Fate Milford Chandler

Fate Milford Chandler, 83, of Odessa and formerly of Abilene, died Friday at his home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Chandler was born in Vashti in Clay County and attended school in Gilliland. He worked at Hamlin Sand and Gravel and moved to Abilene in 1965 from Hamlin. He then was employed as a heavy equipment operator by the city of Abilene until retiring in 1980.

Survivors include two sons, Clyde Milford Chandler of Bridgeport and Ricky Lynn Chandler of Odessa; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Home Hospice of Odessa, 3053 E. University, Odessa 79762.

Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Irene Terrazas Marquez

BIG SPRING - Irene Terrazas Marquez, 79, died Friday in a local hospital.

Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Rosewood Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with John Doll and the Rev. Roger Huff officiating. Private burial will follow.

Mrs. Marquez was born in Fort Stockton and retired from Hall Bennett Hospital. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and was the widow of Ruben Marquez, whom she married in 1939 in Big Spring.

Survivors include four daughters, Gloria Kinney of Fort Worth, Aurora Davis of Abilene, and Dolores Hudgins and Denettie Landin, both of Big Spring; three brothers, Manuel Terrazas of Indianapolis, Fred Terrazas of Midland and Felix Terrazas of Adrian, Mich.; three sisters, Anita Guiterrez of Fort Stockton, Rosa Espinoza of Adrian, Mich., and Mary Vargas of Tecumseh, Okla.; a companion, Adam Morales of Big Spring; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to American Cancer Society, c/o Lucy Bonner, P.O. Box 2121, Big Spring 79721-2121.

The family will be at 531 Scott.

Robert Carroll 'Bob' Benson

PLAINVIEW - Robert Carroll "Bob" Benson, 53, formerly of Merkel, died Saturday in a Lubbock hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Ninth and Columbia Street Church of Christ with Mike Prather and Kevin Igo officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. in Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene, directed by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home.

Mr. Benson was born in Merkel, where he attended school, and married Jannie Lou Walker in 1966 in College Station. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1968. He worked for the Texas Agricultural Extension Service for 28 years, starting as an assistant agent in Wichita County. He was a Wichita County assistant for 10 months before serving with the U.S. Army for three years, including 13 months in Korea. He became assistant agent in Hale County in 1972 and was named Mitchell County agent in 1973. He was named Hale County agent in 1984. He was superintendent of the Plainview Stock Show and South Plains Fair in Lubbock and chairman of the Panhandle Parade of Breeds in Plainview. During his tenure in Hale County, 4-H members received state and national record book recognition and exhibited grand or reserve champion animals at the State Fair of Texas. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of County Agricultural Agents in 1988 and Texas Superior Service Award from the Texas Agricultural Extension Service in 1994. He was a member of Ninth and Columbia Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, of Plainview; two sons, Kyle Benson of Kernersville, N.C., and Bryan Benson of Plainview; one daughter, Shelia Lewis of Tyler; his mother, Helen Benson of Merkel; one sister, Ann Scott of Merkel; and one grandchild.

Ola Faglie

ANSON - Ola B. Faglie, 88, died Wednesday in a local care center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Lawrence-Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Roy Stephenson officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Abilene.

Mrs. Faglie was born in Mitchell County and moved to Jones County in the late 1940s. She worked at the Jones County Courthouse. She and her husband opened and closed cemetery graves for Lawrence Funeral Home for many years. She volunteered at the Anson Museum. She was a member of the Garden Club and Church of Christ, and was the widow of Harry Faglie, whom she married in 1932.

Survivors include five nephews and one niece.

Visitation will be from 4:30-5:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Joe Curtis 'J.C.' Hancock

EARLY - Joe Curtis "J.C." Hancock, 69, named Citizen of the Year in 1998 by the Early Chamber of Commerce, died Friday at his home after a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Beckling and Benny M. Allcorn officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will be in McBee Cemetery near Lawn.

Mr. Hancock was born in Rogers in Taylor County and married Hazel Mae Bell in 1949 in Brownwood. He retired as a general supervisor for Santa Fe Railroad. He then moved to Early in 1989 and raised cattle and also farmed near Bangs. He was treasurer on the Early economic development board and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Lawn Masonic Lodge 1230. He was a trustee of First United Methodist Church and helped with the youth and in building the church's family life center.

Survivors include his wife, of Early; one son, Joe Hancock of Early; one brother, Hillin Hancock of Belton; two sisters, Sudie Jane Turner of Hamlin and Lucy Robins of Pineville, Mo.; one grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, Early 76802.

John Hobson

BLANKET - John E. Hobson, 68, died Saturday in a Brownwood hospital.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Blanket Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Swindler officiating, directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.

Mr. Hobson was born in De Leon and worked as an oilfield heavy equipment operator. He moved to Blanket in 1998 from Ballinger. He was a Baptist and was the widower of Juanita Holladay Hobson, whom he married in 1981 in Mexico.

Survivors include two brothers, W.D. Hobson and Abner Hobson, both of Lamesa; one sister, Stannie Parker of Early; one grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to American Cancer Society.

Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Mary Starnes

COLEMAN - Mary S. Starnes, 80, died Saturday at her home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Reed Justus officiating. Burial will be in Coleman Cemetery.

Mrs. Starnes was born in Los Angeles and lived in Coleman County for many years. She attended school in Santa Anna. She was a homemaker and worked as a secretary for Farm Bureau and, later, Dr. J. Duke. She was a member of Triple L Club, Home Demonstration Club and First United Methodist Church, and was the widow of Tom Starnes, whom she married in 1936 in Ballinger.

Survivors include one son, Tommy Southern Starnes of Arvada, Colo.; two daughters, Barbee Hoffman of Santa Anna and Ruth Ann Burchfield of Coleman; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pat Rudeseal

BROWNWOOD - Pat Rudeseal, 63, died Friday in a local hospital.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Greenleaf Cemetery with the Rev. Don Scott officiating, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

Mr. Rudeseal was born in Big Spring and married Iris Ann Albertson in 1958 in Poteau, Okla. He worked as a computer specialist and moved to Brownwood in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve and was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood; one son, Steve L. Rudeseal of Lubbock; his mother, Jessie Rudeseal of Brownwood; two brothers, John L. Rudeseal Jr. of Carrollton and Keith Rudeseal of Austin; one sister, Leona Myles of Brownwood; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Marshall Lynton Carson

GUSTINE - Marshall Lynton Carson, 89, died Friday in a Hamilton care center.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Hall & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Comanche with the Rev. Ronnie Calcote officiating. Burial will be in Energy Cemetery.

Mr. Carson was born in Carlton and married Beatrice Miller in 1953 in Dallas. He worked for Peerless Manufacturing Co. in Irving and was a retired welder. He was a member of Carlton Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Gustine; four daughters, Jody Durham of Eufaula, Okla., Kyra Sue Hickman of Dublin, Linda Pierce of Gustine and Sharon Sue Tucker of Irving; one son, Harold Gene Carson of Granbury; four brothers, Pete Carson and J.R. Carson, both of Lamkin, Udell "Dooter" Carson of Lufkin and Doomie Carson of Lancaster; two sisters, Marie Gaily of Quinlan and Lucy Thedford of Gustine; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Energy Cemetery Association.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
