1994 - KATHERINE BRASSFIELD CRIBBS -- Katherine Brassfield, 84, Okla. City, passed away July 14, 1988 in a local hospital. Katherine was born Sept. 25, 1903 in Purcell, OK. She married Art B. Cribbs in 1933. She and her husband had been associated with Brassfield Trailers and then they established Art Cribbs Mobile Homes in Ardmore and Guymon until their retirement. At that time they became motel operators in Anadarko and Lawton until Art's death. She was a resident of Danforth Center for several years and a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church. 2003 - DAVID ARTHUR CRIBBS -- A memorial service for David Arthur Cribbs, 75, who died March 4 in Las Vegas, will be held at 1 p.m. today at the First Southern Baptist Church, 160 and Fehrs Way, with Pastor Ron Trummell officiating. 2003 - IRVIN L. CRIBBS --, 89, formerly of 101 North Mill Avenue, Ridgway, died Wednesday, February 26 at Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys. He was born June 23, 1913 in Reynoldsville, son of the late James Harry "Jake" and Mary Louise Shingledecker Cribbs. On February 6, 1934, he married Julia Mae Jones, who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Nancy J. Wolfel of Brookville; three grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Louise Fillhart of Reynoldsville; and 23 nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by five brothers, Russell, Thomas, Harold, Merle and Arthur Cribbs; three sisters, Hattie Cribbs Burley, Lottie Cribbs Nelson and Catherine Cribbs Larimer. Mr. Cribbs had resided in Ridgway since 1940 and was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, the Ridgway Elks Club and the Ridgway Moose Club. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by the Tannery and Airco Speer Carbon. Funeral and committal services for Irvin L. 2003 - MARY OLIVE CRIBBS -- LAKE PARK -- The Lake Elementary School family mourns the death of one of its most beloved and dedicated educators.
Mary Olive Strickland Cribbs, 49, died Thursday, March 20, losing her most recent battle with cancer. She had taught the students at Lake Park Elementary School for two decades.
"How thankful we are to have worked with Mary Olive," said Principal Christine Baker. "She taught children, not just curriculum, and touched the life of each student in a special way. As an outstanding faculty member, teacher, and friend, it is evident no one will ever take her place. That sense of humor, insight, and cheerful spirit will be greatly missed." Student Charlyn Atkinson agrees.
"I helped her get her room ready in the beginning of this school year," she said. "She gave me lots of stickers when I helped her. She said I was good at cleaning. I will remember that time. I will remember how nice she was. I really miss her and ... will always remember her."
Cribbs was born Oct. 9, 1953, in Clinch County to Eloise Stalvey Strickland Stalvey and the late William Jackson "Bill" Stalvey. Throughout the years, she remained loyal to her Homerville roots while reaching out to citizens in the surrounding areas.
She was a graduate of Valdosta State University, earning bachelor's, master's, and education specialist degrees, and a member of Omieron Delta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. Cribbs never tired of learning and has a list of academic honors and recognitions too numerous to list.
She was also a leader outside the academic arena, serving as a participant in the Leadership Georgia Program. Cribbs was a member of the Leadership Georgia Class of 1986, a program chair for Leadership Georgia in 1987, and an active adviser to the program's Board of Trustees from 1988 to 1990.
She received the coveted J.W. Fanning Award in 1991.
Filled with a passion for the written word and a desire to share her thoughts and ideas with others, Cribbs contributed to numerous area newspapers over the years, including The Clinch County News, the Lake Park Post, the Lowndes County Review and The Valdosta Daily Times. She was even quoted several times in the National Geographic Magazine, having such a firm grasp on the history of local genealogy.
"Mary Olive loved children and she showed it everyday at school," said Beth Brady, friend. "She will truly be missed by her coworkers, students past and present, and all others who were fortunate enough to have her pass through their lives."
Cribbs was buried in the North Cemetery near DuPont March 23.

HOMERVILLE/VALDOSTA -- Mary Olive Strickland Cribbs, 49, of Homerville/Valdosta, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2003, at the Shands Hospital, Gainesville, Fla., following a brief illness.
Mrs. Cribbs was born on Oct. 9, 1953, in Clinch County to Eloise Stalvey Strickland and the late William Jackson "Bill" Strickland. She was a graduate of the Valdosta State University where she obtained three degrees, B.S. Ed, M.S. Ed. and Education Specialist (Bachelor of Science in Education, Master of Science in Education and Education Specialist). The full listing of her academic honors are far too numerous to mention but they include membership in Omieron Delta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. Mrs. Cribbs was a kindergarten schoolteacher with the Lowndes County Board of Education and taught at the Lake Park Elementary School for the past 20 years.
She was an outstanding participant in the Leadership Georgia Program. Mary Olive was a member of the Leadership Georgia Class of 1986, a program chairman for Leadership Georgia in 1987 and active advisor to the Board of Trustees from 1988-1990. She received the coveted J.W. Fanning Award in 1991.
Mary Olive has been a contributing writer for several local newspapers including the Clinch County News, Lake Park Post, Lowndes County Review and The Valdosta Daily Times. Her historical knowledge of local genealogy has contributed to her being quoted five times in the National Geographic Magazine.
Survivors other than her mother are her husband of 27 years, Dr. William H. "Bill" Cribbs, Valdosta; one son, William H. Cribbs II, Valdosta; her 95-year-old grandmother, Elma Stalvey, Homerville; four paternal aunts, Gertrude Hewett, Aliene Minchew Collins, Blanch Taylor, all of Waycross, and Mary Lou Inman, Manor; two paternal uncles, Henry Strickland and Troy Ezequial (Zeke) Strickland, both of Waycross; one maternal aunt, Juanita Smith, Homerville; five loving first cousins; Linda Hazel, Adel, Phyllis Hall, Douglas, Janice Register and Karla Musgrove, both of Homerville, and Franklin Smith, Fernandina Beach, Fla.; and several other relatives.

2003 - CRIBBS, ANNETTE - FARGO -- Ms. Annette Cribbs, 66, of Fargo, Ga. passed away Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2003 at her residence following an extended illness.
A native and life long resident of Clinch County, she was a member of the Fargo Evangelistic Church. She was the daughter of Nezzie Melton Cribbs of Fargo and the late Hance Cribbs.
Survivors other than her mother are her four sisters, Margie Harris of Newnan, Vera Henderson and Sherry Colburn, both of Fargo, and Sarah Deese of Homerville; one brother, Jimmy Cribbs of Waycross; and even though she never had any children of her own, she played the role of Mother to 11 nieces and nephews, 23 great-nieces and nephews and two great-great- nieces, and many other children in the Fargo community and the surrounding area.
Services for Ms. Cribbs will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2003 at Wayfare Primitive Baptist Church near Stockton. Burial will be held in Wayfare Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

2003 - CRIBBS, RALPH B. - Ralph Benjamin Cribbs Jr., 62, of Homer City died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Indiana Regional Medical Center. A son of Ralph "Ben" and Elizabeth Pondy Cribbs, he was born Feb. 21, 1941, in Lorraine, Ohio.
He graduated from Blairsville High School in 1959. He received both his bachelor's and master's degrees in music education from IUP. He taught for one year at Saltsburg after college and then spent the rest of this teaching career at Marion Center.
As a musician, he played tenor sax and flute with many bands including Shades of Blue. He was a member of Indiana Lions Club and was an avid golfer. He loved to cook for his family and friends and was famous for his Hungarian pickles.
Surviving are children: Mrs. Tom (Bonnie) Halle, Hillsborough, N.J.; Benjamin and wife Amy, and two daughters, Exton, and Lauren and Sam, Cornelius, N.C.; sisters, Mrs. Pete (Sheila) Jorgenson, Clarksburg and Mrs. Tony (Elaine) Rizza, Hilton Head, S.C.; three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1992 and his mother in 2002.
Services were held Thursday at Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Blairsville with Rev. Bruce J. Theakston officiating. Interment was in Blairsville Cemetery.

2001 - CRIBBS, JOHN P. - SIDNEY — John P. "Jack" Cribbs, 76, of Sidney, passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at his home.
He was born Jan. 14, 1925, son of the late Daniel A. and Emma Klein Cribbs in Danville, Pa.
Jack served his country in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952.
He married Marian Russell on May 15, 1954, in the Sacred Heart Church in Sidney. She predeceased him on Dec. 24, 1995.
Jack was employed as a postal carrier for more than 40 years.
Mr. Cribbs was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #4937, Sidney. He was the treasurer for the Charles L. Jacobi Post #183 American Legion in Sidney.
He loved baseball and coached in the Peewee, Little League, Babe Ruth and American Legion leagues.
Mr. Cribbs was also devoted to the Boy Scouts of America; he saw many young men become Eagle Scouts. He has received the St. George and the Silver Beaver awards for his dedication.
In 1996, Jack carried the torch for the Olympic Games in Atlanta, Ga.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, John and Cindy Cribbs, San Jose, Calif., and Robert Cribbs, Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Kevin Ku, Overland Park, Colo., and Anne and Robin Davis, Carthage; a brother, Thomas Cribbs, Riverside, Calif.; two sisters and brother-in-law, Helen and Lawrence Halbert, Sidney, and Jean Eldridge, Johnson City; seven grandchildren; brother-in-law, Perry Shelton, Trout Creek.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at the Sacred Heart Church, Liberty Street, in Sidney with the Rev. Fr. Joseph Schuck officiating.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America or the Gilead House of Prayer.

2002 - CRIBBS, REUBEN L. (BOB) - Reuben L. "Bob" Cribbs / He watched U.S. test atomic bomb; saved souvenir of its force
Reuben L. "Bob" Cribbs of Saxonburg told his son that on the morning the United States detonated the first atomic bomb in a test, the sky lit up 10 times brighter than noon.
"He said it had every color in the spectrum and some he'd never seen before," said his son, Douglas Cribbs of Angelus Oaks, Calif.
His daughter, Diane Mann of Haverford, Montgomery County, said that for years her father kept a small paperweight containing a chunk of molten sand, a reminder of the day the desert sand melted to green glass from the heat of the explosion.
Mr. Cribbs was a tool and die maker who worked on the Manhattan Project, which produced the atomic bomb. He was at the first test in 1945 in White Sands, N.M.
He died Aug. 6 [2002] in Butler Memorial Hospital of pulmonary disease. He was 83.
Mr. Cribbs was a technical sergeant with the Army Corps of Engineers and was trained in demolition work. He helped construct the casings, detonators and wiring for the atom bomb. He also was responsible for placing bunkers with cameras anywhere from 100 feet to six miles from the site to photograph the explosion.
He told his family he and other soldiers, wearing polarized goggles, witnessed the detonation from a ditch miles away.
"He said first there was light, then heat, then wind," his son recalled.
Though Mr. Cribbs worried throughout his life about the possible effects of radiation exposure, his family said he always supported the government's decision to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.
"I always remember him saying, 'Harry Truman did the right thing,' " Mann said.
"He thought it brought the war in the Pacific to a swift end. I don't think he really had any regrets. It was a very different time and a very vicious war," his son said.
Mr. Cribbs was born in South Bethlehem, Armstrong County, the youngest of seven children. A brother nicknamed him Bob, declaring Reuben too old-fashioned for a child. He attended college briefly but did not finish. His engineering skills were largely self-taught.
"He was just always tinkering around with things. He and his brother Bill used to build steam engines when they were kids," his son said.
After the war, Mr. Cribbs worked as a machinist and engineer in various places in Pennsylvania and Ohio. He settled his family in Saxonburg in the early 1970s and worked as a manufacturing engineer for Ametek in Blawnox. His wife, Anna M. Johnson, died in 1994.
In his retirement, Mr. Cribbs designed and built miniature furniture based on museum pieces.
"He went into it in a big way, measuring museum pieces down to one-twelfth scale," his daughter said.
Mr. Cribbs exhibited and sold the miniatures at shows for the Associated Artists of Butler, at the Saxonburg Arts Festival and at the Greensburg Doll and Miniature Show. Among his works was a miniature replica of Cooper Cabin in Cabot, a log homestead dating to 1810.
In addition to his son and daughter, he is survived by a brother, William Cribbs of Hartford, Conn.; and a granddaughter.
A funeral was held Monday in Fox Funeral Home in Saxonburg. Interment followed in Lakelawn Memorial Park, Reynoldsville, Jefferson County.

Mrs. Cribbs died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002 at the Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.
She was born May 21, 1926, in Independence, the daughter of Willie Elihu and Rosa Alice (Medley) Loggan. She grew up in the Wayside area and attended high school in Wayside, graduating in 1944. She also lived in Independence, Lawrence, Eudora and Havana.
Mrs. Cribbs worked for Electra in Independence and also for Hallmark Cards and Clinton Place Apartments in Lawrence.
She was a member of the Lighthouse Community Church of Caney, Lone Cherry Southern Baptist, rural Havana Community Baptist, and Family of Faith in Eudora.
She married Carl N. Cribbs Nov. 27, 1943, in Independence. He died Nov. 16, 2001.
Survivors include a daughter, Deena M. Jackson, Havana; a son, Joe Cribbs, Eudora; a brother, Billy D. Loggan, Havana; a sister, Nora A. Gruver, Junction City; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Carolee Cribbs, two brothers, Max Bruce Loggan and Richard Leroy Brown, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Graves Memorial Chapel in Caney.

2001 - CARL N. CRIBBS, 1924-2001, Wednesday, November 21, 2001, Graveside services for Carl N. Cribbs, 77, Caney, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Havana Cemetery.
Mr. Cribbs died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at St. John's Hospital, Tulsa, Okla.
He was born April 8, 1924, in Liberty, the son of Harold H. and Freda M. (Van Cleve) Cribbs. He was raised in the Montgomery County area and graduated from Independence High School in 1942.
Mr. Cribbs was drafted into the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he served as Boiler Maker Second Class in Hawaii.
Mr. Cribbs then worked for Chevrolet dealerships in Independence, Nowata, Okla., and Lawrence for more than 20 years. He taught auto mechanics in the Lawrence school district from 1967 to 1969. He also worked at Hallmark Cards, Lawrence, from 1967 to 1986, when he retired.
He was a member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Independence. He was also a member of Lighthouse Community Church, Caney; Lone Cherry Southern Baptist, rural Havana, and Family of Faith Fellowship, formerly Community Baptist Church, Eudora. He was active in children's ministry.
He married Rose M. Loggan on Nov. 27, 1943, in Independence. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Deena Jackson, Havana; a son, Joe, Eudora; three brothers, William, Mesa, Ariz., Jack and James, both of Del City, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Carolee Cribbs, died earlier.
Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Graves Memorial Chapel, Caney. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A reception will follow the services at Havana City Hall.

2002 - CRIBBS, SHELBY M. - Shelby Marie Cribbs, 22 month-old daughter of Rebecca Molin and Anthony Cribbs, passed away suddenly, Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002.
She was born March 19, 2000 in Palatka. Shelby loved to dance and was a joy to all who knew her.

2005 - HAZEL JUANITA MELTON CRIBBS - Mrs. Hazel Juanita Melton Cribbs, 84, passed away Friday morning at her residence following an extended illness. A lifelong residence of Clinch County, she was a homemaker and a member of the Fargo Evangelistic Church. She was the daughter of the late Israel Melton and Nancy Deloach Melton.
