Gene Westbrook

Gene Westbrook, 87, of Abilene, died Friday at a local nursing center.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Elmwood Memorial Park with Dr. Phil Christopher officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South.

Mrs. Westbrook was born in Shawnee, Okla. and graduated on Oklahoma Central High School. She graduated from Oklahoma University in Norman, Okla. with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and taught orchestra in Oklahoma City public schools. She was an accomplished violinist. She was the widow of Max Westbrook, whom she married in Oklahoma City in 1937. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Jim Westbrook of Kerrville; two sisters, Virginia Stumbough of Boise, Idaho and Alice Weiland of Clinton Corners, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

Price 'Cotton' Bradberry

Price "Cotton" Bradberry, 85, of Merkel, died Wednesday in a Coleman hospital.

Private family services are planned at Cedar Hill Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Mr. Bradberry was born in Duncan, Okla. and moved to Abilene from Ardmore, Okla. in 1923. He graduated from Wylie High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the carpenter's union and of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include a sister, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Big Country, 3113 Oldham Lane, Abilene, 79602; or West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, 79605.

Alvin Vick Thompson

SWEETWATER - Alvin Vick Thompson, 73, died Friday in a local care center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with the Revs. David Edwards and Ralph V. Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Sweetwater Cemetery.

Mr. Thompson was born in Sweetwater. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He married Marty M. Mason in Sweetwater in 1948. He began working for Martin Sign Company in junior high school and bought the company in 1967. He operated the company until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the World Sign Association. He was a past president of the Texas Sign Manufacturers Association. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife of Sweetwater; one son, William Grant Thompson of Cloudcroft, N.M.; one brother, John Thompson of Sweetwater; and one grandchild.

Elva Lena Wren

HAMLIN - Elva Lena Wren, 81, formerly of Aspermont, died Thursday at her residence.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Hamlin Cemetery with the Rev. Mickey Wagner officiating, directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Aspermont.

Mrs. Wren was born in Stonewall County. She served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked as a nurse at Stonewall Memorial Hospital. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include two daughters, Jeanette Meyer of New Braunfels and Margaret Edwards of Springfield, Ill.; two sisters, Nadine Boyles of Aspermont and Margaret Suter of Old Glory; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Walter Cecil Waggoner

CLYDE - Walter Cecil Waggoner, 90, died Friday in a local nursing home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Clyde Church of Christ with Jim Hall and Leonard Waggoner officiating. Burial will be in the Clyde Cemetery, directed by Bailey Funeral Home.

Mr. Waggoner was born in Clyde and attended school in the Faiview community. He was the widower of Edna Rogers, whom he married in Clyde in 1933. He served with the 360th Army Engineers during World War II in the European Theater and worked as a rock and brick mason. He was a member of the Clyde Church of Christ.

Survivors include one son, Cecil Waggoner of Jacksonville, N.C.; one daughter, Betty McGowen of Clyde; four brothers, Chester Waggoner and Clifford Waggoner, both of Clyde, Leonard Waggoner of Amarillo, and Carroll Waggoner of College Station; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

James Thomas 'Jim' Moore

COLORADO CITY - James Thomas "Jim" Moore, 93, died Thursday in a local nursing home.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Colorado City Cemetery with the Rev. Sammy Elliott officiating, directed by Kiker-Seale Funeral Home of Colorado City.

Mr. Moore was born in Roxton. He married Grace Ellen Bryant in Lamar County in 1924. He moved to Colorado City in 1931 where he farmed and worked for the Colorado City schools. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of Colorado City; two sons, Raymond Moore of Artesia, N.M., and Kenneth Moore of Monahans; two daughters, Helen Crockett of Bridgeport and Ann Smith of San Angelo; one sister, Marie Hooten of Plainview; two brothers, Walter Ray Jones and Shelton Jones, both of Lamar County; 18 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Eva John Sullivan Hoover

WACO - Eva John Sullivan Hoover died Friday at her residence.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Crawford Cemetery in Crawford with the Rev. Ivan C. Ker officiating, directed by Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home of Waco.

Mrs. Hoover was born in Crawford and graduated from Crawford High School. She attended Atlanta School of Business in Atlanta, Ga. She was the widow of Olin Kenneth Hoover, whom she married in San Patricia County in 1936. She worked as a bookkeeper and office manager.

Survivors include one son, Kenneth Sullivan Hoover of Houston; one sister, Peggy Jones of Abilene; two grandchildren; and several nieces and cousins.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Crawford Cemetery Association, Box 52, Crawford, 76638, or the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 242, Waco, 76703-0242.

Cecil V. Penn

CISCO - Cecil V. Penn, 89, died Friday in an Eastland hospital. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Oakwood Cemetery with Larry Fitzgerald officiating, directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home of Cisco.

Mr. Penn was born in Eastland County. He was the widow of Emma Lee Owens. He then married Alvoree Watts in Kermit. He was a farmer and a member of the I-20 Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife of Cisco; one daughter, Emily Joan Blackburn of Big Spring; two sons, Charles Kenneth Penn of Crane and Donald Gregory Penn of Temple; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Petra Anita Rocha

WINTERS - Petra Anita Rocha, 82, died Friday at an Abilene hospital.

Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the Winters Funeral Home. Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with the Rev. Sam Homsey officiating. Burial will be in Northview Cemetery.

Mrs. Rocha was born in La Pryor. She was the widow of Andres Rocha, whom she married in Michigan in 1942. She worked for Dry Manufacturing and was a member of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.

Survivors include seven sons, Santos Rocha of Winters, Ramon Rocha of Abilene, Ramiro Rocha of Norman, Okla., Johnny Rocha of San Antonio, George Rocha of Sacramento, Calif., Paul Rocha of Pontiac, Mich., and Aristeo Rocha of Houston; three daughters, Enedina Gonzales of Abilene, Marianne Woffenden of Winters, and Rose Rahne of Winters; 41 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Louise A. Caspell

PLANO - Louise A. Caspell, 86, of Abilene, died Wednesday in a local hospital.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Plano with Charles Sims of Anson officiating, directed by Ted Dickey Funeral Home of Plano.

Mrs. Caspell was born in Grayson, Ky. She was the widow of Edwin Caspell, whom she married in Cleveland, Ohio. She moved to Abilene in 1995. She was an organist and pianist for over fifty years in the Church of the Nazarene and was an active member of the Gideons International.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald Caspell of Abilene and Gerald Caspell of McKinney; two sisters, Marcella Galbreath and Katherine Meyer, both of Tucson, Ariz.; and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Gideons International, 3526 S. Treadaway, Abilene, 79602, or the First Church of the Nazarene Music Ministry, 1389 Vine, Abilene, 79602.
