David Valdez

David S. Valdez, 36, died Tuesday in Houston.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Gethsemani Spanish Assembly of God with the Rev. Amos Garza officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by North's Funeral Home, 4002 Buffalo Gap Road.

Mr. Valdez was born in Knox City and moved to Abilene in 1961. He attended Abilene High School and worked as a contract painter in Abilene until moving to Houston in 1994. He was a member of the Assembly of God in Houston.

Survivors include three daughters, Marlena Valdez, Crystal Valdez and Michelle Valdez, all of Abilene; his father, Jesse Valdez Jr. of Houston; one brother, Robert Valdez of Abilene; three sisters, Lydia Garza of White Settlement, and Mary Flores and Sylvia Valdez, both of Abilene; his grandmother, Margarita Valdez of Abilene; and two grandchildren.

The family will be at 1626 Briarwood.

Jarrett Scott Pinckley Jr.

MERKEL - Jarrett Scott Pinckley Jr., 90, died Thursday in Abilene.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Merkel First Baptist Church with the Revs. Jimmy Griffith, Kenneth F. Jones and Van Gauthe officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.

Mr. Pinckley was born in Denton County and married Laura Mae Jowers in 1934 in Abilene. He was a farmer and rancher. He helped organize the Merkel Riding Club and was a director of Farmers Co-Op Gin. He was a Sunday school secretary for 25 years at First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Merkel; one daughter, Sue Gauthe of Dothan, Ala.; three sisters, Sue Morgan of Perryton, Marcella Patterson of Abilene and Fay Reeve of Friona; and one grandchild.

Memorials may be sent to Merkel Cemetery Association, 201 Edwards, Merkel 79536.

Ann Croft

BRECKENRIDGE - Ann Croft, 48, died Thursday in a Fort Worth hospital.

Mass will be said at 1 p.m. today in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church with Bishop Jack Leo Iker and the Rev. Craig Reed officiating. The body will be cremated. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 18 in Church of the Redeemer in Sarasota, Fla. with the Rev. Charles Bennett officiating. The cremains will be buried in Memorial Garden at the Church of the Redeemer in Sarasota. Arrangements are being made by McMillan-Satterwhite Funeral Home of Graham.

Mrs. Croft was born in Clearwater, Fla., and married the Rev. C. Carter Croft in 1982 in Tampa, Fla. She graduated from nursing school in Florida and worked as a licensed vocational nurse. She moved to Breckenridge in 1996.

Survivors include her husband, of Breckenridge; one daughter, Joanna Davis of Sarasota, Fla.; one son, James Davis of Sarasota, Fla.; and one brother, Mickey Davis of Tampa, Fla.

Memorials may be sent to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 590, Breckenridge 76424.

The body will be at the church beginning at 10 a.m. today.

Russell Burnell Nixon

SAN ANGELO - Russell Burnell Nixon, 82, brother of two Snyder residents, died Thursday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. James Mitchell and Gene Talbot officiating. Burial will be in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Nixon was born in Paris, Texas, and married Ada Smith in 1937 in Levelland. He moved to San Angelo in 1979 and was a retired employee of Santa Fe Railroad. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of San Angelo; one daughter, Carolyn Nixon of Hurst; and three sisters, Leota Condray of San Angelo, and Mavis Overman and Helen Nixon, both of Snyder.

Opal Green Harrison

BRECKENRIDGE - Opal Green Harrison, 78, formerly of Albany, died Thursday at her home.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Albany Cemetery with the Rev. Don Clevenger officiating, directed by Godfrey-Neese Funeral Home of Albany.

Mrs. Harrison was born in Marietta, Okla., and worked as a licensed vocational nurse since 1963. She co-established Albany's first nursing home at the southwest corner of Second Street and Jacobs. It later was moved into the building now occupied by the Shackelford County Community Resource Center. She also was employed by Shackelford County Hospital and Albany-area nursing homes. She was the widow of Howard Green, whom she married in 1934 in Marietta, Okla. She married Percy Harrison in 1986 in Palo Pinto and was a member of the Assembly of God.

Survivors include her husband, of Breckenridge; one son, Hugh Green of Albany; two stepsons, Charles Harrison of Keller and Walter Harrison of Breckenridge; two grandchildren; five step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and 14 step great-grandchildren.

Sarah Moor

ASPERMONT - Sarah Moor, 70, died Thursday in a Denton hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Aspermont First Baptist Church with the Rev. Barry Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Aspermont Cemetery, directed by McCoy Funeral Home.

Mrs. Moor was born in Big Spring and was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was the widow of Lonnie Moor, whom she married in 1942 in Paducah.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Moor of Sanford, Mich., and David Moor of Aubrey, Texas; one daughter, Margaret Laird of Cisco; one sister, Ruth Wear of Belton; two brothers, Charlie Hughes of Burkburnett and R.J. Hughes of Fort Smith, Ark.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 4601 Hartford, Abilene 79605; or American Heart Association, 149 N. Willis, Abilene 79603.

Lee Roy Lyon

BANGS - Lee Roy Lyon, 82, formerly of Rising Star, died Thursday in a Brownwood hospital.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel in Rising Star with Dick Williams and Jimmy Allen officiating. Burial will be in Rising Star Cemetery.

Mr. Lyon was born in Rising Star and married Pernie Hammonds in 1946 in San Antonio. He was a veteran of World War II, and the Korean and Iwo Jima conflicts, and retired as a master sergeant in 1964 after a 24-year career in the U.S. Air Force. He moved to Bangs in 1991 from Devine and was a member of American Legion and Bangs Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Bangs; one son, Kelly Lyon of Devine; one daughter, Kay Beth Lyon of Midland; two brothers, Herman Lyon of Cleburne and Jerry Lyon of Mason; three sisters, Virginia Harvey of Stephenville, and Carrie Emma Woods and Mary Frances Kent, both of Mason; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Beulah Watters

STAMFORD - Beulah Watters, 91, died Friday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Stamford First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Riddlehoover officiating. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. in Spur Cemetery, directed by Tankersley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Watters was born in Cross Cut and was a homemaker. She moved to Stamford in 1974 from Spur. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was the widow of Clarence Watters, whom she married in 1923 in Cross Plains.

Survivors include one daughter, Bobbie Glenn of Stamford; one sister, Pat Trude of Visalia, Calif.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Sarilda Boggess

BALLINGER - Sarilda D. Boggess, 92, lifelong area resident, died Friday in Ballinger.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First Presbyterian Church with James Beverley officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, directed by Rains-Seale Funeral Home.

Mrs. Boggess was born in San Saba and was a homemaker. She was the widow of Milton Eugene Boggess, whom she married in 1930 in Ballinger.

Survivors include two sons, Bill Boggess of Ballinger and Clyde Boggess of Arlington; 11 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
