Herman Neel
Interment for Herman Neel, 67, of Nipomo, Calif. and formerly of Laguna Park, were held Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at Wood’s cemetery. Neel died Oct. 21, 2003, in a Santa Maria, Calif., hospital. He was born Aug. 11, 1936, in Lubbock. He graduated high school in Ysleta, then graduated from Hobart Tech in Troy, Ohio, in 1961. He served eight years in the Texas National Guard Unit 136AAA. After leaving the Guard, he returned to school and became a helicopter repairman, serving three tours in Viet Nam and one each in Alaska, Greenland, and Iceland. In 1975, he returned to the pipe trades, and retired in 2001. He had been a member of Coon Creek Methodist Church in Bosque County. Neel was preceded in death by his parents, Oran and Sidney Neel. He is survived by his sister, Oarnaell and husband Wayne Kingsbury of Arizona; and brother John and wife Diane of Nipomo, Calif. Scott’s Funeral Home, Gatesville, was in charge of arrangements.

Jon Frank Henderson
A memorial service for Jon Frank Henderson, 63, of Meridian, was held Tuesday, March 9, 2004, in the Meridian High School Gymnasium, with the Rev. Richard Creech and the Rev. Bill Schibler officiating. Interment icon followed at Boggy cemetery, near Cranfills Gap. Henderson died Saturday, March 6, 2004, at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He was born Feb. 9, 1941, in Cranfills Gap. He graduated from Cranfills Gap School in 1959. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M; in 1965, and his Master of Science from Tarleton State University in 1976. He wore his Aggie ring with pride. Henderson was an accomplished educator, a ranger, and an enthusiastic white-tail deer manager. He was a founding member of the Texas Deer Association. Family members said he rejoiced in his God-given talents, blessing everyone with a beautiful voice, with his probing questions, and his forward thinking. He loved his Lord, his family, his friends, his students, and his life. He showed this love by the way he lived every single day. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.E. (Dink) and Nona Henderson. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara Henderson; son Jon Michael Henderson; brothers Mac Emmitt Henderson of Oregon, Billy Jack and wife Genie Henderson of Meridian, and Thomas Wesley and wife Dana of Clifton; and by his beloved nephews, nieces, in-laws, friends, and colleagues. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, Henderson’s memory can best be honored by sending a generous cash gift to a deserving college student in Henderson’s name because that is what he loved to do. Pallbearers were Harold McCreary, David Winkler, Alan Day, Guy Finstad, Mike Williams, and Mark Williamson. Honorary pallbearers were Ray Murski, Tom Buxton, Harry Blue, Cecil Wimberly, Wayne Garner, and Mike Gann. Lawson Funeral Home, Meridian, was in charge of arrangements.

Bud Henry Driver
Funeral services were held for Bud Henry Driver, 90, on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at Lacy Funeral Home in Stephenville with the Rev. Keith Coleman of Granbury and the Rev. Mark Nelson of Clifton officiating. Driver was born on Dec. 22, 1913, in Erath County, near Duffau to Henry and Bluffie Hollis Driver. He passed away on Feb. 21, 2004, at his Stephenville residence. Driver attended public school in Erath and Hardeman counties. He married Hazel English on Aug. 14, 1936, in Glen Rose. He lived in Erath County; Farley, N.M.; and Johnson County. His occupations included farmer, plumber, and a worker for the Cleburne Independent School District. Driver was affiliated with the Valley Grove Baptist Church in Stephenville. Those commenting on his life and character say he was a quiet, fun-loving man who enjoyed gardening, his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Hazel; children, Bud Driver, Jr., of Australia, Nancy Kleibrink of Clifton, Sue Hamker of Wichita, Kan.; sister, Nora Tindall of Alvarado; nine grandchildren, Kristin Colman and her husband, Keith, of Granbury, Kevon Kleibrink and his wife, Lori, Calli Nelson and her husband, Mark, all of Clifton; Cam Kleibrink and his wife, Delese of Eden; Suzie Hower and husband, John, of Olathe, Kan.; Julie Hamker of Wichita, Kan.; Doug Hamker of Portland, Ore.; Jim Driver of Mont.; Dave Driver of London, England; and nine great-grandchildren. Pallbearers included grandsons Cam Kleibrink, Kevon Kleibrink, Jim Driver, Dave Driver, Bill Sharp, and Buddie Lasater. Soloist was Calli Nelson. Internment was held at West End cemetery in Stephenville under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.

Samuel Kettler
Funeral services for Samuel Thomas Kettler, 6, of Coryell City, were held Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at St. John Lutheran Church in Coryell City. Interment icon followed at St. John Lutheran Church cemetery. Kettler died Saturday, March 6, 2004. He was born March 30, 1997, in Clifton, to Shawn and Suzanne Pruitt Kettler. He was a first-grader at Gatesville Primary School. Kettler was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church on March 10, 2001, by the Rev. Charles Brinkmeyer. He was a member of Hay Valley 4-H, and loved playing baseball and soccer. A family member said Sam was full of life and love, and was loved greatly by his family and all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenneth Kettler and Donald and Margie Pruitt. Kettler is survived by his parents, Shawn and Suzanne Kettler of Coryell City; sister Laramie Kettler of Coryell City; grandmother Dodie Kettler of Coryell City; great-grandmother Almiria Dickie of Coryell City; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Gatesville Primary School Library, the Gatesville Public Library, or the Gatesville Baseball Complex. Gatesville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Edith Orelia Tindall
Funeral services for Edith Orelia Tindall, 100, of Clifton, were held Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home Chapel, Chaplain Art Goetz officiating. Interment icon followed in Boggy cemetery. Tindall died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004. She was born April 21, 1903, in Hamilton County, to Andrew and Theresa Grimland. She was baptized May 21, 1903, in the Rock Church, by the Rev. G.G. Odegand, and was a member of the first confirmation class held in the newer St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Cranfills Gap, being confirmed by the Rev. H.W. Estrem on June 21, 1918. She graduated from Cranfills Gap High School in May 1920. On Nov. 11, 1922, she married William Clyde Tindall. They lived their entire married life in Cranfills Gap. Tindall had been a resident of Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home the past 14 years. Her hobbies included watching sports (particularly the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers), reading, and writing. Tindall was preceded in death by her parents; seven siblings; her husband; two sons, William Clyde (Bill) Tindall, Jr., and Rex Pendleton Tindall; daughter-in-law Pinky Tindall; and her only granddaughter, Vicky Lynn Tindall. She is survived by son Ralph Kenneth and wife Peg Tindall of Hondo; grandson Timothy Trae Tindall of Houston; great-grandson Joseph Tindall of College Station; daughter-in-law Shirley Nelson of College Station; and a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Viola Pollei Gottschalk
Funeral services for Viola Pollei Gottschalk, 89, of Clifton, were held Monday, March 1, 2004, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home, Temple, with Father Larry of St. Luke Church of Temple and Pastor Pat Dietrich of First Lutheran Church of Temple officiating. Interment icon followed at Calvary Hill Mausoleum in Dallas. Gottschalk died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at Goodall-Witcher Hospital in Clifton. She was born March 10, 1914, in Meeks, to the late Ernest and Ella Lange Pollei. She attended Barclay schools from grades one through 12. After graduation, she enrolled in business school, and then in mortuary school in Dallas. On Jan. 11, 1939, she married Raymond Gottschalk in Temple. The couple were married 62 years when he died April 12, 2001, at Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home. The couple lived in Dallas from 1940 to 1982, and in Temple from 1982 to 2001. They moved to CLSH in 2001, remaining there until their deaths. She was a funeral director for Campbell Funeral Home in Dallas for 34 years, serving the Dallas community until her retirement. She was a member of the Catholic Church. Gottschalk enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers. She worked hard, kept a home where all were welcome, and was faithful to her church. Gottschalk is survived by three brothers, Edmund Pollei of Clifton, Lee and wife Jackie Pollei of Mabank, and James and wife Jo Pollei of Gun Barrel City; sisters-in-law Margaret and husband Fritz Helpert, and Lydia Chaney; brother-in-law Pat and wife Gladys Gottschalk; nice Barbara and husband Jerry Anderson of Clifton; and other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Marshal Esteen Mitchell
Funeral services were held for Marshal Esteen Mitchell, 91, on Monday, May 10, 2004, at First Baptist Church in Clifton with the Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. Mitchell, one of four sons to D.C. and Minta Mae Riddle Mitchell, was born on Aug. 18, 1912, in the community of Mosheim. He passed away on Friday, May 7, 2004. Mitchell grew up in Mosheim and accpeted the Lord in the Mosheim Baptist Church in 1925 and was baptised there. He graduated from Mosheim HIgh School He married Charline Cummings on March 19, 1938, in Gatesville. The couple made their home in Mosheim where Mitchell continued to farm and ranch. He also worked through the years at the munitions plnt in McGrego and in Weatherford. He worked for 25 years at the General Tire and Rubber Company in Waco as an Industrial Mechanic. During these years in Mosheim, the couple had two sons, Charles and John Marshal In 1974, the couple built a new home in Clifton and become a part of the community. They still kept their ties in the Mosheim Community where they were vitally active in the Mosheim Baptist Church. Mitchell served as one of the trustees for the Mosheim Community Center and the Water Supply Company of Mosheim. Mitchell was also one of the leaders in the annual chili supper for the community center in Mosheim. He was dually aligned with the Valley Mills Masonic Lodge and the Clifton Masonic Lodge. He was an active member of the Clifton Lions Club and served in a variety of capacities through the years from director to lion tamer. In 1982, the Mitchells were awarded the Family Heritage Certificate by the State of Texas for keeping in operation a family farm that has been passed down through the generations. They were honored this past year for their long years of service to the Mosheim Baptist Church and the Mosheim community. Mitchell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clifton at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; his wife; and grandson, Jeremy. Survivors include his two sons, Charles Mitchell and his wife, Mary, of Beaumont and John Marshal Mitchell and his wife, Vickie of Mosheim; two grandchildren, Meagan Bernard and her husband, David, of Beaumont and Jeffrey Mitchel of Austin; and one great-grandson, Gage Bernard of Beaumont. Memorials can be made to Mosheim Community Center, 10550 FM 215 Valley Mills, Texas 76689. Interment icon was at Valley Mills cemetery under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home of Clifton.

Warren Blake Lambert
Graveside funeral services for Warren Blake Lambert, 42, of Colorado and formerly of Aquilla, were held Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Scott’s Chapel cemetery in Aquilla, with Glenn Gray officiating. Lambert died Friday, May 28, 2004, in Colorado. He was born May 27, 1962, in Clifton, the son of Marvin and Virginia (Allen) Lambert. He grew up in Aquilla, and graduated from Aquilla High School. He attended Hill Junior College and Texas State Technical College. He was an auto mechanic by trade, and was a member of the Church of Christ. Lambert was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Lambert, and his brother, Ernie Lambert. He is survived by his mother, Virginia Lambert of Whitney; children Angela Jean and John Blake Lambert of Laguna Park; brother Tony Lambert of Aquilla; and sisters Shirley White of Groesbeck and Vivian Pendergrass of Lake Stephens, Wash. Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors, Whitney, was in charge of arrangements.

Perney Allen Chaney
Funeral services were held for Perney Allen Chaney, 81, on Monday, May 24, 2004, at Grand Old Gospel Lighthouse in Clifton with the Rev. Ron Roberts officiating. Chaney was born on Sept. 19, 1922, in Comanche to Allen W. and Irea (Jamar) Chaney-Hammond. He passed away on May 21, 2004, at Scott & White Hospital in Temple. In his last hours, he was surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Chaney served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 493rd Enginner (Heavy Shop) on the Island of New Caledonia in the Asiatic Pacific. While in the military, he obtained the rank of Technician 5. His decorations include the Asiatic Pacific Service ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal. Chaney also worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Arizona and Montana and the Santa Fe Railroad in the Mills County area. He was self-employed for a time and worked for Chemical Lime in Clifton before retiring. On Nov. 16, 1946, he married Nancy Elizabeth Pierce. The couple lived in Comanche, Midland, San Saba, Goldthwaite, Meridian, and Clifton. In his retirement, Chaney enjoyed spending time with his family, as well as fishing and playing dominos. He always enjoyed telling stories to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren about his younger days and fishing trips. Chaney was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church and a life member of the Robert E. Binford VFW Post #8553 in Clifton. Adored husband, beloved father, loving father-in-law, cherished grandfather, and great friend-these are the ways that Perney Allen Chaney will always be remembered by his family and friends. We love you, babe! He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Charlene Tigner; and five step-brothers. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Chaney; children, Douglas Allen Chaney and his wife, Martha, of Cranfills Gap; Gordon Dwight Chaney and his wife, Marge, of Copperas Cove; Marsha Evans and her husband, Curtis, of Cranfills Gap; Kelly Mahoney and her husband, Richard, of Clifton; grandchildren, Allen Evans and his wife, Rayleen, of Speegleville, Michael Evans of Waco; Richard Allen Chaney of Corsicana; Jeremy Barree of Clifton; Nancy Truitt and her husband, Eddie, of Moss Point, Miss.; Ralisa Randall and her husband, Ron, of Goodyear, Ariz.; Karen Denise Chaney, and Robbie Kessler of Waco; Elizabeth Brown and her husband, Mike, of Tyler; Chrissy McCourt and husband, Eric, of Clifton; Angela Evans of Brownwood and Rebecca Mahoney of Clifton; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Nell Walk and her husband, Ora, of Dallas; and brother Aloyn (Jack) Chaney of Mullin. Memorials can be made to Grace Memorial Baptist Church, Clifton or to the Military Order of the Purple Heart at 1421 CR 4145, Cranfills Gap, TX 76637. Interment icon was held at Clifton cemetery with full military honors provided by the VFW and American Legion. Arrangements were made through Clifton Funeral Home of Clifton.
