CLYDE NELO SEAMAN

Funeral services Clyde Nelo Seaman, 75, of Palacios, Tx., were held April 11, 2012 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios with Father Brian Heyer and Father Gary Janak officiating. Graveside services were at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing, Tx.

Mr. Seaman was born June 10, 1936, in Bayou LaBatre, Alabama to the late Otis Roy (Tody) and Viola Clyde (Steiner) Seaman. He passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 5, 2012.

Nelo was a commercial fisherman his entire life. His family moved to Palacios in 1945 because the waters were great for shrimp, oysters, and fish. Besides his grandchildren, his pride and joy was the Sea Gull, the boat he inherited which was built by his grandfather in 1926. Nelo used the Sea Gull for commercial fishing until he took a management position at Gold Coast Seafood.

He received the Palacios Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Marine Related Individual award in 1984. He was actively involved in the Matagorda County Marine Advisory Committee serving as chairman from 1977-1986. He received the Service to Seafood Award for his dedicated leadership. As a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios, his family helped with the annual Shrimporee and Blessing of the Fleet. On many occasions, the Sea Gull had the honor of carrying the priest as he blessed the boats.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia Mae Zapalac Seaman; sons and daughters-in-law Garry and Pam Seaman and Greg and Sherri, all of Palacios, and Larry and Dessy Seaman of Conroe; daughter and son-in-law Lauri Ann and Chuck Perrone of Pearland, Tx.; daughter-in-law Becky Seaman Garcia all of Palacios; 11 grandchildren – J.N., J.R., Jennifer, Michael, Matthew, Daphni, Tiffany, Brittany, Kyle, Zachary, and Nicholas; and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived bv numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Nelo was preceded in death by his son Otis Roy; sister Viola Regina; brother William Otis and sister-in-law Thelma.

To know Nelo was to know a compassionate and generous man. He will be missed by so many. Nelo was a true icon in the seafood industry.

Pallbearers were J.N. Seaman, J.R. Seaman, Chris Harvey, Kevin Harvey, Mark Bates, and Rudy Pena.

DEBRA ROSE MEYERS

Debra ‘Debbie’ Rose Meyers 54, of Bonifay, Florida and formerly of Palacios, Tx. went to be with other loved ones at our Father’s Heavenly Home of eternal life with no more pain and suffering on March 31, 2012.

Debbie was born June 14, 1957 in Houston, Tx. to the late Pete and Dorothy Wigginton. She moved to Palacios with her family in the early 1980’s.

She was survived by her husband, Tommy Meyers; son and daughter-in-law Charles and Jessica Martin of Columbia, Mississippi; four grandchildren; her beloved (son-like) chihuahua Booger; her sisters; Carolyn (Earl) White of Palacios and Sandra Swire of Lolita, Tx.; nephews Edward Murphy, Jr, of Colorado, David White and Gary (Christie) White of Palacios, Robert Swire of Iowa and Joseph Swire of Lolita; numerous great-grand nieces and nephews; and other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her brother Edward Louis Murphy, Sr.; niece Annie Mae White; and sisters; Eavalana Diane Murphy and Elizabeth Ann Cowart.

Debbie wished to be cremated and her pending “Celebration of Life” will be announced at a later date when she returns to Texas as she had always planned.

JOSE B. SAINZ

Funeral services for Jose B. Sainz, 91, of Palacios, Tx, were held March 30, 2012 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios. Interment services were held with military honors at the Palacios Cemetary.

Mr. Sainz was born Dec. 18, 1921 to Quirino Sainz and Gabriella Benevides. He went to meet the Lord on March 27, 2012.

He is survived by his four daughters: Erlinda Welch of Amarillo, Tx., Olga Hill of Odessa, Tx., Lucinda Garcia of San Antonio, Tx., and Otilia Vargas of Palacios; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; brother Felix Sainz from Glendale, Az., and sister Rita Sahagian of Fresno, California.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Lucia Garcia Sainz; sons, Joe John Sainz and Albert Sainz; six brothers and three sisters.

Pallbearers were Tyler Sainz, Blake Sainz, Danny Sainz, Ramon Rodriguez, Rogelia Gonzalez and John Lopez.

MARJIE PURSWELL BEASLEY

Graveside services for Marjie Purswell Beasley, 85, of Tyler, Tx., and formerly of Frankston, Tx., were held March 30, 2012 at Harvey cemetery in Broaddus, Tx. with Davy Carter officiating.

Mrs. Beasley was born Oct. 18, 1926 to Herlie and Sallie Purswell in Broaddus. She passed away March 25, 2012 in Tyler. Mrs. Beasley was a homemaker.

Survivors include daughters Karen Powell and husband Russell of Tyler, Terri Chandler and husband Jim of Monmouth, IL, and Susan Cressey of Baycliff; stepsons Robert Beasley of Tyler, Andy Beasley of Tyler, and Johnny Beasley of Rusk; grandchildren Laurie Molina, Amy Webb, Corey Kitchin, April Kitchin and Cress Collins; and sister Donna Rose Luther and husband Charles of Katy.

She was preceded in death by her husband George Beasley, sister Hope Purswell and brother Roddin Purswell.

Services under the direction of Autry Funeral Home in Frankston.

WILBERT HALL THOMAS, JR.

Funeral services for Wilbert Hall Thomas, Jr., 48, of Palacios, Tx., were held March 24, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Palacios, 202 Main St, with Rev. Leroy Monore officiating. Interment was at Corrisville cemetery in Livingston, Tx.

Mr. Thomas was born Jan. 19, 1964 in Beaumont, Tx. to Wilbert H. and Loretta A. Thomas. He joined his heavenly Father on March 15, 2012.

God is building his army and needed a leader, so he chose you and sent his angels to carry you away. Although sudden and unexpected, in our hearts we know you are in a better place.

Wilbert graduated from French High School, Class of 1983. He attended Sam Houston State University where he met his wife, Marilyn Johnson.

He was well known in in Palacios and was known to be a helper to his neighbors and others in the community when they needed it. He served on the volunteer fire department and was a security officer with Sun Set Security.

At an early age he professed his trust in Christ and was baptized at Little Zion Baptist Church in Beaumont. He was a deacon at his church, where he served faithfully under the direction of Rev. Leroy Monroe at New Pilgrim Rose Baptist Church.

He had over 22 years of commercial, residential and industrial experience and owned his own electrician company (Wilbert’s Electric) frequently traveling the world as a proud Certified Master Electrician. He was currently employed with Fomosa Turner Industries and was an oil distributor for AMSOIL. He was also an active motorcyclist member of the Matagorda County Cavalry.

Unforgettable memories of this devoted fun loving husband, father, son, brother, and uncle will be forever cherished by his wife of 24 years, Marilyn F. (Johnson) Thomas; sons, Wilbert H. Thomas, III, Isaiah L. Thomas and Michael G. Thomas all of Palacios; parents, Wilbert H. and Loretta A. Thomas of Humble, Tx.; one sister, Taren C. Thomas of Houston, Tx.; three brothers, Timothy J. Thomas of Beaumont, Texas, Eugene (Kay) Thomas of Little Elm, Tx.and Albert A. Thomas of Austin, Tx.; mother-in-law, Mrs. Addie Mae Johnson; two brothers-in-law, James (Eunice) Johnson, Lorenzo Johnson; three sister-in-laws, Addie Gardner, Anna (Leonard) Young; Faye (Abbie) Barnett; and a host of precious nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who were truly blessed by his time with us.

OLLA MAE LOGAN

Funeral services for Olla Mae Logan, 97, of Blessing, Tx., was held March 21, 2012 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing with Rev. Peter Yeboah-Amanfo officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery.

Mrs. Logan was born Aug. 9, 1914 in El Maton, Tx. to the late A. E. Schulte and Katy Herreth Schulte. She passed away March 17, 2012.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the Cecil Lee American Legion Post 649 Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include son Edwin Logan and his wife Yvonne of Needville, Tx.; niece Patsy Cowger of Markham, Tx.; and nephew James Cowger and wife Joyce of Markham.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A. M. Logan.

Pallbearers were James Cowger, Lee Hall Pierce, Mike Hlozek, Ed Bell, Carlos Galvan and Brad Dumont.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Bay Villa Health Care Center and Dr. Hanna for the care and love shown to Olla Mae.

Memorials may be made to Hawley cemetery Association. P.O. Box 343, Blessing, Tx. 77419.

Arrangements were with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

WILMA BRHLIK SHERRILL

Wilma Brhlik Sherrill, 88, died in Huntsville, Tx., on March 14, 2012. She was born Sept. 18, 1924 in Midfield, Tx., the older of two children of Frank Joseph Brhlik and Violet Aiken Brhlik.

Wilma is survived by her daughter, Anita Jeanne Natale and son in law Dick Natale; granddaughaters Lauren of The Woodlands, Whitney of Houston, and Lindsey Begland and husband Doug of Denver, Co., and 3 great granddaughters; plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wesley Sherrill, son Lawrence Glen Sherrill, and brother Frank P. “Sonny” Brhik.

The funeral service was held March 18, 2012 at Huntsville United Methodist Church and buried next to her husband and son in Oakwood Cemetary in Huntsville, Tx.

LeROY ‘LEE’ BROWN

A Celebration of Life service for LeRoy “Lee” Brown, 78, of Orange, Tx. was held March 13, 2012, at Community Church in Orange. Burial was at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Brown was born June 21, 1933, in Trenton, N.J. to LeRoy Phillips and Rose (Magyar) Brown. He went home to be with the Lord on March 9, 2012 in Beaumont., Tx.

He served honorably in the United States Navy, attended the University of Houston, and 50 years ago in 1962 he founded Brown Hearing Centers which continues to serve the hearing impaired community throughout Texas and Louisiana. An ordained minister of the Gospel, Mr. Brown was a faithful and active member of Community Church and was instrumental in helping establish several different ministries and organizations.

He founded Wisdom Bible Institute, was a member of Fellowship of Companies for Christ, World Ministry Fellowship and founding board member of Orange County Committee on Aging. In 2007, he was named the Orange County Senior Citizen of the Year. He will be remembered for many things including his ability to show others the love that God has for them. Lee was a very generous man who had the heart of a selfless giver and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, fisherman, and fisher of men.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy (Wickham) Brown of Orange; daughter, Belinda Escobedo and husband, Cesar of Edinburg, Tx.; daughter, Brenda Brown of Pharr, Tx.; daughter, Karlene Toohey and husband, Eddie of Orange; daughter, Kimi Cohenour and husband, Jimmy of Palacios, Tx.; daughter, Kelly Ann Scarborough and husband, Randy of Orange; daughter, Kristi Lee Herlacher and husband, Rick of Denton, Tx. and son, David Brown and wife, Sharon of Austin, Tx.. Lee is also survived by twenty-four grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Roger Brown.

The family would like to thank the many friends, caregivers, and loved ones who have extended their loving support and prayers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Church, Missions Department, 3400 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., Orange, TX 77632.
