GUY W. THOMPSON, age 87, of Coleman passed away (Sunday, August 25, 2002) at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Community Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Santa Anna cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mr. Thompson was born May 16, 1915 in Guadalupe County, Texas and was a son of the late George Wilson Thompson and Etta Leona Wright Thompson. He grew up and attended school in Kingsbury, Texas. During World War II he served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater of Operations. On June 3, 1965 he married Jessie Garrett in Odessa. He lived in Monahans and Odessa for many years before moving to Coleman in 1981. He was a member and deacon at Community Baptist Church, having previously served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie Thompson of Coleman; one daughter, Sheron Elaine Thompson of Kerrville; one son, Guy W. Thompson, Jr. of Leakey, Texas; one step-daughter, Pamela (and husband David) Hinds of Coleman; one sister, Thelma Krueger of Cuero, Texas; nine grandchildren, Cheryl Crouch, Amber Williams, Patrick Thompson, Travis Thompson, Amanda Spindle, Andrea Bourlon, Teri Wilson, Jimmy Hinds, Clayton Hinds; nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, five brothers and a step-daughter, Patricia Williams in 1996.

Family visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

MARY KATHRYN FENTON WHEELER, age 71, of Coleman died Tuesday (October 8, 2002) at an Abilene hospital. Graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Santa Anna cemetery with Joe Hailey officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Wheeler was born on October 27, 1930 in Gouldbusk, Texas and was a daughter of Lige and Tince Spillars Fenton. She grew up and attended school in Gouldbusk. On November 8, 1947 she married Ralph "Pug" Wheeler in Gouldbusk and he preceded her in death on October 16, 1984. She had lived in Coleman for many years and had recently moved to Abilene. She was a nurses’ aide. She was a member of Elm Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include two daughters: Gwendolyn Washburn of Abilene and Tamela Ka Rosales (and husband Joe) of Coleman; three sisters, Maedell Motsinger of Abilene, Billie Davis of San Angelo and Rebecca Ewing of Abilene; five grandchildren, Shannon Ridner (and wife Melinda) of Coleman, Jeremy Wortman of Abilene, James Rosales, Jacob Rosales and Jeffery Rosales all of Coleman.

She was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Chelsey A. Dawn Jackson in 1994.

Family visitation will be held on Thursday from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.

ROBERT GUTIERREZ, age 54, of Coleman died Tuesday (October 22, 2002) at his residence. Funeral services will held 10:00 a.m. Saturday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Coleman cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Gutierrez was born on August 18, 1948 in Houston, Texas and was a son of Santos Gutierrez and Elvira Gallegos Gutierrez. He grew up in Houston where he attended school and moved to Coleman in 1974. He attended New Testament Holiness Church in Bangs.

Survivors include six sisters, Connie Garza of Houston, Hortense Oliver of Coleman, Lilly DeLeon of Houston, Virginia Salinas of Bangs, Belia Gonzales and Sylvia Molina both of Houston; two brothers, Santos Gutierrez, Jr. and Reuben Gutierrez both of Houston; numerous nieces and nephews.

BOBBY DALE PARKS, age 35, of Coleman died Saturday, October 26, 2002. Graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday (November 1, 2002) at Coleman City cemetery Pavilion with Louise Strength officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Bobby was born April 8, 1967 in Littlefield, Texas and was a son of Bennie and Donna Parks. He moved to Coleman as a small child and graduated from Coleman High School in 1985, where he played football. He was employed as a welder and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include one daughter, Taylor Marie Parks of Red River, N. M.; his mother, Donna Parks of Minco, OK; three sisters, Peggy Johnson, Bonnie Lanham and Rosie Watts all of Coleman; three brothers, Donald Parks, Billy Parks and Terry Parks all of Coleman; numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bennie Parks; and one brother, Larry Parks.

Family visitation will be held Wednesday October 30, 2002 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

LESLIE HOWARD GRIFFITH, age 62, of San Angelo and former Gouldbusk resident, died Sunday at Park Plaza Nursing Center in San Angelo. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday (October 28, 2002) at Gouldbusk cemetery with Rev. Paul Smith officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Leslie Griffith was born February 7, 1941 in Gouldbusk and was a son of Ernest Griffith, Jr. and Mildred Smith Griffith Minatra. He grew up and attended school in Gouldbusk. He served in the United States Air Force. He was a member of Community Baptist Church in Coleman and had lived in San Angelo for the last five years.

Survivors include two daughters; one brother, Don Griffith of Las Vegas, Nevada; uncle, Rev. Paul Smith of Coleman and several cousins.

Memorials may be made to Community Baptist Church, 218 Lackland, Coleman, Texas 76834.

ED M. GRAVES, age 77, of Silver Valley, died Wednesday (October 30, 2002) at a Ballinger hospital. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Silver Valley cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Ed M. Graves was born February 1, 1925 in Coleman County, Texas and was a son of Marion and Alto Schueller Graves. He grew up in Coleman County and attended school in Silver Valley. During World War II, he served in the U. S. Army in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. On November 23, 1963 he married Patsy Morris and she preceded him in death on December 23, 1988. He married Martha Wilson in Fort Worth on October 10, 1989. He was a rancher and a member of the National Cutting Horse Association, Cattleman’s Association, Coleman County Rodeo Association and the American Quarter Horse Association. He was Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Graves of Silver Valley; one son, Russell Johnson (and wife Donna) of Silver Valley; two step-sons, John Fuller and family of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Paul Fuller and family of Springfield, Missouri; one granddaughter, Sherri Merrill (and husband John) of Coleman; one great-grandson, Jansen Merrill of Coleman; nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, Texas 79605.

Family visitation will be held on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

COLEEN DONICA, age 54, of Coleman died Tuesday (November 19, 2002) at her residence. Graveside funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday (November 21, 2002) at Coleman cemetery Pavilion with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Coleen was born on September 6, 1948 in Coleman, Texas and was a daughter of Velma Hollon Gilder and the late Samuel Eugene Gilder. She grew up in Coleman where she attended school. She graduated from Cosmetology School in Brownwood and owned French Beauty Shop. Coleen married Ronnie J. Donica, Sr. on February 4, 1988 in Coleman. She was also the co-owner of Coonie’s Barbecue Restaurant. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ronnie J. Donica, Sr. of Coleman; her mother, Velma Gilder of Coleman; four sons, Michael Wayne Fikes, Darrell Dwain Fikes, Cody Darian Fikes and Travis Wiley Eugene Donica all of Coleman; two step-daughters, Tammy Lee Casey (and husband John) of Coleman and Stephanie Rene’ Donica of Coleman; two step-sons, Ronnie J. Donica, Jr. of Brownwood and David Lynn Donica of Allen, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Pat Gilder of Coleman; one sister and brother-in-law, Patsy Carol and Johnnie Neal of Coleman; 10 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hendrick Hospice, 1242 N. 19th Street, Abilene, Texas 79601 or the American Cancer Society.

Family visitation will be held this evening (Wednesday) from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

SUE HEMPHILL, age 72, of Coleman died Thursday (November 14, 2002) at her home. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating and assisted by Dr. James Shields. Burial will follow in the Coleman cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Sue Hemphill was born June 8, 1930 in Leaday and was a daughter of the late Olan "Bud" Wilson and Grace Thommason Wilson. She grew up in Leaday and attended school at Mozelle. She also attended Hardin-Simmons University and Texas Tech University. She was the 1951 Coleman Rodeo Queen. On February 16, 1952 she married Jimmy Hemphill in Leaday. Sue was employed at Coleman County Electric Co-op for 20 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Lydia Sunday School Class.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Hemphill of Coleman; two daughters, Sandra Edington of Coleman and Jamie and husband Jim Pool of Stephenville; one son, Charlie Hemphill of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Jim Bob and wife Elizabeth Edington of Stephenville, Trey Pool of Stephenville, Hayes Edington of Coleman and Taylor Pool of Stephenville; one great-grandson, Jeffery Edington of Stephenville; one brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Mona Wilson of Gouldbusk; one sister, Doreece Ford.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, Texas 79605.

Family visitation will be held on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.

GARLAND GARNER, age 57 of Coleman, died Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at Coleman County Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, November 15, 2002 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Daniel Bodine officiating. The body will be cremated.

Garland was born January 26, 1945 in Brady, Texas, a son of Jim Garner and Gladys Webb Garner. He was raised and attended school in Coleman. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He married Jan Bodine on April 9, 1971 in Coleman. He was a welder and worked in the oil field. He was a member of the Community Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jan Garner of Coleman; four sons, Greg Garner of Washington, Richard Garner of Abilene, Burton Garner and Monte Garner both of Coleman; one daughter, Dana Adams of Coleman; two sisters, Avell Tedder of Farmer’s Branch, Texas, Sandra Wise of Trinity, Texas; two brothers, Darrell Garner of Florida and Larry Garner of Luling, Texas; six grandchildren and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jimmy Garner and Bill Garner.

Family visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Honorary Pallbearers will be J.W. Fulbright, Calvin Merryman, Tooter Baynes, Ronald Alvey, Donald Jackson and Danny K. Densman.

TOMMY McCULLOCH, age 70, of Coleman died Monday (November 11, 2002) at Coleman County Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Sam Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman cemetery.

Tommy was born August 2, 1932 in Coleman, Texas and was a son of B. W. McCulloch and Neva Ruth Minatra McCulloch. He grew up in Coleman and attended school here. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On May 28, 1955 he married Doris Seals. He was a retired oil field pumper and a member of the Oddfellows.

Survivors include his wife, Doris of Coleman; three sons, Rick and wife Mary Ann McCulloch, Nick and wife Tamie McCulloch, Mick and wife Joyce McCulloch; four granddaughters, Sonya and husband Johnny Costanza, Meagan McCulloch, Caroline McCulloch and Kristen Pool; sisters, Ovida Frick, Overa Rufle and Peggy Baker; two brothers, B. W. McCulloch and Max and wife Laverne McCulloch.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Leeah McCulloch.

Memorials may be made to Children’s Medical Center, Endowment for Leeah McCulloch, Dallas, Texas.

The family will be at 1501 Hillcrest, Coleman.
