and his girlfriend Elizabeth Carraazco both of Palacios, Amanda Alcocer and husband Victor of Corpus Christi, and Jose Roberto Hernandez of Palacios; grandchildren Alexandra, Angelina and Gabriel; sisters Merced Uranga and Lorina Uranga of Alpine, Tx., and Maria Elena Juarez and husband Jessie Juarez of Palmdale, CA; brother Raquel Uranga and wife Carol of Gardendale, Tx.; nieces Divonne Uranga and Stefanie Juarez; and numerous nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Armando Uranga.

Bertha will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

RAYMOND LEE GRIFFITH

Graveside services for Raymond Lee Griffith, 80, of Blessing, TX, were held Feb. 5, 2010 at at the La Bauve cemetery in Francitas, TX with Mike Griffith officiating.

Mr. Giffith was born Sept. 20, 1929 in Francitas, TX to the late Walton William Griffith and Jessie Faye Green Griffith. He passed away Feb. 2, 2010 in Victoria, TX.

He was a life long resident of Matagorda County and was a retired Farmer, Rancher, and Oil Field worker.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Durrell and Deean Griffith of Markham, Lewis Ray and Linda Griffith of Midfield, and Willie Lee and Robin Griffith of Blessing; sisters Meldina Nelson of Cape Carancahua, Faye Haskell of Matagorda, and Susie Jalufka of Francitas; brothers K.O. Griffith of Francitas, Irvin Griffith of Victoria, and Sterling Griffith of Port Lavaca; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Alvena Gill; sisters Annie Mae Long and Ethel Tanner; brothers J.W. Griffith, Mack Griffith, and Vernon Griffith; and a grandson, Bryan Griffith.

Honorary pallbearers were his grandsons.
