Olena Grace Townley Nuckols
Funeral services were held for Olena Grace Townley Nuckols, 85, of Clifton, on Sunday, April 6, 2003, at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Tom Beaty officiating. Olena Townley was born on Nov. 4, 1917, in Clifton, to Daisy Virginia Brewer Townley and James Walter Townley. She passed away on April 3, 2003, in Fort Worth. She graduated from Clifton High School in 1935 and from Texas Women’s University in 1937. On July 3, 1938, she married William D. Nuckols in Clifton. The couple had two children, Virgina Sue and James William Nuckols. They lived in Fort Worth and Clifton throughout their marriage. She was a housewife and a member of First United Methodist Church of Clifton. Survivors include her husband, William Denzil Nuckols; children, Virginia Sue Zwick of Fort Worth and James William Nuckols of Longview; grandchildren, Brian Keith Zwick and Justin Cody Zwick of Fort Worth, David Nuckols and Janet Nuckols of Longview; sister, Ruth Berry of Irving; and brother, Paul Townley of Kerrville. Interment icon was in Clifton cemetery under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.

John Herman Rogstad
Funeral services were held for John Herman Rogstad, 101, on Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Highway Chapel in Dallas. Rogstad was born on Jan. 6, 1902, in Cranfills Gap to Thomas and Martha Rogstad. He passed away on April 6, 2003, in Plano. Rogstad was a graduate of Clifton College, and later became the owner of East Grand Automative. He was a long-time member of Central Lutheran Church, and enjoyed bowling and playing golf, which he pursued well into his 90s. Rogstad was also an avid violin player and played with a group at Highland Park United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Hoel Rogstad, and daughter, Gail Rogstad Beckham. Survivors include wife, Zula Campagna Rogstad; daughter, Nancy Felix and husband, Leonard Felix; son-in-law, Patrick Beckham; grandchildren Bradley Beckham, Andrea Beckham, Gregory Beckham, and Mark Felix; and one great grandchild. Memorials may be made to the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home. Internment was at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas.

Herbert Schraeder
Funeral services were held for Herbert Schraeder, 89, of McGregor, on Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Zion Lutheran Church of McGregor, with Pastor Charles Parnell officiating. Schraeder was born on May 24, 1913, in Bosque County, the son of the late Otto and Sada Henrietta Richter Schraeder. He passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2003. He was reared in Crawford and the Prairie Chapel community and attended school at Prairie Chapel. On Oct. 2, 1935, he married Hattie Louise Pieper at St. John Lutheran Church in Coryell City. She preceded him in death on June 19, 1999. Schraeder farmed in the Crawford and Oglesby areas. In 1935, he moved to Crawford where he lived until moving to oglesby in 1948. In 1958, he left Oglesby and moved to McGregor. For several years, McGregor and Midway Independent School Districts employed him as custodian. A member of Zion Lutheran Church, he served as an usher, funeral usher, and in earlier years, was a member of the stewardship committee. A son, Glen Dale Schraeder; two brothers, Lonnie and Ed Schraeder; and a sister Meta Reich also preceded him in death. Survivors include two sons, Ray Schraeder of McGregor and Bernie Schraeder of Oglesby; one brother, Herman Schraeder of Fort Worth; one sister, Ella Stokes of Meridian; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Bill Holmes, Raymond Reich, Marvin Reich, Billy Schraeder, Charles Schraeder, and Marty Schraeder. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 1125 West Sixth St., McGregor 76657, or McGregor Ambulance Service, in care of Frances Hudson, 311 South Adams, McGregor 76657. Interment icon was in St. Paul Memorial Park in Crawford, under the direction of Cole Funeral Home of McGregor.

Seth Lamar Witcher
A celebration of the life of Dr. Seth Lamar Witcher was held Friday, April 4, 2003, at First Baptist Church in Clifton, Dr. Jerry Smith officiating. Interment icon followed in Clifton cemetery. Dr. Witcher, 93, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, in Clifton. He was born in Copperas Cove on March 24, 1910, to John Melville and Rachel Albertson Witcher. He grew up in Gatesville, where his father was a schoolteacher and administrator. After graduation from Gatesville High School, he attended Baylor University, working his way through while playing football and basketball. In 1931 he received his B.A. Degree cum laude while receiving letters in football and basketball all four years. He was nominated for the All Southwest Conference football team in his senior year, and played in the Dixie Classic football game in Dallas on New Year’s Day 1931. The game was the forerunner to the Cotton Bowl. From Baylor, Witcher went to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He graduated in 1935, second-highest in his class. He was a member of the Phi Chi medical fraternity and Alpha Omega Alpha honor fraternity. On June 29, 1935, he married Sue Goodall, daughter of the late Dr. Claude L. Goodall, a noted surgeon in Valley Mills and Waco, and daughter of the late Willie McNeill Goodall. He served for one year as an instructor in the Anatomy department at the University of Texas Medical Branch and remained in Galveston for the next year to serve his internship at John Sealy Hospital. He then practiced two years at the Stephenville Hospital and Clinic. In the spring of 1939, the Witchers became partners with Sue’s cousin, Dr. Van Doren Goodall and his wife, Valorie Shaw Goodall, and established a 10-bed hospital and clinic in Clifton. The hospital opened Sept. 17, 1939, and continues to serve the citizens of Clifton and surrounding areas. During World War II, Dr. Witcher spent 3½ years in the Army Air Force, three of which were spent at the Hondo navigation School, serving as chief of surgery. He was then assigned to the urological service of the surgery department at the San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center. During his time in the military, he would return to Clifton on weekends and perform surgery. Dr. Witcher was a member of the Bosque-Hamilton County Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association, the American Medical Association, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a founding member of the Southwest Surgical Congress and the Journal Club of Waco. He served on the Clifton City Council, including one term as mayor. He was a member of the Clifton Independent School District Board of Trustees from 1953 until 1968, and was president of the board from 1961 until he retired from the board. He served as a member of the Board of Deacons at First Baptist Church of Clifton from 1952 to the present. Dr. Witcher was also a lifetime member of the Clifton Lions Club, receiving his 60-year pin. He was a member of the Clifton Chamber of Commerce, a life member of the Bosque County Conservatory of Fine Arts, and a charter member of the President’s Club of Baylor University. He and his wife were honored in 1991 by the Bosque Memorial Museum with its Heritage Award for outstanding community service. Baylor University honored him in 1974 with induction into the Baylor University Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a lifetime supporter of Baylor University. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Melville and Rachel Albertson Witcher, and by a brother, John Maury Witcher. Dr. Witcher is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sue Goodall Witcher of Clifton; a daughter, Susan Goodall Witcher Thomas and husband Ronny G. Thomas of Corpus Christi; a son, Seth Lamar Witcher, Jr. DDS and wife Jane Keath Witcher of Dallas; a granddaughter, Jennifer Keath Witcher of Dallas; three grandsons, David Seth Thomas and wife Michelle Thomas of Corpus Christi, Robert Gene Thomas of Waco, and Seth Lamar Witcher III of Waco; a great-grandson, Hayden Vern Thomas of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Jewell Witcher Stiver of Waco, and Mildred Witcher Dail of Eden; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Pallbearers were Seth L. Witcher III, David Seth Thomas, Robert Gene Thomas, Mikel Dail, David Stiver, Maury Stiver, and Van Doren Goodall Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Sid Jones, Dr. Bill Key, Dr. Bill Henderson, Dr. Wiseman Holder, Dr. Don Gloff, and the physicians and staff of Goodall-Witcher Healthcare Foundation. The family requests that memorials to honor Dr. Witcher be made to the Goodall-Witcher Healthcare Foundation. Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Alma Marie Erickson Aars
Funeral services were held for Alma Marie Erickson Aars, 90, on Sunday, March 16, 2003, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clifton, officiated by the Rev. Glenn Kramer, with organist Martha Erickson and usher Jean Pierson. Alma Marie Erickson was born in Bosque County on June 11, 1912, to Emil and Cecelia Hanson Erickson. She passed away on March 14, 2003. She graduated from Clifton High School on May 29, 1931. She attended Clifton College for a time, but did not get to finish because of illness. She did get a diploma in music. She married Ervin Aars in March 1935, at Glen Rose. They were married by a Baptist preacher. She joined Trinity Lutheran Church on Nov. 26, 1944, and has been an active member ever since. She was a member of the Ester Circle of the Women of ELCA. As a farm housewife, she enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking, music, and playing piano and taking care of the family. She was devout to her faith and desired to live a Christian life. She read her Bible every day up until her last five days on this earth. She loved all the books of the Bible, but her favorite books were Proverbs and Revelation My mother always looked forward to being with her nieces and nephews during the holidays, said her son, Elvis. She loved to get company. She never complained and was always happy with what she had. I will miss my mother very much. I was very blessed to have had a Christian mother. I will miss her. But with God’s help and with Jesus with me every day I will always remember my mother and what she taught me about life. That a life lived for Jesus Christ would be a life not lived in vain. The hymn, Blessed Assurance, is a story and the kind of life my mother lived. Pallbearers were Vernon Erickson, John Erickson, Charles Jorgenson, Mike Humphries, Brett Amundson, all of Clifton, and Vernon Amundson of White Oak. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin, on June 15, 1979, and four brothers. Survivors include her son, Elvis, along with nieces and nephews and their families. Interment icon was in Norse cemetery under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.

Janice Heath Dugan
Funeral service were held for Janice Heath Dugan, 61, on Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Meridian with Rev. Richard Creech officiating. Dugan was born on Sept. 27, 1941, in Waco. She passed away on Friday, March 21, 2003. Dugan worked for In-Home Child Care for 12 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Ted Heath. Dugan is survived by her husband, Hugh S. Dugan; her three children, Scott Dugan and his wife, Karen, of Plano, Heath Dugan of Coppell, and Amy D. Slaton and her husband, Andrew J., of Irving; her mother, Martha Speegle Heath of Meridian; her sister, Joyce McDowell and her husband, Gerald, of Clifton; her two brothers, Jimmy Heath and his wife, Judy, of Allen, and John Heath and his wife, Carol, of Carrolton; and four grandsons, Brent, Hunter, Matt, and Troy. Pallbearers were T.J. Heath, Brian Heath, Steven Butler, Jim Heath, John Heath, Jason Bowers, and John VonRunnen. Internment was at Valley Mills cemetery, under the direction of Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian.

Prentiss Franklin (Bud) Fowler
Memorial services were held for Prentiss F. (Bud) Fowler on March 19, 2003, in the chapel at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell, Texas, with Rev. Tom Beaty officiating. Fowler was born on Jan. 22, 1941, in Winfield, Ala., to Troy and Mary Virginia Mann Fowler. He passed away on March 16, 2003, at his home in Clifton. Fowler was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clifton. After 25 years in the oil field service industry, he retired as a supervisor with BJ Services and The Western Company of North America. Having been raised on a cotton farm in southeastern Missouri, he enjoyed living in the country, gardening, fishing and woodworking. He was a quiet man of integrity, and will be missed by all of those who loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Marie Faircloth, and brother, Bill Fowler. Fowler is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Jean Dlabay Fowler; two children, Stephanie Layne Calcote of Bedford, and Matthew Franklin Fowler and his wife, Donna, of Glen Rose; five grandsons, Austen and Alex Calcote, and Nicolas, Nolan, and Justin Fowler; three brothers, Edell Fowler and his wife, Juanita, of Palmdale, California, Durell Fowler and his wife, Helen, of Portageville, Missouri, Rondal Fowler and his wife, Sue, of League City; four sisters, Christine Lee, Cherry Travelstead and her husband, Leonard, of Bryan, Imogene Dyer and her husband, Steve, of Carthage, and Barbara Blanchard and her husband, Johnny, of Long Branch. Internment was at the S.P.J.S.T., San Antonio Prairie cemetery outside of Caldwell.

Will Krueger, Jr.
Funeral Services for Will Krueger, Jr., 80, of Clifton were held Thursday, March 20, 2003, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev. Glen Kramer and Chaplain Pat Dietrich officiating. Krueger was born on March 4, 1923, in Valley Mills to Will Krueger, Sr., and Hildagard (Rachuig) Krueger. He passed away Monday, March 17, 2003, in Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home. After graduating from Clifton High School and Clifton Junior College, Krueger joined the Merchant Marines, earning the rank of Lieutenant. At the end of World War II, he entered Texas Tech in Lubbock, graduating in 1950. He returned to Clifton and engaged in farming and ranching. He married Mary Dunagin Hoff in 1958. Krueger held numerous offices at Trinity Lutheran Church. He served 11 years on the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home board, and 45 years as an agent for Germania Insurance Company. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepson Mike Hoff. Survivors include his wife, Mary; a daughter, Julie; a stepson, Max Hoff; a daughter-in-law, Linda Hoff; four grandsons, Brandon Hoff, Noel Hoff, Ashley Hoff, and Jason Crow; and a sister, Dorothy, and her husband, Hans Mansur. Pallbearers were B.I. Dahl, Jason Crow, Bob Johnson, Eldon Zimmerman, Eddie Rosenquist, and Larry Huse. Internment was in Trinity Lutheran cemetery.
