Margaret B. Johnson

ANNANDALE, Va. - Margaret Bernice Johnson, 85, of Annandale, died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at Pine Ridge Assisted Living Residence in Warfordsburg, Pa.

Born June 30, 1914, in Spartansburg, S.C., she was the daughter of the late John Wiley and Mary Katherine Vreeland Vick.

She worked as a private-duty nurse; was a seamstress and dressmaker; and a homemaker.

She was a Seventh-day Adventist; and played the violin at church services.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, John Vincent Johnson; a daughter, Vicky Margaret Fike of Newark, Del.; a son, Vincent David Johnson of Newark; a sister, Katherine Butterfield of Warfordsburg; nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St. in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Pastor Brian D. Jones will officiate.

Burial will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery in Bear, Del.

The family will receive friends Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Archie M. Sapp

STAUNTON, Va. - Archie Mohler Sapp, 87, of 1900 Hillsmere Lane, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, at Augusta Medical Center.

Born May 31, 1912, in Flintstone, Md., he was the son of the late Archie Booth and Mary Margaret Mohler Sapp.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mable M. Sapp, in 1992.

He was employed by Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, working as an engine aircraft mechanic for new and experimental aircraft, a flight test crew chief, quality control inspector and then was responsible for maintenance of five executive aircraft.

He is survived by two sons, John W. Sapp of Lovettsville, Va., and William A. Sapp of Valparaiso, Fla.; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jean Butts and a sister, Emeline Carter.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Prospect Hill cemetery, Front Royal, Va. The Rev. Don Mank will officiate.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Hamrick Funeral Home, Staunton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, Staunton-West Augusta Heart Fund, P.O. Box 2614, Staunton, VA 24402.

Augustus B. Ruppenthal

WINCHESTER, Va. - Augustus B. "Gus" Ruppenthal, 85, of Battle Avenue, and formerly of Warfordsburg, Pa., died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, at Hillcrest Manor in Winchester.

Born Nov. 7, 1913, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles Berry and Mina Pearl Duckwall Ruppenthal.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Sanford Ruppenthal, in 1988.

He was an orchardist with A.B. Ruppenthal Orchards in Fulton County, Pa. He was employed by Farm Credit of Winchester.

He was a member of Grace Christian Fellowship in Hancock.

He was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 519 Fulton Chapter of McConnellsburg, Pa.; James W. Bowers Lodge No. 173 AF & AM of Hancock since 1943 and master seven times; a member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon Hagerstown Forest No. 173; Ancient Scottish Rite; and a member of Franklin County Beekeepers Association until 1993. He also was a former member of Hancock Rotary Club.

He is survived by his second wife, Marie S. Stoner Ruppenthal of Winchester; three daughters, Martha Dehart Stone of Millboro, Va., Mina Bonnie Boyer of Marietta, Pa., and Carole R. McCarty of Hancock; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter Ruppenthal, Ralph Ruppenthal and James Ruppenthal.

Service will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. Edward James will officiate. Burial with Masonic graveside services will be in Damascus cemetery in Big Cove Tannery, Pa.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Grace H. Colvin

WINCHESTER, Va. - Grace Hawn Colvin, 92, of Winchester, and formerly of Shepherdstown, W.Va., died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at Shawnee Springs Nursing Home in Winchester.

Born Nov. 21, 1906, in Shepherdstown, she was the daughter of the late David Stuart and Martha James Banks Hawn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Martin Colvin, in 1988.

She was a graduate of Shepherdstown High School; and Shepherd College, both in Shepherdstown.

She retired from Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, as a registered nurse.

She was of the Methodist faith.

She was a member of Shepherd College Alumni Association.

She is survived by a daughter, Martha Gordon of Winchester; a son, John L. Colvin Sr. of Winchester; a brother, Olin Hawn of Mathias, W.Va.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Martin Stuart Colvin; a sister, Virginia Hawn; and a brother, David Hawn.

Graveside service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Elmwood cemetery in Shepherdstown. The Rev. Wendy Shullenbarger will officiate.

There will be no visitation.

Memorial donations may be made to Shepherd College Alumni Association, c/o Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, WV 25443.

Arrangements are by Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, W.Va.

Vicki J. LeMaster

RICHMOND, Va. - Vicki Jean Pittman LeMaster, 59, of Richmond, died there Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999.

Born Feb. 6, 1940, in Baton Rouge, La., she was the daughter of the late Alonzo L. and Pearlie Mae Brewer Pittman.

She was a member of Martinsburg (W.Va.) Chapter 738, Women of the Moose.

She is survived by her husband, Harvey S. "Si" LeMaster; two daughters, Mary Ann Blazor of Lake Charles, La., and Kerri Jean Shelton of Mountainsburg, Ark.; four sons, John Henry Blazor of Salt Lake City, Kelly M. Blazor of Fort Smith, Ark., Ronnie D. McEvers of Red Oak, Okla., and James E. McEvers of Buena Vista, Ariz.; a stepson, James A. LeMaster of Richmond; two sisters, Dorothy Lovelady of Farwell, Texas, and Shirley McCoy of Hope, Alaska; three brothers, Wesley Pittman of Little Rock, Ark., Jimmy Pittman of Midwest City, Okla., and Gary Pittman of La Porte, Texas; and 14 grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Pleasant View Memory Gardens. The Rev. Al Clipp will officiate.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

Patrick G. Masters

WINCHESTER, Va. - Patrick Glenn "Rick" Masters, 31, of Winchester, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999.

Born Dec. 23, 1967, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of Jerry and Susan Masters of Capon Bridge, W.Va., and Patricia Lawrence and Chuck Layton of Winchester.

He was employed by World Color Retail.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Jennifer Hoak Masters; one daughter, Kaitlyn Ashleigh Masters of Winchester; two sons, Nicholas Lee Masters and Daniel Patrick Masters, both of Winchester; maternal grandfather, Lloyd L. Lawrence of Martinsburg, W.Va.; paternal grandmother, Wanda M. Masters of Inwood, W.Va.; four sisters, Theresa Gail Moyers of Springfield, W.Va., Jennifer Wolford of Capon Bridge, W.Va., Kimberly Tharp of Richmond, Ky., and Tina Smeltzer of Bloomery, W.Va.; three brothers, Jerry Wayne Masters Jr. and Matthew Bunner, both of Winchester, and David Lawrence of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Harold O. Snyder will officiate. Burial will be in Paynes Chapel cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Daniel and Kaitlyn Masters, c/o Bank of Clarke County, 625 E. Jubal Early Drive, Winchester, VA 22601.
