CULLMAN, Ala. — Billy Gene "Scotty" Scott, 72, a retired sheet metal worker for Eastern Airlines, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Cullman Regional Medical Center.
A native of Oklahoma, he was a former longtime resident of Pedro. Mr. Scott was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Scott, Cullman; sons, Obie O'Steen, Tennessee, Jason O'Steen, Cullman, and Chris Scott, Oklahoma; daughters, Jenny Vanderveer, Oklahoma, and Marie Strong and Glenda Fales, both of Cullman; brother Carl Scott, Oklahoma; sister, Letta McMillan, Oklahoma; and 15 grandchildren.

Jerold G. Vanatta, 87
BELLEVIEW — Jerold G. Vanatta, 87, a retired benefits representative for Lucent Technologies, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Harborside Healthcare of Ocala.
A native of Lees Summit, Mo., he moved here 10 years ago. Mr. Vanatta was a member of Sparr United Methodist Church, American Association of Retired Persons, and Telephone Pioneers of Ocala. He volunteered at Munroe Regional Medical Center for 10 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Vanatta, Belleview.

Olga Wargo, 84
OCALA — Olga Wargo, 84, a missionary, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Munroe Regional Medical Center.
A native of Canada, she moved here in 1982. She was Jehovah's Witness.
She is survived by her half sister, Mary Chambers, Ocala.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

Genevieve Basden, 67
SUMMERFIELD — Genevieve "Ginny" Basden, 67, a retired food service cashier for Marion County Public Schools, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at home.
A native of North Carolina, she moved to Summerfield from Miami in 1973. She was a member of Belleview Church of Christ.
Mrs. Basden was preceded in death by a son, Terry G. King.
Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Grover Basden, Summerfield; mother, Flaudia Sarvis, Mount Dora; sons, Marvin D. King, Ocala, and Grover K. Basden, Summerfield; sisters, Helen Mitchell, and Linda Vislon, both of Mount Dora; and brother, Wayne Sarvis, Mount Dora.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Belleview Church of Christ Building Fund.

Purnell F. Legg, 72
OCALA — Purnell F. Legg, 72, an automotive salesman, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Munroe Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Legg was a native of Maryland. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Legg enjoyed fishing, barbecuing and sports.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Catherine "Kitty" Legg, Ocala; son, Michael C. Juran, Halifax, Pa.; daughter, Denise D. Pastre, Ocala; and one grandchild.

Eugene McNabb, 78
BEVERLY HILLS — Eugene McNabb, 78, a retired account executive for H.C. Copeland Co., in New York, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness.
Mr. McNabb moved to Beverly Hills from Scarborough, Maine in 1990. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church; introduced the "Hook a Kid on Golf" program at Brentwood Golf Course ; and served as president of the Maine State Golf Hall of Fame. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. McNabb was preceded in death by a son, Eugene McNabb Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Milda H. McNabb, Beverly Hills; son, James S. McNabb, San Diego; stepsons, David Tetta, Seattle, Paul Tetta, Malden, Mass., and Richard Tetta, Astoria, N.Y.; daughters, Eileen McNabb, St. Louis, and Mary Stillson, Milford, Mass.; stepdaughter, Patti Tetta, Minneapolis; brother, Francis McNabb, Saco, Maine; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

SUMMERFIELD — Leola J.H. Means, 82, a retired teacher, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Munroe Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Means was a native and lifelong resident of Palatka. She was a member of Mount Pisgah A.M.E. Church.
Survivors include her sister, Rosa Hart, Dade City; and brother, Elbert James, Summerfield.

Billie M. Olko, 78
OCALA — Billie M. Olko, 78, a homemaker, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001.
A native of Mount Vernon, Ky., she moved to Ocala from Fair Lawn, N.J. in 1978. Mrs. Olko was a member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Dunnellon. She enjoyed gardening.
Mrs. Olko was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Edward Olko.
Survivors include her daughters, Patricia Chandler-Moore, Ocala, and Theresa R. Moore, Dunnellon; son, John D. Atwater, Dunnellon; and brother, James H. Mullins, Mount Vernon, Ky.

Susan M. Pinkston, 50
OCALA — Susan Marie Pinkston, 50, a title clerk for Associated Land Title, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001.
A native of Miami, she moved to Ocala from Fort Lauderdale four years ago. Mrs. Pinkston was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Plantation.
Survivors include her husband, James E. Pinkston Jr., Ocala; son, James J. Pinkston, Ocala; daughter, Jessica M. Pinkston, Ocala; sister, Linda Crosby, Flagler Beach; mother, Flora Tatum, Miami; and father, Harvey Tatum, Miami.

Edward J. Swander, 80
OCALA — Edward J. Swander, 80, a retired automotive engineer for Atwood Automotive Corp., died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Estelle's Hospice House.
A native of Burlington, Iowa, he moved to Ocala from Rockford, Ill., in 1982. Mr. Swander was Lutheran. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2009; and Janesville-Western Star 55 F&AM. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Swander, Ocala; sons, Bruce E, Swander, Easton, Md., and Paul A. Swander, Gainesville; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Fred H. Farnbach, 80
MICANOPY — Fred Huff Farnbach, 80, a retired diesel mechanic, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001.
A native of Boardman, he was a lifetime resident of Micanopy who enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. Mr. Farnbach was Presbyterian and a World War II veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Doris S. Farnbach, and brother, Joseph A. Farnbach, both of Evinston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Georgina Field, 86
CITRUS SPRINGS — Georgina Field, a retired stenographer for a jewelry firm, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at Seven Rivers Hospital in Crystal River.
A native of Norton, Mass., she came to Citrus Springs 17 years ago. Mrs. Field was a member of Trinitarian Congregational Church, the Historical Society and the American Association of Retired Persons in Norton.
Survivors include her husband, Howard D. Field, Citrus Springs; and a niece.

Garry P. Kotcher Sr., 55
OCALA — Garry P. Kotcher Sr., 55, a retired pool cleaning technician, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at Ocala Regional Medical Center.
A native of Detroit, he came here from Miami in 1981. Mr. Kotcher loved gardening, hunting, fishing and auto repairs.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Kotcher, Ocala; sons, Garry P. Kotcher Jr., and Waylon Kotcher, both of Ocala; daughters, EllJean and Lora A. Kotcher, both of Ocala; brother, Ray Kotcher, sister, Cheryl Walker, both of Chicago; and four grandchildren.

Essie M. McKinney, 90
OCALA — Essie M. McKinney, 90, a homemaker, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in Ocala.
A native of Dime, Ala., she came here from Alabama in 1951. Mrs. McKinney attended First Baptist Church in Ocala.
Survivors include her sons, E.L. McKinney, Moody, Ala., and Gerald W. McKinney, Ocala; daughter, Reba A. Donaldson, Ocala; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard H. McKinney, and son Cled R. McKinney.
