MARGARET ELOISE HOLMES JOHNSON

Funeral services for Margaret Eloise Holmes Johnson, 90, were held Dec. 23, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church in Palacios with Revs. Andy and Janel Blair officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson was born May 17, 1917 to Frances Anders Holmes and Burrell Prater Holmes in Olivia, Tx. She was called home Dec. 20, 2007 near where she was born and raised.

She was the first of the Holmes girls. She and her husband, Charles R. Johnson, were Farm and Ranch Stewards. They never left the Matagorda, Jackson, Calhoun County area which they loved so much. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church in Palacios.

She was preceded in death by her parents Frances Anders Holmes and Burrell Prather Holmes; husband; granddaughter Alison Johnson; daughter-in-law Debie Johnson; grandson Randy Krause; and sisters Elizabeth Jose & Lenora Young Hallmark.

She is survived by her son Galen Johnson and daughter Gwen Krause of Olivia; grandchildren Charles R. Johnson, Ted and Diane Krause, Mark and Cyndi Krause, and Mark and Lauren Howell; great-grandchildren Kevin, William and Robert Krause, Douglas Davey, and Shaughnessy Howell; and sisters Agnes Ballard and Joan Crews.

Her grandsons served as pallbearers.

LUCILLE MELBOURN BOLLING

Graveside services for Lucille Melbourn Bolling, 90, of La Ward, TX, were held Dec. 23, 2007 at the Palacios cemetery with Rev. Andy Blair officiating.

Mrs. Bolling was born April 30, 1917 in Midfield, TX to William Casey Melbourn and Helen Cornelius Melbourn. She died Dec. 21, 2007.

She was member of the First Presbyterian Church of Palacios and was a lifelong Rancher and resident of Matagorda and Jackson counties.

She is survived by her daughter Helen L. Bolling of Ganado; son David R. Bolling, Jr. of La Ward; grandchildren Lucile Wyatt, Randy Bolling, Susan Kopacz, Ryan Bolling, Jack Seaquist, II and Lia Bolling; great-grandchildren Kimberley Escaler, Brandon Griffith, Linden, Sawyer and Chloe Seaquist, and Peyton Bolling; and great-great-grandchild William Escaler.

She was preceded in death by her husband David R. Bolling, Sr.; sons James Thomas Bolling and Richard Truman Bolling; grandson John William Bolling, III; parents William C. and Helen C. Melbourn; and siblings Grace Greenwood, Casper Melbourn, Irene Harrell, Dorothy Shillings and Nonie Henke.

Pallbearers were Ryan Bolling, Jack Seaquist, II, Henry Zarate, Danny Stephens, Joe Schillings and David Frankson. Honorary pallbearer was David Bolling, III.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of South Texas at 605 E. Locust, Victoria, TX 77901 or to your local County Fair Association.

THAI THI NGUYEN

A funeral Mass for Thai Thi Nguyen, 95, of Palacios, was held Dec. 22, 2007 at St. Anthony of Padua Vietnamese Apostolate Church with Father Kho Xuan Mai officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.

Mrs. Nguyen was born June 15, 1912 in Vietnam to Hai Van Nguyen and Hai Thi Nguyen. She died Dec. 16, 2007.

She is survived by her husband Tiem Van Tran of Palacios; daughters Mai Thi Tran, Theu Thi Tran, Voc Thi Tran and Lieu Thi Tran all of Palacios; sons Luu Van Tran and Truyen Van Tran both of Palacios, Thang Van Tran of Victoria and Toan Van Tran of Houston; sister Hoa Thi Nguyen of Vietnam; brother Van Van Nguyen of Texas City; 37 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Her grandchildren served as pallbearers.

JOHN M. OTTINO

Funeral services for John M. Ottino Jr., 54, of Palacios, were held Dec. 21, 2007 at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church with Fr. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.

Mr. Ottino was born Aug. 25, 1953, in Palacios, to the late John M. Ottino Sr. and Eufemia Alvarado Ottino. He passed away Dec. 17, 2007.

He was a self-employed shrimper and a Catholic.

He is survived by his sisters Sylvia Garcia of Palacios, Mary Ottino of Houston, Elvia Araguz of El Campo, and Virginia Davila of Lonewolf, Okla.; and brothers Henry V. Ottino and Carlos Ottino Sr., both of Palacios.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Frances Martinez.

Pallbearers were Henry L. Ottino, Carlos Ottino Jr., Lino Garcia Sr., Joe Rodriguez Jr., Juan Lopez, Frank Castellanos, Justin Rodriguez and Joe G. Pena. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Lucio, Carlos Garcia, Benny DeLeon and Joe Rodriguez.

VICTORIA ‘Nena’ ELENA GOMEZ

A funeral Mass for Victoria “Nena’ Elena Gomez, 3, of Palacios, was held Dec. 19, 2007 at St. Anthony De Padua Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.

Victoria was born July 31, 2004 to Erica Rodriguez and Jose Angel Gomez of Palacios. She died Dec. 15, 2007.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Emilio Alberto Martinez of Houston; grandparents Juanita Ramos, Rosa Gomez Gutierrez and Martin Gomez, all of Palacios; and great-grandparents Conseuelo Solis Bautista and Humberto Bautista of Palacios, Josefina Carmona and Jesus Gutierrez of Mexico City; and Jose Gomez and Angela Cruz of Salvatierra, Guanajuato, Mexico.

Pallbearers were Jose Angel Gomez, Jose Venegas, Jesus Narvaez and Luis Alberto Martinez.

RAMON HARVEY

Funeral services for Ramon Harvey, 83, of Palacios, were held Dec. 17, 2007 at Palacios Funeral Home with Bro. Shan Jackson officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.

Mr. Harvey was born Oct. 31, 1924 in Broadus, Tx. to the late Lydia Belle Sowell and Skillern Harvey. He died Dec. 15, 2007.

He served in the Air Force during WWII and retired from Alcoa after 33 years.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Harvey of Palacios; sons Chris R. Harvey and wife Traci of Palacios, Damon Ray Harvey and wife Veronica of Brazoria, Robin Ray Harvey and Dean Ray Harvey both of Palacios; grandchildren Ashley and Matthew Smith, Riley Nicole Harvey, Travis Spates, and Chelsea and Ethan Adams.

His sons along with Darrell Buckley and Richard Serrata served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Harvey and Jeffie Harvey.

MOLLIE BERNAL ROCHA

Funeral services for Mollie Bernal Rocha, 77, of Palacios, were held Dec. 12, 2007 at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.

Mrs. Rocha was born Feb. 10, 1930 in Palacios to Cresencio Bernal and Lydia Teran Bernal. She died Dec. 6, 2007.

She is survived by her sons Rodolfo Herrera and wife Christie, Daniel Herrera, Sr. and wife Rosie, Jesse Altamira, all of Palacios, and Andrew Altamira and wife Katie of Alabama; daughters Rebecca Buckley and Dolores Arteaga and husband Salvador, Sr. of Palacios; sisters Angela Flores, Toni Delgado, Anita Palacios, Martha Yanes, Rosie Miramontes, Frances Gonzalez and Emilia Clements; grandchildren Dustin Herrera, Michael Herrera, Renae Herrera, Mollie Herrera, Reynaldo Herrera, Jr., Clinton Herrera, Cody S. Herrera, Danielle Brown, Toni Herrera, Daniel Herrera, Jr., Veronica Autry, Isaac Herrera, Kimberly Buckley, Joshua Buckley, Cindy Altamira, Ashley Altamira, Justin Altamira, Salvador Arteaga, Jr., Rudy Arteaga, Guadalupe Arteaga and Tony Arteaga; and by many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Tony Rocha; and sons Raul Herrera and Reynaldo Herrera, Sr.

Pallbearers were Daniel Herrera, Jr., Joshua Buckley, Justin Altamira, Steven Flores, Edward Gomez, Jr. Herman Palacios, Jr., Victor Chavez and Luis Correa. Honorary pallbearers were Dustin Herrera, Michael Herrera, Reynaldo Herrera, Jr., Reynaldo Clinton Herrera, Cody S. Herrera, Isaac Herrera, Salvador Arteaga, Jr., Rudy Arteaga and Tony Arteaga.

LEAMON LEON BULLOCK

Funeral services for Leamon Leon Bullock, 74, of Palacios, TX, were held Dec. 8, 2007 at the First Baptist Church of Palacios with Rev. Dave Gruhn officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery in Blessing.

Mr. Bullock was born Oct. 25, 1933 in Lufkin, TX to Leamon Filmore Bullock and Carnnie Eloise Jones Bullock. He died Dec. 4, 2007 in Victoria, TX.

He was a resident of Palacios since 1960 and a member of the First Baptist Church of Palacios, TX.

Leon retired as an Ag Teacher and Vocational Administrator from the Palacios ISD and was instrumental in the establishment of the Texas State Technical School – Marine Center in Palacios. He also owned and operated Palacios Pest Control since 1968.

He is survived by his daughters Julie Sliva and husband Danny of Blessing and Michele Hubbard and husband Jeremy of Spring; sons David Bullock and wife Shelly of Bay City and William Bullock of Orchard; brothers Waymon Bullock of Etoile, TX and Erwin Leo Bullock of Wayzata, MN; 11 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Roberts Bullock, and by his parents, Leamon F. and Carnnie Eloise Bullock.

Pallbearers were Danny Sliva, Jr., Dustin Sliva, Jeremy Hubbard, Erwin Bullock, Andrew Sliva, Danny Sliva, Sr. and Wayne Hunter.
