Ruby Fay Lawlis
MC CAULLEY — Ruby Fay Lawlis, 85, died Wednesday in a Lubbock nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at the McCaulley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Sedberry officiating. Burial will be in McCaulley cemetery, directed by Foster-Adams Funeral Home of Hamlin.
Mrs. Lawlis was born in Parker County. She was the widow of Palmer Willard “Doc” Lawlis, whom she married in 1930 in Lovington, N.M. She was a longtime Fisher County resident and a former school bus driver and basketball coach for the McCaulley schools. She was a homemaker and a member of the McCaulley United Methodist Church. She moved to Lubbock in 1991.
Survivors include three daughters, Pam Gibson of Lubbock, Betty Beavers of The Woodlands, and Joy Holcomb of McCaulley; one brother, E.T. “Buddy” Gibson of McCaulley; four sisters, Roberta Jeffrey and Jewell Jeffrey both of McCaulley, and Willie “Bill” Herron and Estelle Self both of Sylvester; seven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Helen 'Ann' Keesee Tajchman
Helen "Ann" Keesee Tajchman, 61, died Friday in a local hospital.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 U.S. Hwy. 277 South. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 19, at Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. Frederick Nawarskas officiating. Burial will be in Fort Phantom Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Tajchman was born in Jones County. She married Clarence Tajchman on June 7, 1968 in Abilene. She graduated from Lueders High School and received a B.A. in Business from McMurry University. In 1996 she was awarded the Teacher of the Year. She received numerous awards during her teaching career including yearbook dedications. She was in charge of the PALS Program and was a member of many teachers' organizations. She retired in 1999 after teaching for 30 years.
Survivors include her husband of Abilene; two daughters, Clarissa Kapke of Abilene and Angela Friedrichsen of Wichita, Kan.; her mother, Dolly Keesee of Abilene; three brothers, George Keesee, Bob Keesee, and Mac Keesee, all of Abilene; four sisters, Emma Lee Middleton of Hawley, Maudene Gilbreath of Abilene, Dolly Dodgen of Snyder, and Patsy Fuqua of Arlington; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Eula 'Euty' Smith
Eula "Euty" Smith, 84, of Abilene, died Friday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 19, at North's Funeral Home Chapel, 242 Orange, with the Rev. Ron Curtis officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Gardens.
Ms. Smith was born in Garland and raised in Anna. She graduated from Garland High School in 1932 and moved to Abilene in 1933. She married Landon Smith on June 17, 1935 in Abilene. She worked for Woolworth's, Walgreen's, and Montgomery Wards for over 20 years. She was a member of the University Baptist Church and a longtime member of the Abilene Women's Bowling Association.
Survivors include one daughter, Lynette Bowen of Baird; and one sister, Dorothy Woody of Nederland.
Visitation will be from 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Juanita D. Silba
BAIRD - Juanita D. Silba, 90, died Thursday in an Abilene hospital.
Funeral mass will be at 2 p.m. today in the St. Joachim & St. Ann's Catholic Church in Clyde. The Rev. Robert Bush will officiate. Burial will be in the Ross Cemetery Annex, directed by Parker Funeral Home of Baird.
Mrs. Silba was born in Fort Davis and had lived in Baird for 53 years. She worked at the T&P Café for many years. She married Domingo Silba on June 24, 1935 in Baird. She was a member of the St. Joachim & St. Ann's Catholic Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Lillia Gonzales, Dominga Menez and Alex Mendez, all of Baird, and Mary Cooney of Bossier City, La.; one son, Henry Silba of Baird; 23 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Dovie Marie Watts
CISCO - Dovie Marie Watts, 72, died Thursday at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 19, at the Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel in Cisco with the Rev. Ronnie Shackelford officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in the Llano Cemetery in Llano, TX.
Mrs. Watts was born in Llano and attended school in Llano and Fredricksburg. She married Donald Preston Watts on March 6, 1967, in Tejuana, Mexico. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Cisco Chapter of Eastern Star, Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Eastland and the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include her husband of Cisco; one son, William E. Parkinson of Chico; one daughter, Dottie Eudy of Cisco; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pauline Hagler
ROBY - Pauline Hagler, 77, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at the Weathersbee Funeral Home Chapel in Roby with the Revs. Rick Marrs and Mickey Waggoner officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 19, in Restland in Dallas.
Mrs. Hagler was born in Kemp. She was the widow of Vel Paul Hagler, whom she married in 1950 in Dallas. She moved to Roby in 1997. She was a homemaker and a member of the Highland Oaks Church of Christ in Dallas.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Mahaffey of Roby and Paula Marrs of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; one sister, Marie Lander of Irving; and four grandchildren.

Penn Howell Buster
SWEETWATER - Penn Howell Buster, 93, died Friday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Sweetwater with Joe Bagby officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Mr. Buster was born in Bosque County. He was the widower of Emma Mae Green Buster, whom he married on June 26, 1932 in McCaulley. He graduated from Maryneal High School, Hardin Simmons College in 1931, and received his Master's in 1950. He taught school in Decker, McCaulley, Sylvester, Highland and Sweetwater, and retired from the Sweetwater school administration. He had also worked as a fireman on the Santa Fe Railroad and as a machinist for Hughes Tool in Calif.
He is survived by one sister, Talma Hupfield, of Merkel.

Bob Drake
BRECKENRIDGE - Bob Drake, 63, died Thursday in Amarillo.
Services will be at 12 p.m. today in the Breckenridge First Christian Church with Charles Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in the Breckenridge Cemetery, directed by Morehart Mortuary of Breckenridge.
Mr. Drake was born in Breckenridge and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1954. He also attended Texas Tech University and Texas Christian University. He was an independent pumper and rancher in Stephens County. He married Virginia Singleton on April 7, 1961 in Breckenridge and later married Tammy Reed on Dec. 3, 1992 in Lake Tahoe. He was a member of the American Chuck Wagon Association and received the Academy of Western Artist Chuck Wagon of the Year award. He had served as Democratic Chairman of Stephens County and was a member of the Jaycee's and the Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Elliott Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of Breckenridge; one son, Jack Drake of Midland; two daughters, Dina McMullen and Mandy Carmack, both of Breckenridge; one half-brother, Ricky Blanton of Los Angeles, Calif.; one sister, Norweta Steel of Haltom City; stepfather, J.M. Blanton of Fort Worth; and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association.

Don Howard
COLEMAN - Don Howard, 71, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at the Coleman First Baptist Church with the Revs. Hamp Linehan and Gary Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Santa Anna Cemetery, directed by Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman.
Mr. Howard was born in San Anna and was a 1945 graduate of Santa Anna High School. He was a lifetime resident of Coleman County. He received his Bachelor's in Business from Hardin Simmons University. He was the widower of Emily Louise McGregor Howard, whom he married on Aug. 22, 1948 in Abilene. He served on the Board of Deacons for the Coleman First Baptist Church. He was a past manager of the Little League and Senior League baseball. He was a member of the Coleman Masonic Lodge. He retired as manager of Coleman Butane Gas in 1993.
Survivors include one daughter, Donna Sue Pearson of Springfield, Va.; two sons, Stanley Ray Howard of Windsor, S.C. and Ronnie Wayne Howard of Falfurrias; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist church Benevolence Fund or Kitchen Renovation Fund, 200 E. College, Coleman, TX.

Winnie Lillian Long
SANDPOINT, IDAHO - Winnie Lillian Long, 84, died July 9.
Services were July 12, directed by Coffelt Funeral Services of Sandpoint, Idaho.
Mrs. Long was born in Mesquite. She was the widow of Eugene L. Long, whom she married on April 8, 1934 in Weatherford. She had lived in Abilene for 45 years, just recently moving to Idaho. She was a seamstress.
Survivors include three children, Ellis of Brazil, Roy of South Dakota, and Rita of Idaho; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
