Robert Lipford

DANVILLE, Va. - Robert Goode Lipford, 93, of 320 Greenwich Circle died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 8, 1908, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Wilson Lipford and Laura Mayo Lipford.
He was married to Ollie Wimbush Lipford, who survives. He was a member of Zion Chapel Primitive Baptist Church where he served on the deacon board for 65 years. He was a member of the Danville and vicinity Deacons Union. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one son, Dexter D. Lipford of Danville; two daughters, Vildred L. Fitzgerald of Washington, D.C. and Frazier L. Fitzgerald of Chester, Penn.; four foster children, Shirley Saunders, Joyce Callands, Cynthia Hairston and Wanda Hairston; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one son, Clinton C. Lipford.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Chapel Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Dexter Tanner officiating. Interment icon will follow in Highland Burial Park.
Viewing will be held 3-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Robert Logan

DANVILLE, Va. - Robert N. "Dodd" Logan, 74, of 741 Coloquhoun St., died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 4, 1927, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Samuel Logan and Lucille Carter Breakly, who survives.
He was married to Frances Logan, who survives. He was an employee of Dan River Inc. before his retirement.
Survivors, in addition to his wife and mother, include four sons, Robert Logan Jr., Edward S. Logan, Linwood Logan and Michael Logan; five daughters, Gloria Guishard, Myra Cameron, Louethel Logan, Pamela Logan and Linda Logan; three sisters, Georgia Breakly, Clarice Kelly and Jean Price and one brother, Bonnie Lee Breakly.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Herbert Dickerson officiating. Interment icon will follow at Highland Burial Park cemetery.
Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Kissie Martin

DANVILLE, Va. - Fred “Kissie“ Martin, of 136 Hawthorne Drive, died Friday, June 29, 2001, at University of Virginia Medical Center Hospital in Charlottesville after two weeks of illness.
Born Jan. 22, 1928, in Schoolfield, he was the son of E.A. Martin and Enda Jones Martin.
He was married April 12, 1952, to Virginia “Sis“ Parris Martin, who survives. He attended Schoolfield School, George Washington High School and Elon College. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. He owned a real estate business in Miami, Fla. for 28 years and later worked in real estate in Danville. He was a member of Danville Golf Club, V.F.W. and American Legion Post 1097. He was a former member of Burton Memorial Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife of the residence.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one son, Parris Martin, three brothers and one sister.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ralph McCormack and the Rev. Becky Powell officiating. Interment icon will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Townes Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rachel Mize

DANVILLE, Va. - Rachel Marie Brown Mize, 49, of 3312 Green Hill Drive died Friday, June 29, 2001 at the residence after declining in health since April of 1995.
Born Dec. 13, 1951, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Henry Alfred Brown and Bernice Rachel Hogan Hardy, who survive.
She was married May 25, 1968, to John Berkley Mize, who survives.
Mrs. Mize had lived her entire life in Danville and worked as a hairdresser. She was a charter member of the Blessed Hope Baptist Church, where she served as treasurer, Sunday school teacher, choir member and was active with the ladies fellowship. She was also active in the Danville Bowling League until her illness.
Survivors, in addition to her parents and husband, include her stepfather, Edward M. Hardy of Danville; two daughters, Denise M. Edwards and husband, J. Brian Edwars of Dry Fork and Jennifer M. Toufas and husband, Chris Toufas of Dry Fork; a brother, Michael Alfred Brown of Danville; two sisters, Phyllis B. Simpson and Sheila B. Cody, both of Danville and four grandchildren, Kelsey Edwards, Sydney Edwards, Berkley Toufas and Alexis Toufas.
She was predeceased by one sister, Shirley B. Mattox.
The funeral will be held 4 p.m. Sunday at Blessed Hope Baptist Church with Pastor J. Brian Edwards officiating. Interment icon will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and other times at the residence.
Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Deborah Moore

DANVILLE, Va. - Deborah Easley Moore, 47, of 155 Fairlawn Drive died Sunday June 24, 2001, at the Grand Strand Hopital in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Born Jan. 23, 1953, in Danville, she was the daughter of Thelma Easley and Louis Easley, who survives.
She was married to James A. Moore, who survives. She was employed for a number of years at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Survivors, in addition to her father and husband, include one son, Jermaine Thacker of Danville; one daughter, Tanisha Thacker of Danville and one grandchild.
The funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Friday at the Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Willard Smith officiating. Interment icon will follow at the Highland Burial Park cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Glenna Pickral

GRETNA, Va. - Glenna Scruggs Pickral, 95, died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at Gretna Health Care Center.
Born Dec. 11, 1905, in Nelson County, she was a daughter of Charles Andrew Scruggs and Lelia Bell Johnson Scruggs. She was married to Clyde H. Pickral Sr., who predeceased her. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one daughter, Vivian White and two sons, Clyde Pickral Jr. and Charles Pickral.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at the Colbert-Moran Chapel with the Rev. Judy Short officiating. Interment icon will follow at Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Saturday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Margie Doss, 469 Locust Lane, Penhook.

Alease Powell

DANVILLE, Va. - Alease Brooks Powell, 66, of 272 Major Court, died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at the residence.
Born Nov. 21, 1935, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Ramsey Brooks Sr. and Lillie Jennings Brooks Smith.
She was first married to Claude Junior Powell, who predeceased her and was married Dec. 25, 1980, to Russell Dennis Powell, who predeceased her June 14, 2001. She lived in Enfield, N.C. before moving to Danville in 1980 and worked for Bassett-Walker. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of American Legion Post 1097 Auxiliary.
Survivors include one brother, Ramsey Brooks Jr. of Chatham and two sisters, Phyllis B. Kennedy of Troutville and Gay B. Eanes of Gretna.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Mike Hearp and the Rev. Mike Pressley officiating. Interment icon will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and other times at the residence.

DANVILLE, Va. - Alice Andewrson Morey Puckett, 95, of 120 Old Piney Forest #18, died Friday, June 29, 2001 at Riverside Health Care Center, where she had been a patient for eight months.
Born January 13, 1906 in Ohio, she was the daughter of Thomas S. Morey and Leona Decker Morey - Both Deceased.
She was married to Walter Guy Puckett - Deceased in 1965. Mrs. Puckett left to be with the Lord on Friday, June 29, 2001, She had lived in Rustburg, VA all of her married life. She was a Homemaker and was a Registered Nurse. She was also a member of The Church of the Brethen in Roanoke, VA.
Survivors include 1 Daughter: Jeanette Puckett Williams of Danville, VA; 1 Granddaughter: Catherine Morey Williams Whitten of Charlotte, NC; Grandson by Marriage Edward Mason Whitten; Great Grandson: Charles Edward Whitten of Charlotte, NC; 2 Great-Granddaughters: Caitlyn Grace Whitten of Charlotte, NC and Carlyn Jeanette Whitten of Charlotte, NC; Special Niece Sara Jean Morey Selman of Bakersville, NC.
She was predeceased by Brothers: Edward N. Morey and Robert Morey and Sisters: Edith Clark and Helen Creel
The graveside service will be held Monday, July 2, 2001, 2 PM at Graveside, Fort Hill cemetery with the Rev. Tim Nuckels officiating. Burial will be held at Fort Hill cemetery, Lynchburg, VA.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, 120 Old Piney Forest Road, Lot 18.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers that donations be sent to Riveroak Church of God Building Fund, 120 Riveroak Blvd., Danville, VA 24541.

Lula Reed

DANVILLE, Va. - Lula Adams Reed, 77, of 74 Dudley St., died Friday, June 22, 2001, at her home.
She was born Feb. 17, 1924, in Lake City, S.C. She was married to Isom Reed, who predeceased her.
Survivors include two daughters, Louise Williams and Viola Martin, both of Danville and two sisters, Julia Hanna of Lake City, S.C. and Alice Thomas of New Haven, Conn.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Zion Holiness Church, Betts St. Interment icon will follow at the Oak Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Odahalia Rogers

RINGGOLD, Va. - Odahalia Davis Ferrell Rogers, 80, of 180 Echo Lane, died June 26, 2001, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville after ten years of declining health and three years at Blue Ridge Rehab Center.
Born Nov. 29, 1920, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of George Sidney Davis and Addie Florence Forliones Davis.
She was married April 5, 1944, to Phillip Miles Rogers, who predeceased her Jan. 19, 1987. She lived all of her life in Pittsylvania County and Danville and was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia R. Flowers and Kathy R. "Sue" Flowers, both of Danville and Freda R. Phelps of Ringgold; one son, Wayne "Fuzzy" Rogers of Ringgold; four brothers, James R. Davis and Alan N. Davis, both of Ringgold, Bennett Davis and Langhorne R. Davis, both of Ringgold; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by one son, Walter C. Ferrell Jr.; one brother, Coleman R. Davis and one sister, Velmar D. Walker.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Henry W. Taylor officiating. Interment icon will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, 405 Williamson Road, Danville.
