J. Frank Howard
Funeral Services for J. Frank Howard, 74, will be held Saturday, July, 29, 2000, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fort Worth, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Ed Auger officiating. J. Frank Howard was born in Valley Mills. He passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2000, in Fort Worth. Howard was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II. He entered the U.S. Postal Service in 1948 and completed 43 years of service before retiring from his position as Director of Delivery and Collection. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include daughter Chris Matthy and her mother, Ruby of Fort Worth, and her husband, Rev. Christian P. Matthy of Philadelphia, Pa.; grandchildren, Andrew Christian Matthy and Joanna Christine Matthy; one brother, Melvin Howard of Corpus Christi; and two nieces. Interment icon will be in Greenwood Memorial Park under the direction of Thompson’s Harveson & Cole Funeral Home.

Marlena Sheppard Vick
Funeral services were held for Marlena Sheppard Vick, 67, of Meridian, on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at 2 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Meridian. Vick was born on July 12, 1933, in Morgan, the daughter of the late Irven and Eva Sheppard. She passed away on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, in a Waco hospital. She is a graduate of Meridian High School. She married Carl Vick on Aug. 20, 1949, in Meridian. She was employed by Meridian Hospital for eight years as bookkeeper and office manager. She was an employee of Bosque County Bank 1961 to 1976 as cashier and vice-president, before accepting a position as Bosque County Treasurer. She was County Treasurer for six years. Following that she accepted a position with the Bosque County Appraisal District which she retired from in February 2000. She was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Vick, in 1996. She is survived by her husband, Carl Vick of Meridian; one daughter, Susan Godwin and her husband, Mark, of Saint Jo; two sons, Larry Vick and his wife, Janice, of Waco, and Mark Vick and his wife, Debbie, of Boca Raton, Fla.; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and two sisters. Interment icon was in Meridian cemetery under the direction of Lawson Funeral Home of Meridian.

Naomi Mae Polsley Fisher
Funeral services were held for Naomi Mae Polsley Fisher, 75, on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at Clifton Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Glenn Kramer of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Naomi Mae Polsley was born Feb. 9, 1925, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of Cecil and Florence Penfield Polsley. She passed away at Goodall-Witcher Hospital in Clifton on Nov. 16, 2000. She grew up in California. She married Jean Earl Fisher on May 6, 1946, in Yuma, Ariz. They had five children. They raised their family in Santee, Calif. After retiring the moved to Round Mountain, Calif., Reedsport, Oregon, and then to Clifton. She was a homemaker and a Methodist church secretary for many years. In Clifton, she was secretary for the Clifton Civic Improvement Society and a library volunteer. She enjoyed reading, music, and cooking and was a devoted mother and wife. She had a strong faith in God. She will be remembered as being sweet, kind, loving, and caring. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Florence Polsley; a sister, Ruth Johnson; and a brother, Cecil Polsley, Jr. Survivors include her husband, Jean E. Fisher of Clifton; a daughter, Laurel Brady of Katy; four sons in California, Earl Fisher of Dublin, Chris Fisher of Solana Beach, Daniel Fisher of San Diego, and David Fisher of Perris; one sister, Eileen Day of Clifton; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Interment icon was in Clifton Memorial Park under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.

Betty Jo Ross
Funeral services were held for Betty Jo Ross, 69, of Morgan, on Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at Lawson Funeral Home Chapel in Meridian, with the Rev. Mike Stevens officiating. Betty Jo Ryals was born on Aug. 18, 1931, in Kopperl, the daughter of Johnny W. Ryals and Johnnie B. McBride Ryals. She died on Nov. 19, 2000, in a Temple Hospital. She was united in marriage to Billy Joe Ross in Dallas, on May 17, 1947. She lived and worked in Dallas from 1953 until she retired in 1986, at which time she moved to Morgan. Survivors include her husband, Billy Joe Ross of Morgan; one son, Allen E. Ross of Whitney; two daughters, Dee Clark and husband, Acel, of Morgan, and Linda Barragan of Princeton; 10 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Dickinson of Dallas; and numerous other relatives and friends. Interment icon was in Kimball cemetery near Kopperl under the direction of Lawson Funeral Home of Meridian.

Minnie Louise Sorenson
Funeral services were held for Minnie Louise Sorenson, 86, of Clifton, on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Terry Atkins and Scott Wilcox officiating. Music was provided by organist Wilma Meissner and Hillary Bergman, soloist. Minnie Louise Wiese was born Jan. 17, 1914, in Bosque County, to Carl and Mathilda Wiese. She was united in marriage to Marion Sorenson on Jan. 6, 1935, in Cranfills Gap. She died on Nov. 23, 2000, in Goodall-Witcher Hospital. She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Cranfills Gap. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Sorenson, in 1978, and also by a son, Leroy in 1979; great-grandson, Ross Wilcox; and a great-granddaughter, DeAnn Sorenson. Survivors include two daughters, Mina Bergman and husband, David, of Clifton, and Marynell Murphree and husband, Clinton, of Mesquite; two sons, James Sorenson and wife, Helen of Wichita Falls, and Troy Sorenson and wife, Linda of Meridian; five sisters, Agnis Wiese, Emma Mugge, Ernie Samuelson, and Clara Samuelson, all of Waco, and Ruby McClury of McGregor; 14 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Melvin Bergman, Danny Bergman, James Bergman, Troy Don Sorenson, Todd Sorenson, Lane Sorenson, and Lyndon Carlson. The family requests that memorials be made to the St. Olaf cemetery Association. Interment icon was in St. Olaf cemetery under the direction of Lawson Funeral Home of Meridian.

Hildagard Sommerfeld Zellmer
Funeral services were held for Hildagard Sommerfeld Zellmer, 84, on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at 10 a.m., at Clifton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Rice, of Zion United Church of Christ officiating. Hildagard Sommerfeld was born on Sept. 27, 1916, in Cayote, the daughter of Gus and Betty (Benke) Sommerfeld. She died on Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at Clifton Care Center. She attended Fairview school. She married Otto B. Zellmer on Nov. 21, 1935, and the couple had four children. Zellmer was the owner and operator of Hilda’s Palace. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies’ Auxiliary and American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary. Her hobbies included cooking, baking, sewing, and dancing. She enjoyed visiting family and friends, catering meals, and serving the public. She was well known for making homemade bread. Survivors include her four children, Milton Zellmer of Conroe, Frances Kerby of Waco, David Zellmer of China Spring, and Ron Zellmer of Austin; one brother, one sister, one half-brother, and one half-sister; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers include Rick Ballard, Fritz Case, David Hixon, Richard Mahoney, Kenny Murr, David Murr, David Sartor, Howard Sommerfeld. Interment icon was in Clifton cemetery under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.

David Knust Dahl
Funeral services were held for David Dahl, 69 years 8 months 29 days, of Clifton, on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clifton, with the Rev. Glenn Kramer and the Rev. Charles Rice officiating. Dahl was born Feb. 16, 1931, in Waco, to Bernt (B.I.) and Emma (knust) Dahl. He grew up on the family farm near Clifton with his brother, B.I. Dahl. His grandparents were Peder and Ingeborg Ellingson Dahl and Jo and Ottile Wenzel Knust. He is a great-grandson of Hendrick and Christine Dahl, who were among the early Norwegians who settled in the Norse area. Dahl passed away in Clifton on Monday, Nov. 13, 2000. Dahl spent his entire life on the Dahl family farm in the Womack community. He attended the Womack school through the second grade when he transferred to Clifton. In 1948, he graduated from Clifton High School. During his years at CHS, he was active in the Future Farmers of America programs. He showed hogs at many fairs throughout the state and earned his Lone Star Farmer degree and later was awarded the American Farmer degree. He attended Clifton Junior College for two years, graduating in 1950. Dahl was baptized in Trinity Lutheran Church by Pastor O.T. Boe and faithfully attended Trinity all his life. Through church activities at Trinity, he met Elizabeth Hansen, and they were married at Trinity Lutheran on Oct. 26, 1952, by the Rev. Walter T. Gigstad. Dahl served on the church council, as usher, and in the Sunday School. They were blessed with three children, David Keith, Warren, and Christopher. Dahl worked as a farmer/rancher, he sold and wrote insurance policies for Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association and served as the local chapter secretary. He as been on the Board of Directors of the Childress Creek Water Supply beginning in 1978, and he was serving as its president at the time of his death. Dahl served on the farmer elected governing board of the Farm Service Agency (ASCS) for 39 years. He served 17 years as County Committeeman and 10 years as chairman of the committee. The FSA administers federal farm programs by means of locally elected County Committeeman who were elected by their peers to administer the programs as they apply locally. To be elected and re-elected for this many years, shows the respect with which he was held in by his fellow neighbors and friends as voters, and the integrity Dahl showed as a leader and administrator in his role as County Committeeman. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth of Clifton; sons and families, Keith and Mitzy Dahl of Uncasville, Conn., Warren Dahl of Clifton, and Christopher Dahl and Lola Robinson of Waco; grandchildren, Angela and Jennifer Dahl of Uncasville, Conn.; a brother and sister-in-law, B.I. and Vivian Dahl of Clifton; brothers-in-laws and wives, David and Carolyn Hansen of Clifton, Maynard and Sharon Hansen of McKeesport, Pa., and Esta Hansen of Denton; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces, and host of friends. Pallbearers were Chris Dahl, Ernest Thiele, Clarence Thiele, Chris Hargrove, Gary Arnold, Mark Dahl, Calvin Rueter, and M.G. Bramlett. Honorary pallbearers were Carl Smith Jr., Milton Glenn Dahl Jr., Fred Ludwig, Clyde Seljos, Jake Wimberly, and David Tyssen. Along with their wives, all were members of an 88 Domino Club who played together with David and Elizabeth for over 30 years. Interment icon was in Trinity Lutheran cemetery unde the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.

Ora Ella Carr
Funeral services were held for Ora Ella Carr, 90, of Clifton, on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at 10 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Clifton with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Smith officiating. Ora Ella Gray was born Oct. 11, 1910, in Munday, Texas, the daughter of Jesse and Saphronia Akin Gray. She died on Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at 10:13 a.m., at Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home. She attended Draughon’s Business College from Aug. 15, 1929 to February, 1930. She was a bookkeeper. She married Audry O’Neal Carr in Lubbock, on Sept. 26, 1934. She lived for her family and church and enjoyed her friends. She enjoyed sewing and cooking. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clifton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Audry Carr who died on Jan. 30, 1980, and a great-granddaughter, Brandy Rutledge who died Jan. 6, 1997. Survivors include her son, Donald Carr and his wife, JoAnn Carr of Buffalo; two grandchildren, Justine Rutledge of Centerville and Justine Rutledge of Buffalo; and five great-grandchildren, Brandon, Brian, and Brittney Rutledge of Centerville, and Kimberly and Alaina Carr of Buffalo. Pallbearers were Terry Spicer, Emil Schwartz, Abbie Abercrombie, Bob Pack, Fred Low, and Jerry Wall. Honorary pallbearers were Deacons of First Baptist Church. Interment icon was in Clifton cemetery under the direction of the Clifton Funeral Home.

Myrtle Leona Lundberg Parker
Funeral services were held for Myrtle Leona Lundberg Parker, 89, of Meridian, on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Creech officiating. Myrtle Leona Lundberg was born Aug. 21, 1911, in the Pikesville area of Bosque County near Iredell, the daughter of the late Fred G. and Ragna Olson Lundberg. She passed away on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at the Goodall-Witcher Hospital in Clifton. She was raised and educated in Iredell, where she worked in the Iredell State Bank, holding several positions. She later moved to Fort Worth where she worked with what is now, L.T.V. She was married to Melvin Curtis Parker on Dec. 23, 1933. They resided at Flat Top Ranch. The couple had two daughters, Joan Lundburg McGinnis and Linda Lou Lane. She was a member of the Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Curtis Parker who died April 7, 1949, and daughter, Linda Lou Lane, who died in 1963. Survivors include her daughter, Joan McGinnis of Meridian; four grandchildren, Glenn Cunningham of Clifton, David Lane of Waco, Jody Lane of Meridian, and Mistie Flatt of Meridian; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Ola Stapp, Lola White, Alice Warren, all of Meridian; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. Pallbearers included Vonnie Glenn, Kenneth Lundberg, Donald Lundberg, Ruben Warren, Billy Jones, Michael Williamson, David Flatt, and Chuck Rice Jr. Interment icon was in the Mitchell cemetery at Iredell under the direction fo Lawson Funeral Home of Meridian.
