Texanner Mayes

COLORADO CITY - Texanner Mayes, 86, died Thursday in a Midland hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Mitchell County Cemetery.

Mrs. Mayes was born in Leona and worked as a maid. She was married to Booker Mayes who preceded her in death.

Survivors include six daughters, Rosie Hubbard, Ellie Mae Moore, and Betty Harris, all of Midland, Lula Mae Fleetwood of Farmington, N.M., Dorothy Steadham of San Diego and Lula Lee of Oxford, Calif.; three sons, Wendell Mayes of Amarillo, Hodges Mayes of Colorado City and James Otis Mayes of Farmington, N.M.; 35 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren.

Mozelle Patterson McCoy

SEYMOUR - Mozelle Patterson McCoy, 83, formerly of Munday, died Thursday in a local nursing home.

Services will be at 4 p.m. today in Seymour First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Derrell Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, directed by Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.

Mrs. McCoy was born in Baylor County, where she grew up, and was a homemaker. She lived from 1960-82 in Munday, where she co-owned, with her husband, a service station and vegetable stand. She then moved to Seymour. She was a member of the Escalator Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church and was the widow of Clifton M. Patterson, whom she married in 1930 in Frederick, Okla.; and Ernest McCoy, whom she married in 1983 in Seymour.

Survivors include four daughters, Betty Bellinghausen of Justin, Texas, Peggy Moore of Hurst, Nancy Reynolds of Athens, Texas, and Mary Bell of Midland; two sons, Robert Patterson of Seymour and Charles Patterson of Arlington; two sisters, Mary Moyer of Manchester, Ohio, and Patsy Parkhill of Pinehurst, N.C.; two brothers, Tad Harris of Casper, Wyo., and Charlie Boy Harris of Seymour; 24 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Halcyon Rebecca Shrader

BAIRD - Halcyon Rebecca Shrader, 99, formerly of Dallas, died Friday in a local nursing home.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in Abbey Chapel at Restland Memorial Park Cemetery in Dallas.

Miss Shrader was born in Azle and graduated from Corsicana High School. She retired after a 42-year career at Federal Reserve Bank in Dallas. She was active in the Order of Eastern Star and Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She was a member of the Norrell Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women at Dallas First Methodist Church.

Survivors include two nieces, Mary Ruth Chatham and Charlotte Loper, both of Baird; one nephew, Hugh Shrader of Baird; many great nieces and great nephews; and many cousins.

Louise Pierson Isbell

HASKELL - Louise Pierson Isbell, 74, died Friday at her home.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Haskell First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Turner officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Isbell was born in Haskell and graduated from Baylor University. She married her husband in 1943 in Haskell and was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Retired Col. James A. Isbell of Haskell; one son, James Carroll Isbell of Keller; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

J.H. 'Pee Wee' Sibley

J.H. "Pee Wee" Sibley, 91, died Saturday in a local nursing home.

Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Fairmont United Methodist Church with Dr. Robert Sledge and the Rev. John Lee officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Mr. Sibley was born in Taylor County, where he lived for many years, and attended school in Friscoe, Okla. He returned to Abilene in 1930 and worked at American Cleaners, Zenith Cleaners, Hilton Hotel and Wooten Hotel. He sang with the West Texas Stamps Quartet for 15 years and Key City Quartet, also for 15 years. He was a member of American Association of Retired Persons, a Rose Park singing group, and Fairmont United Methodist Church, and was the widower of Elaine Paxton Sibley, whom he married in 1934 in Mangum, Okla.

Survivors include one daughter, Martha Spence of Abilene; three sisters, Annie Leonard of Erick, Okla., Ruth Leonard of Oklahoma City and Naomi Knox of Lubbock; and several nieces and nephews.

J.C. 'Bullet' Cook

BROWNWOOD - J.C. "Bullet" Cook, 74, of California, inducted into the Hardin-Simmons University Hall of Fame in 1992, died Tuesday at his home.

Graveside services were held Friday in El Toro Memorial Cemetery in El Toro, Calif. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. next Friday in Logsdon Chapel at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene with Dr. Richard Jackson officiating, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

Mr. Cook was born in Callahan County and attended Baird High School. He played wingback on the HSU football team in 1942. After serving with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II, he then returned to HSU for two more seasons. During his three-year career, the school finished with records of 9-1-1, 11-0 and 7-3. He also was a hurdler on the track team. He graduated from HSU in 1948 and played professional football with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Moving to Eunice, N.M., in 1951, he became a school teacher. As the Eunice High School football coach for 10 years, he guided his teams to four state championships, and compiled an overall record of 62-32-1. He then taught school and coached in Anaheim, Calif., until 1987.

He was a Baptist church deacon for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Cook of California; four children, Dr. Ron Cook of Brownwood, Jane Cook Jenks of Toluca Lake, Nancy Cook Renzullo of Gilroy and Lyndon Cook of Vancouver, Wash.; three sisters, Ellen Hicks and Mae Rice, both of Clyde, and Edna Barrington of Abilene; four brothers, Hiram Cook of Clyde, Carl Cook of Garland, Raymond Cook of Friona and Robert E. "Corky" Cook of Wichita Falls; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to J.C. Cook Memorial Fund for Ministerial Students, c/o Hardin-Simmons University, 2200 Hickory, Abilene 79601.

Alvis 'Buddy' Wagner

WEATHERFORD - Alvis M. "Buddy" Wagner, 82, formerly of Abilene, died Saturday in a local hospital.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Curtis Cemetery with Jonathan Merchant officiating, directed by Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Wagner was born in Mercury, Texas, and graduated from Abilene High School. He worked for the Abilene Police Department before retiring and moved to Weatherford in 1980. He was a member of South Main Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Ida Wagner of Weatherford; two daughters, Kathy Anderson and Rita Merchant, both of Weatherford; two sons, Roy Wagner and Don Wagner, both of Weatherford; his mother, Cordie Wagner of Weatherford; one sister, Ruby Elquist of Baypoint, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.

Ernest Edmond Sikes

BALLINGER - Ernest Edmond Sikes, 85, formerly of Coleman, died Saturday in a local nursing home.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Walker Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman with the Rev. Jerry Howe officiating. Burial will be in Coleman City Cemetery.

Mr. Sikes was born in Mills County and moved to Coleman at age six. He married Katherine Tucker in 1932 in Coleman and worked at Martin Brick Co. for 46 years until retiring. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, of Ballinger; one daughter, Lottie Farris of Ballinger; one son, Allen Sikes of Abilene; one brother, A.T. Sikes of Abilene; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to a favorite charity.

Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Sanford Chandler

CARLSBAD, N.M. - Sanford D. Chandler, 65, father of an Abilene resident, died Wednesday in Lubbock.

Services were held Saturday in Carlsbad First Baptist Church with the Revs. Jack Burton and Bob Bacon officiating. Burial was in Carlsbad Cemetery, directed by West Funeral Home.

Mr. Chandler was born in Central, N.M., and graduated from Western High School in 1950. He worked in a smelter in Hurley, N.M., before serving with the U.S. Navy's Seabees. He married Anna Lou Jones in 1956 and graduated from the University of Western New Mexico in 1964. He taught school in Hatch, N.M., and, for 25 years, Carlsbad until retiring in 1987. He was a member of National Educators and New Mexico Educators associations, American and New Mexico Industrial Arts associations, Masonic Lodge 21, Alpha Delta Kappa Men's Association. He was an inductee of the University of Western New Mexico's Hall of Fame. He was a deacon and worked with the youth at First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Carlsbad; one son, Dudley Chandler of Abilene; one daughter, Sherri Chandler of Carlsbad; one brother, R.L. Chandler of Silver City, N.M.; one sister, Jewell May Burke of Silver City, N.M.; two grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
