Lucas Silva

Lucas Silva, 88, of Abilene died Monday in a local nursing home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church with the Rev. Tim Guthridge officiating. A prayer service will held at 7 p.m. today at North’s Downtown Chapel. Burial will be at Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by North’s Funeral Home, 242 Orange.

Mr. Silva was born and raised in Divine. He married Paula Rodriguez in 1929 and moved to Munday 20 years later to work as a farmer. He moved to Abilene in 1963, where he worked as an AISD custodian for several years. He was a member of St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife of Abilene; sons, Ramon, Remigio, Ramiro and Ray Silva of Abilene; daughters Rose Ann Fernandez of Abilene and Rosa Linda Silva of Chicago, Ill.; sisters, Regina Guarjardo, Margurita Gonzales and Luz Silva of Divine; brother, Juan Silva of Uvalde; 25 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Doyle Adams

EASTLAND — Doyle Adams, 72, died Monday at an Abilene Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Gary Adams and the Rev. Steve McCaslin officiating. Burial will be at Sipe Spring Cemetery, directed by Edwards Funeral Home of Eastland.

Mr. Adams was born Oct. 9, 1926. After serving in the U.S. Navy from 1942-44, he married Jamie Joann Elliott in Cisco on Aug. 29, 1949. She preceded him in death on Nov. 14, 1977. He then married Ramona Joy Oakley on July 8, 1989 in Carbon.

He began working on a farm in Sipe Springs and later moved to oilfield work before working as a heavy equipment operator for the city and county of Eastland. He retired in 1988 and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Ramona Joy Adams of Punkin Center; daughter, Charlotte Constancio of Rising Star; brothers, Hubert Adams of McCamey, Edward “Bud” Adams of Ingram and Gerald Adams of Rhome; sister, Maxine Dollar of Brookshire; and four grandchildren.

Robert L. Shook

BRECKENRIDGE — Robert L. Shook, 41, died Tuesday at a Breckenridge hospital.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Melton Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Joel Sanders officiating. Burial will be in Breckenridge Cemetery.

Mr. Shook was born Oct. 23, 1957, in Eastland County. He married Crystal May on Oct. 2, 1983, in Breckenridge and worked as a pipeliner for Koch Oil Co. and West Texas Municipal Water District. He was a Baptist and a U. S. Air Force veteran.

Survivors include his wife; son, Eric Ryan Shook of Breckenridge; mother, Betty Shook of Breckenridge; father, Donley Shook of Ranger; sister, Lynna Lobstein of Breckenridge; brothers, Gaylon Shook of Abilene and Bruce Shook of Medford, Okla.; grandmother, Inez Shook of Ranger; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to A.L.S. Research and may be left at Melton Funeral Home.

Eddie D. Cannon

CLYDE — Eddie D. Cannon, 89, died Monday in an Abilene hospital.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ in Buffalo Gap with Haven Miller officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Twin Oaks Memorial Park Cemetery in Artesia, N.M., with J.T. Ross officiating. Services will be directed by Parker Funeral Home in Baird.

Mrs. Cannon was born April 18, 1909, in Pottsville. She married Homer Cannon on Nov. 28, 1927, in Santa Rita, N.M., and was a homemaker. A longtime resident of Clyde, she moved from Artesia, N.M. and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include her daughters, Arnell Waldon of Carlsbad, N.M., and Gayle Brown of Clyde; sister, Vivian Townsley of Alaska; seven grandsons; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Cora Lea Anderson

LONGVIEW — Cora Lea Anderson, 98, died Tuesday.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Lakeview Funeral Home in Longview with the Rev. Tommy Weems officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Bangs Cemetery in Bangs with the Rev. Rick Justice officiating.

Mrs. Anderson was born June 28, 1901, in Valera. She married Henry Anderson on March 16, 1924, in Bangs and worked as both a teacher and a principal in Bell County. After retiring in 1974, she moved to Longview and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in White Oak, Pine Tree Chapter-Order of Eastern Star, National Educators Association, Texas State Teachers Association, Kappa Mu Chapter of Delta Gamma Teachers Society and Mother’s Club of Texas Order of DeMolay.

Survivors include her daughter, Rena Pittman of Longview; son, Todd Anderson of Stephenville; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. today at Lakeview Funeral Home in Longview and at Gold Key Inn in Brownwood on Friday after graveside services.

Memorials may be given to Emmanuel Baptist Church, P.O. Box 588, White Oak, Texas 75693 or Foster’s Home for Children, Stephenville, Texas 76401.

Thomas ‘Tommy’ Paul Edwards

OLDEN — Thomas “Tommy” Paul Edwards, 66, died Monday at a Dallas hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Olden Baptist Church with the Rev. Blake O’Dell officiating. Burial will be in Eastland City Cemetery, directed by Edwards Funeral Home.

Mr. Edwards was born Jan. 3, 1933, in Olden. He served in the U.S. Army’s 90th Field Artillery Battalion from 1953 - 55 in Korea, before returning home and playing semiprofessional baseball. A retired engineering technician, he worked for the Texas Highway Department for 36 years, and was a member of the Olden Baptist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Dixie M. Edwards of Olden; stepson, Charles Wolford Jr. of Amsterdam, Holland; sisters, Frances Weagle of Mankato, Minn., Thelma Hilliard of Beaumont and Wilma Edwards of Arlington; brother Richard Edwards of Plano; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Lillie Youngblood

SPRINGTOWN — Lillie Youngblood, 64, formerly of Abilene, died Tuesday, May 25 in a Weatherford hospital.

Cremation was handled by White’s Funeral Home in Weatherford. A scattering of ashes is planned next spring over a field of Texas bluebonnets.

Mrs. Youngblood was born Nov. 24, 1934, in Milam County and worked at Abilene State School for several years. She retired in Rogers, Ark., as a home care nurse before moving to Springtown. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her mother Pearl Allen of Abilene; sisters, Kay Hunter of Clyde, Loyle McCoy of Abilene and Connie Harrilson of Mineral Wells; brother, Dale Allen of Giddings; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First United Presbyterian Church of Springtown.

James Raymond “Bill” Grimsley

KNOX CITY — James Raymond “Bill” Grimsley, 70, died Monday at an Abilene hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Haskell with the Revs. Johnny Johnson and Jim Turner officiating. Burial will be in Weinert Cemetery, directed by Smith Funeral Home in Knox City.

Mr. Grimsley was born Jan. 20, 1929, in Weinert. After graduation, he married Patsy “Pat” Counts and worked as a tractor mechanic and butane service man for Penman Conoco in Knox City. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in Korea and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Haskell.

Survivors include his wife of Knox City; daughters, Walta Lynne Lopez of Spur, Jamie Kaye Phillips of Graham, Shelly Ann Cox of Rochester and Jerri Joyce Buerger of Haskell; brothers, Larry and Gerald Grimsley of Abernathy and Robert Grimsley of Graham; sister, Donna Thomas of Haskell; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Eleanor Jane Mazur

GEORGETOWN — Eleanor Jane Mazur, 63, formerly of Abilene, died Monday.

A memorial Mass will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church in Austin with the Rev. Oliver Johnson officiating. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home in Georgetown.

Mrs. Mazur was born May 2, 1936, in Abilene. She graduated St. Joseph Academy and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She met and married CMSgt. Stephen Mazur, USAF (Ret.) on June 29, 1963, in Abilene and worked as a taxpayers educational specialist for the IRS before retiring after 25 years.

She is survived by her husband of Georgetown; and daughter, Stephanie McGraw of Austin.
