Jack ‘Pinkie’ Sadler
Jack “Pinkie” Sadler, 95, of Valley Mills, passed away Sept. 9, in a Valley Mills Nursing Home. Funeral services were held Saturday morning, Sept. 16, at the First Baptist Church. Interment icon was in the Hillcrest cemetery. Sadler was born in Valley Mills, on April 7, 1911, to Logan and Nancy Sadler, the youngest of nine children. In March 31, 1936, he married Oma McLennan. They were happily married for 63 years and had eight children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Oma; a daughter, Mary Hairston; and two sons, Homer and Jack. Sadler leaves five children to cherish his memory. Those include two daughters, Leoma (Benton) Hemphill of Waco, and Diane (her late husband, Ira) Diggs of Austin; three sons, Larry (Ocie) Sadler, Freddy (Arlene) Sadler, and Billy (Mattie) Sadler, all of Valley Mills; a devoted God daughter, Sharon Anderson; a host of grand, great, and great-great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services were under the direction of Foss Funeral Home.

Ronald ‘Ron’ Dorsey
Ronald “Ron” Dorsey, 57, of Graham passed away Sunday, Sept. 17, at Graham Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Morrison Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Finfrock, pastor of Oak Street Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Pioneer cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home. Dorsey was born Jan. 2, 1949 in Dallas, to the late Ernest E. and Iona Mae (Caddell) Dorsey. He married Carla Johnston on Dec. 17, 1999 in Graham. He was a member of the Clifton Masonic Lodge # 360 for 27 years and Oak Street Baptist Church. He was a sales representative for Yamaha Boat Motors USA. He is survived by his wife, Carla Dorsey of Graham; daughter, Lisa Dromgoole of Ridgecrest, Calif.; son, Micheal Dorsey of Laguna Park; step-daughter, Lisa Tatom of Odessa; grandchildren, Sydney Dorsey and Logan Tatom. Memorials may be made to Mary Crowley Cancer Research at Baylor Hospital of Dallas, 3600 Gaston Ave. Suite 100 Dallas, Texas 75242.

Marilyn Gayle Garland
Funeral services for Marilyn Gayle Garland, 72, of Waco, were held on Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Memorial Methodist Church in Walnut Springs. She passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 12, in Waco. Garland was born Oct. 14, 1933, in Cranfills Gap, to Orville H. and Udie Leeth Reesing. She graduated from Walnut Springs High School as valedictorian, and later graduated from Providence Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. She married S. Sgt. Frank Garland on Oct. 27, 1962. Garland was office nurse for Dr. H.F. Connally, Jr., for five years, then working at the Waco V.A. Hospital and later at Providence Hospital. She received her certification in psychiatric nursing in 1988. She was Employee of the Year at DePaul Center in 1991, and retired from Providence Hospital and DePaul Center after 22 years of service. She was very active in her children’s schools, including Meadowbrook Elementary, Sui Ross 6th Grade Center, South Junior High School, University Junior High School, and University High School. She especially enjoyed being Room Mother Chairman. Garland was a Brownie Girl Scout Leader for many years. She was president of the Providence Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association, and a charter member of the Beverly Hills Senior Citizens Group. Garland was preceded in death by her husband, on May 14, 1971; her parents; and her sister, Jenny Reesing Thomas. She is survived by her son, Frank Reese Garland of Austin; a daughter, Mary Ellen Garland Thompson, and beloved son-in-law, Jeffrey Thompson; three grandsons, Nathan, Matthew, and Christopher Thompson of Pflugerville, who, according to those who knew her, said have been the light of her life; one brother, Orville R. “Roddy” Reesing; brother-in-law, John P. Thomas; one aunt, Verna Lee Jones of Clifton; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. The family expressed a special thanks to Mickey LaDuke, Becky Rodgers, and Sarah Sartor for their friendship and acts of kindness. Pallbearers included John R. Thomas, Ben Thomas, Larry Decker, James Reesing, John P. Parker, James Rodgers, Matthew Rodgers, and David Brooks. Honorary pallbearers include Alvin Rodgers, Dr. Rodney Brown, Dr. Mark, Dr. Morris, Dr. McCarthy. Memorial contributions should go to Cogdell Memorial United Methodist Church or Providence Hospice. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Lawson Funeral Home.

Lillian Irene Langston
Funeral services for Lillian Irene Langston, 95, were held at Clifton Church of Christ, on Friday, Sept. 15, with Rev. Matthew Martin officiating. Langston passed away on Sept. 11, in Clifton. She was interred at the Clifton cemetery. Langston was born Lillian Irene Cohen on April 27, 1911, in Riesel, to Frank and Carrie Cohen (Pleasants). She graduated from North Side High School in Fort Worth in 1929. On Aug. 9, 1931, she married Curtis Nelson Langston, in Ardmore, Okla., and the couple had two children. She was a resident of Clifton since 1970, living in Dallas prior to that since 1946. She was a housewife and a secretary and affiliated with Clifton Church of Christ. Those who knew her said that she was one of high moral scruples. Langston was preceded in death by her husband Curtis in 1995; and by her son Larry in 2002. She is survived by Rod (Lura) Langston and his children, Kirk, Kelly, Lanny, Anna, and Danielle; Patty Langston, daughter-in-law; and children Burt, Laura, and Lou; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Estelle Hill and Ruth Cohen; and special friend Gerry Swift, to whom she was always “Mom.” Pallbearers included Burt Langston, Kirk Langston, Jerry Hill, and Chris Sodolok. Funeral services were under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.

Jewel M. Norris Orbeck
Funeral services were held for Jewel M. Norris Orbeck, 78, on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Pastor Harold Meissner officiating. Graveside services followed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in the Norse Community. Orbeck passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, Sept. 17. Born Sept. 29, 1927, in the Norse Community near Clifton, to the late Colonel and Ora Lambert, Orbeck attended Turkey Creek School during her elementary years and later graduated from Clifton High School in 1945. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in the Norse Community. Shortly after graduating high school, she went to work in Dallas where she met and married Jerry Smith. Together, they had four children. She traveled and entertained extensively across the United States as a military officer’s wife. Orbeck was always socially active and throughout her life, had been involved in many organizations, including VFW Auxiliary; Clifton Civic Society; Norwegian Society of Texas; American Legion Auxiliary; Women’s Guild of Immanuel Lutheran Church; was a past officer of the Pilot’s Club of Terrell; and had various positions in the Marine Corps Officer’s Wives Club. Those who knew her said that she was a devoted wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Virgie Smith; two brothers, Bill and C.W. ‘Dub’ Lambert; son Jerry Bert Smith, Jr.; daughter Melanie Kay Smith; and spouses Lt. Col. Jerry Smith and J.D. Norris. Orbeck is survived by her husband, James Orbeck; son and his wife, Randy and Trena Smith; daughter and her husband, Linda and Doyle Fehler, all of Clifton; her stepson and wife Mark and Michelle Orbeck of Mansfield; her four grandchildren, Elizabeth Taylor; Jason Crow; Melissa Smith; and Brandon Hoff; her two step-grandchildren, Richard and Travis Orbeck; her four great-grandchildren, Chase, Savanna, and Lanie Sue Taylor and Carter Plumlee; and her first cousin and lifelong friend Fern Wiggins. Pallbearers included John Taylor, Chase Taylor, Zack Fehler, Jake Fehler, Luke Fehler, and Owen Ringness. honorary pallbearers were Vernon Lambert, Furman Grim, and Melton Solberg. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home, both in Clifton.

Donald ‘Don’ Nelson
Funeral services for Donald “Don” Nelson of Victoria were held Thursday, Sept. 7, at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Mike Singenstreu officiating. Nelson, 72, died Monday, Sept. 4. Nelson was born. Oct. 20, 1933, in Bosque County, to the late Alfred and Palma Olson Nelson. He was an underwriting manager for Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. and a Presbyterian. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Nell O. Maynard and Mary Ann Nelson; and a brother, Archie Nelson. Nelson is survived by his wife, Gladys Jaschke Nelson; daughters, Sharon M. Nelson of Fort Worth and Janis L. Nelson Smith of Arlington; son, Gary A. Nelson of Houston; brother, Gerald Nelson of Cranfills Gap; and three grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers include Rebecca Nelson, Kathy Nelson, Robert Nelson, Loeen Nelson, Nathan Tisdale, David Smith (Arlington) Cody Bagnall, Benjamin Baylor, Walker Baylor, Charlie Braun, Glen Dietzel, and David Smith (Victoria). Memorials can be sent to Christ Presbyterian Church or Hospice of South Texas. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Rosewood Funeral Chapels in Victoria.

Leona Williams
Funeral services for Leona “Granny” Williams of Morgan were held Friday, Sept. 8, at the First Baptist Church of Morgan, with Rev. Patrick Correll officiating. Burial followed in the Morgan cemetery. Williams passed away Tuesday, Sept. 5, in Clifton. She was born Dec. 7, 1917, in Clifton, the youngest of 13 children, to Charles and Augusta Leck. She attended school in Clifton and also briefly attended Clifton College and Tarleton State University. She married Matt J. Williams on April 11, 1938, in Waco and lived in Bosque County all her life. She was a seamstress at Walls in Clifton for many years, some of which she worked alongside her daughter, Donna Jean. Williams was proud to call Morgan her home and was a loyal fan of the Morgan Eagles, attending all home games until her health made that difficult for her. In 1995, she was honored by being officially named Eagles Biggest Fan. She was very proud of all the teams over the years and loved “her football boys.” Those nearest to her said that her presence on the sidelines will be greatly missed. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Morgan. Williams was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, her husband, and two sons, Dan Allen Williams and Jerry Wayne Williams; two daughters, infant LaWana Jean Williams and Donna Jean Williams; and her grandson, Billy Ray Williams, Jr. She is survived by one son, Billy Ray Williams Sr.; one son-in-law, J.H. Williams; eight grandchildren, Charlie O. Williams, LaWana Riley, Susi Williams, Mattina Williams, DeWayne Williams, Deanna Bracciali, Darren Williams, and Wayne Williams, Jr.; 18 great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Josh Pegoda, Jordan Kennedy, Jacob Riley, Jayla Williams, Michelle and Aaron Olivarri, Raymond and Jesse Santilliam, Kristina and Charlie Williams, Stevi and Ale Williams, Brittanie, Brooke, and Ciara Williams, and Dalton and Ashton Williams; and three great-great-granchildren, Anthony Muniz, Lacy Pegoda, and Justin Williams. Pallbearers included Otis Griffith, Jeremiah Croom, Jon Croom, Richie Lira, Chris Moser, and Nolan Moser. Her great-grandsons served as Honorary Pallbearers, along with Jimmy Greenwood. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the First Baptist Church of Morgan or to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Funeral services were under the direction of Lawson Funeral Home.

Chrystene Kirkpatrick
Funeral services were held for Chrystene “Chris” Vance Kirkpatrick, 92, of Meridian, on Saturday, Sept. 9, in the Meridian First United Methodist Church, with Rev. William Sterling officiating. She passed away Wednesday night, Sept. 6, in the Meridian Manor, where she had resided for the past several years. Burial was in the Meridian cemetery. Kirkpatrick was born May 24, 1914, in Floyd County, to Charles and Lillie Trowbridge. She graduated from Floydada High School and the University of Oklahoma. After teaching Home Economics in Kemp, she was Coleman County Home Demonstration Agent with the Texas Extension Service for several years. In 1940, she married J.W. Vance of Coleman, who was a Texas Master Farmer and Rancher. She worked with her husband as an active partner in the polled hereford business, showing Vance Golden Hoof Farms cattle in national and state shows and selling the cattle throughout the U.S. and in foreign countries. After the death of her husband in 1961, she continued in the cattle and sheep business, eventually moving her ranch and operation to the Valley Mills area. She married Frank Kirkpatrick of Meridian in 1971. He was a retired rancher and died in 1990. Kirkpatrick served as president of the Central Texas Polled Hereford Association, being the only woman ever elected to that honor. She was also president of the National Wool Growers Auxiliary, the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Auxiliary, and the Coleman County Livestock Association Auxiliary. She was known for her enthusiam in all her activities and her abundant hospitality. Kirkpatrick was a member and steward of the Meridian First United Methodist Church and had served as president of the Meridian Study Club. She was preceded in death by step-son, Kenneth Vance in 1985, and by seven older sisters and brothers. Kirkpatrick is survived by step-grandsons John Vance, Robert Vance, and Ted Vance. She is also survived by godchildren Nan Baird Strasburger, Angie Baird Whitney, and Rick Baird; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Pallbearers were Rick Baird, Charles Gremminger, Larry Smith, John Vance, and Wm. A. Wright. Lawson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Robert A. Moulton
Robert Arthur Moulton, 55, a resident of Womack, passed away on Friday, Sept. 8, at his home following long and disabling illnesses. Moulton was born Sept. 3, 1951, in New York state, the son of Ruth and Vernon Moulton. Raised on the family dairy farm, he quit school during his senior year to join the Army during the Viet Nam War. A SP4, Moulton served with the 48th AHC Blue Star, based at Ninh Hoa from Oct. 1969 to Oct. 1970, where he received the Air Medal. Following his military service, he held a variety of jobs including being the steak cook at a country club to running the “tar kettle” for a roofing company. He loved birds and raised gamefowl during several periods of his life. Most recently, he concentrated on the original Oriental breeds in the hopes of helping to preserve the ancient Aseel breeds. Those closest to him said that he loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and working with his hands, whether he was building a barn, woodburning a piece of art, or training dogs. Moulton was preceded in death by his son, Alex, in 2002, and both of his parents. Survivors include his wife, Carol, and daughter, Alyson, both of the Clifton area; two step-daughters; and several sisters and their families. His ashes will be returned to the mountains and forests of his home state. Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
