Bessie Opal Farleigh

CISCO — Bessie Opal Farleigh, 91, died Tuesday in Fort Worth.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 22, in the Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel in Cisco with the Rev. Bob Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Farleigh was born in Cisco. She married John R. “Jack” Farleigh on Jan. 15, 1927 in Cisco. She was a LVN and worked at the Graham Hospital and the E.L. Graham Memorial Hospital for 62 years. She attended the Nazarene Church.

Survivors include her husband of Cisco; one son, Jack Farleigh of Fort Worth; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jimmie F. Whitworth

SWEETWATER — Jimmie F. Whitworth, 80, died Tuesday in an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Keith Clifton officiating. Burial will be in the Sweetwater Cemetery.

Mr. Whitworth was born in Sweetwater and was a lifelong resident. He married Kathleen Waddell on Sept. 23, 1939 in Sweetwater. He served in the U.S. Army under General Patton during World War II. He owned and operated Whitworth Plumbing and Repairs, retiring after 35 years. He was a member of the Lamar Street Baptist Church. He was a member of the VFW and the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife of Sweetwater; one daughter, Linda Luckey of Sweetwater; two sisters, Stella Ronemus and Lois Barrett, both of Sweetwater; one brother, Howard Whitworth of Roby; four grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Robert G. Oswalt

Robert G. Oswalt, 65, died Sunday at a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 23, at the Abilene Funeral Home Chapel of Hope, 3349 N. 12th St., with Norman Archibald officiating. The body will be cremated.

Mr. Oswalt was born in Wabash, Ind. He served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years and was awarded Sailor of the Year in 1974-75 by the Columbia League Council. He was a warehouse supervisor for Hendrick Medical Center until retiring. He was a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, AARP, U.S.S. Gunston Hall Reunion Association and a member of the Church of the Brethren.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie C. Oswalt of Abilene; one son, Robert Ray Oswalt of Omro, Wisc.; one brother, Larry Oswalt of Huntington, Ind.; two sisters, Linda Poe of Andrews Ind. And Nancy Spath of Roanoke, Ind.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Johnny Jackson

DE SOTO — Johnny Jackson, 65, formerly of Abilene, died Tuesday.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 23, at the Rolling Hills church of Christ in DeSoto with Dr. Larry James officiating. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park, directed by West/Hurtt Funeral Home of DeSoto.

Mr. Jackson was born in Collingsworth County. He served as minister at churches in Pottsboro, Denison, Richardson, Amarillo, Houston, Irving, Sugarland, and DeSoto.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Jackson; two sons, Danny M. Jackson of Sugarland and Stephen M. Jackson of Arlington; two daughters, LuAnne Regas of Sugarland and Lauree Pittman of San Diego, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; one brother; and three sisters.

Loberta Clayton

Loberta Clayton, 83, of Abilene, died Tuesday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Lytle South Baptist Church of Abilene with the Revs. Rodney Watson and Homer Hilton officiating. Burial will be in the Albany Cemetery in Albany, TX, directed by Godfrey-Neese Funeral Home of Albany.

Mrs. Clayton was born in Miles. She married Donald Clayton Sr. on Oct. 23, 1933 in George West. She was a homemaker and a member of the Lytle South Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of Abilene; two sons, Don Clayton Jr. of Fort Griffin and Dr. Lawrence Clayton of Abilene; two brothers, Fred Sawyer of Del Rio and Bill Sawyer of Tahoka; two sisters, Madelene Butler and Joyce Love, both of New Braunfels; two grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

R.J. ‘Dick’ Deal

COLEMAN — R.J. “Dick” Deal, 93, formerly of Rockwood, died Wednesday in a Brownwood hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 24, at the Rockwood Baptist Church with the Revs. Maurice Smith and Jeff Dean officiating. Burial will be in the Rockwood Cemetery, directed by Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

Mr. Deal was born in Brown County and was a lifetime resident of Coleman County where he graduated from Rockwood High School in 1924. He married Johnie Lee Ellis on June 24, 1925 in Santa Anna. He was on the Board of Deacons at the Rockwood Baptist Church and was a retired stock farmer.

Survivors include his wife of Coleman; one daughter, Dixie Perry of Denham Springs, La.; three sons, Roland Deal of Rockwood, Gene Deal of Weatherford, and Johnny Deal of Brownwood; 19 grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Friday, July 23, at the funeral home.

Betty Jo Jackson

CARBON — Betty Jo Jackson died Wednesday at her home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Rex Boggs officiating. Burial will be in the Flatwood Cemetery, directed by Edwards Funeral Home of Eastland.

Mrs. Jackson was born in Eastland, attended Flatwood School, and graduated from Carbon High School. She married Kenneth Jackson on May 29, 1964 in Carbon. She worked as a dental assistant for J.O. Jolly and later worked for Central Drug and Eastland Drug until retiring in 1998. She was a member of the Mangum Baptist Church and Eastland Eastern Star 280.

Survivors include her husband of Carbon; two sons, Billy Carlton of Eastland and Ronnie Jackson of Missouri City; one daughter, Brenda Arther of Eastland; two brothers, Roy Byrd of Eastland and Jack Byrd of Carbon; two sisters, Emma Lou Benton of Eastland and Sue Garrett of Iowa Park; 10 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to donor’s favorite charity.

Dr. William R. Gould

Dr. William R.Gould, 57, HSU dept. head, died Wednesday in a Dallas hospital.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at the First Baptist Church with Drs. Phil Christopher and Vernon Davis officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Dr. Gould was born in Hawkinsville, Ga. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy and a doctor in Medical Science from the University of Florida. Prior to his assuming the head of the graduate program in physical therapy at Hardin-Simmons University in 1994, he had been employed by the University of Florida, University of Alabama in Birmingham, Texas Woman’s University (Houston campus), and the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He married Sharon Danielson on March 7, 1970 in Gainesville, Fla. He was a member of the American Physical Therapy Assn. and the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, David Whitney Gould of Bastrop; one daughter, Susan Kathryn Gould of Houston; one brother, Robert C. Gould of Kansas City, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Hardin-Simmons University, Dept. of Physical Therapy, Box 16065, Abilene, TX 79698.

Thelbert Thomas ‘Tommy’ Morgan

Thelbert Thomas “Tommy” Morgan, 73, of Abilene, died Wednesday in a local hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the Buffalo Gap First Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Joiner and Wayne Heinze officiating. Burial will be in the Buffalo Gap Cemetery, directed by North’s Funeral Home, 4002 Buffalo Gap Road.

Mr. Morgan was born in Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and three overseas bars. He marriedBeauton Richardson on Aug. 31, 1967 in Anson. He retired from Dyess Air Force Base in 1971 and worked for the city of Abilene. He also worked for the State Department of Human Resources. He was a member of the NCO Club at Dyess and of the Buffalo Gap First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of Abilene; one son, Major (Ret.) David T. Morgan of Abilene; one stepson, Wayne Whetsel of Abilene; two sisters, Opal Warren of Ind. and Phelma Taylor of Mo.; one half-sister, Gloria Williams of Mo.; one half-brother, John Morgan of Fla.; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Buffalo Gap First Baptist Church, Building Fund, 909 Live Oak, Buffalo Gap, TX 79508.
