RONALD 'SONNY' BRYDSON, JR.

Funeral services for Ronald Brydson, Jr., 78, were held Dec. 22, 2004 at Cook Walden Capital Park cemetery Mauseleum Chapel in Pflugerville, Tx. Known lovingly to family and friends as "Sonny", ¼ he was born on June 6, 1926, in Austin, Texas, to parents Ronald Brydson, Sr. and Sadie Hickman Brydson. He died Dec. 20, 2004. He graduated from Austin High School in 1943. At age 17, Sonny joined the United States Marine Corps. He served in World War II, in the Pacific Corridor and China, and was honorably discharged in 1947. Later that year he became a Master Plumber, and joined his father in their family business, Brydson Plumbing. But he was, at heart, an artist; and has left behind some beautiful oil paintings that are treasured by his wife and children. Sonny married Tosca Reichenau in 1948. Together they had two daughters, Tany Brydson Norwood and Holly Brydson Thompson. He was incredibly proud of his girls, through their childhood, college years at the University of Texas, and professional lives. Sonny was also loved by his grandson, Richard Lee Thompson, and sons-in-law Bob Norwood and Don Thompson. Sonny was widowed in 1984 after Tosca's battle with cancer. Later, Sonny married Christine Wegner, and enjoyed his second family with Chris's children Jimmy Don White, Jr. and Leigh Ann White Ewart. Gandchildren William White, Amanda Ewart, Greg Ewart, Jr., and Kerry Don Ewart grew up with the gentle guiding hand of their "Papaw". Sonny and Chris moved from Austin to Palacios, Texas in 1987, where Sonny continued to work in the plumbing business, including many years of volunteer work at the Matagorda County Birding and Nature Center. Sonny was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer early in 2004, and bravely battled the disease with Chris at his side. When treatment was no longer an option, Sonny and Chris returned to Palacios to enjoy their remaining time together. Chris was a faithful nurse and companion, and Sonny had time to enjoy his friends and family at a meaningful time in his life. Perhaps Sonny will be best remembered by the size of his heart. Everyone he met was a friend, and he was always there to help when they needed him. He loved animals, and the strays he rescued loved him and enriched his life immeasurably. His life was a beautiful mix of contrasts Ñ plumber and artist, soldier and gentle spirit. His passing leaves an empty space in many lives.
