LERA MORAN HYLTON
ROANOKE - Lera Moran Hylton, 75, formerly of Floyd, passed away in a Roanoke hospital Saturday, June 15, 2000. Surviving are: two sisters, Vera Radford and Mildred Holland both of Roanoke, two brothers, James N. Moran of Floyd and Belva L. Moran, Jr. of Roanoke; also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held Monday at 11:00 at Wood Funeral Home with the Reverend Perry Lundy officiating. Interment in Restvale Cemetery.

ANNIE LEE RATLIFF
FLOYD - Annie Lee Ratliff, 88, passed away Monday, July 17, 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband Learn Ratliff and one son Elvin "Buzz" Ratliff.
She is survived by: one son and two daughters-in-law, Willard and Reba Ratliff, Floyd, Alma Ratliff, Floyd; three grandchildren and spouses, Hilda and Bobby Tate, Laurel Fork, Kim and Rob Hixon, Radford, Mark and Jonie Ratliff, Floyd; five great-grandchildren, Tammy Bowman, Laurel Fork, Tracy Moore, Dugspur, Teresa Moore, North Carolina, Ricky Gillespie, Radford, Jackie Ratliff, Floyd; two step grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Profitt, Floyd, Ilene Rettle, Belleville, IL; two brothers, James Sowers, Christiansburg, Edmond Sowers, Christiansburg.
Funeral service was held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home. Interment followed in Jacksonville Cemetery.

EDITH CONNER YATES
CHECK - Edith Conner Yates passed away Sunday, July 16, 2000 at Lewis-Gale Hospital.
She was retired from Health Services at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Yates; granddaughter, Lisa Faye Wimmer and a son-in-law, Jerry Wimmer.
Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law, Denise Ouzts, Vero Beach, Florida, Linda Faye and William Walker, Altamonte Springs, FL, Trena and Jerry Minnix, Check; grandchildren, Gail Ouzts, Cathy Ouzts Plowden, Alison Ann Wimmer; great-grandchildren, John Darien Manning, Cynthia Plowden; step-grandchildren, Rebecca Sweat, Keith Walker; step great-granchildren, Billy Sweat, Johnny Sweat, Katie Walker; sisters-in-law, Jean Link, Helen Link, Vivian Conner, Dorothy Yates.
Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Salem Church (Head of the River) with Elder W. T. Conner and Mr. Buddy Frei officiating. Burial was in Salem Cemetery (Head of the River). Maberry Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Blevins
Katherine A. Blevins, age 83, of Saltville, died Saturday, July 15, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Blevins was the widow of Eli Blevins.
Surviving are two sons, Cecil Blevins and Billy Blevins, both of Saltville; two daughters, Edith Thomas and Mary Pauley, both of Saltville; four sisters, Stella Harry and Nellie Cregger, both of Tazewell, Mary Harry of North Carolina and Martha Holmes of Richlands; nine grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Nellie Stillwell.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 17, at 2 p.m. in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Totten officiating. Burial was in Elizabeth Cemetery.
D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville was in charge of arrangements.

Combs
Sandra Michelle Bridgeman Combs, age 30, died Monday, July 17, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
She is survived by one daughter, Kimberly Combs of Rural Retreat; one son, Robert Thomas of Rural Retreat; her parents, Jimmy and Toni Bridgeman of Sugar Grove; one sister, Cindy Combs of Marion; one brother, Gerald Bridgeman of Marion; her grandmother, Alice Hutton of Atkins; her grandfather, Walter J. Bridgeman of Marion; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 20, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Zachary B. Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Wassum Cemetery in Atkins. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
Seaver-Brown Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Crabtree
Glenn Holmes Crabtree, age 78, died Monday, July 17, 2000 at the Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Crabtree was a retired coal miner and farmer and lived most of his life in the Rich Valley Community. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and attended Chatham Hill First Church of God in Rich Valley.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Beatrice Sanders Crabtree; one son, Michael Crabtree, Marion; one daughter, Mrs. Ronnie "Glenna" Bullins, Marion; two sisters, Bertha Carter of Rich Valley and Lessie McGoldrick of Albuquerque, N. M.; one brother, Fred Crabtree, Rich Valley; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. tonight, July 19, at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Shupe and the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 till 8 tonight, just prior to the service.
Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, July 20, at 11 a.m. at the Ridgedale Cemetery.

Dix
Patricia "Pat" Dix, age 61, died Saturday, July 15, 2000 at her home in Atkins.
Mrs. Dix was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church. She was an avid bowler and had many special bowling friends whom she loved.
She is survived by her husband, Russell Dix, Atkins; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and Jim Armstrong, Atkins, and Terri and Mike Harris, Christiansburg; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Lisa Dix, Bowling Green, Ky.; one brother, Robert Lawrence, Marion; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, bob and Ann Dix of Marion; six grandchildren, Russ Dix, Matt Dix and Jeff Dix, all of Bowling Green, Ky., Alesia Crewey and Makinsey Armstrong, both of Atkins, and Michael Harris, Christiansburg; a special niece, Karla Starkey of Sevierville, Tenn.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 18, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Aubrey Whitlow officiating. Entombment followed in Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church, 720 Grace St., Marion, VA 24354 or the American Cancer Society, c/o Lynn Manweiler, 448 Cummings St., #350, Abingdon, VA 24210.

Alvin Berkley Lomans Sr., age 62, of Chilhowie, died Saturday, July 15, 2000 in Bristol Regional Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, Tenn.
Mr. Lomans was a member of First Baptist Church of Chilhowie where he served as a trustee. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War and retired after 31 years of service with Greever’s Clinic in Chilhowie as maintenance technician.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Odessa Lomans; one son, Alvin Berkley Lomans Jr., Chilhowie; three daughters, Teresa L. Soumare of New Market, Tenn., Jennifer L. Tucker of Bristol, and Mary L. Walton of Knoxville, Tenn.; a twin brother, Edwin Garland Lomans Sr., Chilhowie; another brother, Beverly U. Lomans of Homestead, Penn.; two sisters, Evelyn L. Polk of Chilhowie, and Betty L. Roberts of Front Royal; one daughter-in-law, Stephanie Lomans; three sons-in-law, Chelkh Soumare, Charles Lee Tucker, and Calvin Walton; eight grandchildren, Jermaine Berkley Tucker, Alvin Berkley Lomans III, Dakota Berkley Lomans, William Alexander Lomans, Gorel Alvin Soumare, Eyezek Lee Tucker, Jennifer Lee Tucker and Binetou Soumare.
Funeral services will be conducted today, July 19, at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church in Chilhowie with the Rev. C.G. Slaughter officiating assisted by the Rev. Danny Belcher Sr., the Rev. Gary Montgomery and the Rev. Willie Austin. Burial will be in Chilhowie Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post 4667. The body will be taken to the church one hour before services.

Reeves
Lottie D. Reeves, age 87, died Friday, July 14, 2000 in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home.
She was the widow of Everett C. Reeves.
Surviving are one daughter, Ruth Bozant of Goose Creek, S.C.; four sons, Alfred Reeves, Herbert L. Reeves, Charlie "Carson" Reeves and Joe Dale Reeves, all of Marion; three sisters, Masie Jennings, Greenville, Tenn., Etta Jane DeBord, Abingdon, and Virdie Dempsey of Marion; one brother, Lewis Dempsey of Chilhowie; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 17, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Eller and the Rev. David Neitch officiating. Burial followed in Rowland Creek Cemetery.
Seaver-Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Blevins
William Clarence Blevins, age 72, of Damascus, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Mr. Blevins was a lifelong resident of Washington County and was a retired carpenter. He was a member of the Azen Baptist Church in Konnarock.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond Blevins, Harley Blevins, Frank Blevins and Leonard Blevins.
Surviving are his wife, Betty R. Blevins; two daughters, Jeanette B. Powers and Vickie Stike, both of Damascus; four sisters, Mary Blevins of Damascus, Sarah Smith of Lakeland, Fla., Nannie Hash of Manassas, and Anna Campbell of Mountain City, Tenn.; three brothers, Lawrence Blevins and Ira Blevins, both of Damascus, and Edgar Blevins of Marion; three grandchildren, Alanna Buchanan, Clay Stike and Kyle Powers; two sons-in-law, Keith Powers and Billy Stike; one grandson-in-law, Jamie Buchanan; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m. in the Azen Baptist Church in Konnarock with the Rev. Tim Blevins and the Rev. Ronnie Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in Azen Cemetery.

Brown
Robena J. Brown (Houston), age 73, of Woodbridge, died Oct. 21, 2000 due to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
Mrs. Brown was born in Marion in 1926 and was educated at RPI and Virginia Tech where in 1947 she was a member of the first class to have female graduates in which she was one of two. The focus of her bachelor course of study was chemistry, botany and horticulture.
In later life she took many classes in life sciences at George Mason and NVCC, subsequently, she served in the Army and began a federal government career with the USDA in 1959.
In 1966 she took a position at the National Technological Information Service in Springfield where she remained until she retired in 1994.
Mrs. Brown was an education advocate and was active in local civic issues. She participated/chaired many local Prince William County Committees involving the study of population growth, impacts on environment, road construction, erosion control and wetlands maintenance.
Mrs. Brown was the wife of 43 years to the late Edwin Brown Jr., who was very active in local politics.
She is survived by four children, Edwin Brown III of Jacksonville, Fla., Seth Brown of Leesburg, Leslie Braun of Fairfax, and Phillip Brown of Langley/Great Falls; one brother, Dean Houston of Summersville, W.Va.; five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held tonight, Oct. 25, at 8:30 p.m. at Mountcastle Funeral Home in Woodbridge. Interment will be held Thursday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Chilhowie. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8:30 p.m. before services. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Northern Virginia, 6400 Arlington Blvd. #1000, Falls Church, VA 22042, Prince William County Animal Shelter, 14807 Dumfries Rd., Manassas, VA or Northern Virginia Chapter of Alzheimer’s Association, 10201 Lee Highway, Suite 210, Fairfax, VA 22030.

Campbell
Gary Raymond Campbell, age 11, of Rich Valley, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000 at Smyth County Community Hospital.
He is survived by his parents, Raymond and June Ella Campbell of Rich Valley; his brother, Jack Campbell of Rich Valley; his grandparents, Jolene Parks Campbell of Marion, and T.H. Waddell Jr., of Rich Valley; his great-grandmother, Annie H. Waddell of Rich Valley; several aunts, uncles and cousins; special friends, Diane Tibbs and Tabby Ellis.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 2 p.m. at Rich Valley Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Rich Cardot and the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Saltville Rescue Squad, Drawer D, Saltville, VA 24370.

Ethel Thompson Day, age 85, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000 at Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Day was a charter member of East End Baptist Church where she did the Lord’s work
She was the widow of Willie Day.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Eleanor and Bill Coalson of Bristol, and Betty and Gene Moser of Chilhowie; one son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Bev Day of Roanoke; one sister, Vada Coble of Climax, N.C.; two stepsisters, Jane Roark of Marion, and Carolyn Horne of Sugar Grove; six grandchildren, Clara Gaultney, Cindy Thompson, Julie Taylor, Steve Coalson, Christy Day and Andrew Day; five great-grandchildren, Caroline Gaultney, Leah Gaultney, Logan Taylor, Luke Taylor and Kaitlyn Coalson; special caregivers, Mary Hoover, Pansy Cornett, Helen Baumgarner, Della Warren, Betty Metheney, Frances Hayden, Daisy Sage and Sandra Minnick.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. at East End Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Jones officiating. Burial followed in Rose Lawn Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the East End Baptist Church, c/o Evelyn Taylor, 414 Groseclose St., Marion, VA 24354.
