Mrs. Freda L. Williams, 71, of Eleanor died March 17, 2003, at home.
She was a Christian. She was preceded in death by her sister, Avalene McKneely.
Surviving: husband, Billy G. Williams; children and their spouses, Russell L. and Barbara Williams of Bidwell, Ohio, Keith A. Williams of Eleanor, Michelle L. and Carl Williams of Eleanor; sister, Audrey Arthur of Confidence; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Service was held Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at Gatens Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Joey Scarberry and Adam Null officiating. Burial was in Schowen Cemetery, Bancroft.

Bailey Scott Withrow
Bailey Scott Withrow, 5, of Hurricane died March 15, 2003, at home.
He was born August 20, 1997 in Charleston and was a student at Winfield Elementary School. He attended Lighthouse Baptist Church, Hurricane, and was a member of the “Celebration” Sunday school class, children’s choir and AWANAs.
He was preceded in death by paternal great-granparents, Ord and Mary Elmore, Ohley Withrow and Gladys Withrow Dunlap; maternal grandfathers, Jack Barnett and Paul Waugh.
Surviving: parents, A. Scott and Sara E. Withrow; baby brother, Nicholas Avery; maternal grandparents, Chester “Butch” and Karen Waugh of St. Albans; paternal grandparents, Alan and Belva Withrow of Cross Lanes; great-grandmothers, Virginia Vaugh of Cross Lanes, Kathleen Pence of Ripley, and Deloris Barnett of Hurricane; uncle, Brian Withrow of Hurricane; special godparents, William and Glenda Davis of Charleston; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Service was held Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at Lighthouse Baptist Church with Pastor Gerry White officiating. Burial was in Floral Hills Gardens of Memories, Sissonville. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests donations be made to Lighthouse Baptist Church, 2440 Route 60, Hurricane WV 25526, in memory of Bailey Withrow.

Alfred G. Parsons
Alfred G. Parsons, 74, of Red House died Monday, March 17, 2003, in Putnam General Hospital following a short illness.
He was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army, a retired employee of Republic Container Co., Nitro, with 31 years of service, and a lifelong resident of Putnam County.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Adam Patrick Parsons.
Surviving: wife, Ruth Luikart Parsons, sons, Gene Parsons and wife, Carolyn of Red House, Randy Parsons and wife, Linda of Red House; daughter, Linda Tucker and husband, Noland of Eleanor; brother, Arthur Parsons of Poca; grandchildren, Ben Parsons and wife, Brigitte of Blacksburg, Virginia, Elizabeth Tucker of Eleanor, Andrew Parsons and Kelli Jo Parsons, both of Red House.
Service was held Thursday, March 20, 2003, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor Dean Roberts officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Memorial Park.

James A. Straughan
James A. Straughan, 64, of Leesburg, Florida, formerly of Winfield, died March 17, 2003, at home.
Surviving: wife, Marshal Straughan; son, James Straughan Jr. ; two stepsons, George and Russell McPhail.
Service was held Friday, March 21 2003, at Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, Red House, with the Rev. Jim Butcher officiating. Burial followed in the memorial gardens. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Diabetes Associaton, or Lake/Sumter County Hospice in Florida.

Garner L. Williams Sr.
The Rev. Garner L. Williams Sr., 71, of Scott Depot, formerly of Leewood, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in CAMC General Division.
He was a retired coal miner, having worked for Bethleham Steel and Ogle Bay Norton Coal Co. at Kayford. He was a former pastor for the Leewood Freewill Baptist Church and was a member of Faith Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving: wife, Rose Ann Elmore Williams; daughters, Connie Caldwell and son-in-law, Alan, of Winfield, and Lois Ann Burdette of Scott Depot; son, Garner Lee Williams Jr. and his wife, Lorie Ann, of Nashville, Indiana; sister, Bonnie Lykens of Birmingham, Alabama; grandchildren, Andrew Ryan Parsons, Jacob Lee Williams, Evan Tyler Burdette, Brittany Nicole Caldwell, Bethany Rose Parsons, and Carley Beth Williams.
Service was held Friday, March 21, 2003, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with the Rev. Darren Ellis and the Rev. John Hayes officiating. Burial was in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.

Andrew T. Jones
Andrew Trenton Jones, 84, of Winfield died March 11, 2003, at home.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He lived in Statesville, North Carolina for 13 years where he was a general manager of Statesville Country Club. He moved back to his birth place, West Virginia, where he worked for the state of West Virginia, as well as held the position of manager of Sleepy Hollow Golf Club. With the last year he resided in Massachusetts with friends he considered family.
He was a lay pastor for three years at Lone Oak Church and a charter member of the St. John United Methodist Church for many years, later withdrawing from the Methodist Church and becoming one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Pauline B. Jones.
Surviving: sister, Elsie Webb of Anderson, South carolina; several nieces and nephews.
Service was held Saturday, March 22, 2003, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Thomas Spaulding officiating. Burial was in Alderson Cemetery, Alderson, West Virginia.

Troy M. Weeks
Troy M. Weeks, 36, of Hurricane died March 19, 2003, of injuries received in a motorcycle accident.
He was a truck driver for Miller Transporters.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Weeks.
Surviving: wife, Diane Weeks; son, Taylor Weeks at home; mother, Dee Weeks of St. Albans; sister, Julie Weeks of Dallas, Georgia; paternal grandmother, Kathlyne Short of South Charleston; nephew, Grant Thiel also of Dallas.
A memorial service was held Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, St. Albans, with Pastor Ron Crum officiating.

Clessie Ann Wright
Clessie Ann Slater Wright, 89, of Poca died March 21, 2003, at Overbrook Nursing Home, Middleport, Ohio, after a short illness.
She was a homemaker and had lived most of her life in Poca. She attended Princeton Apostolic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Wright, daughter, Frances, and sons, Howard and Shirley Earl Wright.
Surviving: son, David and his wife, Janet Wright of Bluefield; daughter, Janey and husband, Eugene Birchfield of Rutland, Ohio; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Golden Slater of Kelley’s Creek, Sissonville; sisters, Esther Casto of Kelley’s Creek and Judy Prather of Poca; three grandchildren that she raised, Shirley Lynn Garner of Raleigh, North Carolina, Melinda Meaige of Myrtle Beach and Scott Wright.
Service was held Monday, March 24, 2003, at Cooke Funeral Home, Nitro, with the Rev. Scott Hall officiating. Burial was in Clark Cemetery, Kelley’s Creek, Sissonville.

Arlen C. Harbour
Arlen Cline “Pone” Harbour, 86, of Hurricane died Friday, March 21, 2003.
He was the second born and last surviving; child of the late Luid and Virgie Harbour. He was retired from IBEW Local 317 and a World War II veteran, Army glider airborne and staff sergeant.
Surviving: daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Gary Smith of Poca; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Sue Harbour of Red House; grandchildren, Robin Davis, Kim Smith and Nikie Rider of Poca, Ashley and Brandy Harbour of Red House, and Gary Smith Jr. of Hurricane; three great-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, one stepgreat-granddaughter.
Service was held Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Minister Bill Edwards and Minister George Erwin officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Margaret Oldaker Daugherty
Margaret Oldaker Daugherty 78 of Lincolnton, North Carolina died Saturday, March 22, 2003, following a long illness. She was born June 13, 1924, in Putnam County, WV to Thomas Richardson Oldaker and Ruby Marie Martin. Margaret graduated from Buffalo High School in Buffalo, WV in 1942. She served in the Navy and Army Air Corp during World War II. She married William W. Daugherty in April of 1946 in Buffalo, WV. She is survived by two sisters, Regina Graley and Phyllis Oldaker, both of Charleston, WV. Daughters, Sharon Isenhour and Karen Galant, both of Gastonia, North Carolina. Sons, John P. Daugherty, William O. Daugherty and Timothy L. Daugherty, all of Lincolnton, NC.; 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Margaret began a career in nursing in 1959 and retired in 1986. Margaret and Bill owned and operated a dairy farm in Putnam County, WV from 1946 until 1959.
Warlick Funeral Home, Lincolnton, NC, was in charge of arrangements. Margaret was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton, NC on Tuesday, March 25, 2003.

Ollice Marie Clark Miller
Ollice Marie Clark Miller, 97, of Milton, departed this life on Wednesday, March 19, 2003 in St. Mary’s Medical Center. She was born February 11, 1906, in Cabell County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late M.A. and Georgia Cowen Clark. She reared her family on Union Ridge with her husband, Clyde Miller, who preceded her in death in 1993. She is survived by one sister, Madeline Lapool; daughters, Betty (and Jack) Pancake, Glenna Jean Powell, and Winalee (and David) Blackwood; nine grandchildren Michael (and Marianne) Sunderland, Charlotte (and Jeff) Vossler, Charlene Powell, Mary (and Steve) Frush, Andy Blackwood, Jim (and Edith) Blackwood, Dan (and Pam) Blackwood, Martha (and Luis) DeLaRosa, and Meredith (and Brent) Sturm; 14 great-grandchildren, Jesse Zeligson Kim Sovine, Jamie Warner, Matt Warner, David U. Blackwood, Matthew Blackwood, Sarah Blackwood, Maggie Blackwood, Claire Blackwood, Carmen DeLaRosa, Luann DeLaRosa, Stephen Sturm, Eric Sturm and Daniel Sturm; one great-great-granddaughter, Alyssa Fazio. She was a member of Union Chapel Church since 1925, and was active in the Ladies’ Aid Society there. She was a long time member of the Milton Garden Club and WVU Extension Clubs, enjoyed attending Milton Senior Citizens’ and was a talented crafter. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 22, 2003, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Rev. Keith Leap, Rev. Ed Hood, and Rev. W. Brent Sturm officiating. Burial in Union Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is establishing the Ollice Miller Fund at Milton United Methodist Church for memorial gifts.

Mrs. Odfie Bias
Mrs. Odfie Bias, 89, of Huntington, widow of Golden Bias, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Heartland of Riverview, South Point, Ohio. Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 21, 2003, at Chapman’s Mortuary with the Rev. Harry M. Scarberry and the Rev. Joe Hutchinson officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. She was born July 28, 1913, at Portersville, W.Va, a daughter of the late Rufus and Annie Jane Mount Dillon. She was a member of 26th Street Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandchild, Raphael Bias; and great-granddaughter Tara Gilkerson. She is survived by a daughter and a son-in-law, Bonnie and Fred Huff of Chesapeake, Ohio; three sons and daughters-in-law, Golden Junior and Yvonne Bias and Leo and Brerkda Bias all of Huntington, Glen and Minnie Bias of Barboursville; two sisters, Hattie Johnson of Barboursville and Loretta Venoy of Milton; a brother, Herbert Dillon of Milton; 10 grandchildren, David Bias and Michael Bias, both of Huntington; Daniel Bias of Fellsmere, Fla., Nicole Bias of Sebastian, Fla., Robin Gilkerson of Lesage, Neisja Kesler of Tampa, Fla., Jarrod Bias of Salt Rock, Eric Bias and Melissa Bias both of Huntington, Mark Huff of Olney, Md.; and 17 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the management and staff of Heartland of Riverview and Hospice of Ashland, Ky, for their devoted love and care.

Eliza Garnet Black Holley
Eliza Garnet Black Holley, 90, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Milton, W.Va., widow of Charles Hager Holley, passed away Monday, March 17, 2003, in Blake Medical Center, Bradenton, Fla. Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 21, 2003, at Chapman’s Mortuary with Dr. Jack K. Mayes and the Rev. Gary Stowasser officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. She was born March 1, 1913, in Milton, W.Va., a daughter of the late Johnny Franklin and Lou Ada Conard Black. She was retired from JC Penney, alterations department and was a former member of Church in the Valley. Eliza was a past matron of Milton Chapter No. 149, Order of the Eastern Star. Also preceding her in death were a son, Simon Hugh Holley; three sisters and five brothers. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Betty L. and Robert Casto of Brandenton, Fla.; a son and daughter-in-law, Hager Holley Jr., and Frances Ann Holley of Huntington; a daughter-in-law, Janet I. Holley of Bradenton, Fla.; two granddaughters, Robin Casto of Bradenton, Fla., and Kimberly A. Jarvis of Barboursville, W.Va.; three grandsons, Michael Casto of German Town, Md., Larry K. Holley of Columbus, Ohio, and Simon H. Holley II, of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

David G. Baumgardner
David G. Baumgardner, 65, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Huntington died Friday, March 14, 2003, in Naples. Mr. Baumgardner had lived in Cincinnati, Ohio, before moving to Naples in 1985. He was last employed as business manager for the YMCA in Naples and in Cincinnati was employed as the bursar at the Cincinnati Bible Seminary. He was a member of the Naples Christian Church. He was a graduate of Huntington East High School (1955) and Marshall University. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Cross Baumgardner; children, Pamela (Douglas) Duffee of Seminole, Fla., Patricia (Tim) Mulford of Naples and Paul (Julie) Baumgardner of Naples. He also is survived by his brother, O.B. Baumgardner of Ironton, Ohio, and eight grandchildren, Kyle, Kayla and Claire Duffee, Lauren and Ashley Mulford, Taylor, Allison and Andrew Baumgardner. Graveside services were conducted on Friday, March 21, 2003, at Woodmere Memorial Park. Henson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Robert Conrad Jr
Robert Conrad Jr., 49, of Washington Court House, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 19, 2003. Funeral service were conducted 2 pm Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at Heck Home, Milton Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. He was born July 20,1953 in Cabell County, West Virginia, a son of the late Robert Sr. and Leona Baumgardner Conrad. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and employed at the Correctional Reception Center in Orient, Ohio, where he was a correctional officer since 1992. He is survived by his wife, Patty; one son, Robert of Greenfield, Ohio; two brothers, Timothy and Ronald Conrad and one sister, Phyllis Salmons all of West Virginia; and many friends and family. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Edward Earl Covington
Edward Earl Covington, 54 of Milton, WV, got the call to come and live with his Heavenly Father on Friday, March 21, 2003, in St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, with Dr. Stan Maynard, Rev. David Ashworth and Rev. Bob Withers officiating. Burial in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. He was born March 31, 1948, in Huntington, W.Va., a son of Mary Covington of Milton W.Va, and the late Earl Covington. He was retired from Owens-Illinois and was a member and deacon of Church in the Valley- He also was a member of Western Star Lodge #11 AF&AM whose members will serve as pallbearers and conduct Masonic Graveside Rites. In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Loretta L. Covington; a son, Edward Earl Covington II of Huntington; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Frances Covington of Milton W Va, and Anne and Bill Nussle of Franklin, Tenn.; his maternal grandmother, Thelma Wall of Milton, WVa, his mother-in-law, Effie Carter of Huntington; a brother-in-law and his wife, Billy and Beth Carter of Atlanta, Ga.; four nieces, Megan Nussle of Franklin, Tenn., and Jessica, Jennifer and Lauren Carter, all of Atlanta, Ga. Expressions of sympathy can be made to Church in the Valley. Chapman’s Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Hazel A. Harman
Hazel A. Harman, 88, of Huntington passed away Friday, March 21, 2003, at her residence. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2003, at Henson Mortuary by the Rev. Sue Jarrett. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Huntington. She was born August 16, 1914, in Isabel S.D., daughter of the late Robert Lee and Ada Dreschler Moore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 52 years, Orville Harman in 1990, and two brothers, Allen and Mike Moore.
Mrs. Harman lived a life rich in experiences, and endearing times with family, her many friends at Pea Ridge Untied Methodist Church, the Cabell Huntington Hospital gift shop, garden club and thoughtful neighbors. Second to her love of family and friends were the joys and passion she drew from working in her garden. She also had many family and friends on her computer list. She was a member of Pea Ridge United Methodist Church since 1972, and was involved with the Dorcas Quilting Club and the Pea Ridge Garden Club. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Connie and James Johnson of Dunnellton, Fla, Carolyn and David Turk of Valencia, Calif., Janet and Mark Ferguson of Venice, Fla., Wayne and Lucy Harman of Fredericksburg, Va., Dr. Gene Harman of Brentwood, Tenn.,; she was deeply loved by her grandchildren, Sally, Goodloe, Walt, Pam, Scott, Michael, Jena, Kellyn, Byron, Kent, Lisa and Aaron; and greatgrandchildren. Amanda, Danielle, Kayla, Caroline, Jacob and Abby.
She also is survived by two brothers and their wives, Dr. Roland and Betty Moore of Lakeland Fla., and Clark and Doris Moore of Rock Island, Ill. Dillard Odel Lucas, 45, of Salt Rock died March 19, 2003. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville by Pastor Phil Chapman. Burial in Lucas Cemetery, Ranger, W.Va. He was born on March 10, 1958, in West Hamlin, a son of the late Leonard and Marie Bills Lucas. He is survived by three daughters, Amanda Martin of North Carolina, Melissa Lucas, of Salt Rock and Lilly Walker of Huntington, one son, Collie Lucas of Huntington, and their mother, Missy; six sisters, Shirley Newman of Huntington, Myrtle Clonch of Milton, Elizabeth Shafer of Barkers Ridge, Louise Gibson and Freda Harless, both of Salt Rock and Nina Breedlove of Milton; three brothers, Roy Nelson of Huntington, Luther Nelson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Tommy Lucas of Salt Rock; one grandchild, Caleb Martin. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Garnett Matline Martin
Garnett Matline Martin, 80, of Ona, widow of Wilmont “Shorty” Martin, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2003, in St Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, with minister Bud Lucas officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. She was born April 18,1922 in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Earl and Gillie Hayes Mount. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Johnson, and a brother, Ernest Mount. She was a special homemaker and formerly worked at Blue Jay Manufacturing. She was a member of the Milton Church of Christ. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Twyla and David L Simpkins of Ona; three grandchildren, Lisa Slate of Barboursville, and David Wilmont Simpkins and Missy Lee Simpkins, both of Ona; three grandchildren, whom she loved as her own, Sarah Beth McVay of Poca, W.Va., Aaron Harshbarger of Ona and Nikki Harshbarger of Barboursville; two great-grandchildren, Lee Slate and Alivia Slate; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Louise Altop of Columbus, Ohio, Anna Lee Mount of Ona. and Jean and Jack Chaffin of Culloden; three brothers and sisters-in-law Everett and Elaine Mount of Culloden, Paul and Shirley Mount of Gary, Ind, and Frank and Ruth Mount of Huntington; a special cousin, Libby Mount of Huntington; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Chapman’s Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
