James "Jimmy" Becker
James "Jimmy" Becker, 83 years of age, of Brenham, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 22, 2016. Visitation with the family will be at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening. Funeral services for James will be on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. from Salem Lutheran Church of Salem, with burial to follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery. James is survived by his wife, Betty, and his children, Cindy Reimer and husband, Glenn; Ronnie Becker and wife, Cindy Waits Becker; grandchildren, Jason Reimer and special friend, Alyssa Volk; Blake Becker and wife, Johanna; Jeremy Reimer and wife, Taylor; Carly Becker; and Macie Becker; and great-grandchildren, McKenna Grace Reimer and Carter James Reimer. He is also survived by his brother, Willie Becker and wife, Joyce of Jersey Village; sister, Florene Juergens and husband, Ronnie of Brenham, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Sr. and Ella Becker; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Selma and Charlie Boeker; and sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and C. B. Schroeder, Jr. Funeral arrangements for James “Jimmy” Becker are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.

Ruth Wiese Thomas
Funeral services for Ruth Wiese Thomas, 87, widow of Clyde Thomas, will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, December 19, 2016 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastors Phil Fenton and Brianna Merkle officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Ruth passed away December 15, 2016 at Scott and White Hospital in Brenham. Ruth is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Debbie Thomas; granddaughter, Linda Dale Tosta and husband, Ryan; great-grandchildren: Haylie Lynn, Logun Richard, and Braden Scot Tosta; Kimberley Wage Lewis and husband, David; Alex and Aireal Lewis, and Kori Wage; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bill and Joyce Thomas, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding her in death was her husband, Clyde Thomas; her parents; and a sister, Nancy Claire Wiese. Funeral arrangements for Ruth Thomas are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main.

Nadividad "Nate" Preuss
Funeral services for Nadividad “Nate” Preuss, 76, of Brenham, TX of Brenham are scheduled for 10:00am on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Brenham Memorial Chapel in Brenham with Deacon Al Prescott officiating. Burial will follow in the Giddings City Cemetery in Giddings. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 16, from 6:00 – 8:00pm at Brenham Memorial Chapel in Brenham with a Rosary being recited at 7:30pm. Nadividad (Martinez) Preuss was born on December 25, 1939, in Smiley, TX to Joe & Maxine (Rivera) Martinez. She married L. M. Preuss, Jr. and together they ran Miller’s Cleaners in Brenham and City Cleaners in Giddings for many years. Nate passed away on Monday, December 12th in Houston. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, L. M. Preuss, Jr. Nate is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ernest & Gaylynn Preuss of Giddings; three step-children, L. M. “Buddy” Preuss, III & his wife, Louise of Giddings, Ronna Britton & her husband, James of Giddings and Karen Bryant of Austin; six grandchildren, Leslie Preuss of Bedford, Ashley & Brandon Alder of Ft. Worth, Andrew & Gabriela Preuss of Giddings, Jennifer Petty-Garay of Bryan, Sarah & Chaz Fairchild-Smith of Resaca, GA and Kaitlynn Preuss of Giddings; one brother, Joe Martinez, Jr. & his wife, Katherine of Brenham; one sister, Mary Meschwitz & her husband Lawrence of Brenham; one half-brother, Felipe Silvas & his wife, Sylvia of Texas City as well as several nieces and nephews. Memorial may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements by Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.

Edward "Mouse" Studhalter
Edward “Mouse” Studhalter, 83, husband of Judy (Merkel) Studhalter, passed away December 14, 2016. Visitation with the family will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday at Memorial Oaks Chapel. A graveside service is scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Friedens Cemetery in Gay Hill. Pastor Matthew Jacobs will officiate. After the service, relatives and friends will gather at the Grace Lutheran Church Family Activity Center to celebrate Mouse’s life. Survivors include his wife, Judy Studhalter; son and daughter-in-law James and Karen Studhalter, all of Brenham; grandchildren: Brett Studhalter and friend Heather Rinn, and Larissa and Jeff Maass; brother and sister-in-law Edwin and Annie Mae Studhalter of Brenham; sister and brother-in-law Evelyn and Milton Haack of Brenham. Other surviving relatives are his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Rick and Diane Merkel, and Elfred and Sue Ellen Pfeffer. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Clara Studhalter; brother and sister-in-law Pete and Adeline Studhalter; sister and brother-in-law Walline and Olan Searle; father-in-law and mother-in-law Karl and Helen Merkel, and sisters-in-law, Barbara Helen Merkel and Erna Pfeffer. Regina (Minar) Bilski
Regina (Minar) Bilski, 90, of Brenham, passed away peacefully in her home with family and friends celebrating her ninety-first birthday on Sunday, December 11, 2016. Regina (Minar) Bilski is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy “Dot” and Ben Schroeder Jr., Rose and Robert Morgenstern; grandchildren, Keith Schroeder & wife Rhonda, Courtney Percic and partner Chase Woodlock, John Percic & wife Kelly; great-grandchildren, Kodi Schroeder, Kaitlin Schroeder, Kaden Schroeder along with numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation with Regina Bilski’s family will begin at 5:30 until 7:00 p.m., at which time a rosary will be prayed in Brenham Memorial Chapel on Thursday, December 15. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 16 also in Brenham Memorial Chapel with Deacon Al Prescott as officiant. Interment will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Genevieve Jurek Giles
Genevieve Jurek Giles, 91, widow of Robert Giles, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2016 in Brenham, Texas. Mrs. Giles’ survivors include her daughters: Jennifer and husband, Mark Siemsglusz; and Mary and husband, Lance Kuecker (all of Brenham); seven grandchildren: Christopher Siemsglusz and friend, Emily Leitko (both of Houston); Mary Catherine (Siemsglusz) and husband, Matt David (Rayne, Louisiana); William Kuecker and wife, Jacqui (Denver, Colorado); Robbie Kuecker (Denton); Sara Siemsglusz (Brenham) and friend Justin Dreyer (College Station); James Kuecker (Brenham); and Caroline Kuecker (Brenham); as well as her brothers: Dr. George Jurek (Waco); Richard Jurek and wife, Rita (Waco); sister, Rita Ann and husband, Dr. O. B. Shelburne (Austin); and six nieces and six nephews. The visitation with the Giles family will be held at Brenham Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, December 14 from 5-7 p.m., with rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial for Genevieve Jurek Giles will be held Thursday, December 15 at 2 p.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church Parish Activity Center on South Park Street, due to construction in the church sanctuary. A reception at the St. Mary’s PAC center will follow the graveside service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Mary’s Family Choir, St. Mary’s Catholic Center at Texas A&M University or Bread Partners of Washington County. Services are in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer St., Brenham, TX.

Adela Schroeder
Adela Schroeder, 92, of the William Penn community, died December 10, 2016 at Brenham Rest Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday 2 p.m. December 14, 2016 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn with Pastor Mark Moldenhauer officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will be receiving friends and relatives Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Harven Schroeder, son and daughter-in-law; Dennis Wayne Schroeder and wife Patricia, son Ricky Schroeder; a daughter, Rebecca Schroeder; four brothers Edwin, Ernest, Ervin, and Oscar Hinze, also preceded in death by her sisters Alma Gaskamp and Laura Holtkamp. Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law; Larry and Rebecca Schroeder, James Walter and Kathryn Schroeder of Brenham; one sister, Doris Becker of Navasota, and grandchildren; Scott and Kandace Schroeder, Jon and Jaime Schroeder, Brett and Jennifer Schroeder, Lisa and Roland Denner, Leigh Anne and Jerome Cavner. Her great-grandchildren are Tanner Schroeder, Jaden and Justin Schroeder, Samantha Star Cavner, Diane and Eric Perkins, Kylliee Moore, Trinity Perkins, Tyler and Taylor Denner. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements for Adela Schroeder are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.

Virgine (Baron) Rosenbaum
Virgine (Baron) Rosenbaum, age 82 of Brenham and the widow of Irvin A. Rosenbaum, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016. Mrs. Rosenbaum is survived by: daughter, Carol Ann Sommerfeld and husband Roger of Carmine; sons, Gary Rosenbaum and wife Diana of Brenham, and Larry Rosenbaum and wife Dixie of Round Top; grandchildren, Justin and Elizabeth Sommerfeld of Edna, Melissa and Jason Smith of Carmine, Sean and Jill Rosenbaum of Brenham; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Austin Sommerfeld, and Makayla and Jake Smith; sister, Gladys Hodde and husband Leroy, of Brenham; brother, Leroy Baron and wife Jean, of Brenham; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Earl and Janet Rosenbaum of Brenham, sister-in-law Ella Mae Love, of Brenham; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation with the Rosenbaum family will be held at Brenham Memorial Chapel, Tuesday, December 13, 2016, from 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral services for Virgine Rosenbaum will be held at Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville, Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Pat Lehrer officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions are requested to Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville or a charity of your choice. Services are in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer St in Brenham.

Wilbert Louis Gross
Wilbert Louis Gross, 82, of La Grange, passed away, December 6, 2016 at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange. Wilbert was born in New Ulm, TX on December 12, 1933 the son of Davy and Norma (Krause) Gross. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church New Ulm. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1951. He married Ruby Schuette on December 4, 1955 in La Grange, TX. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1956. They moved to Houston in early 1957 and Wilbert worked for Atlas Bradford Company until May, 1963 when they moved to La Grange where he worked for Kirchhofer & Koopmann Sand and Gravel and Ready Mix Concrete Co. Wilbert bought his father-in-law’s interest in the company after Mr. Kirchhofer retired and the company was renamed K&D Ready Mix Sand & Gravel. The company was sold in 1975 and Wilbert then delved into politics. He ran for Commissioner of Pct. #3 and was elected in Nov. 1980. He served as Commissioner for 24 years and retired from Fayette County the end of 2004. He returned in 2016 and served as the Interim Commissioner until the position was filled. Wilbert was active in his church where he served four terms in the church council and on the church building and grounds committee. He was a member of the Flatonia Lion’s Club for 24 years and served as President of the Sons of Hermann Plum Lodge #238. He loved sports which included golf, baseball, football, hunting and fishing. He is survived by son, Byron Gross and wife, Katie; daughter, Carmen Gross; grandchildren: Vivian Gest, Hannah Hunter, Henry and Halle Gross, all of La Grange; two brothers: Milford Gross and wife, Lucille, of Bellville; Lew Ellyn and wife, Alice, of New Ulm; sister-in-law, Anna Gross of Fayetteville, and numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby; son-in-law, Daniel Gest; brother, Kirby Gross; two infant sons and one infant daughter; infant bothers; father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Isabella Kirchhofer. Visitation will be held of Friday, December 9, from 10:00am – 7:00pm at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 110 W. Walnut, La Grange, TX at 10:00am on Saturday, December 10. Burial will follow at La Grange City Cemetery. Benjamin Franklin Gunter Jr.
(July 21, 1954 - September 23, 2011)
Memorial services for Benjamin Gunter Jr., 57 of Ledbetter, Texas, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings with Rev. Tom Long officiating.
Benjamin Franklin Gunter Jr. was born on July 21, 1954 in Giddings, Texas to Benjamin Gunter Sr. & Betty Beaman Gunter. He graduated from Giddings High School and married Gloria Henry on May 10, 1997. Benjamin was a drywall applicator who enjoyed gardening, helping others and loved building things.
Benjamin died unexpectedly as a result of an automobile accident on Friday, September 23, 2011 in Houston, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Benjamin is survived by his wife, Gloria Gunter of Ledbetter; two sons, Jon Gunter of Houston and Shawn Kirkham of Ledbetter; two daughters, Liz Gunter of Giddings and April Kirkham of Giddings; two grandchildren, Savannah Creppel and Brooke Creppel both of Giddings; three brothers, Joe Gunter of Ledbetter, Bill Gunter of Ledbetter and Travis & Lynn Gunter of Giddings; five sisters, Johnnie & Dwayne Reynolds of Caldwell, Terry & Melvin Iselt of Ledbetter, Barbara & Gene Coker of Livingston, Patsy & Cecil Buscha of Lincoln and Susie & Gary Wrinkle of Orange Grove as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members and friends.

Robert Searle, Jr.
Robert Searle, Jr., 65, husband of Sandra Kohring Searle, died December 3, 2016. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn, with Pastor Mark Moldenhauer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Searle of Washington; mother, Mary Alice Keller (Bill); son and daughter-in-law, Lance and Tracy Searle of Brenham; grandchildren, Emily and Lucas Searle; brothers Ronald Searle, Edward Searle, and Allen Searle; sister, Rebecca Searle, sisters-in-law Barbara Kohring, Pat Kohring, and Marilyn Klussmann; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Jerry and Doris Kohring, Valgene and Diana Kohring, Danny Kohring, Kathryn and Joe Martinez, Diane and Chuck Boggan, and Rebecca and Ray Wellmann. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister. Funeral arrangements for Robert Searle, Jr. are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.

Paul Francis LaRoche, Jr.
Paul Francis LaRoche, Jr. passed away on December 2, 2016. He was born on August 23, 1923 in Dallas. He is survived by his daughter Linda LaRoche Blum and husband Darrell, son Dr. Paul F. LaRoche III and wife Charlotte, 6 grandchildren Catherine Blum Kenjura and husband Matt, Emily Blum Lee and husband Warren, Ben Wagner and wife Misti, Cole Wagner and wife Annette, Dr. Lauren LaRoche Neumann and husband Travis, and Paul F. (Rocky) LaRoche IV and wife Kelcie, 12 great-grandchildren, brother William E. LaRoche, sister-in-law Dorothy Utesch and husband Rowland Ball and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Renovation Fund, St. Paul’s Christian Day School, or Hospice Brazos Valley. Visitation with the family will be at Memorial Oaks Chapel on Sunday, December 4, 2016 from 5:00 -7:00 pm. A celebration of his life will take place on Monday, December 5, 2016 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Brenham at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Phil Fenton officiating.
