Mickey Allen Brooks, a long-time resident of Jasper, Texas, has joined his Ultimate Craftsman following a courageous 8 year battle with renal cell carcinoma. Born December 20, 1944, Mickey was raised in Milam, Texas. He attended Hemphill High School where he met and later married Geri Beam on July 10, 1963. He bravely served in the Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in Thailand, where he delivered much anticipated mail to fellow soldiers through land mines and snipers. Mickey will always be remembered as a hard working, talented carpenter. He has left his skill all over Jasper County, in countless homes, and a historic site in Newton County. Never to be in a rush, he was the last of a true craftsman; a man that left his signature on all his work, whether it be a refurbished cabinet or a newly built home with Brazilian wood flooring. He passed on a legacy of excellence to his two surviving daughters- Amy Miller and husband Scott of Denton, Texas and Bonnie Frizzell and husband Scott of Mansfield, Texas. Mickey was quick to share his pride in his daughters. He was thrilled to become a grandfather and thoroughly enjoyed the presence of his grandchildren, Nick and Marley Frizzell. Honor, work ethic, truth, and humor were passed down to the girls, who will pass on his values to their children. As a devoted husband to Geri for 45 years, they made many happy memories together. Family memories will be cherished - road trips to the East Coast, making tents in the living room on 143 South Peachtree Street, playing badminton in the backyard, swinging on his strong arms (after a long days work), and helping clean paint brushes and taking off his work boots when he arrived home. Mickey is also survived by his brothers, William Glen Brooks of Milam, Texas and Emmett Dale Brooks of Houston, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lyndell Brooks of Milam, Texas, and Lurline Baldree of Toledo Bend. A memorial service will be Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church followed by a time of visiting and sharing with Mickey's family in the Fellowship Hall. The family would like to thank the VA Hospital in Houston, Dr. Peter Bidwell and Maureen Bidwell's Helping Hands Nursing Service for their compassionate care during this transition. Heartfelt thanks also to the many members of First Baptist Church and close family friends for their help and support, prayers, meals, and visits to "Boo Boo", Charlyne Primrose, who is an adopted family member. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 314 N.
