John L. Cochrane
Died: Tuesday, November 23, 1999
John L. Cochrane, 58, Dunkirk, died Nov. 23, 1999 at his son's residence in Waynesfield.
He was born March 12, 1941 in Lima, to Rockford L. and Bertha M. (Baughman) Cochrane, who preceded him in death. On March 6, 1965, he married Linda K. Brentlinger, and she survives in Delphos.
Survivors also include a son, Shane M. Cochrane of Waynesfield; a daughter, Cindy E. (Richard) Johnson of Newark; a granddaughter, Kathryn E. Cochrane of Waynesfield; two grandsons, Dylan D. and Logan L. Johnson, both of Newark; a sister, Vivian (Ralph) Spradlin of Lakeview; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roger and Joe Cochrane.
Mr. Cochrane was a maintenance man for Ken Jarvis on a swine farm. He also worked as a plumber and welder.
Services were held Nov. 27 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with the Rev. Forrest Edward Jarrell officiating. Burial was in Roundhead Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rita's Hospice Care and /or Hardin County Cancer Society.

Edith O. Ogle
Died: Monday, November 22, 1999
Edith O. Ogle, 81, Lima, died Nov. 22, 1999 at her residence.
She was born Jan. 30, 1918, in LIma to Elmer and Gertrude Louden Judy. On Nov. 7, 1942, she married Benjamin Ogle, who died in 1957.
Survivors include a sister in the area, Maxine Contris of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, and a sister.
Mrs. Ogle worked at the downtown Kewpee for the last 24 years. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and the Benevolent nd Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54 Auxiliary.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Nov. 27 at St. Rose Catholic Church, with the Rev. J. Norbert Howe officiating. Burial was in Gethsemani Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent dePaul Society.

John J. Hawk
Died: Thursday, November 18, 1999
John J. Hawk, 70, Lafayette, died Nov. 18, 1999 at Lima Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 29, 1929, in Lima to John Andrew and Lenna Hefner Hawk. On April 5, 1952, he married Lillian A. Carter, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 11, 1995.
Survivors include two sons, William Allen Hawk and John Earl (Sue) Hawk, both of Lafayette; one daughter, Aleda K. Hawk of Beaverdam; three brothers, Dick Hawk of Lafayette, and Russ Hawk and Oliver Hawk, both of Lima; four sisters, Mary Barber and Mildred Servis, both of Beaverdam, Francis Tussing of Waynesfield, and Katherine Herron of Rockport; two grandchildren; and a special friend, Mary Fitzgerald of Lima.
He was prededed in death by a daughter, Gayle Jean Hawk; one brother, Clifford Hawk; and five sisters, Helen Lawrence, Edith Hawk, Bertha Holt, Margaret Hawk and Dertha May Hawk.
Mr. Hawk was a self-employed farmer and machine operator with Ford Motor Company retiring after 32 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II. He was a member of the FOE #370 and the Ada VFW #9381.
Services were held Nov. 22 at Chiles and Sons-Laman Lewis Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Downey officiating. Burial was in Liberty Chapel Cemetery. Military rites were given by the Ada VFW #9381.

George "Mike" Hurst
Died: Friday, November 12, 1999
George Mike Hurst, 47, Lima, died Nov. 12, 1999 at Veteran's Hospital, Dayton.
He was born May 22, 1952, in Lima to Edward Hurst and Elnore Brooks Feathers. His father survives in Lima and his mother survives in Indian Lake. On June 20, 1994, he married Janice Rockhill, who survives.
Survivors also include a son, Shane Minnich of St. Marys; two daughters, Michelle Peirce of Ada and Sheila Minnich of St. Marys; a stepson, Bradley (Cindy) Wilson of Waynesfield; a stepdaughter, Robin Wilson of Lima; two brothers, Eddie Dean Hurst and Ray Hurst, both of Lima; a sister, Edna Sue Bartlett of Lafayette; a stepsister, Beverly Wooten of Lima; two grandchildren and seven stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Forest Chick Feathers.
Mr. Hurst was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church and American Legion Post 96. He was a student at Lima Technical College.
Services were held Nov. 16 at Chiles and Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, Lewis Chapel. Burial was in Ward Cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or St. Rita's Hospice.

Nellie Wasik Risman
Died: Thursday, November 11, 1999
Nellie Wasik Risman, 84, Landenberg, Pa., died of heart failure on Nov. 11, 1999 at Christiana Hospital, Newark, Del.
She was born on June 18, 1914, in Port Chester, N.Y., to the late Roman and Caroline Wasik. She married John Riseman who preceded her in death in 1970. In June of 1997, she moved to Ladenberg from her home in Port Chester to reside her daughter, Virginia.
Survivors include a two daughters, Virginia (Joseph) Frattarola of Landeberg, Pa., and Judith (Ronald) Kipker of Ada; a son, Donald of Regal Park, N.Y.; a brother, Fred Wasik of Port Chester, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Gary Frattarola, Aniela Frattarola, Shawna Gillespie, John Risman, John Kipker and Jason Kipker; and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Risman was a voracious reader with a keen intellect and a particular interest in the American political scene.
A memorial service was held in Byram, Conn. Interment was at Greenwood Union Cemetery, Rye, N.Y.

Bun Montgomery, Sr.
Died: Wednesday, November 10, 1999
Bun Montgomery, Sr., 78, Brandon,Fla., formerly of Ada, died Nov. 10, 1999 at his residence.
He was born July 7, 1921 in Blue River, Ky., to Dayrus and Lula (Hale) Montgomery. On Feb. 5, 1942, he married Ora Thacker and she died April 6, 1977. He later married the former Retha Wright, and she survives in Brandon, Fla.
Survivors also include two daughters, Barbara (Leonard) Earl of Nakomis, Fla. and Jackie (Marshall) Trautwein of Crestwood, Ky.; three sons, Bun (Lucille) Montgomery of Anamosa, Iowa, Forrest (Orselina) Montgomery of Brandon, Fla., and Jeff (Karen) Montgomery of Ada; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Shawn Wright of Pikeville, Ky., and Melissa Wright of Placeville, Ky.; one stepson, Jonathan Wright of Brandon, Fla.; two sisters, Dorcus Music and Thelma (Billie) Pruitt, both of Prestonsburg, Ky.; and two brothers, Roy (Betty) Montgomery of Prestonsburg, Ky., and Forrest Montgomery of Pittsburgh, Pa.
Mr. Montgomery was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ada; a former member of the Ada Masonic Lodge #344 F. & A.M. and a social member of the Ada V.F.W. Post 9381. He was a retired homebuilder; he formerly had worked at Westinghouse Corporation of Lima for 10 years and retired from Ford Motor Company of Lima, as a foreman.
Graveside services were held Nov. 15 at Preston Cemetery in Alger, with the Rev. James Webb officiating. Arrangements were by Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Ada.

Ruth U. Calvert
Died: Monday, November 8, 1999
Ruth U. Calvert, 88, Lima, died Nov. 8, 1999 at Lima Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 11, 1911, in Allen County to Cloyd V. and Augusta G. Baker Gossard. On Dec. 6, 1930, she married J. Robert W. Calvert, who died May 2, 1974.
Survivors include two daughters from the area, Wanda (Ronald) Dodds of Lafayette, and Donna (Richard) Dirmeyer of Harrod.
She was preceded in death by a son, four brothers and a sister.
Mrs. Calvert was a homemaker. She attended Lafayette Congregational Christian Church.
Services were held Nov. 12 at Chiles and Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, Lewis Chapel, by the Rev. Robert R. Brown. Burial was in Willow Branch Cemetery, Waynesfield.
Memorials may be made to Visiting Nurses Association or Lima Memorial Hospice.

Melvin R. Furry
Died: Monday, November 8, 1999
Melvin R.Furry, 57, Lafayette, died Nov. 8, 1999 at Lima Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.
He was born Jan. 6, 1942 in Harrod, to William Edgar and Corda (Stubbs) Furry. On July 12, 1975, he married Joyce King, and she survives in Lafayette.
Survivors also include a son, Patrick Furry at home; two daughters, Tina (Tony) Lawrence of Ada, and Pamela Furry at home; two brothers, Thomas (Sheila)Furry of Harrod, and Richard (Carol) Furry of Lafayette; a sister, Sara (Roger) Jones of Harrod; and three grandchildren, Daric Lawrence, Daniel Szippl and Brittany Lawrence.
Mr. Furry retired from Ford Motor Company, Lima, after 26 years as an assembly line worker. He was a member of the UAW-CIO #1219 of Lima. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Services will be held Thursday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Alger, with Pastor Robert Brown officiating. Burial will be in Auglaize Cemetery (Faulkner Rd.), Harrod. Graveside military services will be conducted by Ada Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9138.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 2 and 6 p.m. and until time of services at the funeral home in Alger on Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Donald M. Hougendobler
Died: Monday, November 8, 1999
Donald M. Hougendobler, 78, Kenton, died Nov. 8, 1999 at Hardin Memorial Hospital.
He was born Jan. 15, 1921, in Wyandot County, to Ace Earl and Vera (Newell) Hougendobler. He was married to Lois Ann Jones, and they divorced. On Dec. 11, 1987, he married Maxine Haynes, who survives.
Survivors also include local resident, a stepdaughter, Sandra (Bob) Jordan of Ada.
He was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was a member of Marseilles United Methodist Church, the Hardin County Farm Bureau, Hardin County Pork Producers, 10-23 Radio Club of Marion, and a former member of Maple Grange.
Services were held Nov. 11 at Price Funeral Home, Kenton, by Pastor Kevin Pees. Burial was in Grove Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Marseilles United Methodist Church.

Eloise A. Hawk
Died: Sunday, November 7, 1999
Eloise A. Hawk, 80, Lima, died Nov. 7, 1999 at her residence.
She was born July 30, 1919, in Lima to Ralph and Anna Dapehdall Hasson. On June 14, 1937, she married James Harold Hawk, who died June 22, 1975.
Area survivor includes a daughter, Shirley (Charles) Green of Dunkirk.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Mrs. Hawk was a lab technician for Lauer, Webb, Fowler and McFarland Orthodontist for 15 years and had worked at Westinghouse Corp. for 16 years. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, where she was a member of its Women's Circle, choir, Altar Guild and Semperfidelis Sunday school class. She was a member of West Ohio Quilters Association, the Lima Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was a volunteer at the Lima Convalescent Home.
Services were held this morning, Nov. 10 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Arthur Wilde and Debra Domeier officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Women's Circle at the church.

Frank Kindle
Died: Sunday, November 7, 1999
Frank Kindle, 79, Dunkirk, died Nov. 7, 1999 at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton.
He was born June 16, 1920, in Dola, to Oscar and Lena (Kindle) Kindle. On Nov. 16, 1946, he married Elizabeth Clark, who survives.
Survivors also include one son, Mike (Jolene) Kindle of Dunkirk; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Mr. Kindle was the owner and operator of Frank's Garage in Dunkirk. He drove a school bus for Hardin Northern School and was a former council member and mayor of Dunkirk. He was a member of Kenton Moose Lodge and Kenton Elks Lodge 157.
There will be no service.
Memorials contributions may be made to Hardin Hospice Care or a charity of the donor's choice.

Delano R. Kahler
Died: Friday, November 5, 1999
Delano R. Kahler, 66, Cridersville, died Nov. 5, 1999 at his residence.
He was born April 26, 1933, to Alfred and Sarah (Cummins) Kahler in Hardin County.
Survivors include a nephew, Gary Kahler; and two nieces, Delores Kahler and Peggy Ziegler.
Mr. Kahler served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 and a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370, both in Lima.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation as the body has been cremated.
Arrangements are by Bayliff and Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, and the Ohio Cremation and Memorial Society, Cridersville.

Pat Spencer
Died: Thursday, November 4, 1999
Pat Spencer, 89, Harrod, died Nov. 4, 1999 at his residence.
He was born Feb. 8, 1910 in Harrod, to Thomas J. and Ida Belle (Sanders) Spencer. On Dec. 8, 1934, he married Ila M. Smith and she survives in Harrod.
Survivors also include two sons, Thomas J. Spencer of Harrod, and Joe (Veona) Spencer of Lima; three daughters, Betty (Jim) Plikerd of Lima, Jean (Leo) Motter of Dola, and Kay (Ed) Batch of Waynesfield; one brother, Cody (Ruth) Spencer of Wapakoneta; two sisters, Hazel Binkley and Chrystal Neeley, both of Waynesfield; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Spencer was a farmer. He attended the New Hampshire Church of the Nazarene, New Hampshire, Ohio.
Services were held Nov. 6 at New Hampshire Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Curtis Randolph officiating. Burial was in Willow Branch Cemetery, Waynesfield.
Memorials may be made to the New Hampshire Church of the Nazarene Building Fund or Ohio Parkinson Foundation.

Darrell Junior Clay
Died: Tuesday, November 2, 1999
Darrell Junior Clay, 79, Lima, died Nov. 2, 1999 at his residence.
He was born Aug. 20, 1920, in Lincoln County, W.Va., to Henry and Lavada Josephine Josie Blevins Clay. On Oct. 23, 1941, he married Wilcie Nell White, who survives.
Area survivor also includes a brother, Harry Clay of McGuffey.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Mr. Clay retired in 1982 from the Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant after 23 years and had been a mine worker for 14 years in West Virginia. He was a member of Elm Street Church of Christ. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 and United Auto Workers Local 1219. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Services were held Nov. 6 at Chiles and Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. R. Darrell Clay officiated. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum, with military rites by VFW Post 1275.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rita's Hospice or ARC Camp Robin Rogers.

Charles L. Bible
Died: Monday, November 1, 1999
Charles L. Bible, 74, Lima, died Nov. 1, 1999 at Lima Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 27, 1925, in Lima to Leo F. and Clara McElroy Bible. On April 22, 1967, he married Shirley Kurtz Williams, who survives.
Area survivor also includes a son, Rick (Marilee) Bible of Harrod.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Bible retired in 1987 as a warehouseman with Scot Lad Foods. He was a member of First Church of God.
Services were held Nov. 5 at Chiles and Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, Lewis Chapel. The Rev. Kenneth Mishler officiated. Burial was in Salem Cemetery, Westminster.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
