Josephine Amelia Kemp Ragle, age 91 of Coleman died Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at an Abilene nursing home. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2004 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marty Reed officiating. Burial will be in the Coleman City cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Josephine was born February 11, 1913, in Coleman County. She was 91 years old at the time of her death. She was the daughter of WILLIAM HENRY KEMP and NORA HUDDLESTON KEMP. Josephine married GEORGE RAGLE February 13, 1953, in Elbert, Texas. George preceded her in death in 1973. Josephine was also preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. Her brothers were WILLIAM MARVIN KEMP, CECIL MERLE KEMP, MELVIN KEMP, and LIEUEN C. KEMP. Her sister was VIRGINIA VIOLA "Jimmie" KEMP SIDES.

Survivors include TOMMY RAGLE of Newark, LINDA DAVIS of Fort Worth, one granddaughter, Julie, of Fort Worth, and one great grand daughter. Three nephews: BILLY JOE KEMP of Fort Worth, KAYO KEMP of Abilene, and CURTIS MERLE SIDES of Madrid, Spain, and two nieces: PATSY POWELL of Sulphur Springs, and ANN WILSON of Coleman. Several great nieces and nephews also survive.

Josephine was a homemaker and lived most all of her life in Coleman County. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Coleman.

RICHARD B. (JIM) FERGUSON, life long aviator, left this world on his final flight to be the his savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 19, 2004, at the age of 78. He embraced a full life with gusto and humor, forming family and friendships that left this world a better place for all who knew him.

He was born in Abilene and graduated from high school in Kermit. After high school, he graduated from Army Air Corps Aviation Cadet College at Ellensburg, Washington and went on to pilot numerous military aircraft until the end of World War II. He then married Janette Jones in 1945 and settled in Tulare, California. He instructed flying in many general aviation aircraft, flew crop dusting and performed acrobat and stunt flying at area events. Moving to San Diego, California, he joined Rohr Corporation in the Aerospace Industry, retiring thirty years later as cost estimator section supervisor. He continued his contribution to general aviation throughout his life, flying as a pilot instructor while also starting a Fixed Base Operation, BarAero, at National City Airport, and then Brown Field, San Diego as Flying J Aviation. He also commanded units in Civil Air Patrol, Auxiliary of the United States Air Force, including Group 3 covering all of San Diego County. He concluded over 50 years of continuous participation CAP 3 as a Lt. Colonel and California Wing Chief Check Pilot, with over 11,000 hours of flying, often in his World War II vintage T-6 Texan.

He left San Diego for Coleman, Texas in 1991 to add to his investments in real estate. He continued to fly his aircraft between San Diego and Coleman, enjoying stops in between to visit family and friends while managing his properties.

Jim is survived by three sons, Rich Ferguson of San Antonio, Ron Ferguson of Chulavista, California, Royce Ferguson of Vista, California; one sister, Earlyne Robertson of Canyon Lake, Texas; former wife, Janette Ferguson of Chulavista, California; grandchildren, Laurie Owen and husband Kurt, of San Antonio, James Ferguson of Houston, Bill Ferguson of Bakersfield, California, Leah Abbondondolo of Florida, Derek Morris of San Diego; great-grandchildren, Kory and Judy Owen of San Antonio and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard B. and Grace Owens Ferguson and one son, Randell Ferguson.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2004 at Community Memorial Funeral Home, 1443 North 2nd Street, Abilene, Texas with Rev. Chad King officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill cemetery, Masonic Section, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman, Texas.

LIBBIE ARDENA POINDEXTER GORMAN, 92 years old, died Sunday, February 22, 2004 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman. She was born April 14, 1911 to Will and Amelia Johnson Poindexter in Oplin. She married Jack Gorman May 14, 1927 in Baird.

Jack and Libbie lived in Coleman and Taylor Counties where Jack worked in the oil field until 1955, when they moved to Aztec, New Mexico. Because of Jack’s failing health, the moved to Las Cruces in 1966. After Jack died, Libbie remained in Las Cruces a short time before moving to Farmington to work at the Navajo Methodist Mission as dorm mother until she retired and moved back to Novice. She enjoyed being near Tom and Myrtle, and other family members and many old friends. She moved to the High Rise in Coleman where she made new friends and enjoyed many activities. Due to failing health, she moved to Holiday Hill Nursing Center where she enjoyed and participated in their planned activities.

Most of Libbie’s life, she was a homemaker. Like the noble woman in Proverbs 31, she went about her work vigorously. Many women do noble things but you surpass them all.

Libbie was a member of Novice Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Earnestine of Las Cruces, New Mexico; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Barry of Rio Vista, Texas; a sister, Lola Mae Stevens of Woodward, Oklahoma; a brother, Henry Poindexter of Fort Stockton; four grandsons, several great grand-children, nieces and nephews.

Libbie was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; baby daughter, Dorothy Eileen; grandson, James Gorman; four sisters and three brothers.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 23, 2004 at Rough Creek cemetery with D.G. Allen officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. A family visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

MILDRED FORBESS RODGERS, age 84, of Coleman, died Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at Abilene Regional Medical Center. Funeral service was 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Hailey officiating. Burial followed in the Coleman cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Mildred Forbess on December 10, 1919 in Coleman County, Texas to Ancil and Etta Barnett Forbess. She grew up in Brown County and attended school at Brookesmith. In 1936 she married Elmer Rodgers in Coleman. She lived in Brownwood for four years and Fort Worth for four years before moving back to Coleman. She was a homemaker, a past member of the Garden Club, and a member of Elm Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Elmer Rodgers of Coleman; two daughters and one son-in-law, Patsy Jackson of San Angelo and Sharon and Fred Goble of Mission Viejo, CA; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Cheryl Rodgers of Grand Prairie, TX; four grandchildren: Tal and wife Deborah Jackson, Takoma Baldwin, Kristi and husband Dexter Baber, Andy and Christina Hausenfluke; three great-grandchildren, Sara Baldwin, Lindsey Baldwin and Chloe Jackson.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Visitation was Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Busby, Dennis Busby, Jerry Forbess, Bill Merryman, Jerry Hubbard and Pete Floyd.

Honorary pallbearers were the Elders of Elm Street Church of Christ: Donald Williams, Bill Crow, Lyndon Key and Roy Buse.

JEAN ALLEN, age 94, of Midland and former Leaday and Coleman resident, died Sunday, February 29, 2004 at Midland Memorial Hospital. Graveside funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Leaday cemetery with Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Jean Self on January 7, 1910 in Shep, Texas and was the daughter of David and Julia Ann Hawkins Self. She grew up in Shep and attended school there. On March 9, 1930 she married Roy Allen in Shep and he preceded her in death on December 5, 1986. She lived in Leaday and Coleman until moving to Midland in 1954. She was Baptist.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Inez Allen of Midland; one daughter, Wanda Newton of Fontana, CA; two sisters, Mae Allen of Leaday and Nell Walker of Wingate; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, T’nee Allen.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.

ROY MONROE KERBOW, age 78 of Abilene and former Coleman County resident died Friday, March 5, 2004 at Hendrick Medical Center. Funeral service will be 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2004 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman with Gary Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman City cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mr. Kerbow was born February 28, 1926 in Brownwood, a son of Johnny Edward and Rosa Lee Forehand Kerbow. He grew up and attended school in Gouldbusk. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He married Olivia "Tookie" Sparks in Coleman on July 5, 1945. She preceded him in death on July 6, 1980. He moved to Abilene in 1974 from Coleman County and did custom combining in the summer all over Texas.

Survivors include one daughter, Donna Obar of Hurst, Texas; two sons, Timothy Roy Kerbow of Houston, Tony Kerbow and wife Kathy of Baird; one brother, Buster Kerbow of Magnolia, Texas; one sister-in-law, Edna Tisdale of Coleman; one brother-in-law, R.C. Sparks of Coleman; six grandchildren, Tammy and Tiffany Obar of Hurst, Texas, Jim Kerbow of Rogers, Texas, Travis Kerbow and wife Tatum of Weatherford, Adrienne Kerbow of Goldthwaite, Heather Kerbow of San Angelo; one great-grandchild, Kaden Kerbow of Weatherford and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two sisters, Viola Brannon and Marie Garner.

ROSEMARY PARSONS, age 78 of Coleman, died Friday, March 5, 2004 in San Angelo. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2004 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in the Santa Anna cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Parsons was born September 16, 1925 in the Liberty community in Coleman County. She grew up in Liberty and graduated from Coleman High School. She later graduate from Howard-Payne University with a Bachelor’s of Education and a Master’s of Education. She married Bennie Parson in Brownwood on August 23, 1947. He preceded her in death on June 10, 1978. Mrs. Parsons taught school for 34 years in Amarillo, Bangs, Cross Roads, Burkett, Talpa-Centennial and Coleman. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Retired Teachers Association and Fellowship Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Randy Ward of Llano; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne and Lavelle Parsons of Temple; three grandchildren, Ryan Ward of San Angelo, Christy and Allyson Ward of Llano; one great grandchild, Lane Ward of San Angelo; one niece, three nephews and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Duggins.

Family visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

JASON KIGHT, age 19 of Coleman, died Sunday, March 7, 2004 at his residence. Funeral service will be 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2004 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. The body will be cremated. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Jason was born December 27, 1984 in Hutchinson, Kansas, a son of John David and Teresa Ann Northway Kight. He grew up in Abilene, Novice and Coleman and attended school at Novice High School where he played football and Coleman High School. He enjoyed singing and all the youth activities at Bible Baptist Church, where he was a member.

Jason is survived by his parents, John and Teresa Kight of Coleman; one brother Jonathon Kight of Coleman; one sister, Krystal Kight of Coleman; grandparents, Dr. Don and Myrt Northway of Coleman, Rev. Ernie and Carolyn Kight of Abilene; great-grandparents, Carl and Annabelle Schmitz Webb of Iola, Kansas and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Andrew John (A.J.) Kight in June, 2001 and great-grandparents, George Schmitz, Cecil and Lila Beeson, Otis and Elizabeth Smith and Scott and Gladys Northway.

Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Bible Baptist Church Sound System Fund, 1015 South Commercial, Coleman, Texas 76834.

Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Kraker, Brandon Bouldin, Brandon French, Nathan French, Travis French and Collin Duett.

WINNIE CATHEY McQUEEN, age 91, long-time resident of Coleman, died Saturday, March 13, 2004 in Lawton, Oklahoma. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2004 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with David Ross Cathey officiating. Burial will follow in the Brown Ranch cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Susian Winnieford Cathey on November 21, 1912 in Loss Creek, Coleman County, Texas, a daughter of the late Carlin and Florence Sampson Cathey. She grew up in Coleman County and graduated from Coleman High School. She was married to Earl E. McQueen and he preceded her in death in 1944. Winnie received her B.A. degree from Mary Hardin Baylor College and her Master’s from Texas Tech. She was a teacher in elementary school and later a Home Economics teacher in high school. She taught at Mukewater, Burkett, Santa Anna (two different times), Post and Ballinger. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Good Neighbor Extension Homemakers and the Elm Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Delbert E. and Sandy McQueen of Lawton, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Kurt McQueen of Lawton, Oklahoma and Karl McQueen of Wichita Falls, Texas; two brothers, Roy E. Cathey of Sanuarita, Arizona and David Ross Cathey of Lindale, Texas.

She was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

Family visitation will be 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. MONDAY at the funeral home.
