LENA LAKE ROBERTSON
PEMBROKE – Lena Lake Robertson, 85 of Mill Road in Pembroke Born in Pembroke on June 28, 1918 she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Nettie Duncan Lafon. She was a devoted mother, homemaker, and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Pembroke Ward. She was preceded in passed away Saturday, April 3, 2004 at the New River Valley Medical Center. She was a member of Belmont Christian Church. Survivors include her husband, Ronald Reedy of Radford; a daughter, Jamie Reedy of Radford; her parents, Kenneth and Joan Tuck of Eden, NC; and two brothers, Wayne Tuck of Reidsville, NC and Tracy Tuck of Dublin, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Leukemia Society of America, 2101 Executive Drive, Box 21, Hampton, VA 23666-2404. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Belmont Christian Church. died Friday, April 2, 2004 at his home. He was Cemetery, Pulaski County with Pulaski Post #1184 conducting the military graveside rites. Visiting will be Monday evening from the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.

IDA HIATT MCMILLAN
PULASKI – Ida Hiatt McMillan, 100, of Pulaski born on June 26, 1903 in Patrick County, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Annice and Jefferson Davis Hiatt. She was also preceded in Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from Stevens Funeral Chapel with Dr. Randy Frye officiating. Burial will take place at the Willow Hill Moravian Church passed away Thursday, April 1, 2004 in Edgemont Center. She was death by her husband, J. Frank Smith, two sons, Charles Edward Smith and Buddy Montgomery, one sister, India Fleet-Wood and three brothers, Troy Warden, Jr., Jack Warden and Johnny Warden.
Surviving are: her son, Douglas Smith, Manassas; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brother, Charles A. Warden, Draper; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 4, at 2 p.m. in the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Donald Stansell and the Rev. Norman Wilhoit officiating.
Cemetery in the Cove. The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday or at her residence at anytime. Evansham Chapter No. 97, Order Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service at 8 p.m. Saturday.
The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorial donations to the Wythe County Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 389, Wytheville, Va. 24382.
Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, is in charge of the arrangements.

EMMIE PAYNE SPENCER NICHOLS
MAX MEADOWS – Emmie Payne Spencer Nichols, age 89, of Paynetown Road, Max Meadows, born April 15, 1914 in Wythe County, the daughter of the late Ruben H. and Cora Graham Payne. She was preceded in Interment will follow in the Hurst passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2004. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the U.S. Navy, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church, was a member of the Kazim Shrine in Roanoke, was a past vice-president of Coleman Furniture for 28 years, & was owner and operator of the Draper Valley Farm Supply and Market where he exhibited his love of farming, and Springer Spaniels, & was a member of the Pulaski Elks Lodge #1067. He is survived by 4 sons & daughters-in-law; Jerry P. Shumate, Jr. & his wife Ruthey of Greensboro, N.C., Arthur B. Shumate of Hawaii, George B. Shumate of Pulaski Co., & Mark B. Shumate & his wife Debbie of Draper, five grandchildren; George B. Shumate, Jr., Britt Shumate, Kristin Shumate, Zackery R. Shumate, and Lauren Shumate, 1 brother; Joe B. Shumate, Jr. of Pulaski Co.; A celebration of his life (memorial service), will be held Monday April 5 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Randy Frye, Dr. Cortez Cooper, & the Rev. Johnny Howlett officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. A private burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to Hospice of Southwest Virginia 600 W. Ridge Road, Wytheville, Va. 24382. The family will also receive friends at the home of Mark and Debbie Shumate 2560 Green Drive in the Painters Woods section of Draper. ELIZABETH SHOWALTER WALKER
MADISON, TENN. – Elizabeth Showalter Walker, age 91, death by parents, Edward T. and Alice May (Mackie) Cummins Showalter, husband, R. C. Walker Sr., daughter, Samuella Betsy Walker, three brothers and five sisters. She is survived by sons, Ray (Marilyn DuFresne) Walker Jr. of Goodlettsville, Tenn., Tim (Glenda Spain) Walker Sr. of Dallas, Texas, daughters Alice (R. Vernon) Boyd of Southfield, Mich., Eleanor (Gerald F.) Hurst of Nashville, Tenn., 16 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, sisters Carmel Showalter of Radford and Eugenia Showalter Farris of Newbern.
Elizabeth Showalter was married Raymond Clinton Walker of McMinnville, Tenn. H. Leo Boles performed their wedding ceremony in the lobby of Sewell Hall on June 4, 1931, the day they both graduated from the college. During their 64 years of marriage, R.C. taught school and preached until he could sustain the family by full time preaching. Elizabeth was his strong right hand, taking care of their home and children. They ministered in Mississippi, Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky and North Carolina. R.C. and Elizabeth moved to Radford, Virginia, in January 1958 to begin the ministry of the Radford Church of Christ, where they worked for ten years. In 1974 the couple moved into the Golden Age Village in Madison, Tenn., where both served as coordinators of the Bible Correspondence Program offered through the Amazing Grace TV ministry of the Madison Church of Christ. R.C. died Saturday. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, May 30, from 1 until 9 p.m. at the Madison Funeral Home. The body will lie in state at Bixler Chapel in the Madison Church of Christ Monday, May 31, from 8:30 until 10 a.m. when services will be conducted by Jerry Sherrill and Bruce White. The family requests that donations be made in Elizabeth’s memory to Healing Hands International, 455 McNally Drive, Nashville, Tenn. 37211.

E. LARRY "BUTCH" BOYD
E. Larry “Butch” Boyd, age 60 of Phoenix, AZ, and formerly of Pulaski, Born October 14, 1943 in Norfolk, Va., he was the son of the late Anita Schaeffer Boyd Cornett and Emerson “Fuzzy” Boyd. He was a Marine Corp. Veteran having served in the Vietnam Era, a member of the V.F.W. Post 2163 in Chesterfield, Va., and attended the Georgia Avenue Baptist Church in Phoenix. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in passed away Friday, May 28, 2004. She was a member of the Radford Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was preceded in Interment will follow in the West View died on May 29, 2004. She was death by her husbands William Howard Caviness and Charles H. Akers and three sisters, Mazie Grace Hawks, Hazel Milby Ritter and Gladys Parnell Largen.
She is survived by six children, Annie Lucille (Lucy) Austin, Austinsville; Clyde Wilson Caviness, Casacade, MD; Margaret Bullins Caviness, East Carbon UT; Joyce Caviness, East Carbon, UT; Charlotte Mayberry, Pulaski; and Tina Brentwood, Galax.
Also surviving are two sisters, Wanda (Gaye) Ham, Galax and Mrs. Bo (Jenny) Smith, Galax,
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at the Vaughan-Guynn McGrady Chapel with Bishop Jessie Hiatt officiating.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and Monday, May 31, 2004 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel.
Burial will be in the Stockner passed away Saturday, May 29, 2004, at the Pulaski Health Care Center.

She was a member of the Draper Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church, Draper's Valley.
She was survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Dennis Rorrer of Draper, Nancy and Ron Hodges of Max Meadows and Wanda and Kenneth Dalton of Draper; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Oakley Friend, Sr., and Beckie Friend of Draper; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Flora Howlett of Pulaski.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Draper Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Johnny Howlett and Pastor James Dunn officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 p.m. until service time.
A private family Cemetery.
The family will be meeting at the home of Judy and Dennis Rorrer, 2882 Graham Road, Draper.
Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, is handling the arrangements for the family.

GEORGE E. BETTS, JR.
RADFORD – George E. Betts, Jr., 87, death. He is survived by his two sons, George R. Betts, Suffolk, Va. and John K. Betts, Cape Hatteras, N.C.; daughter, Patty Ryan, Radford, Va.; six grandchildren. He was loved very much by those fortunate enough to have known him, and he will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends from 4 until 5 p.m. Friday, followed by a 5 p.m. service at Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gentle Sheppard Hospice, P.O. Box 3754, Radford, Va. 24141.
